Very comfortable and clean units. Lovely, peaceful atmosphere. Everything you need is there. Beautiful fields of flowers to enjoy. Owner very friendly and helpful.
It was amazing, so quiet and peaceful.
Although it is a bit expensive during flower time, it is simply a must stay destination! I wouldn't want to sleep anywhere else. Being in nature and among flowers is a million times more pleasant than feeling trapped in the town between buildings, traffic and people. The environment is beautiful! What I do not like is being honest about the accommodation and thereby reducing my chances of getting a place there for next year!

We enjoyed being out of town but not so far that we couldn't get there should we need to. The hosts were helpful and kind. We also loved the farm dogs who came to visit. We had a very nice stay. Everything was clean and tidy. The area is very quiet and peaceful. Dirt road is not too bad and at least short, but buy stock in Springbok before you drive out to avoid unnecessary up and down driving. Houthuis was perfectly equipped for 2 people. Only negative point was the WiFi, it is very weak and cuts out as soon as you try to send anything more than a WhatsApp.
Very nice and peaceful place. The starry sky in the evening is something to behold. Can't remember the last time I saw the Milky Way. Took hundreds of photos. Tertius received us kindly and immediately made us feel welcome. Will definitely stay there again.

I had a wonderful stay, and got a sleeping buddy for free in the form of their sheep dog. Was bitterly cold and wet and my dog heart could not allow him to sleep outside. Slept warm and showered regardless of the cold. Coffee and tea in the rooms would be an asset.

What a wonderful place. The natural beauty cannot be described.
Beautiful location and lovely atmosphere. We booked 4 rooms as a group. One room's (Gray) air conditioner did not work at all and it was incredibly cold. The private room had a dirty sheet on the bed which was removed by the staff. The cleaners just folded the sheet and didn't even replace it with a clean one the next day, leaving the dirty sheet on the chair in the kitchen area. The WiFi is unfortunately very weak and there is basically no mobile phone signal.
No, sorry to say, for R1300 per night not at all. Bedding full of greasy spots and old. Towels were worn out 5 years ago. Shower mat still only wisps!
Our host received us kindly. We stayed in wooden house number 2. It was very neat and clean. The bedding and towels need a little TLC (tender loving care). It's very thin and can be replaced. The cutlery (expired tea spoons) can also be replaced. The faucet at the sink in the bathroom is loose and a new shower head could be suggested. But nothing that spoiled our visit. Otherwise it was peaceful and quiet and the air conditioner certainly helped in the cold nights.

Total misrepresentation. The hostess made many promises, but I didn't even meet her. Extremely poor linen, towels and weathered curtains.
Perfect place for a quick stopover. Feels like you're in the middle of nowhere with the surrounding mountains and spectacular sunsets, and still it's just a 10-minute drive to Springbok.
Delightful chalet and had basically everything we needed for a one-night stay. The owners could maybe pay a little more attention to detail, like the fact that the cupboard containing the crockery is under a countertop, to the right, so you have to crawl underneath to get the plates out. The gas bottle has pride of place in the easily accessible under-sink cupboard. The cottage is for two people, perhaps a small salad bowl and a few decent knives? But a lovely spot, and the hostess was amazingly friendly and helpful.

Great stopover after a long day of travelling. Wonderfully spacious and safe for kids (and adults) to stretch their legs and explore the beautiful surroundings. We loved seeing the quiver trees up close, and the kids had a ball climbing the rocks with the resident Jack Russells in tow. The beds were comfy, and the kitchen had the basics we needed. A very worthwhile stopover, and I would definitely recommend it. Great value for money. It is close enough to Springbok to eat out and stock up.
What an amazing place to stay. It feels like the middle of nowhere, but it is actually only a few kilometers outside of town. The road was quite treacherous after the rains for our road bikes, and Tertius was very accommodating in making a trip to town for us just to arrange some food and drinks. Excellent amenities with everything you might possibly need in a very relaxed environment.

