100 guests' feedbackVery nice stay with the most beautiful sunrise. Will definitely come again. Very neat. Ryna is a wonderful hostess.
It is a very beautiful place with the most beautiful view.
Breathtaking views and cosy space, lovely visit for the whole family.
Very nice stay and friendly host and hostess.
Was very nice and beautiful.
It was incredible. It was wow.
Quiet environment and well located.
Clean, tidy and everything you need. Steaks and homemade garlic bread at the little shop are top notch.
See stars.
Very nice stay. Thank you very much.
Fantastic stop over.
Very friendly welcome, slept nice and warm in the cold & had a nice stay.
Very nice, peaceful. Friendly service. Very helpful.
We had a nice stay, one lives more outside than inside.
We had a peaceful and enjoyable stay. For a quiet getaway it was perfect.
We had a great stay and the pool was a lovely treat during the hot weather.
Chalet 4's aircon stopped working during the night, otherwise it was a beautiful place and breathtakingly beautiful.
Amazing view, beautiful apartments. The pool was an incredible surprise. Greatly chilled and relaxed. The chapel was a place for stillness. Thank you for a lovely overnight stay.
Very nice stay. They will definitely see us again.
Perched on a rocky outcrop overlooking vineyards and water canals that channel irrigation from the Orange River. Beautiful views. An oasis from the unrelenting heat and parched landscape. Easy access from the Main Road. 90km outside of Upington.
The host was very friendly and helpful, we appreciate the hospitality.
Very nice area. It was terribly hot, but when we arrived the air conditioner was already on and the room was pleasantly cool. Sunset over the floating lands is as beautiful as a fairy tale.
The breakfast is delicious. We were received very hospitably and were able to relax wonderfully.
This place is a hidden gem for sure! The view is breathtaking and the accommodation amazing! For sure value for money! The pool is a winner for families with small children as it has a large shallow side and provides hours of fun! Go shut up and recharge your batteries! The customer service is top class and the meat that the little shop sells will surely stay with you forever! We are on our way back to the Cape with a cool bag of meat because it is just too good to leave behind! I definitely recommend them and look forward to our next visit!
One night over on the way to Namibia.
See stars.
A very pleasant surprise. Comfortable chalet, the best view over vineyards, beautiful aloes and we identified different bird species right from the veranda! Definitely going to visit Slypsteen again!
Beautiful farm with a view over the Orange river valley. Well rested.
The cottage is more than adequate for a night's stay. Very simple but everything one needs. Safe although there is a fair amount of drop off, stairs and tight spots as expected from the area, but children can move safely with supervision. Porch does have a great view.
Neat place to stay.
Difficult to find when coming from South. Hot water lukewarm and no instructions on how to obtain it from special controls. No privacy to the toilet and shower - timber screen full of gaps.
The cottage has everything you need with a beautiful view of the Orange River Valley.
Safe and beautiful environment. Rooms were very neat. We will definitely come back again!
Quiet and peaceful place.
Fast and friendly service by staff, place was neat and clean and conveniently located on our route.
Great overnight facilities. One bathroom is a bit tight for 5 adults. Beautiful view over the fields, balancing dam and canal.
Towels not enough for all the guests who were booked.
The collection of cottages, on a rocky ridge, overlooks the winds and fields of the Orange River. Chalet 1, in which we were at home, is only rough and not well planned - e.g. there are 4 beds in the upper room, but access to the single bathroom is only from the master bedroom. It's also very dusty, almost unavoidable due to the building material of rough stone and thatched roofs. The place is also quite expensive, given the equipment and finish. But the location is first class, and the manager, who lives on site, was very accommodating in accommodating our special requests.
The place is clean and tidy, a nice bed and air conditioning, but needs a lot of "TLC" and upgrading of certain things. Unfortunately the caretaker is not focused on customer service, our fridge wasn't even on before we got there and we're still waiting for toilet paper (luckily we had our own).
Kitchen can only be more equipped, e.g. oven pans, egg trays, etc. Unbelievably beautiful views around every corner. Lovely pool and accommodation was just a pleasure.
Pleasant surprise to find such a nice place to stay.
Brenda's friendly reception at this beautiful little resort on a hill where you have a 360 degree view of the vast Northern Cape with the Gariep and hundreds of hectares of vineyards is an experience. The large swimming pool at the highest point makes you feel like you are swimming in the clouds. The rondavels/chalets are excellently equipped for a holiday - whether it's for one day or a month, you feel at home like at home. A must stop in the Northern Cape.
