Some of our staff stayed there, their feedback was positive, very nice place.
Gate is not locked. Would suggest a mirror be put up for ladies close to power point for hair and makeup. Also at least a bag or two of coffee, tea and sugar. A bit noisy on main road with trucks. There was also no WiFi password to use.
Unfortunately, I really regretted the guest house and that I paid. It was bitterly cold and upon my arrival I had to hear that a substation had burned out so no power. I was shown the room has a tube light which is an emergency light but it only worked for 20min and flickered every now and then. At least I got a kettle of hot water on my arrival and was able to make myself a coffee by 17h30. Unfortunately I sat in a dark cold room and after I called Louisa about the power problem they switched on a generator at 19h00. I thought well like most guesthouses they will at least run the generator until at least 22h00 and watched TV and wanted to heat my food at 20h00 but it was turned off after 40min. Called again and asked why there is no water, but she said then there isn't because the power has been off since 15h00. ?. I assumed the generator had run out of gas and waited half an hour hoping my dark room would light up, but after I inquired again I was told they had turned it off because 'apparently' the technicians were on scene and going the substation that exploded was fixed work, very unlikely because where do you get parts on a Friday night and there was a municipal worker in the explosion, so surely DoL should have investigated? So I had to get by in a freezing cold room with my cell phone light with no hot water, on the contrary no water because water only runs on the pressure pump, no way to heat my food, no heater I could turn on and no TV is not. So I paid for WiFi (which went off sporadically) and a pitch black room! There was no apology from Louisa at any time, I think on the contrary it bothers her. I went to read the previous ratings and it's a constant problem here that power goes off outside of load shedding as well, why wouldn't they cater for that? Are they just looking for the income? Things would be somewhat acceptable if they could keep the generator running until 22h00 so that one could then go to sleep and have a basic necessity such as running water for the money one pays. Gas geysers - not something they know about and could implement the last few years of struggle? A decent table on which all their cutlery can stand and not having to store some of the cooking appliances on the room floor. A gas stove is another appliance they could offer. Old furniture, one of which has no drawers. As mentioned no help or apology was offered, I would be ashamed to run a place like that and what else advertise! I would not recommend this place in any way.
The place was clean and the staff friendly. Nice place to overnight.
Dogs bark at night. Very difficult to sleep well.
Thanks to Silvex management who are willing to go the extra mile with their customer service.
Mattresses are worn out and uncomfortable to sleep on. The plastic toilet seat is broken.
Weather too cold and many time load shedding in this city.
Upon our arrival we were greeted by the cleaner and he gave us room keys. We could not cook because there were no pots or pans. There was a bowl we could use in the microwave but I had to make meals in batches. There were also no scoops and had to struggle with a tablespoon to scoop up. I had to ask for a sharp knife because there were only butter knives. Only 2 glasses for a room of 4. The room could not lock from the inside. The porch light shone through the curtains all night and it still lit up the room causing us to not get a good night's rest. The mattresses are laid out and hollow, where the others the springs stick you. The room also smelled musty after the rain. I also killed some small cockroaches. The sink outside has no hot water to wash dishes and we had to boil the kettle for washing water. At least the owners came to say hello after we had been there for an hour and mentioned the times of their load shedding. The stove is on the outside porch for everyone to use but could not use it. The pool is very small and was grass green, my children couldn't even wet themselves.
The traffic noise was unbelievable.
The cleanliness is not up to standard and the room smelled bad.
Silvex declined dramatically. The whole appearance shows that the premises are for sale and that the owners are not spending any more money on the maintenance.
They need to get a generator. We had no power for our stay.
Arrived at 20:15: no one to meet us, not enough coffee sachets / towels, sliding door not working properly, atrocious place.
Room is spacious with necessary crockery, covered parking at room is very convenient. Large fridge available, small container of fresh milk would have been ideal.
Silvex's website sent us to the wrong destination. Was quite scary because we ended up deep inside the location. But Louisa immediately sent the location and it was more successful.
Will gladly use Silvex again.
It was quiet and so much fun!
We enjoyed the overnight stay with them.
Rooms are very neat and clean. Room is cramped and overloaded with furniture and all kinds of unnecessary ornaments so that there is no more space left on the dressing table. Could instead set up more space for coffee facilities in the room.
Very peaceful place to spend the night.
