The perfect place to get away from the rat race. Beautiful private setting where you become one with nature. The natural pool was a bonus. No camp lights and no noise makes it possible to appreciate nature as it's meant to be.
There was no water coming out of the shower, otherwise it is a nice chalet and nice surroundings.
Truly a place where one can sit back and relax. The host gives personal attention.
Really enjoyed the stay. The tranquility between the mountains is very special. Also help that our puppy was welcome.

The cottage is delightfully hidden in the woods. In the morning and afternoon there was game that grazed around the cottage. The stoep and braai boma are cozy spaces. We enjoyed the environment. The cottage was well appointed, we just would have liked a bit more hanging space for towels/coats/bags. It is quiet, peaceful and the right place to go and relax. The hostess was also very welcoming and helpful, thank you Nicole!

Beautiful location, the owners are very helpful. The only thing I would change is that the two 2 sleeper chalets are very close to each other, which makes them ideal for two couples who would like to holiday together. Very nice walk that can be developed much more. There is good WiF.
We went for 2 nights to spend some quiet time in nature. We were pleasantly surprised with the beautiful surroundings and beautiful unit of Shondoro. We stayed in the Klipspringer unit. Als was so neat and clean and very well equipped. The pool was lovely! We love bird watching and were able to check off quite a few! The comfortable walk up the mountain was breathtakingly beautiful and a very comfortable climb up the stone steps. Our hosts were incredibly friendly and helpful and we will this beautiful piece of Africa. Definitely recommend for a peaceful and simple getaway.

Was just what we needed to reload our energy. Quiet, private and surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery. Great for walks and hikes as the mountain is at your doorstep to explore. We also enjoyed the mountain staircase and the beautiful views from there. Early mornings we spotted some wildlife visitors close to our unit. Very nice swimming pool close to unit. The unit is well maintained with good quality bedding and linen. The outdoor kitchen is under a roof on the veranda and there are canvas blinds that can be rolled down to protect against the weather if need be. We kept it open even when it rained and all was fine. There is also a cosy private boma and braai.
Such a lovely little slice of heaven tucked away in the mountains. The cottage is beautiful and just rustic enough to remind you that you are in the bush and away from the rat race. The bush is amazing - the boys spent hours playing in the streams. The peace and quiet is chicken soup for the soul. Will be back again.
Fantastic intimate chalet deep in a gorge. Completely private and secluded. Owners friendly and help immediately if there is a problem. Cleanest unit we have ever seen. The road there is not suitable for normal car but for 4x4 no problem, keep in mind that it has rained terribly recently. In the dry season access road will not be such a problem. Mobile reception limited but WIFI is good. Will visit again.

Beautiful scenery and quite environment. The bed was very comfortable and the aircon made sleeping very easy. Chalet was clean and equipped with everything that you might need in the kitchen.

From lazing away around the pool, walking in the mountains, relaxing around the fire till late at night, listening to the bird sounds and just having fun. Had some hilarious encounters with the little spiders.
Unit is neatly and practically laid out. Everything is new. It's a peaceful place with its own braai facilities and the swimming pool is definitely a necessary exercise on those typical hot Bushveld days.

The following might be looked at ─ clearer signposts at the main road showing the turn off. GPS coordinates must be corrected. Shondoro is a beautiful little gem nestled between the Waterberge. We were warmly received by the owners and had a great time. Will book again in the future. Recommendations we suggest to make it even better. Please provide a broom in the chalets as well as a full-length mirror in Klipspringer and Buschbuck. A coffee plunger would be nice and proper wine glasses and tongs. It would be nice if the braai and fire place were cleaned every morning.

If you really want to get away, Shondoro is the place for you. 8 km from the main road, 20 km from the nearest town. If you go in between the heads there is no mobile phone signal anymore. The perfect getaway to clear your head. Just remember to bring decent walking shoes, binoculars and camera. Location gets 4 points because the teenager complained about cell reception.
Shondoro Mountain Retreat was very peaceful and safe. We had a lovely rest in nature and enjoyed the quietness a lot.
Our chalet was fully equipped with everything we needed. The birdlife was fantastic and we could safely walk around the farm to enjoy nature. We are happy to recommend Shondoro if anyone wants to relax in nature.
I thought the accommodation would be against a mountainside or on top of te mountain, not at the bottom of the kloof. I expected walking routes in the mountains, which there were none of.

The loveliest place between the mountains. Unbelievably quiet. Yvette and Rory welcomed us and made us feel at home, what a lovely couple! I can strongly recommend Shondoro for those who just want to escape everyday reality.
The chalet is very neatly furnished and equipped with all amenities - there are nice walking routes. The place is cut out for a family outing. I would go again with a bigger party. The lapa with a barbecue place and boma is excellently suited for a delicious late-night visit around a fire. Take care of enough food supplies, as it is quite a distance to drive to town. The route to the farm is not quite suitable for cars like mine which is "a bit low".

Shondoro Mountain Retreat is located on a beautiful farm that provides a safe and quiet space to relax. There are several short hiking trails and a swimming pool akin to a natural pool with a view to the mountains. One finds oneself in the center of nature that drowns out all noise. An added, fortunate bonus was the beautiful lightning display with the mountains in the backdrop on the final evening of my stay. Shondoro Mountain Retreat is a must-go if you need some solitude in a serene and quiet setting.

The units are far apart in the mountain. Incredibly peaceful and quiet. No one bothers you there, it feels like you are alone on the farm. Beautiful view!

