147 guests' feedbackThe stay was pleasant and comfortable.
It was just one of those places where you instantly feel at home.
Wonderful stay, hostess very friendly and helpful, food was top notch, rooms beautiful and comfortable.
Service was brisk and friendly. Slept through mattresses a bit.
Nobody has the time to write an essay for you - seriously.
I had a great stay, the accommodation, location and meals were of high quality.
It really was a great night at Silver Mist Country Inn. We will definitely go back again.
Very nice stay, cute shops, friendly people. Enjoy a delicious drink at Night Bar.
My stay and meals at Silver Mist were outstanding. Just one point to which attention can be paid: The bathroom window of the room I stayed in is close to the kitchen and presumably also workers' quarters. The noise of workers talking loudly at the window and pots and pans banging against each other in the kitchen when I wanted to go to sleep was somewhat disturbing. They may also just hang a light curtain in front of this window. I'll just make sure to ask for a different room next time.
Accommodation was good enough. We were initially in rooms 13, 15, 17 but asked to move to 4, 7, 8.
The room is small, but very cosy.
Stay was wonderful and friendly service!
The photos are not like the actual room. The maintenance has not been done in years and everything is outdated. Our shower head popped off when I turned on the water. There are tiles missing. The room is so small that you can't move, and then they have an easy chair - we had to push it into a corner just to be able to move around the bed. The bedside lamps didn't work, we had to scrub and struggle to get the switch on. The service at meals was very poor. At every meal we had to go and ask where the other guests' food was, while everyone's food was getting cold. What was nice was that we could park in front of our room. I would give a 3/10. Would not stay there again.
Peace of mind! Friendliest people, we had a wonderful stay!
Wonderful peaceful atmosphere, nature is incredibly beautiful. Residents and visitors are very friendly to everyone. Just what one's soul needs.
It is very peaceful. Restaurant is great.
Peaceful atmosphere away from the city's hustle and bustle.
Enjoyed the short visit incredibly!
Nice quiet room with everything you need. Is cramped but just overnight is perfect. The kettle's cord is too short and just sits on the floor.
Silver Mist is beautiful with some old world charm. Staff are friendly and very good at their job. Rooms are very nice with everything you need. Enjoyed the time very much. And the food in Silver Mist's restaurant is incredibly delicious.

Friendly and helpful service, clean and tidy accommodation, very nice facilities.
We were in a 3-bed self-catering unit. It was well equipped, and everything was clean and tidy. However, the bathroom does not have a full door, which can be a bit of a problem if one needs privacy. Next time I will also take extra tea and coffee with me (there was provision for 1 cup per person) and I will also pack milk (there were Ellis Brown sachets). We had a great time in the wonderful tranquility between the trees. It refreshed our souls. We are happy to recommend the rooms.
We had a great time staying in Silver Mist. The restaurant is excellent and the place is lovely and cozy and clean. You feel as if you are moving back in time. Everyone is very friendly and it's a nice location. I suggest if you live in a room on a second floor, find out when load shedding occurs, as hot water cannot be pumped up during load shedding (just so you plan your day correctly).
Very neat and comfortable, just needs a small fridge.
Thank you for the lovely evening at your beautiful guest house. Had a good sleep for sure.
They were also very hospitable. Would have liked to have a small fridge in the room.
Everything was so lovely. The staff are friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. Would recommend it to anyone.
The guest house overlooks a backyard that doesn't look good. The dinner was very good, but I was under the impression that breakfast was included.
The rooms were fine - clean and comfortable. But there's no water during load shedding. We were told they make use of a borehole for their water supply and when there's no electricity, the pumps dont run. . The wifi was more off than on.
Broken and worn furniture and cupboards in the rooms. Worn and washed bedding. No king size beds available in the guest house. Although the breakfast is quite expensive, it was delicious.
Small Dullstroom, but not as busy as Dullstroom.
We spent the night in the Self-Care Unit. Decor is beautiful, kitchen has everything you might need, but the food at the hotel was top notch. Thanks for all the kindness.
