Modern and tidy, with complimentary water, tea, coffee, milk and biscuits. As well as one complimentary bottle of wine. A minibar with other drinks and sweets is also available in the room which costs extra. Breakfast was in the breakfast room which was sunny and tidy, with a continental breakfast and hot breakfast which was tasty and more than enough. Only complaint is that they didn't come to make our room on the side until much later on the first morning. We then made the bed ourselves and put it to the side and only after we went out for a function (3.30pm) did they come to clean. The last morning the biscuits were not filled in the room either, but these are small things that don't really bother.
Kim is exceptional! She makes you feel at home and so comfortable. The tennis court and swimming pool are in excellent condition. An amazing stay and perfect place to relax at.
Slaley is very well located to visit many famous wine farms in the area. The hostess has a passion for wine and very good knowledge about different wines. She has very good suggestions of farms in the area to visit. Their service was wonderful with delicious breakfast available. Will definitely stay there again.

Esme and her staff made it like a 'home from home'. Everyone is incredibly friendly and goes out of their way to make everything as comfortable as possible! Within minutes we were like old friends. The location is great - away from the 'city' and yet close to everything! Here you can relax and just be at peace - breakfast was a feast every morning, and the free bottle of 'Slaley wine' made us buy more and have them sent home! The guesthouse manager was very effective with her communication and made our guests feel at home even before they arrived. She even accommodated our overseas guest after he checked out with laundry and a quick shower after a farm visit and before he had to fly back home. It really is going the extra mile for your customers! I would definitely use Slaley Country House again and highly recommend it.
Slayley Country House was everything they promised to be and more. The guesthouse manager, Esmé, was superb from the first introduction and even accommodated our overseas guest after check out with washing his clothes and a shower before his flight back. Rooms are so beautiful!
The reception was good and the staff made an effort. Especially when I asked them about breakfast upon my arrival. I had to leave early and because it was before their breakfast hours, the receptionist put a nice 'to go' breakfast in the room for me within an hour that I could use the next morning. The room was also very well laid out and tidy.

Our time at Slayley Country House is something we will not easily forget. We originally only planned to stay one night and were offered another night for free. Esme spoiled us with the most beautiful room, good wine and the best time. The room was picture perfect and very clean. We enjoyed it so much and can't wait to go back. When it rained we couldn't swim outside, but then we could enjoy the hot tub inside and it was a lot of fun.

We had a wonderful 4 night stay at Slayley Country House. The staff were very friendly. The grounds beautiful and our bedroom very elegant and clean. Esme was so kind and welcoming. She sourced fine dining venues for us and booked them at our request. She felt like a dear friend. We would definitely recommend - in fact we have to friends.
Very nice rooms. Location is very safe and nice close to town, but still just outside to see the beautiful surroundings.
We can confidently recommend Slaley Country House. The reception was friendly and hospitable and we immediately felt at home. Everything was spotless and of the highest quality. In addition, we were spoiled with a beautiful view and a delicious breakfast. We obviously couldn't use the swimming pool because of the cold weather, but we can imagine that using it on warm days will contribute to a wonderful stay.

Weekend getaway felt like a dream! Honeymoon room is highly recommended.
It's an ideal place to stay just outside Stellenbosch if you don't fancy the traffic and hustle and bustle of the town. The rooms are spacious with a large living room. The staff are friendly and helpful. Safe parking! Definitely value for money!
The guesthouse and facilities were neat. The drivers and the ladies who worked there were very friendly. We could lay in bed in the morning with a cup of tea and watch a movie on the TV - great for a breakaway for the purpose of rest.

We were a large group of family gathering for a wedding in the wine country. Had a delightful and relaxing stay in a very beautiful environment. Friendly and hospitable receptionist made us feel at home.

Had a great stay. Place was clean and tidy when we got there. All I would like is for them to come and clean the rooms on a daily basis and not have to ask for it. Other than that, no problem. Very pleasant people.
The Bread & Barrel is a beautiful guest house with beautiful rooms, what is a problem is the place is not maintained, there are many small problems that need to be sorted out. The aircons in the rooms are noisy, the gate was a problem, at one point we had to wait 2 and a half hours to get out because the gate wouldn't open. As I say, the place needs serious maintenance. While we were there one of the ladies working there went to the toilet and the key broke off in the door, she had to wait hours before they could get her out. We had a gas heater in the Honeymoon Suite, but it doesn't work, so again maintenance needs to be done on site. The lady at reception was very friendly and helped us with everything and went the extra mile to help with any problems, but the place definitely needs maintenance. If everything is repaired and the place is fixed up nicely I will stay there again if the opportunity arises.
Very neat place, food is amazing, and the tranquility is the best.
We were received very hospitably and were even able to move in a little earlier due to special needs. We had a great rest and really enjoyed the beautiful unit. We also had a great time there with our children. The owners really went out of their way to make it as pleasant as possible for us. The only suggestion I have is that there might be a clearer sign in the main road where to turn towards the entrance.

Was very impresed with the room and the bathroom is pretty.
The location is indescribable. The rooms picture perfect. More can be done to improve the privacy, but it isn't a major problem. With a bit of work I wouldn't be surprised if Bread & Barrel is the no. 1 guesthouse between Franschhoek and Stellenbosch in the next year.
After we were called by the establishment, and we informed them that we would be there in half an hour, no one at reception knew about our arrival, luckily I had the proof. The room was reasonable, the garden outside around the room was untidy. There was 1 tea bag, a few sugar bags, no coffee and a few containers of milk - it felt a bit like a let down.
