Very good location and quiet. Picked for the nice surroundings, the stars, the fresh air and to do a mind reset. Modern amenities just enough not to do hard camping. Warm water and a flush toilet make it comfortable without losing the camping experience. And we had data coverage as it is just close enough to the R63.
Very quiet and comfortable.
Perfect, peaceful and safe. Site beautiful and just what we needed. Thanks, Melissa .
I can sum it up in one word - fantastic. I camped there one night with my 12 year old daughter. We really enjoyed it. Would definitely recommend it. Will just remember to bring a grill next time.
A beautiful secluded spot to relax in. We unfortunately had a very windy and cold day, so we could not enjoy the outdoors as we planned. We will definitely be back to enjoy it properly.
A very convenient, beautifully situated campsite. Sites are large with private facilities.
It was very nice.
Chosen as overnight place but will return for a few days on the next occasion. The nature is like in a fiction picture, no human noise and the starry evenings are lyrical - choose a night with no moon!
A heavenly experience.
It's one of those places where you find your soul. It's you, the stars, the sheep, badgers and a very curious mouse dog. Amazing location, I only realized there were other campers when we left the campsite. Each has its own very clean bathroom, an outside sink, power, canopy and barbecue. The splash pool is lovely on hot days. I felt part of nature and very safe.
It was perfect! Ideally located, the splash pool with this wonderful view was a rare treat!
We really enjoyed camping at Soutpoort, all the facilities are neat and the swimming pool is a relief in the Karoo heat. Will definitely want to come back!
Absolutely fantastic. Private and quiet, with everything you need.
Wonderful location and great facilities.
A special place where one can just relax.
The location between the stone cups was excellent for us, the bathroom was immaculately clean, the rubbish bin was emptied and we had a great time there. Take just enough wood with you for a fire. Just remember MTN has no catchment here, only Vodacom and Telkom.
Generally, it is the ideal place for people who want to get away from the noise. We stayed at Camp no. 3 stood. The privacy on the swimming pond/braai area side was disappointing as you look directly down on campsite 2 (although far from you) but every time campsite 4's people or visitors drive, they drive past your hangout. Furthermore, the place is clean and the visiting time was wonderful.
Beautiful unique environment between the granite hills. Excellent facilities and the swimming pond is a winner.
A well needed time of peace, star gazing was absolutely amazing, nights are so quiet you feel alone in the world.
My husband and I were pleasantly surprised! Everything was perfect! We loved the silence. The "pool" is a great bonus!
Very nice, neat, secluded. Perfect views over the Karoo plains!
Soutpoort was a pleasant surprise. We had a great time relaxing and enjoying the surroundings.
If you like silence and tranquility where you can hang out under cover with a neat bathroom, this place is definitely recommended. Just bring your own lights. There is a converter to charge your mobile phone and to make some LED lights work. The little swimming pond also had clear clean water which was definitely a winner for the hot days. Only problem we encountered was that there was no MTN reception. Vodacom and Telkom signals were there.
Surrounded by stone cups and absolute privacy.
Facilities excellent, hostess particularly helpful, would recommend for sure. Is really good destination to unload, will visit again on next long trip.
Nice stay! Can recommend it.
It was great! Very friendly and good hostess with good communication.
Perfect place to get away from the noise. Incredible stars in the evenings. Soutpoort is a feeling, not a place, and I would recommend that feeling to everyone.
We had a fabulous stay, and enjoyed trail runs and the wildlife, such a beautiful location, the site was well maintained and everything working, better than expected. Worth a visit. 5 Stars.
Was the best place to end a nine day Northern Cape trip. Also really enjoyed Loxton and it's so close to the campsite. Good ground clearance vehicle recommended.
See stars.
Tranquility times seventy!
We really enjoyed it, especially the beauty of the ablution facilities, swimming hole and surrounding area. We were thankful that we had a 2x4 and an offroad caravan, as we were not informed beforehand that the road is a dirt road and more suitable for vehicles with high ground clearance as well as an offroad caravan. There was also no mention of the two gates and there was a fork in the dirt road where we weren't sure if we should turn left or right. Fortunately, we made the right choice. Our pitch was also not explained to us in advance which one it was. The owner (woman, I forgot her name) was very hospitable and carried us on her hands. Thank you.
Great place to relax and unwind. The scenery is great, it's quiet. Small plunge pool to watch the sunset. And the ablutions are very clean.
The communications issue was a real issue and was confirmed by two other groups of travellers. A promise to provide another gas cylinder was not honoured. We did meet the manager who is lovely and I tried to address the communications issues with her. All we got in return were lame excuse after lame excuse. For example, she had been caught up with a baby shower! Simply not acceptable. She just doesn't respond!
Real Karoo, nice private, private pool (cement dam). Can look at the most beautiful stars.
This place is very special! The Karoo stars. The Karoo sunset. Unbelievably beautiful! Thank you very much Melissa for an unforgettable stay! The Karoo lamb chops were delicious!
If you are looking for a place for peace and tranquillity Soutpoort is for you. One of the best campsites we have been to.
The silence and nature is truly something to experience and appreciate.
Really well thought out set up and ablutions. Bathmats were a great touch. Fab plunge pool. Comes highly recommended, great stop over on Johannesburg to Cape Town trip or for a few days R&R.