The surroundings are beautiful and the peaceful atmosphere brings calm from a busy city life that recharges your batteries.
Silver Mist is a huge treat. The rooms are clean, spacious and very nicely equipped. The towels and linen are of high quality. The garden is beautiful and the tranquility there is palpable. Truly a privilege to be able to stay there (our 2nd visit to Silver Mist) Would really recommend.
Our booked room had a problem with the TV being stolen, quite a few others believe too. The manager immediately rectified this by giving us a much larger room in the main building, the problem was kindly and quickly rectified.
Beautiful surroundings with really friendly staff. Ricoffy in rooms was a disappointment, otherwise very pleasant experience.
Great area and nice town to stay in. However, compared to my previous stay at the venue, this room was not up to standard. The paint in the bathroom is blistering badly, no teaspoons for coffee/tea, bedside lamp was not working. On the last day I suddenly had a 2-seater couch in my room, making it very cramped. And the couch has paint and other stains on it. This room was in the same category as a room I had on my previous stay, and which was much better.
What a lovely cremation in the heart of Mpumalanga.
Not able to supply water when load shedding happened was disappointing.
We had a great time. Silver Mist's service is great. The food was very nice. We hope to visit again soon.
Beautiful guest house, friendly service, good food, nice people, breathtaking village!
Weather changes very quickly. Do everything when the sun shines. Don't wait. WiFi did not work well.
We always enjoy our stay at Silver Mist Guest House.
The place is beautiful, the rooms are extremely clean and comfortable. The staff is really friendly and the food was superb. I will keep on making it an overnight stay on my trips.
Will recommend it to anyone as a nice getaway closeby, in nature and away from the city.
Good value for money.
The guest house has a friendly and homely atmosphere. The room was neat and comfortable. The meals were delicious and great value for money. The staff were all friendly and helpful. I can definitely recommend the guest house. The only recommendation is a small bar fridge in the room please.
We will definitely come there again, just longer.
Comfortable room, good value for money.
It was wonderful to come home to Silver Mist after a long day of exploring the town and the surrounding scenery.
Many thanks to Joleen who went out of her way to make it a pleasant experience for us.
Great place to escape hustle and bustle of city life.
Exceptional service and surrounds for soulful healing!
Pleasant stay, warm friendly service from Joleen. I had a great stay.

We opt for the small room. Very basic. I think a coat of paint in the bathroom will do wonders. A microwave in the room will do wonders. Install a floating rack near the door. Food very good. Loved the atmosphere in the dining room.
The guest house takes you back to times gone by. The restaurant is open for 3 meals a day, very reasonably priced and good! Had a Christmas spread there that was excellent. Great place to unwind.
The meals at Silver Mist were very tasty and value for money.
Very neat and clean.
Everything in the room is very old and smelly, the TV is so small you can’t see the picture.
Although very well located, the guest house needs serious upgrading and maintenance, the furniture and decor date from the early 1990s, although neat on the surface, one soon gets the feeling that the rooms and bathrooms have only been dusted upstairs since the first lockdown. Dust balls and cobwebs in corners, water damage in the bathrooms etc. There was poor quality, washed out bedding on the bed. The restaurant's service was poor, and the staff clearly lacked training. Don't order the oxtail or omelette.
Staff - not good impression. Arrange for breakfast at half past eight but all staff arrive at half past eight, urn for coffee and tea not even put on. Waiters not trained and rude, couldn't remove wine cork and simply push it down into wine bottle, stick it down on the table. Leaky geysers that drip. Bedside lights not working, poor lighting. Rooms not ventilated - smell musty and stuffy.
We were a few hours earlier than we should have checked in, but the lady already had all the paperwork ready and our room was waiting. They will definitely see us again.
Stunning guest house, rooms are clean, comfortable, staff very friendly. We enjoyed our stay and will go back again in the future.
Great vacation spot. Warm, friendly people, good food, beautiful nature.
Comfortable units, clean, great location, staff friendly. Dinner was excellent especially the lamb curry.