Beauty,Serenity and Kalahari Desolation! Almost spiritual! A place for solitude and reflection!
The group of teachers were pleasantly surprised with the place and the location, wanted to stay even longer, the reception was generous and the stay was very nice.
Friendly hospitality, excellent location and view from our chalet, very quiet and peaceful.
Great for people traveling without dogs. Abysses and loft stairs are not animal friendly. Keep dogs on a leash for safety.
You are sitting with a gem of a place and would love to come again, but house 1's air-con leaks liters of water a day and falls on the curtain and then drips on the floor. The shower leaks even more. The outside ash bin was full when we arrived and therefore could not go anywhere with our kitchen ash bin's stuff. House's exterior light does not work. The lights in the way to the pool do not work or do not turn on. Had to walk in complete darkness. There is no shady place at home. We had to ask for a grill and our unit was not dusted on fridge etc. It's the little things that need to be looked at in order to be able to recommend a whetstone.
This was our 2nd visit to Slypsteen in large wooden chalet. Although the accommodation is well located it needs attention and has deteriorated over the past year.
The place must have been a very good place years back. Firstly, we were given the wrong contact details for when we arrive. The furniture and appliances are old and run down and the stove only had 2 plates that worked. The grill was so dirty that we decided not to grill. It was just us and another couple in another unit and yet our request to leave later was rejected because they are so full and the staff will not be able to get everything ready in time for the next guests.
I could have stayed forever, views views and more views.
This accommodation is everything you need after a long journey back from Namibia. Very well located and wonderfully peaceful among the grapes and the beautiful view of the dam and canal and the river in the distance. Very neat, well-equipped accommodation.
Friendly staff, the unit was clean, but exceptionally hot, to the point of being unbearable, the air-con was only put on when we arrived and it was 40 degrees outside, the air-con struggled to cool the room down because of the intense heat, I would recommend to the owners to put a door up between the kitchen area and the bedroom to help cool the room down quicker.
We stayed in the cottage which sleeps 6, with a beautiful view over the winelands, comfortable and tidy, would definitely recommend it for overnight travellers, however there are smaller units which do not have a view. We were received very kindly.
Very well run self-cater accommodation. Clean and comfortable with a lovely view.
Very neat and peaceful. Friendly reception by Brenda. Will definitely go back and highly recommended. Peace of mind. Nature is very beautiful.
After a long and hot day in the car, it was wonderful to be able to cool off in the pool, and then sit on our porch with a glass, and enjoy the beautiful view (and the silence!). The owners deserve full marks for their conservation of nature on the hill where the cottages sit.
Very neat and clean. Stay was to short to judge.
The chalets are well located, well equipped and offer a nice relaxing overnight stop. One would only expect the fridge to be turned on before arrival with an ice tray or two in it! This especially in the arid hot part of our country.
Absolutely beautiful location. I fell in love with the views. We stayed in the cheaper, secluded unit which was perfect for us. The unit is set further up on the hill, making it super private and allowing for the best views over the wine lands and gorgeous sunsets. It is extremely rustic and you are surrounded by nature: there are lizards in the room which do a fairly good job of controlling the bugs! If you do not like camping and being in the wild, this is not the place for you, but if you’re looking for a beautiful and peaceful location that feels far away from civilisation, this is it! There is a charming little chapel on the premises, and lots of dining area space, but the space is only utilised for functions. Don’t bank on enjoying a swim: The swimming pool was a swamp - looks like it would be a winner when clean though. Would improve the signage on the dirt road, and would also like some information about check in and out, as there was no one to meet us and no signs or information of what to do on arrival or check out. Someone did arrive a few minutes after we did to give us a key and offer to fetch us bags of ice. Turns out the ice was necessary because unfortunately the fridge in the unit had not been switched on, for a few days it seemed, according to the smell. Air con worked like a dream and we slept well. Overall, we will definitely return for the beautiful landscapes! Really affordable too.
Slypsteen Gasteplaas is the ideal accommodation with a farm atmosphere for travelers traveling through the Kalahari. We were received very kindly and the owner made sure that our needs were met. The cottages were clean and tidy and met our expectations. It was nice to be able to sit outside in the evening and look at the starry sky.
Without air conditioning one will suffer. The air conditioning worked well. Too bad the pool wasn't ready yet.