About 10min outside Loxton, in a 'rocky outcrop' in the middle of nowhere. The silence does something to your soul. Unfortunately there is still cell phone signal!
A light in the bathroom would be very useful.
There are few places where you can be so peaceful with such a beautiful view of the world around you.
You can't get any closer to creation! God's handiwork leaves you gasping for breath.
Simply beautiful. A must stay for nature lovers.
So beautiful among the stone cups, with an excellent campsite and private ablution pad. Melissa, our lovely hostess had delicious Carrot Joppies to sell us. The weather was bad all over the country that night, but would love to go again if we can enjoy and appreciate nature more!
Camping facilities are very well done. Bathrooms are spotless, clean and are big. Each campsite has their own facilities.
Beautiful camp among breathtaking rock formations. Bathroom is beautiful, neat and spacious. Beautiful swimming pool. Will definitely visit again. Delicious Karoolam bought from Melissa.
Quiet spot, need 4x4 to get to the 2 camp sites.
Perfect for an overnight or even for a few days. Very peaceful and quiet. Not too far from the main road, but just far enough that you don't hear the traffic.
Nice setup, easy access for a stopover.
The perfect place to relax and unwind. Drinks in the little pool with stunning views of the rocky hills all around you. Will definitely be back.
It was a great place to relax and enjoy nature, will definitely go again.
Owners very friendly, great place to break away into nature and just enjoy the peace and quiet while still having the luxury of a hot shower and clean ablution facilities.
Was very nice facilities and area. The cooling pool with water was nice after a long day on a motorbike.
Here you switch off completely. No neighbors just you and nature.
It is the place to go if you want to get back to nature and cleanse your mind. Road leading up to the campsite not for low sedans.
Unfortunately the gas geyser didn't work, so no hot water. I connected full gas bottle, no difference. I didn't want to bother owner late at night.
Beautiful campsite. Between the beautiful stone cups. Place is clean and tidy. The bathroom is a bonus as well as the solar power at stand 2. Melissa and Herman were very pleasant and helpful and were kind enough to freeze us a lot of fish. The road was bad and washed out from all the rain, but at least we could have reached the campsite. All that was unpleasant was the terrible icy cold furious wind that blew through the gorge with a jerk and a pluck. We could only sleep 4 nights out of 8 nights we booked. The furious wind broke off 2 of our caravan's swing awning arms when we tried to set up in the terrible wind.
There you can definitely recharge your batteries and be in nature. At the right time of the year the field is very beautiful.
I would rate this place with more than a 5 star. It was truly amazing. We were met by a extremely friendly and helpful Melissa and her two gorgeous daughters. It was probably the best camping experience that I have had and I will definitely recommend it. From the absolutely beautiful and dramatic landscape, to the star gazing at night, the best gas shower that we had seen in our entire 8 day road trip, all basic amenities catered for from the dish rack at the wash up area to the large table which could be used for eating and food preparation and the hot and glorious shower. Pity we did not get a chance to use the sparkling clean plunge pool. I definite must for those who like complete tranquillity, privacy and just to be one with nature. Thank you and we will be back!
Unbelievably very beautiful. Wish we could have spent more time walking around and exploring but it was incredibly raining. Will definitely want to go back.
This was the best campsite I have ever stayed at. We loved the privacy, the view, the host and the overall experience.
The camp at Soutpoort pleasantly surprised us with your own bathroom and swimming pool far from any guests. The surroundings and the view are breathtakingly beautiful and we rested well. The owners are friendly and very helpful, they will definitely see us again.
This camp site was all and more than what we were expecting.
It was an amazing experience to be able to get away from the busy life in the city! Haven't experienced the milky way and stars like between the stone cups for a long time! This is a camping gem! Would highly recommend it!
This is a little gem among the hills a short drive outside Loxton in the Karoo. Very nice, clean, tidy, beautiful location, excellent service. Best place to admire the sunset, starry sky, full moon and sunrise. Highly recommended for a time of silence and seclusion.
We had an enriching camping experience for two wonderful days on the farm Soutpoort between Carnarvon and Loxton in the Hardemanskaroo. Hendrik and Melissa van Soutpoort recently set up two beautiful campsites between the klipkoppies on their farm. The place touches one's being. I wish we could camp longer. The campsite is beautifully developed between stone cups that give privacy while the two independent campsites are close to each other. Each campsite has a neat bathroom and porch with washing facilities. Each also has a large canopy and a lovely little swimming pool with an incredible view. There is Vodacom collection but not MTN. We had a lovely bike ride, jogged, went for a walk, climbed hills, looked at San drawings, drove a 4x4 and visited Loxton, which is only 15 km away. We will be camping there again soon.
If you need silence and privacy - this is the place.
Was a lovely stay, very neat and clean.
It's an excellent campsite for the busy workers to rest and just enjoy the silence - very hospitable and wonderful people.
Had a great time. Facilities were very neat and clean with a lovely large bathroom. The pool a bonus. We also liked the idea that there were only two pitches, far apart which creates the feeling that you have a piece of the Karoo all to yourself. The stars were something to behold.
The setting is absolutely beautiful. We had an amazing stay. Thanks so much for sharing something so beautiful.
Nicely secluded and nice clean.
