Absolutely beautiful place! Stunning views in a peaceful setting. The cabin has everything one needs for a break from the city, and the fireplace was a welcome addition when the mist rolled in. The freedom and trust the hosts give their guests is wonderful, and when wandering along the lake or through the forests one truly can relax in nature! Will 100% be back whenever we can.

Very nice stay and visit!
The house is beautiful!
Excellent fishing weekend!
What a stunning place to visit! Such a nice gem in the heart of Heartensburg. Very nice views of large trees and dam. Such a serene and peaceful getaway. Friendly owners and great service. Comfy accommodation, linen, extra light in case of load shedding. Nice extra for fireplace if required. Will definitely return and highly recommend.
Wonderful experience. So much to do on the farm.
The view is absolutely beautiful from the cabin. We loved the fireplace in the evenings. Walks and runs on the farm are stunning, and my boys loved the mountain biking and fishing. The cabin is basic but is very well-equipped - everything you need to self-cater. The host was helpful. We would love to return.
Have fun and barbecue on the deck. Beautiful cottage with a nice view over the dam with everything you need for a peaceful weekend.
We were in the area for a wedding so unfortunately didn't spend as much time at the lodge as we would have liked, but excellent accommodation and beautiful location. The log cabin was perfect thanks.
We really enjoyed our stay.
The setting was beautiful. The accomadation was rustic. We were not asked to sign in, and did not see any security. A cleaning lady came on Saturday but we had just arrived, and we never saw any other staff after that. we stayed one night of the 3 we booked. this was our choice.
We had a wonderful time. The host is the most attentive and this was one of our most memorable holidays yet.
Was very nice. Nature scenes are breathtaking. Forest walk was an adventure. Had a nice rest. Nice swimming in the pond. Will definitely visit again.
Value for money. Very cute house and the weather was great. Will recommend.
It was very handy to have wood, matches and blitz that one could buy. Perhaps a map with the walking and cycling routes of the area would have been nice.
We had a very nice stay at Stanford. The cottage is as advertised, a value for money option, but was very comfortable for us with our toddler. Stanford has many activities on the farm itself and is in an excellent location for exploring the Magoebaskloof area. We would love to go back!
Highly recommended. We would go back.
We had a lovely weekend and will definitely return.
House is well equipped and clean. However, a berry farm with shade net across the lake spoils the view. Other than that, no complaints. We had a nice time.
Overall, our stay at the honeymoon cabin was nice and very private. However, there were a few cleanliness issues that could have been addressed. The walls could use a good wash, and the bathroom floor needs to be replaced as the wood is dented in. While we appreciated the privacy of the cabin, we suggest that the management pay more attention to the upkeep of the property. Perhaps putting up a sign to notify guests of ongoing renovations would be a good idea. Despite these minor issues, we enjoyed our stay at the honeymoon cabin and would consider staying here again in the future.
Not enough soundproofing between the units. I can hear if the neighbor is using the bathroom or even if they are participating in other activities. It is very unpleasant. There are also small scratching noises in the ceiling that sound like mice. It is very unnerving.
Bedding needs to be replaced. No top sheet on the beds. The place needs a clean, dust on the light fittings, toothbrush splatter on all over the basin area, the silicone around the shower has been put on haphazardly, bedside tables were not wiped, still had marks from previous people staying over. We were 4 people in a 6 sleeper with one bathroom and wouldn't recommend more than 4 people in the unit as it can be a challenge. The forest and surrounding grounds were great and the location is beautiful. I do believe that with 2 days of cleaning that the cabin can be brought up to spec.
This is a truly sad day for me as I have never posted a negative comment or review. Upon arrival at the unit that we booked, we found that there were already other holidaymakers in our unit. We phoned the owner of the establishment, and he was as confused as we were, he told me that he would investigate the matter and get back to me. To this day he has never returned my phone call or contacted me in any way to apologise or remedy the situation. Instead, the holidaymakers also phoned him and admitted that they were in the wrong unit, but since they were already unpacked, we should just stay in the unit that they were meant to stay in as they’ve stayed there many times before. May I just add that I always look at the photos of each unit on a listing and then decide to book the unit that I prefer most for a very specific reason. The unit we were forced to stay in was outdated and smelled of mildew as if it hadn’t been aired out for months. The bedding had stains and the bath/shower was neither a decent bath nor a decent shower. The bath loses water quickly and the water pressure and temperature of the shower were a disaster.