Springbok surprised me with its people and the environment is absolutely "great". I marvel at the sunrise and the starry sky in the evenings. All one's needs are on Springbok. From the optician, who fixed my glasses for free, to the people at the butchery, friendly, helpful, thank you very much.
This is our 3rd time there and thoroughly enjoyed each time. Will see you again. Walk carefully.

It was bitterly cold, but the cottage is well equipped to prepare meals inside. Owners are very friendly and helpful.

Pleasant Namaqualand atmosphere.
The units are spacious with a little kitchen, a little table and chairs and a lovely shower in the bathroom. The patio is covered, ideal to sit and enjoy the views. There is uncapped Wi-Fi in the cottages and a small pool close to the reception area. There you can view the Milky Way and other stars in the pitch black nights! There are a large variety of plants to see if you walk around the surrounding area as well as quiver trees on the farm. Sperrgebiet is a perfect destination to experience the bush but close enough to a Town to get supplies, eat out or access the highway. We extended our stay and they accommodated us with an extra bed for my son in a smaller unit that normally takes two people. Marelese was friendly very helpful and available at any time, had a great stay and will be back again.
We only stayed overnight as we were traveling but it is very beautiful and the cottages are well equipped and we had a nice barbecue.

Hospitable, beautiful, clean and tidy.
Sperrgebiet Lodge is about 2.5 km from the main road (N7) and any vehicle can get there comfortably using the dirt road. It's wonderfully quiet and peaceful and when you step out of your accommodation, you are simply in nature - wonderful! I just went for a walk on the farm, there is enough space. My accommodation had everything needed to make it very pleasant the three nights I stayed there. I used it as my base to explore the surrounding area, such as the Goegap Nature Reserve. This is definitely a place to remember, because there are absolutely no sounds of heavy and other vehicles speeding by on the N7. Here one can switch off if one would like to switch off.
There was power even during loadshedding and amazing to even braai outside under the stars in winter. Dogs were extremely friendly and a real comfort to have around. Very hospitable and friendly resort with cosy cabins that are really tidy.
This place is one of our favorites.

It's a very neat dirt road to the Sperrgebiet Lodge. The cottage was equipped with a gas/flame geyser which instantly heated the water. There is wifi and DStv facilities. The surrounding area has quince trees and the scenery was something wonderful. If there is no cloud cover, the Milky Way will immediately make you feel like you are no longer in the city. Thank you very much for the nice stay and we definitely slept well.

Everything was there: braai, kitchen, Wi-Fi, safety, little pool, and in the de neighbourhood of Goegab NP and Springbok.

The destination is perfect for an off-grid experience. From there we went on day trips to various small dorpies and the nearby Goegap Nature Reserve.
Would be nice to have better instructions on how to operate the hot water system for the shower.

I've stayed there a few times and I've enjoyed the peaceful "out of town" location even though it's a bit off the road. It's a good stopover on the Namibian route. The bungalows are well-equipped, clean and comfortable. A good braai spot with a lovely view.

We stayed 1 night on our way to Namibia. The cottage is well furnished and beautifully situated in the field just outside Springbok. There is an opportunity to walk in the field and is especially recommended in the flower season.

Small kitchen with amenities (microwave, fridge, 1 hot plate). Good braai facility (can buy wood from owner). Shower facilities are fine, water pressure not great. Plenty of bedding, towels, pillows. Difficult to seat 4 people inside the chalet (small table with limited seating). Several friendly dogs on the premises.
Excellent location with a very nice setting. Nice roast there. A few detail things can make it even better. A complimentary soap for washing hands and a few bags of coffee or tea for when one lands in the room will show that attention is also paid to the smaller things.

It is a peaceful stopover outside the busy town area. You are surrounded by beautiful granite mountains with several quince trees on the stone ridges around you. You can also enjoy walking around. The chalets are comfortable and show good taste.

Owner received us kindly and explained the accommodation arrangements to us. The units were neat and clean and everything worked. The night view of the stars was exceptionally beautiful as they were open and there were no unnecessary ambient lights that obstructed the view.