Room was comfortable. The location of the guesthouse is excellent. Fortunately, other guests were not noisy after nine o'clock.
The weather did not paly ball but otherwise very good.
The maintenance on the building has deteriorated, the gutters that we could see were all blocked and probably the reason for the moss that can be seen everywhere on the roof and gutters. The rooms where we stayed smelled musty, the paint was falling off in places, the ceiling in our room had large spots on it due to water lying on the ceiling. Curtains and rails were dirty and full of dust. The bathroom roof didn't look any better either with pieces of wood that had previously fallen out and not been fixed. The 1 room boiler was also broken and not replaced after we mentioned it. Wardrobe in room's wooden knobs broken off and not replaced either. The R75 breakfast they give, we had no option to change to another breakfast ourselves or pay extra, the breakfast is not worth R75. Both TVs very old. The places are no longer worth their stars as before.
The bed is just laid to one side. Will stay there again.
Beautiful little village and Silver Mist was a good choice for accommodation.
It's like staying in an old mansion. Beautiful building and environment.
What a privilege to be able to stay here. The staff went out of their way to help make our stay memorable. Rooms were spacious and very neat. The food was top class and the waiters were very friendly. Silver Mist Guest House can be proud of their staff.
I go back to stay there often and will do so again in the future!
We were well accommodated with a late arrival and arrangements made for us to still get a meal on arrival. Will definitely use this establishment again our next business trip in that area.
Excellent venue with old school charm. People are very pleasant and helpful. Food is also very good. Will definitely come back again.
Silver Mist is the most beautiful place, top notch food, friendly staff and ready for any help. Rooms nice and comfortable, nice neat and clean. Really enjoyed our stay there!
We were welcomed but requested another room as my mother couldn't climb the steps, but we didn't mention that beforehand. It was no problem and they immediately helped out by giving us a room that would suit my mother the best. Rooms were neat, spacious, fully equipped. Good meals at reasonable prices. It was wonderful to be at a place where the beauty of the natural scenery also extended to the accommodation.
Even though it was cold outside, the reception and atmosphere was warm in the guest house. Jan and his team, especially Jolene, made it very comfortable and homely for us. We are going to visit there more often.
Mystical and beautiful place. Friendly people at the Silver Mist Guest House. Highly recommend.
The owner unlocked the bar for us to watch rugby because a wedding was underway. We really did appreciate it and he poured us drinks.
Thank you very much, our unit was very tidy and sufficient for the three of us. The meals we had were also adequate only one recommendation on the last morning we had to wait almost an hour for breakfast. Otherwise perfect! Thank you.
We were kindly received. The fireplace was a winner and the barman very friendly. I'll definitely stay here again.
A beautiful old hotel with the best food and the friendliest people, but unfortunately a lot of work is needed. The food is top notch! Anyone can really go and eat there. The rooms are just old - need painting and upgrading. It is still clean and tidy. Everyone is very friendly there!
Kaapsehoop is always "magical" and Silver Mist Guest House's atmosphere envelops you and brings tranquility to the soul. The people and service are fantastic. We enjoyed it very much. Thank you.
We can really recommend Silver Mist Guest House. The best for us was the delicious beef curry that was presented to us, which we enjoyed next to a nice fireplace. The waiter has answered all our questions and we can really recommend it.
Beautiful place. Just no fan or aircon in room. Was unbelievably hot and if windows were open mosquitoes ate you up. Furthermore, the stay was nice.
The cottages we stayed in are definitely not 4 star rated. The room smelled musty. The photos on the website do not correspond at all to what we got. Accommodation definitely needs an upgrade. Hotel's star status must be evaluated by the tourism board. Staff were very friendly and helpful but the service in the restaurant was very slow. Some of the food on the menu was also unavailable.
