Had a lovely stay at Skitterland Guest House on the 8th July 2024. The weather cooperated and the snow fell thickly throughout the town. Anelia made our family feel welcome, and even though there was no power in the entire region, we slept soundly in the comfortable bedding. Will definitely visit again, and this time we will come to look at the stars.
We had a lovely stay in a private self-catering unit, very spacious and unique layout, 4-star quality!
Was good. Disappointed as host wasn't always available. Checked in after 4pm but she left the key in a pot and didn't welcome us and show us the room and facilities. At night we had load shedding which we weren't aware of, and she wasn't available to assist. She assisted with freezer space as we travelled with fish that needed to be frozen. Appreciated her assistance.

Anelia really goes out of her way to make you feel welcome and at home. While temperatures outside varied between 0 and 1 degrees, our room was deliciously warm, the bed comfortable and the facilities excellent. The breakfast was also delicious, beautifully presented and more than sufficient. The whole experience is positive, from arrival to departure. Skitterland is a guest house where you arrive as a customer and leave as a friend.

I have stayed at Skitterland several times and it has always been very good. The only thing I might change is to offer some thinner pillows as I found none thin enough for me. But everything else was fantastic, comfortable beds, excellent breakfast, good location.

A visit to Sutherland and a two-night stay in Skitterland's romantic Taurus suite was just the way to kick off a trip to the Northern Cape. Every aspect contributed to a special experience: the spacious and beautifully furnished rooms, built-in fireplace, luxurious bed and bedding, huge bathroom with double shower and corner bath, secure parking, convenient location, the beautiful old stone porch from which to lazily watch the world go by. and the peace and quiet of a small country town. Anelia is also a great hostess and made sure that the hearty breakfast - so carefully served in the coziest atmosphere - was without a doubt the highlight of every morning! What a privilege to be able to live there!

You'd be quite challenged to find a better stay than the Hibernia suite in Skitterland Gastehuis, it has everything you need in it. Breakfast was a great inclusion. The heater, electric blankets, and aircon help ensure you keep everything at the temperature you want, along with the ability of the braai place.

Very comfortable stay and the breakfast was the best we have had on our tour.
The Victorian houses have always been a draw for us. Skitterland is well maintained and tidy. The massive stone floors on the porches were particularly striking to me as a geologist. Parking was tricky. Anelia, the hostess, received us kindly and the breakfast with the Roggeveld lamb chops was excellent.
Beautiful place. Anelia was very friendly and hospitable. Left us nice coffee and juices with energy bars for next morning as we drove early. Might recommend they think about water tanking as there are water restrictions.

The owner was helpful and easy to talk to and willing to arrange reservations at places to see. The breakfasts provided are very enjoyable and filling. The location is very good and within walking distance to interesting sites and restaurants. Obviously, the night sky with all the stars is a wonderment.

Our room was spacious, tasteful and well equipped. It is also located just next to secure parking. Anelia is a great hostess, cut out for her industry. The breakfast was delicious, with a good system that allows guests to record choices in advance. It's a shame that there is a water shortage in Sutherland, but it in no way detracts from the quality of a visit to this cute town.

If you want a guesthouse with character and cleanliness, then Skitterland is the place to go. Anelia was a superb hostess, who made sure we were well looked after and kept warm. Nice Sherry surprise in the rooms upon arrival, lovely fireplaces, electric blankets, delicious breakfasts and walking distance to the restaurants in town. We will definitely go to Skitterland again.

The room was OK, but not even a wardrobe! But a bit cramped, but I suppose OK for one night.
No one at the guest house when we arrived. Had to wait 10 minutes. Lady very unfriendly. Guesthouse very dark inside. Dame rattled off everything and then drove off. Dining area very cramped.

We had two rooms in the house with one bathroom with only a bath. Missed my shower. Friends we met in the guest house stayed in the rooms that were not part of the house and were apparently off the books. Maybe something to ask for if you're considering spending the night there.

The GM was professional even with the power outage. We enjoyed staying there especially in the cottage. However we recommend that a generator is acquired for power outages.
Our room was spacious and well equipped. We appreciated the fireplace and warm blankets during the snow. It is understandable that the town may experience water and power problems during storms, but a guest house of such a caliber should provide for such circumstances, so that guests have water, as well as hot water, at their disposal at all times.
Breakfast was very nice. The communication between me and the guest house was not as desired, we had to wait so that the guest house could be opened and closed upon our arrival. The service in general is unfriendly.
Taurus room is very spacious. It is a very old house so the lighting is not very good, so I want to be able to see that the room is clean, now I still wonder about it. The shower creates a good impression until you go to shower, the water supply is not constant it keeps falling away. So then you stand full of soap and wait and get cold. For so much money per night it is not right.

The hostess is a soft kind gentle soul that makes Skitterland the place to rest. Premises as super neat and clean, Food (breakfast) fresh fruit is high quality and high standard. Choices of breakfast, and all done with so much taste. Bedroom (Taurus) was so comfortable, underfloor heating in bathroom was such a luxury. Electric blanket / blankets / winter bedding and the most awesome high quality bed to rest on. Coffee facilities made it possible to make our own hot chocolate to enjoy in front of the fireplace in the evenings. But most appreciated of all is the fact that before we left on a snowy Sunday morning we were asked to phone as soon as we are at the Matjiesfontein Crossing (about an hour and half drive) as if we don't call the hostess will contact the police to come search for us as there are no mobile phone services when going through the mountain pass. That was such a comfort to know should something happen someone will be on their way. Thank you for a wonderful experience and stay at Skitterland Gastehuis.
We really enjoyed staying at Skitterland. The room was (Hibernia) very comfortable, spacious and tidy as well as underfloor heating and an air conditioner. The indoor grill was also a winner. Skitterland's breakfast is fantastic. I will definitely stay here again.
