The family room was great except for the shower handle, which needed attention from the maintenance team. The dinner and breakfast were excellent. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Comfortable, clean and safe.
I sent up my team of five who were doing a week-long project at the accommodation. It was value for money for a chalet and nice and close to the site. My team reported back that each bed only had one blanket and no spares on site. Given it was winter, they were very cold. The two-plate cooker was so slow to heat that they struggled to cook food on it.
A bit disappointed because swimming pool and play park for the children were out of order.
No extra blankets in the room, as well as no towels, coffee, sugar or milk in the kitchen.
No operational swimming pool in peak season. Not safe enough to walk to the beach. The bar fridge in the room was so small it only accommodated three cooldrinks and ice. Unable to adjust the fridge temperature to make it colder, therefore the ice was melting in the fridge. Always missing something at meals, e.g. curry without papadum. WiFi signal so weak struggled to receive calls. No solar panels or generator, so at times of load shedding everything went off - no lights, no TV, no air con, no WiFi. Would suggest purchase of a generator for load shedding, a bar fridge in each room whose temperature can be adjusted to make it colder, an operational swimming pool, consistency in the quality of meals, full DSTV package including sport, trays for room service, clean linen and towels for guests staying longer than three days, and bigger cereal bowls.
Would not recommend to anyone. Bad smell inside, no towels. Lots of flies.

Our "booking" showed "seafront", but we got back rooms. Still neat, but since there weren't many guests, I can't understand why we couldn't get a front seat. However, the Staff were all friendly and hospitable. They went out of their way to make us feel welcome, even specially switching the TV on for us to our live Schools Rugby match. "Luigi" (don't know his real name), was exceptional! Then I also have to single out the lady from the Spa, who came out specially at 16:30 to let our teenager experience her very first back/neck and shoulder massage.
The self-catering unit 2, desperately needs some tlc. The beds were comfortable. No soap to wash one's hands in the bathroom. No ice trays in the freezer. The TV does not work and the braai stand did not have a grid to braai on. The owner needs to take pride in his establishment. I won't go back there.
Ate breakfast, was not tasty. Actually left most of it. To walk to beach was disturbing walking through refuse etc. no warning from hotel.
The 2nd day we were without electricity for 12 hours. From 14:00 until 02:00 the next morning. No explanation.
The place is old and neglected, no maintenance is done. No TV or sink plug. Holes in the roof and the walls were painted a long time ago.
It was smelly and outdated it needs a revamp.
The bedding and beds slept nice and comfortable but you can see the place has been neglected for years! The outside bins was not emptied / papers still laying around in chalet when we checked in.

We are so disappointed in our stay. When we arrived there we were kindly received. When we unlocked the room we were overwhelmed by a terrible rotten smell, as if something had died. And indeed we get a dead mouse. He must have been dead for several days from the smell. I then insist on another room because no human being can breathe in that room, what with the health risk. All that is available to us then are 2 rooms in the courtyard. Opposite each other. And so we had to decide how we would be split apart: the 2 parents in one room, and the children alone in the opposite room, or 1 parent in each room with 1 or 2 boys. That's not how one planned a holiday break. I am very grateful to Ben who helped us so nicely, and made things lighter, as well as the aunt in the bar. They are the best. Just a pity we as a family were broken up.
Luckily only stayed one night and then left. Photos and what you get are not the same.

Just a pity on arrival there was some confusion about our booking and payment. Reception handled it well. Everyone was very friendly.
Our room was spacious and adequately furnished, with a liberal supply of electrical sockets, a very comfortable bed, and a private balcony area from which we spotted seals, a whale, and numerous seabirds with our sundowners and our morning coffee. The action all seemed to be in the bar, which meant we had the dining room pretty much to ourselves. Dinner was tasty and reasonably priced, and served with the friendly personal touch we came to associate with this hotel. A very pleasant one-night stay. No complaints at all.

I initially booked at St.Helena Bay hotel for a non sea facing room however I did not feel happy with the whole setup. I asked for a sea facing room and the receptionist who was very friendly and helpful changed my room to a seafacing room. I loved it the moment I walked into the room. The view from the room was breathtaking. I loved the scenery the ambiance. I will definitely book again.