No one was there to check us in and the person who was there first had to call the person from the town to check us in, where she didn't answer a few times so we had to wait quite a while before we could only go into our room. Furthermore, the place was very nice and tidy.
Had a good time with my partner.
There were only 3 knives and spoons in unit, no forks. Bedding had marks on it. Although the unit's sliding door could not be locked, the enclosure of the premises was in good condition and at least we felt relatively safe.
Login difficult. Also difficult to find entrance especially at night. Shorter clearer and more visible signboards. Generally acceptable.
Room had dust and cold water.
The place looks nice on the surface, but for almost R500 a night you get: Broken shower that wets the entire bathroom, a pool of water under the microwave due to roof leak (danger), the climbing frame is broken, the hostess never came to say hello didn't say or say hello, sheets were washed but with old stains on them, no instructions on WiFi - had to ask, no soap/sanitizer in bathroom, dirty dishes at coffee station, dogs around you all the time. They do have a beautiful garden, nice swimming pool and old trampoline.
Old linen with cigarette burns and stains. Linen not changed on day 2. I will never again put my foot at the place, my car had to go through a muddy entrance gate, poor driveway maintenance.
The location looked like a scrap yard, the room was okay, until you opened up the bedding, it was filthy, there were 2 glasses in the whole unit and I had to wash them before use, with a duty/old sponge, please note we booked for 4 individuals and paid for 4 individuals, there was 1 towel, 2 broken TVs just set up in the lounge, It was late as we were breaking our trip from Hazyview to Ballito, so we ended up spending the most of our evening before heading back to the unit at the Spur. I'd be embarrassed.
Nice place, clean, very nice. Will stay there again. Might be a good idea to put a double plate stove or something by room.
Warm, welcoming friendly and clean place. Thanks Silvex, we enjoyed it.
Would gladly recommend it.
Thank you very much for the safe and clean place right next to the main route to Pretoria. Very nice and etc slept well and enjoyed a morning coffee before we ventured on the long road rested. Will definitely go there again.
What a positive surprise! Recommended.
Centrally located to visit other attractions as well. Close to the wildlife park. Quiet and beautiful farm.
Park directly outside your room which is convenient. Take away and Pick n Pay 2 km away along the main road.
Was clean and tidy
Bedding not too clean, shower head faulty, short surface around the sink.
The free-standing unit was not free-standing.
There was no toilet paper and the roof was leaking. We also expected to be able to swim but everything seems to be under construction.
For the price it is value for money.
Acceptable, I enjoyed the setting.
See stars.
The rooms appeared tidy until we saw the mattress. The mattress was disgustingly dirty. For the amount it costs per night they can really afford to replace the mattress.
Bathroom and bedding definitely need attention. Only two bags of coffee for two people that are used on arrival or you then have to wait to be able to use the coffee that is provided the next morning. Different colored bedding on the same bed and no place to put your bathroom items in the bathroom, as well as no hand soap or small towels for washing hands. Covid-19 is a reality.
Would not recommend the place. No one received or welcomed us. The cleaner opened the gate for us and directed us to our room. We never met anyone in charge of the place. The outside area is terribly dirty, messy and scruffy due to of the permanent residents. Swimming pools are in the plots of the permanent residents. Not nice to swim right in front of someone's front door or where someone's laundry is hanging. Thank goodness we had a set of pool towels in the car because the towels smelled awful. The climbing frame is broken, missing boards and has rusted nails. Fridge was very dirty. Lights outside were so bright we couldn't sleep. Had to take the extra blankets off the beds and hang them over the curtain rail to block out the light. When we got up to drive there was still no one in charge who came to see us, only the cleaner was sent to ask for the rest of the money. Book somewhere else instead.
The eddens need to be replaced. A duvet on our bed would be nice. The light from the canopy shining into the room all night was unpleasant. Was not a nice stay at all.
As pensioners, we felt safe and well rested, which was ideal for us for an overnight stay. Walking space on the plot to stretch legs after a long drive.
We slept just one night on our way to Mozambique. Everything was what we expected and we will do it again. Would also recommend it to people travelling in that direction.
The place is safe and quit. A good place for vacation, definitely it offers value for money.
Good accommodation. Quiet yet central.
Two single beds for a married couple doesn't work, we got a unit with a double bed. Was a disappointment.
It's a great place with a safe place for our puppy.
You don't need anything more, well located and ideal for our needs.