If I can only make one suggestion, they should get plastic or tin plates and cups for the children. Otherwise we had a very nice stay.
Accommodation was everything you could wish for. Well equipped, cosy and located in the perfect spot for fishing, walks and relaxation. Gavin kept us informed about the power outages which affected the entire area. Such an oasis!
We stayed in the Honeymoon Cabin. The view over the lake is beautiful. The directions to the cottage were clear, but I'm glad we arrived during the day because the entrance to our unit was very steep, there is also very limited space to turn your vehicle around. The "cabin" is very well equipped, I would especially like to mention the linen on the comfortable bed, it was luxurious and spotless. We have not stayed in such a well-kept place for a long time. We will definitely visit Stanford Lake Lodge again.
Beautiful place in wonderful setting. Flowers, forests, lake views, birdsong and fresh air. Whispering pines as you stroll along the roads. Very nice.
For us it was the height of relaxation. Lovely walk in the forest as well as past the Ebenezer Dam. Our cottage was well equipped. During the day the road was busy, but in the evenings it was dead quiet. The fireplace was a huge hit and the sundowners on a jetty that lies on Stanford lake is a memory that will stay with us for a long time. Would recommend anytime.
We loved being able to walk in this beautiful area.
Wow, what a view and managed to get some stars as well and need to return for more time there!
We had a wonderful stay in the Side Cottage, very clean and tidy. Nice and quiet with beautiful scenery. The Stanford Dam overflowed and the waterfall was something special to see and hear.
It was my husband's 40th birthday. Perfect place!
Nice view of the lake with short dirt road access that is even accessible by regular vehicle in rainy weather like we had. Gavin is friendly and helpful and makes an effort. Probably didn't stay long enough to be able to do everything there is to do.
We stayed in the 4 bedroom luxury cottage. Two bedrooms for each family with 2 bathrooms to share. A little off the beaten track if you need to travel in the dark. I have already suggested to Gavin that he puts up exit signs on the way out to avoid getting lost. Adequately signposted coming in. If it's been raining a low vehicle would not be suitable. At least a 4x2 would be fine. I have also suggested additional hooks at the back of bedroom doors and in the bathroom to hang up towels and additional items. We had smart wedding attire to hang up and the cupboard allocated was not high enough for longer dresses. I would also suggest that the lady who cleans comes in later after 11:00. We had her knocking at our door at 09:00 and were still busy with breakfast and getting ready for the day. We had to bring our own Wi-Fi router with us. Not having a TV was appreciated, but having Wi-Fi would be an added bonus.
Loved the accommodation, the location, the peace, the unpretentiousness of it all.
Our stay at Stanford Lake Lodge was memorable and lovely, great views and attractions.
Place is nice away from the noise. Just take a gas stove and solar lights with you, because they have a lot of power outages and it's very dark in the house even if it's daytime.
We had a great time and would recommend it if you need a break from the city.
The view and surroundings make it a lovely getaway. One's body can return to nature's rhythm. Nice long paths for walking and very nice bird watching.
We stayed in two of the "Budget Cottages". The cottages are very well equipped - from the kitchen to the bedrooms. We had a great time and relaxed on the nice big stoep. The fact that no day visitors are allowed is great because it is so quiet and peaceful. We can certainly recommend Stanford Lake Lodge.
Was perfek! Atmosfeer was uitstekend.
Lots of walking/biking trails - it was awesome. The Mountain Cafe comes highly recommended. Maybe they can just put up direction indicators on grounds there. It is within walking distance. Food is incredibly good and value for money. Biggest plus for me was the space of rooms.
Nature is beautiful. Very safe, tidy and quiet. We really enjoyed the weekend.
The house is very neat with a beautiful view. Nice clean with everything you need. Very quiet and peaceful.
See stars.
Was really the perfect place for a short break.
Had a great time but unfortunately had to leave earlier due to problems at home. But scenic spot.
Location excellent, view of the pond and lake was wonderful. For a family wanting to be with each other over the festive period, a family willing to sacrifice luxury, want to enjoy nature and be close to many other nature spots, this is good value for money.
Very nice.
Residences are what one needs for switching off from hectic life and atmosphere was peaceful.
