Steynshoop Valley Lodge is a luxury, child friendly, self-catering lodge, beautifully situated on an elevated site in the scenic Magaliesberg valley, near Hekpoort. It has superb views of the magnificent mountain range and of the valley. This unique lodge, an hour's drive from Johannesburg and Pretoria, falls within a world heritage site.
There is an attractive homestead and a surrounding quadrangle of buildings which includes a walled kitchen garden and an antique Cape-style fowl run. The homestead has several large, safety fenced, adjoining water features and the overall ambience is of an early Transvaal farmstead, in keeping with the history of the estate. The homestead has 5 bedrooms all en-suite. The 5 adjoining cottage units each has one bedroom. 3 of the units have additional daybeds for children.
There are numerous sporting and recreation such as an all-weather floodlit tennis court, an "infinity", safety fenced, swimming pool and a full-size billiard room. Additionally there are volleyball, badminton and croquet facilities. There is a sports and entertainment area with an additional swimming pool, braai facilities and 3 thatched gazebos with large tables, benches and chairs.
It is ideal for individual and small group getaways, conferences and retreats, with a natural, peaceful and refreshing ambience.
The estate includes a 50-acre forest and borders the proclaimed Magaliesberg Nature Reserve, which has abundant natural bush and game.
The immediately adjoining Steynshoop Mountain Lodge, which is under common ownership with Steynshoop Valley Lodge, includes a portion of the Nature Reserve and has almost a kilometre of the mountain range above Steynshoop Valley Lodge. It has extensive wild game, thousands of natural protea trees and large areas of indegenous forest with magnificent trees and walks..
Guests at Steynshoop Valley Lodge may hike on the trail at the Mountain Lodge. By prior arrangement and accompanied by a guide from Steynshoop Mountain Lodge, they may take longer hikes over the adjoining extensive properties owned by the Mountain Club of South Africa, which include famous sites such as Castle Gorge, where there is a perennial waterfall.
Bird life is extensive. There are frequent sightings of eagles and vultures from a nearby cliff colony and guests can hear jackal and hyena cries, baboon barks and other sounds of the surrounding wildlife.
Although Steyshoop Valley Lodge is primarily a self-catering facility, by prior arrangement, chef catering services are available on a per-meal basis or for the duration of your stay.

13 guests' feedbackWe had a really nice sleep over. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We stayed in 5a. Just the following suggestions: 1) The place has nice thick carpets for the winter, but lacks a decent vacuum especially in the bathroom. 2) I would also make the shower head a little lower or put on a different type, although the water pressure is more than enough, the spray becomes very fine for a short person. 3) A bin in the room and a chair for the beautiful mirror cabinet. As I say all the above are suggestions and are no reason not to visit the beautiful place.
Was a long drive from Buffelspoort. Didn't realize it was an hour drive.

The place is beautifully situated between mountain slopes, although it is just a shame that the road is almost impassable and very narrow!
We stayed in the Arbor Cottage. It is near the security gate which makes an awful lot of noise when it opens and closes. Saturday was very bad with visitors coming and going all the time. The unit needs "TLC". Veranda offers no shade. Request for parasol ignored. Hiking trails exist only on paper.
Thank you very much for a wonderful weekend, we enjoyed every moment. The area, people and animals are top class. We will be happy to visit you again!

Me and my husband had the most amazing stay at Steynshoop Valley Lodge. The accommodation was in perfect condition. Thanks to Hanneli and Pieter who made us feel at home. We did one of the hiking trails and enjoyed it very much. We recommend Steynshoop Valley Lodge to everyone who want to have a peaceful and relaxed getaway.

The atmosphere is very peaceful and Steynshoop is very beautiful. My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary here and really enjoyed it. The service is excellent, the food at Steynshoop Mountain Lodge is top notch and we had so much fun walking in the mountain. The perfect place if you want to rest and relax.
Had a great stay and wonderfully relaxed. Staff very helpful and friendly. Meals are of high quality. The dirt road to the resort was not pleasant. Very bad dirt road.
