Sonnestrale House is situated in the town of Margate located on the south coast of KwaZulu-Natal. The town is located about 20 km south-west of Port Shepstone and well known for its beaches, snorkelling and surfing. An ideal getaway for those seeking a vacation of leisure.

Accommodation comprises 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. The main bedroom features 1 queen-size bed, as well as the second bedroom. The third bedroom features twin single beds, and fourth bedroom located downstairs features 3 bunk bed sets.

The first and second bathroom is fitted with a bathtub with shower head and toilet. The third bathroom is fitted with a shower and toilet and the fourth bathroom is fitted with shower and toilet. There is also a lounge with a Smart TV and DStv, however, guests should bring their own decoder and smart card. Wi-Fi is available.

Establishment facilities on-site include a patio with built-in braai (please bring own grid) and 2 lock up garages as well as extra parking at the back of the house through the small gate on the side of the house.

"House in bad condition, not maintained and not clean."

For the money you pay you would think there would at least be a washing machine, but there wasn't, nor was there a washing line. They also didn't mention it on the website until about 3 days before we arrived. The downstairs bedroom was full of lice and everyone who slept there was full of bites. The mattresses on all the beds are cooked and no one can sleep on them. The unit had not been properly cleaned in months and you can see that the front is only cleaned quickly before new people come in. Lots of cockroaches in the cupboards and drawers that are not cleaned. The crockery all had to be rewashed because much of it was dirty. The unit can sleep 12 people but there is only a small fridge which does not have enough space for everyone's food and drinks. Luckily we took two fridges and at least there was a box freezer. The furniture in the living room is worn, dirty, broken material and you hardly even feel like sitting on it and here too there are bugs that eat you if you sit still for more than 10 minutes. The braai facilities are large enough but the grills and braai itself are rusted and burned through. We reported an exterior light that was out and it was never replaced. Some of the outside chairs were broken but at least they were replaced when we complained about them. A cell phone was stolen through one of the windows so the house is not very safe. I called the agency and wanted to speak to the agent in person. The lady in the office herself was very protective and said that he was very busy, as if she was trying to keep you away from him. The next day I called again and again it said he was busy. After I threatened, Marius came to the house. He brought two cleaners to clean the house again because we complained that it was dirty. They put clean sheets on the beds. I went through the house with Marius and pointed out and discussed everything for him. He undertook to discuss it with the owner. He also mentioned that he was not actually aware that the house was in such a bad condition but that he agreed there are many things such as the mattresses, furniture and general maintenance that the house really lacks. He would have come back to us to give feedback on the possible replacement of some of the mattresses but he never did. At least he replaced the two garden chairs and the braai brush. It is actually a great pity that this house looks like this. This is a nice big house with 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms making it ideal for a large family. The bedrooms all have a sea view and it is 200m from the sea. There are no other houses in front of you. The house is wonderfully located. The agent is friendly but I get the impression that the owner is not keen on doing the maintenance on this house. The house is also on the market so I don't know if that might be the reason. My opinion is that if the owner renovates this house, replaces the furniture and spends money on the property then he can charge more for the rent on the spot due to the location and size. He will then also get customers who repeatedly rent the place from him again due to the size and location. The sad thing about the situation is that a photo does not really show you what is going on in the house. LekkeSlaap should preferably not list this house until the mistakes are fixed because I feel it also damages your reputation. It was very difficult to go on vacation for 18 days with a sore back and lots of bites on the body every day, but as my sister said, at least we're going back home with something, even if it's bites.
