Very friendly owners and they couldn't say enough that they were immediately available if we needed them. The place basically has everything guests need for a wonderful visit. The place is very centrally located with many attractions nearby. Safety is not an issue either.
Oude Stal is a cosy, clean house with a well-equipped kitchen. The gas stove works well, especially during load shedding. We were kindly received and felt very welcome. There is a nice hiking opportunity and the rock art is special. We can really recommend this accommodation!
What an incredible experience! We enjoyed it very much! The farm is beautiful! Oude Stal is a nicely maintained house, with everything you need. The fireplace kept us nice and warm. Beds were great and we slept well. The road must be tackled with a large vehicle. The snow turned the world into a fairy tale!
The silence, the clean air, the stunning scenery made this a fantastic stay. The rock art is a must see. We were all sad to go.

The people are friendly and very helpful, there are nice walking trails on the farm and the cottage was very tidy with good quality bedding and a nice and well equipped kitchen, in every direction you look it is picturesque, and the silence is charming. Would definitely recommend it.
The Buitendags are incredibly hospitable and their farm is very special. We feel privileged to have been able to experience it! Fly fishing in clear streams, nature, hiking, fireplaces - everything you could hope for. Thank you!
If you want to hang out in Rhodes area, then you want to go there. The road there can be a challenge at times, but it remains worth it. The accommodation was comfortable, clean and had everything we needed. The nature is picturesque.
We had a very nice stay. Children really enjoyed the freedom and could walk around and play near our little house on their own. We were able to switch off and have family time in front of the cozy fireplace. Would definitely want to go again.

We had a lovely stay in Rock Retreat at Steepside. The cottage has been beautifully restored. It's neat, clean and well equipped. Tranquility in abundance and beautiful view from the veranda. We would love to come again.

We enjoyed our stay incredibly much. Karin's hospitality is something that unfortunately is no longer common. The house is excellently equipped and there is plenty to do and also see. The dirt road is not the best, but that's part of the experience. We will definitely go there again.
The Oudestal where we stayed was incredibly comfortable. With a beautiful view of the farm. The house is comfortably furnished with everything and more that one needs. Each room has its own bathroom. Each room has heating and electric blankets. Everything is very clean and tidy. The domestic animals came to visit us at the cottage. It was precious. We will go back.
The ROCK cottage is the original farmhouse that has been restored. It's beautiful and well maintained. The kitchen has all basic equipment and everything is in good condition. The trip to the Khoisan rock art is worth it! Firewood was provided and the farmer's wife gave us fresh milk.

The road to the guesthouse was very bad. The old house is clean, but the garden and grass are not taken care of. However, beds are of top quality. The house smells like cat pee. The braai area is very nice and comfortable. There are very few lights and some don't work either.
Rock Retreat Cottage was spotless and has everything you need for one night or a month's stay - the indoor braai will work especially well in the winters!

It's definitely not just driving there fast, but the road was part of the excitement for us! It's really beautiful. Karen has decorated the cottage beautifully. Nice electric sheets, fireplace and full kitchen. Walking around is a must! If visitors could take wood with them, it would help, because it's clearly a rare commodity! We had a lovely stay and would definitely recommend Steepside.
Upon arrival our house was greeted with the smell of warm food that we pre-ordered. Had a wonderful time around the fireplace. Had a cosy and warm rest and woke up with the world covered in snow. Picture perfect view.

We were absolutely enchanted by the beautiful surroundings, the friendliness of our hosts and the wonderful atmosphere of the Oudestal Kothuis by Steepside. The Karins have thought of absolutely everything and spared no effort to make the cottage as comfortable and beautiful as possible. The accommodation is very well equipped and cozy with a lovely fireplace and braai facilities on the covered patio. The surroundings are breathtakingly beautiful and there are so many things to do that one doesn't even miss the TV. We had a wonderful rest and will definitely return again. People just need to note that these are dirt roads that are not really suitable for motor vehicles.
Our little old three bedroom unit was situated in the most beautiful country side, with mountains, valleys and streams to enjoy. The unit is very tastefully decorated and has all of the amenities one would need. It was very clean and the bedding was fresh. Steepside offers the weary traveller peace and quiet, you are left to enjoy the magnificent surroundings without disturbance, it's a lovely retreat from the city and the owners are very attentive.
Upon our arrival we were upgraded to Oude Huis as our house was not yet ready. What a beautiful and quaint place with character and taste. We had a really nice stay and really enjoyed the hospitality of Carin and Kobus. Wonderful farm to walk a bit, climb a mountain and sit in front of the fireplace and forget about the city. It's about an hour and 20 minutes drive to Tiffendell and well worth experiencing. We will definitely visit again in the future.