It was easy to find using Google because the instructions from the resort itself did not give directions from the Polokwane side (this can be easily fixed). On the farm itself it was easy, even in the dark, to find the cottage. Good stay and value for money. The place to sleep, on a cold night in the mountains, was warm and comfortable. Another recommendation: turn on an outside light if you know people will arrive after dark. Had a good stay on the way to the wildlife park.
The entire stay and environment was totally relaxing and enjoyable. The environment and the location make you calm down and you forget about all your problems for the time you are there.
The cabin is well furnished, tidy and safe. Nature and birdlife are something to experience. A visit to the Growth Center is a must.
Well equipped unit, close to the dam. Nice to go home there.
Problem: toilet right next to the kitchen, no. Curtains were not compliant. Head bed makes a terrible noise when someone gets up. Inadequate for someone who is disabled. Maybe it can be addressed.
Pretty peaceful with a nice braai place next to a more spacious apartment and a walking trail near Haenertsburg.
Unfortunately, we could not make full use of the accommodation and facilities due to a too full program for the weekend. Still very satisfied.
The cabin is very private and has beautiful views on Stanford Lake and surroundings. Very well located and close to restaurants and other attractions. Great for mtb riding and hiking. The only minor distraction from total tranquillity is the proximity of the main road through Magoebaskloof to Tzaneen.
The surroundings are very beautiful and peaceful and you can hear yourself thinking. The accommodation is basic and economical but the unit definitely needs renovation. Our unit's cottage roof leaked in 2 places which forced us to come home a day early. I informed the owner to which he responded: They will look into it, but I just need to know that there was 55mm of rain. He also offered to help us next time at a discounted rate with a modern unit. The walls were dirty and a power point in the bathroom was open which is dangerous for 2 small children. But I can't fault the setting.
The house's roof is leaking water causing the whole place to stink incredibly. There is also mold in the bathroom. The braai does not have a decent grill either.
Stanford Lake Lodge was a lovely escape from the city for us. We had a great time. Due to weather conditions, the power supply was interrupted at times, but we were well informed about it before and during the time. It is a beautiful farm, with the most beautiful forest hiking trails and wonderful mountain bike trails. Beautiful waterfall and lake. We enjoyed it very much.
It rained at the weekend and the fog that came up over the pond was incredibly beautiful and together with the fireplace that was burning, created the nicest atmosphere! We would have liked to explore the area a bit more, but rain boycotted us, but the atmosphere certainly made up for it! The sun set out with us in the morning, peeking out, so before we drove, we went for a walk on the Forest route. The children really enjoyed swimming in the pond!
Clean, spacious, safe and quiet self-catering with a fantastic view of the lake. Well equipped and centrally located in Magoebaskloof.
It was the perfect weekend away with my husband. Greatly relax and rest. The view is so beautiful and the farm is so peaceful and clean. The fresh air was wonderful. Will definitely go again.
During the rainy season, the route from the main road can become a bit difficult for people who drive cars, but with a pickup truck you are okay.
We were pleasantly surprised and got much more than we expected for the price.
We had a lovely cozy time in front of the fireplace. No problems, everything was arranged and obvious. Thank you!
Enjoyed it very much, for an outdoor person it is the ideal place, jogging, cycling, fishing, swimming and just taking in the tranquility. The 4 bedroom accommodation is out of the book, typical of being quiet with a nice fireplace for the cold days.
Very cute place in the middle of the green forests. Could go for a nice walk and relax among the trees. Was also quite central to the places we wanted to visit. Unit was well equipped except they did not have ice trays. Maybe something they can leave behind for the future. Other than that we had a very nice stay and would definitely like to return again.
Soothing and calm.
The double storey cabin where we stayed was very nice and warm, the fireplace makes the place very hot. The kitchen had all the necessities to make food. The place is very neat especially the bathrooms.
The accommodation is clean and has everything that is needed. The area is very beautiful.
We had a wonderful experience, would recommend it anytime.
Would recommend for nature lovers. Incredible experience to walk in silence in forests. Everything you need for a comfortable stay.
It was very nice despite the fact that we could not enjoy the area because of the rain.
Peaceful and quiet, the perfect place for rest! The cottages were "cozy" and had everything we needed! We will visit again!
Best location, most beautiful surroundings. Furniture needs attention.