At reception, the receptionist didn't even bother to go to the room with my wife, unlock it and show more or less where everything is. They think they have DStv, bog, SABC 1, 2, 3 and E-TV which are not even set properly and on top of that no remote control. The room's interior curtains were torn, paint chipped off wall by light switch, roof paint chipped off in bathroom and chair by mirror cabinet was broken. The double bed mattress we had to sleep on had rotten springs and when we got a duvet out of the closet it had these big brown stains on it and I just hoped it was coffee stains and not something else. Coffee station was also powerful as the coffee was just cheap Riccoffy and powdered milk bags, kettle's wire is too short and had to stand on the ground if we wanted to boil water, dangerous if you stay with small children. The breakfast was a continental breakfast which only consisted of bread, yogurt, juice, coffee and some cookies, but my wife and daughter never got or saw the nuts and croissants that were also on the menu. My son and I were looking for a heartier breakfast, one with bacon, sausages, eggs, etc., but the price on the breakfast was not even adjusted as the price of the room already included a continental breakfast. I'm sorry, but the Silver Mist Guest House won't see me again and I know ten to one they won't mind my review at all, but that's fine. That's how you learn that looks can be deceiving.
Peaceful and neat accommodation. Delicious food. Definitely worth it.
We were surprised on how beautiful it is with enough to do in a tranquil setting. Will definitely visit again.
What an awesome guest house with great service! Rentia, you are a darling! Breakfast was delicious!
It was simply wonderful.
Staff are friendly and very helpful. The ambience and location are unbeatable! Beautifully clean and tidy.
Friendly service.
The rooms are very nice, clean and warm. Very calm and can relax. Food was excellent! Service was also very good. We would love to go back again.
An ideal opportunity to get your soul and body back together in this peaceful environment. The guest house is a special place to stay where we would very much like to stay again. Meals very tasty prepared.
Will go back. Reception very friendly and the rooms were excellent.
The rooms are well equipped and clean. I can definitely recommend it.
Check in very fast and everyone helpful. Sink leaked but was quickly repaired and granted a discount on accommodation of their own free will due to little discomfort we had.
Would definitely need a larger room for more personal space. The hotel is awesome and the surrounds are absolutely beautiful. I love Kaapse Hoop.
Neat rooms with nicest linen and furniture. Reception staff very helpful and friendly. However, restaurant is not recommended. Food very expensive and not up to standard.
Restaurant with fireplaces.
Lifelike lodge. Breakfast delicious. We waited a bit for service for the breakfast.
Stunning place with that feel of going back in history.
Rooms require a ceiling fan or air conditioning.
Would appreciate if there are 2 plugs for the warm blanket and hair dryer.
The self-catering rooms can be finished very nicely with a little effort - replace light bulbs, replace missing tiles, and ensure that the cutlery is complete for the number of guests.
Good, neat accommodation. Neatly equipped with just about everything one needs, especially in Kaapschehoop where weather conditions can change by the hour. The accommodation was handed over to us clean. The staff is particularly friendly and courteous.
Ask for Lucky, best barman ever!
There often are weddings held here. Check room locations if you wish to sleep well on a 'wedding' night. Enquire as this information is not offered freely.
Not sure where the 4 star grading stems from, but our "luxury room" was quite underwhelming. Such a pity as the place has lots of potential.
Everything is 5 star quality, even the nature.
I'll recommend anyone to stay at Silver Mist! People are hospitable, rooms are nice and tidy!
See rating.
Peaceful, clean, excellent food.
Comfortable, friendly service, good food.
Stunning, beautiful, friendly staff and a beautiful location!
Amount of coffee, tea, sugar and milk in room was not enough and the wall power plug to turn on the kettle is almost impossible.
Kaapsehoop's two "restaurants" close early in the evening, so we were really happy to get dinner at Silver Mist. Two drawbacks: room didn't have a fridge and the bathroom, though nice, had a tub but no shower. The interesting people working there (Edward!) made more than up for that though!
Night service staff could be friendlier. Day staff was awesome, food is good.
We really enjoyed our visit. The rooms were clean and tidy. Dinner was delicious and reasonably priced. We will definitely be going back soon, one night was too little.