Very nice view. Accommodation needs attention. Bed poor quality and old. When I arrived, only the maid was there. No remote control for the air conditioner, so I get another smaller house to stay in.
Gas geyser did not work. Logged in but still not working. Cold shower for 2 days. Breakage also absolutely unacceptable. Plates need to be replaced. Casserole no handle. Pan unusable. Advertising WiFi, no or infrequent reception.
Sperrgebiet Lodge is the ideal overnight accommodation. Friendly check-in and check-out. All the amenities required were available and more. The tranquility and natural beauty make you want to change your travel plans and spend more nights.
Tertius and Marelize, as usual, went out of their way to make us feel at home. Sperrgebiet is our favorite overnight stop on Springbok. Lovely open spaces, unbeatable views and comfortable houses. Our kids (and our dog) love all the space to explore.

Owners friendly and helpful. The most beautiful environment between the ridges and quiver trees. Location is good. The most beautiful sunrise comes over the stone ridges. If you want to break away from the stand, this is the ideal place to rest. Nature offers you a peaceful atmosphere. Would definitely stay there again or even spend a long weekend.

What an incredibly peaceful atmosphere. The view from the pool is amazing. Rooms are super clean and perfectly furnished for either a one night stay or a weekend. I had a little trouble regulating the shower's hot water, but you can have a wonderful shower if you manage.
So sorry we didn't already know about this place in 2021's flower season. Maybe it wasn't available then, because everything looks brand new. It's a beautiful house with everything you need. And nice and close to the parkrun that takes place on the golf course.

Everything from start to finish is delicious. Roadside self-care has a new face. Each room is made with love and care. The view is breathtaking, a warm welcome from man and animal! A real barbecue, tongs and a nice silver-clean grill - ready for the meat, salad and glass of wine! I took the most beautiful pictures ever of the milky way! We drive home with a box of plants. Surprisingly really nothing and nowhere. Silence that sings in your ears. Lovely stay with everything you need. And of course the most beautiful. The milky way as close as you want to touch it. Would definitely stay there again and even longer.

This little place was out of town, as we prefer it. It is far enough from the N7 to avoid any noise. The host and wife were very friendly and helpful.

Beautiful view, peaceful camp atmosphere, neat, clean. Too bad shade is scarce against the desert sun for a guy's vehicle.
Our particular unit did not have chairs to relax on (only small bar stools). The management then brought two camping chairs.

Very neat and clean with a lovely view. More benches in the shower and room for suitcases etc. will be appreciated. Hanging space for clothes in the shower is very limited. Too few power points to recharge cell phones and flashlights.

Arrived late in the evening and headed into town for a delicious dinner at the Springbok Lodge. The place was very clean, had every necessity required, with a lovely warm shower to get warmed up in. Braai facilities, biking, running and just fantastic stargazing on offer. Our stay was too short and we hope to return one day.

The perfect overnight stop on the way to the West Coast. The wooden house is well equipped and is very neat and clean. The highlight was lighting the fire with the picture-perfect mountains in the background, and later being able to sit under the bright starlight. We really enjoyed our evening there.

We spent the night at Sperrgebiet Lodge on our way to Upington. My two daughters, 6 and 9, enjoyed the farm immensely, just wanted to explore. We could see them all the time from our porch and they were off into the plains, followed by the friendly farm dogs. The cabin is perfect with everything you need. Nice space below and two beds above, another adventure for the children. Clean and very tidy. The Van der Merwes will surely visit again!
After 9 hours on the road from Namibia, Springbok was an appropriate overnight choice to pull off somewhere in time for curfew. Marlise is friendly, hospitable and a fresh breeze that makes you feel right at home. The cottages are storybook-beautiful and very comfortable with extra treats such as DStv and air conditioning. After the long time sitting in the car, Sperrgebiet offers wonderful wide plains with spectacular rock formations where especially children will be able to happily and safely mow to get rid of excess energy while the adults are grilling some meat. The restaurant was unfortunately not functional thanks to the Covid measures. Would love to pop in for breakfast.

I am so sorry we only booked for two nights, our house looked out over the mountains with Kokerbome in the foreground. It was incredibly peaceful, felt totally safe and Marilise made us feel so at home. Will definitely visit here again and can recommend it to anyone.