We were not shown where all amenities of hotel was, had to go look for where the pool is etc, bathrooms at the pool area only clean on first day, next day it looked awful and could not be used, employees going at each other in the bar on Sunday unacceptable and owner should deal with this appropriately! Chalet neat but found old slippers of previous guests under the bed, unacceptable!
I could not fault the customer service as staff was friendly. The accommodation itself was not bad at all. However, I had one problem with the fact that on closer inspection two of the four towels in the bathroom were dirty. They'd been used by the previous occupant and not removed. I felt that was unhygienic. Luckily I never needed to use it because I had my own towels.
Accommodation where we stayed run down and run down - not very tidy. Shower noise when opening. Doesn't seem like a very safe location. No night desk - no one at reception and security was asleep when one of us had a query. Forgot my iPhone earphones, no one has emailed back yet (although a website consultant emailed the establishment directly). Very noisy in the evening and cars come and go. Not sure if establishment has rules for non-overnight guests. Not on the beach and doesn't seem safe to walk to the beach. Would not recommend this establishment at all. My husband's electric toothbrush holder was broken and not reported to us, after cleaning staff came to clean it.
Reception very unprofessional. Chalet's bathroom light does not work. Get fixed while we're at it. Wi-Fi doesn't work. DStv had no reception after we returned later on day one. The staff cannot repair it and the DStv agent does not answer his phone. We have to pack up and move to another chalet. One mug and 1 small cup for coffee/tea. Just 2 100 ml drinking glasses and and 1 wine glass. No tongs or accessories. We have booked several places over the years. We have always been satisfied. The advertising photos are totally misleading. I won't even pay half price for this. Extremely disappointing and a waste of money!
The hotel staff went out of their way to make everything comfortable for us, the rooms are spacious and clean. There are nice braai facilities, a swimming pool, a bar, pool tables and your vehicle is safe on the premises. I would recommend the hotel to anyone looking to accommodate a large group or even just want to get away for a quiet weekend with children.
Place needs some renovation here and there, but we slept very well especially when they upgraded us to the 'Bridal Suite'. Food is delicious and very affordable, we ourselves are amazed at how little our bill was after the delicious dinner. For an overnight or weekend break, we would recommend it. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Although our room was upgraded, the rooms were not the same. Our friends were very unhappy with their room, no air conditioning like our room. Staff also not very friendly and unwilling to help. Will not stay there again.
Checked in on Sunday, upon arrival we hear that the restaurant is closed, no food available, no room service, we checked in precisely because a restaurant is advertised, in the room there is no M-net, reception and maintenance are unsure of what is going on because there must be M-net. Breakfast was a nightmare, it says available from 7am and by 7.20am we had to ask where is the coffee, milk, toaster and food. At least we had a pizza left over from the night before that we had to drive and go buy and we could eat it for breakfast. No fruit. Poor service.
At our arrival there was no person at reception. After asking four different staff members please. calling the receptionist, I still had to wait 20 minutes while my friends had to wait in the car. After the receptionist finally arrived, she was extremely rude and offered no excuse. On the contrary, her remark was that she was working there and not the owner. I asked to speak to the manager, after which she informed me that the manager was not there and no one in her place. On our way to our chalet we had to walk past an open sewer manhole covered with a piece of steel plate and a brick. The stench was unbearable. The bedding in the room was dirty and was definitely not replaced before our arrival. The pavement in front of the room was overgrown with weeds and grass, and the porch was filthy dirty. The only seat on the patio was an old bench on which years of algae and fungi are growing. Needless to say we rather skipped the breakfast (which was included in our stay).
We enjoyed the place, it's easily accessible. Staff were friendly and offered to help if u need something. Enough space in the room, clean linen and extra towels for the whole family. Children enjoyed playing on the playgrounds

Outstanding view from balcony. Very neat and clean room with massive shower. Safety of vehicle was an issue, even though it was parked inside, criminals scaled the wall. Breakfast included in room per night, but only enjoyed English Breakfast.
The accommodation was more than adequate and we would definitely be able to recommend it to people who need to stay overnight in the area.

