The cosy cottage is furnished with a double bed and has an en-suite bathroom with a bath and a shower. The unit is also equipped with a wall heater, a small fridge, as well as a TV.
Private braai facilities are provided, and parking is available on the property.
Stargazing events are hosted by Jurg between 20:00 and 22:00 almost every night, but booking is essential. A short lecture is given, after which Jurg takes guests to the 6 x 11-inch telescopes. Visitors can also take a tour of the Dutch Reformed Church, the NP van Wyk Louw Museum, visit the observatory house to view the largest telescope in the Southern Hemisphere, or drive the scenic Ouberg Pass. There are also fossil exhibits and hiking trails.

40 guests' feedbackSterland Annex is perfect for an overnight stay. The space is very compact, but excellent value for money.
The owner upgraded our accommodation. We really enjoyed the stargazing and also the trip to SALT.
Perfect for our purposes, within walking distance to the hotel for supper, and the planetarium.
It was a comfortable stay.
I travelled for snow and got it! Unfortunately, there was no power in Sutherland but enough blankets, candles and a gas bottle came in very handy to stay warm. The Annex is small and cosy. It has everything that’s needed and a nice comfy bed which mostly fills the space. There was a lot of rain on my visit so couldn’t use the braai, which could benefit from a roof to feel more spacious.
Room was comfortable, neat and quite clean. Bathroom was comfortable and water nice and warm. This is a self-catering unit, but the kitchen space is insufficient. There is no work surface or table, and only cold water is available. Meals should be consumed while standing.
We had a nice stay. It's very small, but has everything you need if you're not going to cook yourself.
My stay was good, I enjoyed the quietness.
No. Uninspiring. Crowded and claustrophobic.
Space a bit limited, but would recommend to anyone.
It was our very first time in Sutherland. Unfortunately we couldn't stargaze because it was cloudy, but we can't order the weather, so we will definitely go again.
Everything was clean and tidy, inside and out. The places were comfortable and spacious enough. The view outside was special to see the sunset. Very satisfied.
Beautiful eclectic place with loads of potential. Unfortunately, it seems a bit neglected. Coffee station was sparse. Horrible half containers of soap in the bathroom. With a little effort this would be a 5 star place.
Jurg was very friendly and explained to us how to enter the annex. He also immediately gave us the information for the stargazing. It was awesome. Unfortunately we didn't have enough time to do a tour of SALT.
The overall experience in Sutherland was very good. I would definitely recommend it.
The unit is fully equipped and neat, clean, quiet environment.
Very small, yet everything is there. Very quiet and peaceful. Not the cleanest.
Sterland even reminds you to fill the kettle because water may freeze in pipes. Heaters were on. Special effort with finer detail. Everything was perfect.
A wonderful visit in the beautiful Skrywershuisie with Karoo hospitality at its best.
Neat, clean, everything you need for one night. We made use of the braai facilities, the scrambling wall at the braai was a winner, because the wind was blowing terribly.
Relax in a small overnight accommodation that has the most essential items in it. Good location and nice stargazing with Jurg. We can definitely recommend this as good value for money!
The booking and checking in was easy and pleasant. And the accommodation, Annex, was small but neat and well equipped.
The accommodation has everything you need, but is quite cramped. Apart from the bathroom, there is very little kitchen and moving space. Everything was nice, clean and tidy, nice shower and bath. We didn't get a good night's rest, because the bed was quite uncomfortable and you could hear something that sounded like running water all the time. We could not identify the origin of the sound at all.
Sterland Annex is very small, and certainly not suited for more than two people. We were satisfied with the accommodation though!
The room is small, no space to move and no table to prepare your food on.
The double bed needs replacing and the kitchenette facilities are severely limited.
Sterland Annex is a very small house and it is very full, I would recommend that some of the chairs be removed. Likewise, the fan is redundant in winter in Sutherland. And it was strange to us that we have to wash the dishes otherwise we are fined R 200, is that not why accommodation is cleaned and serviced after a person's stay. Otherwise very comfortable, with welcome electric blanket, hot water bags etc.
Quiet and peaceful and private.
Room was nice and everything was clean. The bed needs a new mattress for sure. It's rock hard and full of lumps. Furthermore, the room is very small with everything in it. Another plus was the heaters that kept the room nice and warm.
Jurg received us kindly and we really enjoyed his stargazing presentation. I can recommend the information file about Sutherland's history and its people if you want to explore the town. It's compiled by Jurg and available in the house. Feel free to eat at the White House Inn, the mutton curry with pasta, as well as the breakfast was delicious and the staff very friendly.
If you want to relax, this is the place.
We were welcomed by Jurg and he spoiled us by turning on the heaters. It is small but convenient and the breakfast at the "White house" was delicious. For us pensioners who went stargazing, it was like a second "Honeymoon".
Safe parking and nice braai that we used. The coffee and tea was also very convenient. Thanks for the heaters and the electric blankets. The breakfast at The Whitehouse Inn (included in accommodation at Sterland Annex) was delicious. For one night, this unit is perfect.
The stargazing with Jurg was breathtaking, do not miss it!
The room was comfortable and quiet. There were enough blankets for the cold night and the water was warm!
We would definitely use Sterland Annex again.
Room was well equipped against the cold, although not roomy enough. Nice and clean. Thanks.
Nice stay and nice village with friendly people.