Gecko droppings everywhere in cupboards and in cutlery. Had to was plate before I could use it. There were spots on bedding. Place was full of dust. Shower water runs very poorly.
The reception was poor and we ordered ice e.g. and never received. The maintenance of buildings and premises has been neglected.
Shortage of cutlery, not even a complementary tea and coffee station on arrival. Braai was dirty.
Nice view. Just a pity management does not pay enough attention to cleanliness. House is full of dust inside and you share your house with mice.
Chalet 1's photo outside is deceiving. Chalet is much closer to other chalets. Chalet has a lot of dust. The air conditioner was not on on arrival and could not cool the place. So is the fridge. No meals were offered. Toured the Cape and will not bother driving through this area again.
Baie netjies. Vriendelik. Skoon en beveel vir enige iemand aan.
We, including our 3 golden retrievers, were warmly welcomed at Slypsteen. After the long way, there was also a swimming pool - with a 'view' - which we did not expect! We had a great barbecue and experienced an incredible sunset while looking out over the beautiful vineyards, and slept peacefully. Thank you very much for your good facilities, wonderful service and for welcoming our furry kids too!
We slept over one night on our way to Augrabies Falls. We really enjoyed it. Nice, cosy place with a terrace and a wonderful view. Perfect for our family.
We were kindly received and accommodated to make our stay even more pleasant and comfortable. And so cheap! I recommend Whetstone to every traveler.
Very neat and clean. The view is stunning.
Sommer immediately felt at home. Until fresh roses in our room! Everything neat and clean. Can definitely recommend Grindstone.
Great quiet and pretty neat.
Very neat, friendly and accommodating, everything you need is there.
Beautiful guest farm. Beautiful charlets. Beautiful view over the orchards. Dinner and breakfast were delicious. Would like to put in a request that guests are given a menu with a choice of dinner and breakfast on weekends. We will definitely stay there again
The surroundings, the chalet, the 'braaipakkie' were amazing. It wasn't a braai packet at all. It was a braai pák with dessert. Tasteful! The amount of meat and the tasty side dishes were excellent. The same can be said of the breakfast. Just amazing value for money. We will definitely stay here again if the opportunity arises. Thank you very much. Drove away there heavily.
Very friendly reception, helpful and excellent value for money.
Summer is much warmer between the rocks and the wind can be unpleasant for barbecues by the pool. Otherwise very nice peaceful getaway.
Stayed two nights and really enjoyed it. Service was good and staff friendly.
St. "rustic" but equipped with everything needed. Beautiful views over vineyards and river. Good value.
Convenient location on the main road between Groblershoop and Upington. The chalet is comfortable, clean and equipped with all amenities. Nice and peaceful view of the farm from the top deck and the Orange River is a short walk from the chalets. Dinner there is a must! It was very pleasant, a well prepared meal, and way too much food for one meal. Leg of mutton, pie, a sweet potato dish, pumpkin pie, dessert etc. They also serve the meal in your chalet. Highly recommended.
Enjoyed stay here.
Everything was clean and tidy. Nicely furnished. Nice stay.
Good place for a 1 night stay. Just a pity the air con did not cool down the whole room, you only felt the cool air if you were lying on the bed right below it. Otherwise neat and clean.
Only aircon in one room. Gravel road not very good for sedan vehicles, especially ones with low clearance.
See stars.
Comfortable enough, but can do with a proper cleaning.
I booked chalet 1 which was available and asked to be served dinner and breakfast. Apparently due to illness in the family I was given chalet 10 and there was no dinner, nor breakfast available the next day! I left and forfeited my deposit!
Very beautiful location with clean and practical chalets.
Nice stay. Beautiful! We come again!
We enjoyed the stay very much. The dinner was particularly delicious.
Beautiful units. You wake up to the most beautiful sunrise. I recommend Slypsteen highly to anyone travelling through the Groblershoop area.
Good value for money, fantastic accommodation, clean, neat, safe, most beautiful view, words can't describe, will definitely recommend it to others.
Lovely to stay there. Everything is neat.
Comfortably furnished and all the windows of chalet 1 have beautiful views. Pay attention to the loose shower head.
Have no complaints about Slypsteen Guest Farm. Our unit was spotless and very comfortable. For anyone who likes a peaceful environment with a beautiful night sky, this place is perfect for sleeping over.
This place is located in a beautiful environment and it is simply breathtaking. Fantastic!