Received a very friendly welcome, the house was spacious and clean. Definitely value for money.
The hostess very helpful and friendly. Units clean and tidy. Very reasonable price.
We really felt completely safe and enjoyed a rainy day in our little house.
There should be two towels, not one, when there are two occupants. The kettle did not fit under the tap of the small bathroom basin and there was no jug to fill it. Apart from this we were happy with what we were given for the price paid. We would use Silvex again if in the area.
We enjoyed our stay, definitely coming back soon. Mam'Busi welcomed us with warm hands and we even made new friends. We had a fantastic weekend. Thank You
The swimming pool must be cleaned and they must indicate all the rooms are without Wi-Fi.
Silvex was a nice overnight destination and we really enjoyed it.
I would recommend Silvex to friends who are looking for reasonable accommodation in the area. Looking forward to staying there again soon.
Accommodation was neat and spacious, but the kitchen facilities were really inadequate. The guesthouse is out of town and after a long day on the road one does not necessarily want to drive back to town to eat. There were only two coffee mugs, so you can't eat soup that night and drink coffee the next morning, because there are no washing facilities either. A kitchen sink will make a big difference.
Was only one night's stay, but was happy with the service and will definitely pay them a visit again. Was short, but neat and slept well.
Very neat place that was beautifully situated in the middle of our route.
The only problem is that the rooms are under oak trees and the acorns that are constantly falling on the roof are extremely disturbing. In another season it may be better.
We asked for two rooms and got one, although they helped us move the accommodation one night earlier in an emergency. Room was noisy and unwanted insects made it uncomfortable with a musty smell hanging in the place.
Comfortable accommodation in a nice setting, but could do with some renovation. Then it will be more expensive for sure. We enjoyed our stay.
We struggled to find the place at first. But was adequate for what we were looking for.
Stuff fell on the roof all night hard. Couldn't sleep.
I got the feeling that a permanent resident had to move out soon to accommodate us. Bed covers were full of stains, toilet not clean, microwave dirty, kettle dirty. Old salad and milk in the fridge. A large stone in the shower to apparently scrub your feet. It's really creepy. I suppose that is the value you get for the low price. I can say that the personnel were very friendly.
It was the only place that was relatively cheap for a one night stay, we arrived and there was not really anyone there to receive us or even anyone who works there the only lady that helped us was a lady that does not even work for them she just also lives on the premises and when we went home there was no one really to check us out we just dropped the key in the box by the gate. Would rather check out some of the other many accommodation places in Piet Retief.
One room's toilet was broken, the TV didn't work, mattress on the bed. Very dissatisfied with accommodation and rooms were not clean.
Bedding and headboard dirty, mice on ceiling, hot water geyser cutting out, then standing in ice cold water. Acres. All night, can't sleep.
That place is very dirty and I've never seen a B&B this filthy. The linen and blankets were dirty and the kettle in the kitchen had mouldy water in it.
Silvex did not clean the accommodation or put clean bed linen before we entered.
We had a pleasant, quiet stay. One thing that could be improved on is the signboard on the road, coming in from the north.
Very friendly staff who made us feel at home and safe. Facilities are neat and well maintained.
We arrived late and were received very kindly.
Accommodation for a quick stopover was perfect for the price. Linens may just need attention, cotton duvet covers are suggested and perhaps bath towels. Wasn't aware we had to provide our own. There were only 2 small hand towels in the chalet.
Arrived late in the evening, the owners waited for us. We received a very friendly welcome en helped us to our rooms. Very neat and cosy. Will definitely sleep there again.
The accommodation was truly great value for money. Everything was newly renovated and is ideal for business travellers. Fridge, TV, stove, microwave, mugs, everything!
See stars.
A great place to stay close to town and eating places clean and safe what more do you need.
The place is located near the town. Friendly service and clean units.

Silvex was our overnight stop on the return journey from the North Coast to Johannesburg. The reception was very friendly and everything was well explained. The unit is well equipped with basic cutlery - the only issue was washing the crockery again as the only sink in the unit is the small bathroom sink. Sorry we left the dirty dishes for you!
Friendly reception. Comfortable, clean, tidy rooms with everything you need. Just would have liked extra towel.
