11 guests' feedbackThis lodge has a 4 star rating but definitely does not deliver 4 star value. They did adjust their prices. They can improve on their cleanliness. The meals were very tasty and the cook and waiter were very accommodating. The bar is absolutely packed. Nevertheless, we rested well.
Ons was verras deur die pragtige kamer waarin ons gebly het en die vriendelike personeel. Geen moeite is gespaar om ons verblyf in die Shikwari Wildreservaat een vir die boeke te maak nie. Ons het vir Ann en Ian ontmoet, die eienaars wat ons verwelkom het met 'n drankie en ons na ons kamer gewys het. Die uitsigte is skouspelagtig en die diere loop vry rond. Ons was gelukkig dat ons die grootste Kudubul ooit gesien het! Die kos, wat deur Sue en Unecia voorberei is, was heerlik! Ons was behoorlik bederf en het ons verblyf baie geniet. Noel wou ons nog steeds aan sy beste vriend, 'n manlike sebra (Boytjie), voorstel, maar die tyd was te kort. As jy die beste skons en kos ooit wil hê, sal Sue en Unecia jou nie teleurstel met hul vaardighede nie. Nogmaals baie dankie vir 'n wonderlike naweek. Ons mis julle almal al klaar! Ons beveel Shikwari Game Reserve sterk aan.
The information on the internet was not what I had envisioned so I was quite confused when we arrived. I pictured my own bungalow with its own bathroom with bush shower and kitchen. We got a bungalow with bush shower and no bath, there was however a communal room with a bath. The kitchen was also a communal kitchen, lounge and dinning room. Fortunately we were on a special package that gave us dinner bed and breakfast and I did not have to cook, I do not think 3 or 4 women sharing a kitchen will work too well . I must say the food was outstanding and the staff very good at keeping us happy. We had a good rest and enjoyed our stay. Made some good friends.
I only slept there one night or rather tried to sleep. Air-conditioner in our room kept going off. The ceiling fan didn't help much as there is no window in the room to open. Just a sliding door - couldn't open it because you don't know what goes around in the night. It was hot and stuffy and I couldn't sleep. Dinner was late - not until half past eight and then we had to wait for all the other guests before we could start eating. It didn't work for me. They wanted to put us in another room the next day, but there were no windows either. Wouldn't work for me. You are also not allowed to bring your own drinks - must buy from them. I would not recommend the place at all.
Very well treated. Our guide Noel did an excellent job keeping us happy and making us feel special. The food was great. Rooms perfectly neat and evident of hosts taking care of all the small details which made the stay at the lodge even more memorable. The game drive/feeding the animals was the most unforgettable experience ever.
The owners are lovely people, but do not make up for cost vs benefit, the game drive was very late and we actually just gave up on it, the air-conditioners in both rooms did not work properly.
Weather was nice, not too hot, not too cold, very quiet. There were no other guests, had a nice stay. Drought is bad!

We can only speak highly of our weekend away at Shikwari Bush Lodge. Beautiful surroundings and beautiful lodge. Comfortable and friendly service. Every meal was a feast and deliciously prepared.
Friendly service, good food and beautiful surroundings. The rooms are beautiful and well equipped. The lack of keys to the rooms makes us feel uncomfortable as South Africans. The porch area of the lodge was quite dusty when we got there. Although there have been renovations, one expects that it will still be clean if they accept guests.
Lovely people, excellent service, outstanding rooms, and the outside shower was a super experience!!!

Please contact hosts at least a week ahead for bookings to the Kruger National Park, half-day morning or evening trips to a private Big Five reserve. The Panorama Route with a guide can be arranged as well as treatments at the spa.
There is no reception available, a representative will meet guests at the respective camp in which they have booked.
Once guests arrive at the gate please be advised that it is connected to MTN and opened via a cellphone, please press once, wait for dialling and answer. This is a timed service of 30 seconds.
Guests are advised to provide their full name as the gate will not be opened for any reason due to security.
The 'Reception Cell' is run from 07:30 to 22:00 after which the mobile reception is closed as is the main lodge area.
Due to a small staff complement late check-ins are prohibited.
There is no capacity for extra adults, this means anyone over the age of 12 years, in any of the rooms. This is to avoid overcrowding and noise.
Loud music is prohibited, if music is played it must be of lower decibels. After 22:00 noise is not allowed.
Children 5 to 12 are accommodated either on available beds or on a low fold-out bed.
All activities are separately charged and payable at the lodge with the bar bill.
Guests may not bring their own alcohol onto the property when staying at the Shikwari Suites.
Guests staying at Pangolin Rondavel may consume their own alcohol at the camp, however, may not bring it up to the lodge.
Guests are requested to bring their own tableware and braai tools, swimming towels, and emergency lights for possible power cuts due to storms or load shedding.
Please treat the rooms and items therein with care.
Toiletries, teas and coffees, towels, gowns, and slippers are only for use while at the property please refrain from removing these items.
Littering is prohibited.
Collecting wood for braais is forbidden, due to this being a reserve.
Please note that there is a gravel road leading into the establishment. Pangolin is 500 m and Shikwari is 1 km on a dirt road. Guests may like to inquire about the condition of the road, before arrival. Usually, a normal sedan can access the main road in the reserve. A 4x4 is not necessary.

The 6 Shikwari Suites are located in the natural bushveld. Each suite has a private bathroom fitted with an outdoor shower. Other amenities include a mini fridge stocked on request, freshly ground coffee, a French coffee press, quality teas, fresh coffee, and homemade cookies. Toiletries, gowns, towels and percale bed linen are provided.
The main camp has a licensed bar with a lounge with a full DStv Premium package. Free Wi-Fi is available at the Shikwari Suites' main lounge and verandah area.
Guests can relax on the shaded verandah and cool off in the swimming pool where towels are provided. Breakfast and dinner are served on the verandah or the deck boma. Self-catering options are not available at this camp.
The 4 Pangolin Rondavels are a convenient and comfortable semi-self-catering option, approximately 500 m from the main lodge. Any meals booked are served at the Shikwari Suites Camp. This camp has 2 rondavels with a private bush bathroom that is fitted with an outdoor shower, covered toilet and basin. Two other rondavels share a separate bathroom and outdoor shower. All bed linen and towels are provided but guests are required to bring their own swimming towels, kitchenware and braai tools.
The Rondavels have a ceiling fan, wardrobe, seating area, tea- and coffee-making facilities and a small fridge-freezer. There is also a kitchenette with a gas hob, an electric oven and a wash-up area. A swimming pool is also available.
The reserve is home to free-roaming giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, kudu, impala, nyala, bushbuck, duiker, steenbok and ostriches, as well as an amazing variety of bird species, especially during spring and summer.
Third-party suppliers conduct all activities, and guests are not charged extra for this service, the rate is the same as the supplier. Book ahead with us to avoid disappointment and pay at the lodge.