Stanford Lodge was a lovely place to break away for a long weekend. There is something to do for everyone. There is bass and trout fishing. A variety of walking routes and kilometers of dietary.
Very comfortable house for a family - lots of space! Electric blankets saved us in the cold evenings. Delicious braai facilities outside and fireplace inside the house.
Spent two very relaxing days here on route to Kruger Park. Location and atmosphere of the Honeymoon unit was something special. Centrally located in Magoebaskloof, as well as close to Haenertsburg for dining.
Lots of fun outdoor activities.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Stanford Lake Lodge and will return soon. The directions were not so clear as we were directed to the cabins only and not the cottage where we stayed. We couldn't get hold of owner either for assistance.
Especially the bathroom urgently needs to be upgraded!
2 of the bedrooms had a strong urine smell, which was put off.
What an amazing place. The nature would remind you of paradise. Thank you, Gavin and your team for maintaining the gardens. Wish we could've stayed longer.
We used it as our honeymoon room after our wedding and will definitely go back again to experience nature and peace. Everything was so clean and neat and getting there wasn't a problem. If you need a break for a weekend, this is the place to be.
Wow, what a special place! Me and my wife were impressed with the spacious log house we stayed in. Neat and clean and equipped with all you need to have a relaxed time. Wood and firelighters were available in the house and you just pay for what you use. The views of the lake are breathtaking, so is the rest of the farm. We had a wonderful time there with so much to see and do. Great eateries nearby. The only complaint would be that we couldn't stay longer. Would love to go there again, only longer next time.
See stars.
We really enjoyed our time at Stanford Lake Lodge. The cottage is beautifully located and well equipped with everything you might need. The owner made a special effort to make sure that our stay went without a single hitch.
Thanks so much for the time we had there, we will definitely be back. Thanks so much.
We had a great stay in the 2-bedroom Side Cottage. It's nice and clean and has all the amenities you need. You can enjoy the whole farm for walking, cycling etc.
It's a beautiful spot to relax at or use as a central point to explore the area. The location is such that one can sit quietly on the stoep for long periods of time and gaze far over the area.
If you want silence and rest, this is the place to choose. Very nice environment, good for one's mood. I would love to go there again.
Stanford Lake Lodge is situated close to many sightseeing locations, but still nestled in breathtaking countryside. There is lots to see and do on the farm: beautiful hikes in the indigenous forest, canoeing/fishing on the lake, bird watching or driving/hiking to the waterfall and Ebenezer dam. We really enjoyed our 4 day stay!
Beautiful location with a cozy little cabin. There was a feeling of privacy and tranquility. We really enjoyed the forest walks and picnicking on the jetty. The cabin could use a little maintenance, but other than that we had a wonderful stay!
Stanford Lake has cabins and cottages. The pictures we saw beforehand were of the cabins which were very nice. The cottages are not up to the same standard and not good value for money. We had frequent power outages during the weekend which was inconvenient.
A wonderful breath-taking place between Magoebaskloof's beautiful trees and hills. The cottage is comfortable, cozy and smartly equipped. We will definitely stay here again!
Very beautiful and peaceful, the forest and pond are beautiful and the children really enjoyed it.
Silence and peacefulness are the beauty of the dense forests. The cycle routes are pleasant with enough variety of facets. A must for anyone wanting to get out of the city.
Very nice and convenient cabin. Breathtaking views and natural beauty. Will go again any time.
The ideal destination for a secluded, quiet weekend where nothing and no one will bother you. The house has an incredible atmosphere, and one of the outstanding features is that it is wonderfully equipped, nothing has been neglected. It may be recommended to recharge the batteries.
Wonderful, quiet little place where you can rediscover yourself! I really enjoyed Stanford Lake Lodge, clean and well prepared for the cold nights.
Love the place, best value for money and for you to switch off.
Stanford Lake Lodge exceeded all my expectations! The cabin has everything you can think of for a peaceful weekend away from the big city. You really just need to bring food. The hiking trails are amazing and you lose yourself in the breathtaking natural surrounds around every corner, beyond every hill.
The owner's communication is very open and one does not have to wonder about what's going on. Very beautiful and nice farm with a peaceful atmosphere. Specifically the Honeymoon Cabin is a beautiful spot with a gorgeous view of Stanford Lake. Definitely worth it! Very neat and clean accommodation with all the necessary accessories.