We had a good stay, thought the farm was larger and there's also no animals visible. Our geyser did not work and we had to walk to another every time we wanted a shower. The first night we were without power for a little while, there are no lights outside so remember a flashlight.
Secluded, quiet, beautiful, well equipped, safe, nice, good bird life, nice walk, private and friendly / helpful host/wife. We will go back - for sure!

We were so warmly welcomed as guests - and overwhelmed by their hospitality. The cottage was so clean and user-friendly and was equipped with everything you could possibly need. We felt safe and secure and were surrounded by the most beautiful bushveld scenery and the surrounding areas which completely made us feel at home and at peace. We were well-informed about the rules and regulations as well as any wild animals that might be a safety risk to us. All the different plants and trees were shown to us and we felt so secure in nature. We certainly would visit again and we would recommend this beautiful, peaceful, clean and secure accommodation to anybody that seeks rest and tranquility in the safety and hospitality of Rory and Yvette. We felt rested when we left!
I was looking for a serene environment where I could enjoy the terrain and ambience of the Waterberg and have the freedom to explore at my leisure. I was also looking for bush accommodation with creature comforts yet still maintain the rustic beauty that should be expected. All my expectations were met and more. I had the most beautiful, serene, peaceful weekend where my soul was content.
Shondoro is exactly what the name says: a retreat! It is well hidden and you feel really secluded. There is little or no cell phone reception which helps even more. You don't even look at your watch. It's terribly relaxing and you really manage to just switch off. The chalets are very neat and smartly put together with all the amenities you need. I really liked the effort the owners made to disclose a little more information about the area and its history. Their service and hospitality is exceptional. The outside light is beautiful and I'm sure it will be even more so once it has rained well and the mountain stream that flows past the chalets is also full again. Kees' child is also noticeably present in the area, as are the goats and variety of birds that come to visit. It is accessible and also not far to travel to. Definitely a place to visit again.
A beautiful quiet place for you to relax, getting there was part of the fun, use a 4x4 my polo stugled a bit.the place was clean and tidy, the owners were very helpful and very kind. A few hiking trails and off grid mountain climbing is allowed, just inform the owners. Theres a nice cool swinning pool, and a river plus mini waterfall which you can hear throughout the day. If you want to have privacy and to break away from society. Or like me take your girlfriend for a romantic getaway, this is the place. Thanks Rory and Yvette the stay was great. Hendri and Amthel
Shondoro Mountain Retreat is a well-run and peaceful country destination that offers basic, attractive and comfortable accomodation. The friendly, helpful hosts in Rory and Yvette, who made sure that our needs were met, but were never intrusive. We loved the opportunity to connect with the natural bushveld, including a wide variety of birds and a range of antelope and other wild-life. The walks and trails were enjoyable and well marked. Our few days there left us feeling refreshed and relaxed in body, mind and spirit!

At Shondoro we found exactly what we were looking for: a break from the city's hustle and bustle. You can just sit around your own Boma with a fire and chat for hours. I loved my outdoor kitchen! The owners, Yvette and Rory, make sure you have everything you need, they give you that "personal touch". Shondoro we will see you again for sure!
For a peaceful break without cell phone reception, you can come and rest here. The 4 km mountain bike route is suitable for all levels and the nature is beautiful. A must for a break from the city.

Great relaxation in the mountains! We were looking for tranquility and found it! We went for a walk in the field and heard and saw many birds and thoroughly enjoyed the tranquility of the woodland. The goats were shy, but we managed to take some nice photos. Thank you very much Rory and Yvette for your hospitality and the neat chalet in which we stayed. We will definitely visit you again soon.
The pool definitely needs some attention. The lack of cell phone reception makes one feel a little unsafe.
Photos and the information on Shondoro's website cannot do Shondoro justice. In the stone chalets with their thatched roofs and open living areas, you always feel part of nature, while the bedroom and bathroom are luxuriously furnished. The host and hostess are warm and make sure that you feel at home and have everything you need, without intruding on your privacy. There are only three chalets, which are far enough apart that we only saw the other guests from a distance once. We rested and relaxed wonderfully. Shondoro offers fantastic value for money and is the perfect place for a romantic or family break. We will definitely come again - thank you!
I've been to places calling themselves a mountain retreat. in the past, but after you discover Shondoro you discover how a mountain retreat really should be!!! We have really enjoyed our stay and rest, and will go back soon!!

If you like a quiet place in the bush with total privacy, Shondoro is the place. There are 3 stone chalets set nicely apart from each other. There is a kitchen separate from the bedroom with everything you need cutlery crockery and a fridge/freezer. The bedroom is very tastefully decorated with an on-suite shower and toilet. Theres a beautiful big area to sit and eat under a magnificent big tree. There's a boma to braai. Perfect! There are different walks you can go on: We went on 1 walk and saw interesting trees. The pool looked lovely but maybe a bit cool to swim just yet. Yvette and Rory met us on arrival and its always nice to be welcomed. We will be definitely be back.

Bathroom a little cramped, toilet needs a curtain for privacy! A true retreat for nature lovers and chosen because we could afford it with pensioners' discount. Would like more and longer hikes.
The three houses are quite close to each other. We were very lucky to be there by ourselves so we had a great weekend. The environment is "stunning", and the cottage very clean and very comfortable.

The place is located in a valley with the most beautiful view of the mountains and seasonal river. The units are very clean and very private. It is ideal for a couple or small family. The owners are extremely friendly and go out of their way to keep you satisfied. There are nice hiking spots for the beginner to the expert. There are also lovely birds and beautiful nature sounds. The boma is nice and cuddly for the winter months, but also nice to grill under in the summer. We couldn't fault it and it met all our needs exactly. We will definitely go back. If you are looking for a private getaway, in the bush where silence and nature surround you, this is the place for you!