We arrived around 8 pm, the lady who welcomed us (Jeanette I think) was extremely friendly. We were quite tired to go out for food and she offered us something to eat, which we enjoyed very much. For what we paid, I was pleasantly surprised with what the place offered. The only negative thing is that the shower in our room could not be adjusted to a comfortable bathing temperature, it would only switch between cold and hot.
My partner and I had fun. Thank you so much. Special thanks to Junior who helped us when we were getting lost, he took our calls and let us check in at 21:00.
People very hospitable, friendly and helpful and the place is neat and very safe.
Arrived a little late and was received kindly, rooms are neat and clean had a good night's rest after a long day on the road. Comfortable rooms with parking in front of your room.
I can recommend Silvex for the price you pay. I looked at the previous reviews and saw some complaining about the bed linen not being clean. The bedding was now pretty clean. There wasn't a bar of soap in the bathroom. The people are friendly and people feel safe there. I enjoyed the half liter of ice cold milk in the fridge. Thank you very much.
Neat rooms with friendly service.
Accommodation is a bargain in the current economic circumstances in which the country finds itself. Nice and relaxing with a bit of total closure from the daily rush at work and in general. It's been a long time since I've just laid on the bed and watched TV, which hasn't happened to me in years. Would love to stay there again.
Good, affordable overnight accommodation.

Great place for a weekend getaway from the city life. Perfect location and the friendly staff.
Ideal location and reasonable rate for an overnight stay en route to the coast from Limpopo. Catered for basic needs. People were very hospitable.
Enjoyed it a lot and will use them again if we have to sleep over in that area.
Perfect for a quick overnight stop. Friendly hostess, room with all the essentials. Undercover parking at unit.
Sien sterre.
Comfortable stay. Friendly staff. Few small things can make stay even better.
Silvex is very well furnished. It also has the prettiest gardens and when it rains on the iron roof, it relaxes you into a good night's sleep! Value for money! Will definitely stay there again.
Friendly reception. The accommodation is only equipped for overnight stays. So we were wrong and couldn't really make anything to eat there. I would like to suggest that lights be installed at the entrance from the main road so that it is easier to see at night.
We were received very kindly and the sleep was good. The mattress and bedding were not up to standard, but the rest was in line with our budget.
It is very neat and clean and located ideally.
The bedding could be renewed. There were dirty items of cutlery and crockery. We had to ask for soap. No hand towel. The person on our booking was called at 12.00 noon and we never got a reply.
See stars.
Staff asked us for money while we send the proof of payment before we booked in. One room had a leak on the gas bottle and we had to turn the gas of to get rid of the smell.
The environment was perfect and its a nice chilled place fun to be around.
Bed linen was sifted slept on our towels, will definitely not sleep there again.
My husband called and person just said hello hello and hung up. Called another number, woman said she would have them open now, she was not at home. Before we go into the room they run to turn on the heater and hang two small towels. It's affordable yes, but no excuse if the place is dirty. Can't sit on sofa it's so dirty. If the cushions are taken away there is a big black spot as if someone had laid there dirty against the handrail. Pillows do not cover the spot as big as the spot. Mirror is so dirty and full of marks. There is still old food on the cutlery, it must first be washed in a tiny sink. Plates are full of fingerprints. There was no drying cloth. Two shower heads in windowsill but not where they should be. Bedding was clean but lacks new ones. You can see on the chairs' cross bars that they haven't been dusted in a very long time. Couldn't get out of there soon enough the next morning. It could have been really clean.
The place looks like it could do with a bit of a makeover and needs some attention. It wasn't 100% clean either. I suggest you get a takeaway as it's just a room with a fridge in it and some plates plus a kettle. At least you park right in front of your door under a roof which is convenient. It's a little hard to find, especially in the dark, so call first to find out where it is.
The self-catering unit has the pot or something to make breakfast, it was not said in advance that there is. The place is very cramped. There was no hot water and we complained about it and when we left on Sunday there was still no one around to see what was wrong.
There is no indication where the place is on the internet, no address, address given was not correct. No way to find a place in the dark. No contact number was answered. We stopped at another guest house to spend the night there, they then took us to the Silvex guest house.
See stars.
Bad experience due to poor communication from our host. No electricity and she never notified us, we had to call her. The place is not clean, there was a smell from our bedding. I would never go there again.
