It was our first visit to Loeriesfontein and Smurf's Den has all the basic amenities. The unit was clean and the little bottle of milk in the fridge was welcoming. We only stayed one night. The beds are very comfortable.

The place was basically brand new, everything you need for an overnight stay was there. Can really recommend it as an overnight destination in Loeriesfontein.
Recommendation: Please replace the mattress. The mattress is "slept through" in the middle.
People just need to be made aware that they have to bring their own soap for shower and sink.
A neat and very well equipped place to stay that exceeded our expectations. We were surprised to get the full DStv package. We have stayed in much more luxurious overnight accommodation where only limited Dstv channels were offered. The friendly hostess, Ané, went out of her way to make us feel at home. A surprising bonus was that our dirty laundry was found spotlessly clean and neatly folded without us asking for such a service. We have not received such a service anywhere else!
We only stayed one night but it was very nice. It rained the whole time so we did not experience much of Loeriesfontein.

We were received extremely friendly upon arrival. It's a most luxurious unit that offers everything you need for even a few days' stay. Bed linen, towels and cutlery were of high quality. We stayed at a total of 8 guest houses and singled out Smurfs as one of our favorite places to stay. The rate there is far below the average in Namaqualand. So it's more than value for money and we can recommend Smurfs.
Smurfs Den made us feel at home and we will definitely visit there again.
The woman understands how a room should be furnished, that guests have a great time and have everything at hand.

In Brandvlei, I was advised to travel to Loeriesfontein along the gravel road. I loved the scenery and tranquility; it was a very quiet road. Loeriesfontein is a quaint little village, and the people are very down-to-earth. I intend to visit again in the next year or so.

But some recommendations/our picks. TV in the kitchen instead. We can't lie on the bed and watch TV because neck hurts. A little more barbecue equipment please. More load shedding lights please.

Smurfs Den's big advantage is that it is not on the main road and also further away from the shops and the traffic. It's quite small and simple, but contains all the necessary facilities for a one-night stay. The owner offered her help with anything that might be missing. However, there is a sewage problem at Smurfs Den that requires urgent attention. As a result, there is a stench as soon as you step outside the unit. This applies to all the units at Smurfs Den, not just the one where we stayed.
We enjoyed the stay. Beautiful unit with everything needed. The view from our unit wasn't great as we had the staff quarters and the backyard to look onto. No shower curtain so it was a bit tricky to keep the floor dry.
A sign is required to indicate the location.

It was very cold. Snow just lay on the fields, but there were enough blankets and a heater that made it nice and cozy. It is on a farm and the silence was wonderful. The view is very beautiful and everything was there that made our stay very nice. Will stay there again.

It would have been convenient if there was a shelf in the shower for shampoo and soap. The unit is nice, neat and clean. I would just like more bowls to make into food like something to put salad in, something to use in the microwave and maybe a plastic bowl or two to store leftovers. A cutting board will also come in handy.

The location on the outskirts of the Klein Karoo village with its wide view makes you feel you are in the field, not in a village, which is very nice. It's very quiet and peaceful. Would appreciate a coffee "plunger" and outside chairs.
After a long drive, we spent a pleasant evening and night in a cosy room with self-catering facilities. A nice big refrigerator took care of the content of our cool boxes, and refreezing of our cooling elements. In our unit suitable for 2 guests it would have been useful to have had a smaller saucepan, as well as a bigger one. The very big saucepan available was rather big for boiling eggs, for instance. A bread knife, bread board, and tin opener would also have been welcome. But perhaps the other units might have had those things. All in all, our stay was very comfortable, thank you.
Clean and tidy. Located on the side of town with views to the south. The free WiFi was a bonus. It was not clear whether breakfast was indeed available and where one had to arrange it.
It's compact but nice. No. 10 has the most beautiful duvet cover - Ané, where did you find it? The only thing I really missed is a braai tong to turn meat on the grill. But for the rest - we had a lovely stay and Ané is going to see us again for sure. If you plan to drive from Calvinia to Loeriesfontein, drive the 70 km dirt road if you love nature. It's a nice dirt road - would even drive it with a normal car. The scenery, the vygies and the scenery ... and the biggest surprise: quiver trees! Loeriesfontein is beautiful with wonderful people. Ané and her team at Smurfs Den earn 100%!