Stanford Lake Lodge is easy to find and close to Haenertsburg and all the wedding venues. Very neat and clean. A good rest.
For those who love a lot of water and long walks and bike trails through native and pine forests combined with the beautiful Ebenezer dam shores, Stanford Lake farm is number one. And the four-bedroom cottage is very spacious and comfortable.
Place with an excellent view, provided you don't live in a one-bedroom unit.
A place to find peace and switch off.
The warning of load shedding in advance also helped a lot. Peaceful and wonderful in nature. The fireplace created a wonderful atmosphere every night.
The house is basically equipped, not luxurious, but what we needed was available. The bathrooms both had a bath and one shower which was lovely for us. On the farm there is a nice place to walk and beautiful azaleas and trees. Because we wanted to visit Cheerio gardens it was conveniently close and places to eat too. Gavin was very friendly and we enjoyed his sister's "growth center".
Stanford Lake Lodge is superbly located close to everything yet far enough to be private, close to all key points of the area and very well situated amongst the plantations and ponds offering fresh air and breathtaking views as far as the eye can see. Definitely a place I will visit again.
Beautiful surroundings. Safe and quiet. Clean and tidy. Restful.
I stayed in one of the cottages for two nights and found it very comfortable. It is conveniently close to Haenertsburg and attractions.
No criticism as it was an amazing experience and such a comfortable experience with everything just falling into place from the moment the booking was made.
Nice place to stay, with all amenities (even if the power goes out!), beautiful surroundings, nice and quiet, and the most beautiful sunsets!
See the stars below.
Beautiful, with the cutest cottages.
Would have much preferred a cabin, but perhaps next time.
The double bed mattress needs an "upgrade".
The Lodge is beautiful and excellently equipped. Would love to visit again.
The place was very neat, clean and fully equipped. We feel that the standard of the sleeping place could be better (bed very soft). The view is beautiful, and otherwise it was a pleasant experience. Thank you Gavin for your friendly service!
The visit was just wonderful. The area is ideal for a good break, is about 10 minutes from Haenertsburg for the essentials. The cottages are basically just for sleeping, but adequate. The Cycling routes are a fun challenge for the whole family. The hiking trails are a must for anyone visiting Stanford Lake Lodge. It is simply picture perfect! Overall, I really enjoyed the visit! Would definitely suggest it for that break.
Well!
Stanford Lake Lodge radiates South African hospitality. Good value for money. Drive around, walk and swim. There are many beautiful things to discover in the area.
Stanford Lodge is the worst accommodation I have ever booked. The photo on the web page is misleading as the accommodation is not at the log cabin as expected by the guest, but about 2 km from the lake/dam in an old farm house which is divided into several poorly equipped residential units. There is no air conditioner, braai facilities or a swimming pool. The unit assigned to me has no view. When asked, I was told to "go swimming if I wanted to swim" in the lake/pond. However, the lake/pond is inaccessible because the banks are overgrown with reeds. The accommodation was of such a poor nature that within half an hour of my arrival I decided to pack up and look for alternative accommodation. Fortunately, I was able to find accommodation for me and my family. Of course I forfeited my 50% deposit which I had to pay in advance and in good faith but still I was threatened by a most incompetent owner/manager of Stanford Lake Lodge that he would see me in small claims court after I told him felt that the accommodation he offered was not acceptable and that I would rather look for other accommodation. I would strongly discourage any prospective visitor from booking at Stanford Lake!
The scenery is amazing and the accommodation was impeccably clean and tidy. We will definitely go there again.
We will definitely visit the lodge again.
Very nice view. Thank you very much for a very nice weekend!
Better than I had imagined. Definitely bringing the rest of our friends who will enjoy the atmosphere. Thank you for excluding city luxuries!
Great little cottage with good facilities. I was pleasantly surprised to have the cottage serviced and receive firewood during the stay.
Stanford Lake Lodge is the best getaway place. If you love nature and a peaceful holiday, it's the place to be.
All in all we've had a good time. My only negative remark is the lack of clear indications of where one should turn off the main road to the lodge. I was almost involved in an accident as other motorists did not understand my need for driving slowly in the dark as I was scanning the area for the turnoff point to the lodge. I'd recommend a big sign, perhaps even lit up at night to make it easy to find. A pity there's not a 1-bedroom facility overlooking one of the dams.