The chalets are very nicely laid out so that each one is private. WiFi is available but too far to give useful signal. The environment is unique with interesting rock formations, stones and of course the huge quiver trees. The starry sky is beautifully clear at night.

We were very surprised by the beautiful scenery of the farm. In the pictures it looked very bare but when we got there it was surrounded by the most beautiful mountains and view. The cottages were painstakingly neat and clean and had everything we needed.

The road leading to the premises is in a bad condition, but fortunately it is quite short. The staff are friendly. Rooms have welcome air-con. The accommodation is clean and has ample crockery and cutlery. The mountain views are fantastic.

The stay at Sperrgebied Lodge definitely exceeded our expectations. The kindness with which we were received is one big plus. There are many walking opportunities for the brave walkers and those who want to ride the children's bikes along. This will keep them busy for a very long time. The view is very special and the uniqueness of the whole environment is enough to make you want to move there. Feel free to also make use of their breakfast option. It is truly worth it and even for the big eaters there is enough to keep your stomach quiet for a while. Will definitely sleep over there again. N.S. Make a little effort and hang out with the people. They can tell you a lot about the area and what is going on there.

Springbok needed a place like this. Just outside town, quiet, beautiful area, and the owners and their shepherd dogs made us feel at home. Despite the fact that there were no flowers, we really enjoyed our stay. We could walk for kilometers in nature with its exceptional quiver trees. Then we had the dogs that accompanied us on our walks. Our host and wife contributed to our lovely stay.
We spent one night at the Lodge. It's a good place to stay, well located and easy to get to. The units are well furnished, neat and well maintained. I would definitely recommend it.

Friendly reception that is very helpful and of course the quiet atmosphere with the bright stars and milky way above you in the evening with no sounds except a fox calling now and then, accommodation was excellent and the rooms are incredibly neat and clean. Definitely recommend.

The quiet and beautiful environment make everything worth it. The comfortable beds after a long and arduous journey also great. We were warmly received by Tertius. Tidy, fully equipped accommodation. There was even a grill for the braai. The lay out of the houses provided enough privacy. Perfect place to enjoy the stars and the stilness of the Karoo. Would probably work well during the flower season. If possible they should put a mirror next to a wall socket for those who want to look pretty.

Located close to the N7 but far enough to experience nature and silence. Friendly and helpful host and spouse.
We drove a lot further than we thought it would be but were so happy that we could finally get to Sperrgebiet and stay in the lovely accommodation in such a beautiful place! Tertius took pains to make sure that everything was right. We highly recommend this accommodation near Springbok.

Very good reception, the units are clean and modern, the fridge was a surprise and more guest houses (self-catering units) can make use of the bigger Fridge/Freezer. The cleaning service also makes up for the price. Tongue in cheek: pity the swimming pool water wasn't clear and I am very sorry that we weren't able to use it, but yes, a brand new swimming pool has its problems.

Very friendly reception and place extremely tidy. Price I think a bit high. Already given feedback to Tertius regarding kitchen utensils. Braai area can be more protected from the wind.
Recommend this overnight accommodation. An advantage is the nice mountain bike trail that goes through the property.
Highly recommended for a group. It is so quiet that you cannot really have a nice time around the fire without your neighbours hearing you. Would be ideal with friends.

Accommodation is offered in 6 self-catering units, one of which is a family unit. Each compact unit features an en-suite bathroom and contains a TV with selected DStv channels and free Wi-Fi Internet access. Each unit has access to a braai area with lovely views of the farm to admire. Guests have access to the communal swimming pool, located close to the units.
During the Spring months, guests can hear the call of the grasshopper and the barking geckos. Bird watchers are encouraged to bring their binoculars, as the owners have identified 69 different species of bird.
There are a variety of activities in the surrounding area for guests to enjoy such as bird watching, hiking trails; golf at a nearby golf course, and mountain biking routes. Namaqua horse trails are offered at a nearby farm, and the Goegap Nature Reserve is located within close proximity to the lodge.
The owners of the 300-hectare farm realised their dream and bought this piece of land a few years ago with the aim of living a soulful and quiet life, far away from the town's hustle and bustle.
