The owner, David Hood, was helpful and offered us an alternative to the room booked as it had a bigger bathroom. There is a communal kitchen, but it is sparsely equipped and we elected not to cook there. (Not that there is any great choice of eateries in Tarkastad!) We got the impression that the Hoods are starting out on this venture and may still be learning the ropes. We only saw David when we arrived (and when he brought us a broom to sweep out the room). There were some thoughtful touches (rusks & milk at the coffee station & chocolates on the pillow), and the bed was very comfortable, but the room was quite spartan. The establishment is right opposite the co-op in town and, at times, quite noisy. I don't think we would return.
The room is wonderfully large and has all the facilities needed, Dave and his family are extremely friendly and helpful.
The owners are friendly and helpful. What can be said against the accommodation in my opinion is the condition of the town itself. The lack lies at the door of the municipality. The place is unsightly and appears unsafe for a visitor, both during the day and at night.

We were spoiled with biscuits, soft drinks and later even apricots from their garden. We stayed there for 6 nights and the spacious room and bathroom were very nice to have.

Tarkastad on its own does not offer much and this was our first visit to Tarkastad. We were there for a wedding! We were pleasantly surprised with the very nice accommodation and friendly people! Room was very neat and breakfast delicious!
Rooms and beds clean, comfortable and warm. Dining room a very handy eating place with all that is necessary. Rondavel shower needs attention and tree branches on roof should be cut off to avoid noise from the wind at night.