It was a lovely experience. All that put a damper on the visit was when we sat down for dinner in the dining hall on Sunday evening, dead hungry, and after an hour and forty minutes, without any explanation from the cook or other staff, we had still not received any food. When we started to get difficult, the cook came to say that he was having problems with his equipment in the kitchen. We had to hurry and look for food elsewhere in the town. Salvador's kitchen was already closed but Sonja, the manager, made sure we could still get pizzas.
Bedroom is spacious, clean and well furnished with a convenient bathroom. Meals in the restaurant were well prepared with a relative choice of dishes. Kaapsehoop offers the ideal environment to just relax for a few days and get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Kaapsehoop is a beautiful place and there is more to do than you can fit in one day. The Silver Mist guest house offers a nice experience and environment to relax. See also great opportunity for a function facility.
Only problem was that the water supply to all 4 rooms was poor. When one tap is opened in a room, other rooms have no water.
The dinner was good however it is definitely not a peaceful and tranquil place to stay the night. There were people who were so loud inside and outside the inn that we struggled to sleep. No respect for others. Management should take control of situations like that however did nothing and actually knew the people who were so loud. Very disappointed and will definitely not recommend or stay there again. Money not well spend.
Will visit again.
I paid a deposit to TravelGround of R850 when I booked 2 rooms, one for myself, and one for my friend Mr Albertson. However, when checking out Mr Albertson was presented with a bill for the full R1700? He paid this bill, and when we discovered that we had been overcharged on Sun 9th April we immediately phoned, and the establishment promised to refund the extra R850 immediately. Despite a number of calls this money still has not been refunded 10 days later! Very bad service, where is the refund?
The young man on reception is not very friendly over the phone or in person. The rooms are badly lit and not very clean. Their water pressure is extremely poor and there is an old heater in the room that does not work very well. Breakfast is not included at all and their breakfast is incredibly expensive.
Was expecting a well organised maintained guest house. Walked into the reception area and was already put off by the appearance of this area. Then got into the room. Was totally discussed with the room. No Shower, limited TV channels( TV1,TV2,TV3 & Etv), no fridge, no airconditioner, the bed mattress was sagging, the room needed a lot of maintenance to be done. Had supper and ordered spare ribs. The meat was so tough you could not chew it. Was totally disappointed with the food. For the price I paid I would expect something more professional and well run. I would not recommend it to anybody. I get the feeling that management are not in control of this guest house. It is a pity because this place has so much potential it could become a major tourist attraction.
This is about the fourth time I've stayed in this unique and romantic guest house - right in the middle of a heavy downpour. The location is unparalleled, the service excellent and the surroundings magical. It reminds one of something from Hansel and Gretel, the battle only with bricks and zinc instead of candy. The phenomenal tranquility and peace that surrounds the guest house makes it a wonderful getaway where you can get lost in your own thoughts while exploring the grassy green surroundings in the mist.
The village is well located in a beautiful environment that offers beautiful scenery. The wild horses also give it something a little different from other small towns.
The room was very neat and clean. Apart from the dripping faucet in the bathroom and the TV without a remote control, we had a very nice stay.
Would be happy to recommend the following. Fridge in the room can be convenient. DStv is controlled by a central point ─ channel on football but we want to watch rugby? They were willing to change the channel to our choice, but what are they going to do if there are many guests with different needs? Food was very tasty with a pleasant atmosphere in the dining hall. We were impressed with the animal friendly environment.
Very basic, but it was lovely. It suited our needs for one night. Would want more though if we had stayed longer.
See the stars.
Other than poor service at the restaurant, this is a great place!
See the stars.
Beautiful place to spend the night.

A charming chapel and multi-purpose hall are ideal for weddings and private functions. This popular tourist village is a haven of beauty, with its misty mountains and high rainfalls.
Located in the historic mountain village of Kaapsehoop, about a three-hour drive from Johannesburg on the N4, Silver Mist Guest House is well-situated for exploring the beauty of Mpumalanga and the Kruger National Park. Silver Mist has the quaintness and grace of an era gone by.