We were first checked into an outside room which stank, the TV had no reception, the shower was dirty and the floor was sticky. It was also very noisy. After bringing the problems to their attention, we moved to a room inside the hotel which was comfortable and tidy. We forgot about our shopping in the closet and no one contacted us about it. not that. The restaurant's food is fantastic but the service is very slow.
It was really disappointing. Only 2 wineglasses - that doesn't look the same and 1 was cracked. The knife drawer had 2 knives - one with a wooden handle and the other one silver. 5 desert spoons, 1 fork and 2 teaspoons. No bread knife or sharp knives. Carpets were full of stains. It didn't come across as cared for or fresh, but tired. IT really didn't look like the made any effort. Everything looked old and tired. The hotel manager was very friendly and invited us for a free breakfast which was delicious.
To start we had to check in late because the room was not "clean", then when we checked into the room it was dirty and didn't look like there was any effort made to clean it! The sheets looked like it was not changed, we went to have alone time but we had someone knock at our door selling fish or something. We did not feel safe and the 1st night I was not comfortable sleeping there. U would think it's a hotel, it should live up 2 curtain standards but it doesn't!
If it wasn't for the hotel it would've been a bad 5 days. They were hospitable and entertained us to make up for the town where nothing goes on. Some of the best bars and restaurants we were at in a long time. Thank you.
Hotelroom that we got was fantastic, lots of hot water, food was brilliant, people so friendly and happy, for a small town like this, better service than in any of our hotels in Durban. Thank you for the first time experience to the West Coast.
The interior is old and just needs some attention. They can take down the old curtains, put up blinds, spruce up the bathroom a bit with new "grout" and replace the toilet seat because it's old. The shower is also neglected. The place needs paint and a fresher and newer "look". I think even you can ask R200 more, if it only gets "TLC". The bedding is clean, but also old and washed.
We only spent one night there. Was very nice. The staff is very nice and helpful. The food is incredibly delicious.
Stayed in a backpackers and expected just the basics. The rooms were very basic, even without a bin or bed lamp. The shower in the room regularly flooded. No night guard or someone to hand over the keys if you arrive late. The room stinks of smoke. Breakfast was good and reasonably priced.
Drawers broken. Bedside tables broken. Toilet water runs together. Neglected and decrepit.

The units for R720 per night were really not suitable with spiders next to the fridge and dirty knives and forks. The place didn't smell good and the fridge wasn't on. Construction is currently underway, but the rubbish is left in front of the chalet where we would stay and have a barbecue. After we complained, they did offer us another unit that cost much more per night, which we did not pay for. This place was beautiful and clean.
The housing units of the backpackers are absolutely unacceptable. The room doesn't even have a mirror. Very definitely not good for persons used to better.
Room and bedding clean and tidy. Breakfast was tasty and well prepared. Staff really went out of their way to make it comfortable. Definitely go back after the build is done. Would like to ask that there is something for the younger children, e.g. a play park especially for the 1 to 4 year old children.
Outside the grass was withered and the plants in the flower pots were dead. In front of our unit, 2 large dogs were closed in a camp and they were constantly barking and we had to stare into their manure. The windows outside were full of bird droppings. Our toaster was broken from the start, but it was never replaced.
They also never asked for any form of identification and had no idea that we even booked there. The bathroom light didn't work, and the toilet sprayed a jet of water onto the floor. The sink was leaking and there was only one power point behind the bed for the kettle. Furthermore, we slept well because we were exhausted!

Accommodation is offered in en-suite luxury hotel rooms, self-catering chalets, and backpacker bungalows all with en-suite bathrooms. The courtyard comprises an enclosed braai area with a stunning view where guests can enjoy a cocktail in the afternoon.
The Whale Creek Restaurant and Shipwreck Pub seats up to 50 guests and offer lovely views over the bay. Guests can also dine on the outside veranda, to enjoy the view enjoy some peace and quiet in our private lounge area. The shipwreck pub has its own unique character, its one of the oldest bars in the bay as fisherman in the old days used to meet at the pub after a hard works day at sea.
The hotel also offers an air-conditioned conference room which can host up to 50 delegates, as well as a spacious function hall can comfortably host 200 guests. The function hall has its own bar and kitchen facilities, and is ideal for wedding receptions, 21st birthday parties or any other function.
While the hotel projects a relaxed atmosphere, there is plenty to do in the surrounding area, kite surfing, fishing, hiking, bird watching and golf, just to name a few.
