20 guests' feedbackLovely farmhouse and dog child could go together.
We have now stayed at Stone Cottage 3 times as we find it convenient as an overnighter to and from the Kruger Park from KZN. By travelling this route, we avoid the coal trucks going to Richards Bay. Lovely setting out of town in a safe environment.
What an absolutely amazing place. I wish we could have stayed longer. My kids loved the animals, especially the horses.
Had a great stay at Stone Cottage. Well equipped and close enough to Volksrust if anything is missing. Peaceful farm atmosphere.
Perfect place to get away from it all.
It’s was too short but it was beautiful.
Lovely setting out of town. Lots of character. Interactive host who kept us updated before we arrived.
Karin and her husband are friendly people. Very nice cottage and wonderful scenery around you. She makes an effort with things to keep you busy during load shedding. Will go back again.
Quiet and hospitable, friendly.
Karin is a very caring host and the spacious carport is a definite plus.
My children and I really enjoyed it. Swimming in the mountain stream, horse riding, fresh air, friendly people. Secluded - ideal place to rest.
We were 4 family members vacationing near the Majuba Heritage Site. The 2 bedroom cottage was comfortably furnished in a very safe area with a gas shower and stove and very small gas box, with solar power only for cell phone chargers and lights. Internet access was very limited. There were enough board games to keep us busy during the rainy season. The owner, Karin, stopped by regularly to make sure everything was OK. The picnic down by the river ensured lovely scenery and the appreciation of the rich birdlife. Due to an injury, I couldn't go for a walk as I had planned, but I will definitely go there again.
Had a great time and the children really enjoyed the environment.
Beautiful setting 6 km from main road. However, the fridge was not working, and a replacement gas fridge was ineffective. We had car trouble just before arriving. The owner kindly looked at it, found nothing major wrong and advised us to drive slowly with aircon off, etc. the next day. The wifi had been used by previous guests so we had none and there was no Vodacom signal. We were not happy the next morning when the hosts left, leaving us two sisters, with a risky car and no comms to call for help if needed. He did check the water level again before they left. But it was bad luck for us having car issues and I would advise people to go there.
Returning to Stone Cottage for a second time proved even better than our last visit. As we drove up to the now-familiar farm gate we were greeted by the dogs and Gilbert the farm hand. The cottage inside was as always warm and inviting and the welcome sherry really did warm us up from the inside. Everything was clean and falling into one of the comfy wingback chairs was just what we needed after the long drive. After a lovely cup of coffee, we headed out on a walk with the dogs. There are many interesting birds to see in this beautiful area. Cutting through the bush we came across a stream where our doggos had to frolic for a few minutes. We got back to the cottage and snuggled up to a lovely log fire. (The rain and mist had moved in.) Supper cooked on the impressive gas stove was good and a hot shower ushered us to cosy beds. Listening to the quiet sounds of the evening was far better than anything social media could offer. The following morning my son and husband took a short hike up one of the hills while I relaxed on the window seat with a good book. Every now and again I would pause to look at the horses outside the window. This is a beautiful working farm owned by Robin and Karin. They are down-to-earth hosts with so much valuable knowledge of the area. This little cottage feels like home. It's comfortable, cosy and warm. It is a happy place. If you are looking for a country break, this is the place to go. We will definitely become regular visitors. Thank you Karin and Robin for a lovely weekend. That gas oven makes a delicious roast chicken by the way. Lots of love.
Stone Cottage is an absolute treasure. Nestled amongst the blue gums and surrounded by the mountains. One feels as if you have time travelled to another time. The cottage has a wonderfully lived-in feel and it felt like home. Waking up to horses and mountain views was magic. Karin was an angel. She made us feel very welcome and so did Badger, the delightful Jack Russel with the big heart. We will be back. How can we not? It's nice to know that unpretentious places still exist.
Karin the owner of Stone Cottage herself has good experience in the hospitality industry and she easily makes you feel at home. It is also at the foot of Majuba and a stone's throw from the festival grounds. I will definitely go again next year.
Not far from town, yet in the mountains. No cell phone signal. Our weekend was a wet weekend which meant we couldn't do much, but there was a fireplace and games and good company. Would love to go again on a dry weekend to explore the area.
Very rich history in the area. Nice stay. Take you back to a time period you only read about in books. Very hospitable owners and a fantastic atmosphere. The scenery is out of a fairy tale.
Super hostess, very clean and tidy cottage. The taps for the shower ragged high for our "shorties". Will definitely return for longer.