An English-language car magazine on occasion made this comment about a car: "Cheap for a reason". The comment fits Silvex 100%. The beds and bedding were not up to standard. The mattresses were soft and especially the blankets were not clean. The sink in the bathroom is of the small type that one usually finds in toilets in private homes. There is no bathtub in the bathroom and it is difficult to shower small children. If I ever have to spend the night on Piet Retief again, I would specifically ask that Silvex not be considered.
The unit was filthy. The bedding had hair all over it and was stained. The shower had a cobweb and spider in the corner. The entire unit had a musty wet smell.
No reception area. Cleaners need to be asked to clean room. Cutlery appalling, stove only one plate working. No candles when lights went out for hours.
The place is clean and beautiful and Nikki who received us is the best, very professional, friendly and helpful.
Provided with everything we needed including ice and phoned en route to make sure we were on track.
They need to improve their bedding. Bed cover, sheets and duvet not just extended bed cover and throw blanket, please.
I will definitely book at Silvex should I come to Piet Retief again. The service we received there was excellent, firstly the welcome, the staff was so friendly and to top it all they ironed our clothes. If you want something to be washed they do it for you. The security is excellent. Keep on doing the great job. I really enjoyed staying there.
Very nice stay. Could do with thicker curtains.
The stay was amazing. Quiet, and the owners very accommodating. We were originally only going to stay for one night, but changed our plans to stay another night. It was no problem. Really enjoyed our stay. Thank you.
Would highly recommend Silvex.
Will and have already recommended to other people.

Friendly reception, neat accommodation. Unfortunately, water pump makes noise in our room in the middle of the night. Other than that, no complaints.
We were friendly received. The rooms are clean, neat, well equipped and decorated pretty. The uncomfortable thing for me was that the door to the shower/toilet folds up, which isn't very private if you share the room with someone you are not married to. A door that can close and keep out noises, would be better. The shower/toilet didn't have good ventilation either and an extraction fan should be installed. It is difficult to fix the temperature of the water in the shower. I think it also has to do with the type of geyser.
Comfortable beds, TV, equipped kitchens, what more could you want.
Friendly reception, the units were spotlessly clean. Definitely good value for money. Thank you.
Love this place. Will definitely recommend to family and friends.
Was very impressed with the people's hospitality and friendliness. Will gladly recommend the place.
We arrived at Silvex much later than we said, but that was no problem. Nicky was very helpful and the stay was more than we expected.
I will definitely stay at Silvex again in the future. TravelGround, thank you very much for your prompt service.
I had such a great stay and Louise was very helpful, she even lent me her computer and treated me to some delicious milk tart. I will definitely stay here again and also recommend it to anyone. Keep it up guys!
We enjoyed it a lot, especially the friendly owners.
It is safe and clean and very affordable.
The place was clean and neat, the light outside can be put on a dimmer switch or darker curtains to make the light in the room less at night.
Couldn't believe this place is so affordable, but took a chance nonetheless! Was perfectly located close to the wedding venue and was easy to find.
We really enjoyed it and will definitely stay there again. It's very safe there and very peaceful.
Will return. Very pleasant hosts and very clean and comfortable accommodation.

Couldn't sleep. The outside lights had been on all evening. It was like daylight. The pillow had also been hard. Difficult to find the place in the dark. But, they came to meet us at the local garage.
The bright light outside room and a loud motor that went on and off all night made it difficult to sleep.
The accommodation was value for money. Loved the rusks that were included at the coffee station!
We were dead tired after a day of travelling and our unit at Silvex was neat, clean and ideal for the perfect night's rest. Thank you very much.
When we arrived no one was there to open the gate. No one to receive us. No bell to ring at gate. Not impressed. No one answers a cellphone. No directions to office or reception. No basin in room for dishes. Cloth just tossed on the pile in the little dish (probably for dishes). Had to ask for toilet paper and towels. Didn't see a soul after we finally got the keys.
The entryway is very poorly lit in the dark so it was difficult to see the name board. The unit assigned to us was neat and new except for the sheets on the bed. A recommendation would be to use sheets that are suited to the size of the bed, change the colour from brown to white, put mattress protectors on - white creates a clean and fresh feeling. Ensure that the excess silicone is removed after finishing it off. The shower is nice and big, just a pity that the entrance or (door)opening is small, you have to turn sideways. Reception was friendly on arrival.
Silvex was a very neat and comfortable overnight stay for us on our way to St Lucia. Louisa and her husband immediately made us feel welcome. Thanks again and we may see you again when we come in your direction.
