The setting of this cottage is 5 star. You can sit on the stoep or under the milk wood trees and watch the rich bird life, the boats passing by, the tides coming in and out, see the beautiful sunset or the Blue Cranes flying in at dusk coming to sleep on the river banks for the night. You can have a lovely braai (maybe your catch of the day) under the milkwood trees as the sun sets.
Accommodation comprises 2 double beds (one in the main bedroom and one in the lounge), a double bunk bed (in the smaller second bedroom) and a bathroom fitted with a shower, toilet and a basin. The kitchen is equipped with a fridge, microwave, stove and oven. Please note that there is no television. A lovely stove fireplace will warm up your winter evenings and add to the cosy atmosphere.
Guests do not have access to shops, only a small farm shop for the basics. Please note that the last hour is a gravel road from Swellendam or Bredasdorp. Usually, it is in a good condition but sometimes it can be quite rough. No 4x4 is needed though.
Also just take note that there is no municipal services in this area so guests are requested to remove their own garbage bags to a rubbish dump about 2 km from the cottage. Guests should bring their own linen and towels, only duvet inners and pillow inners are provided.
The Breede River Lodge, famous for its seafood dishes is right across the river, or guests can visit the very popular Bush Pub about 15 km up the river. Strandlopertjies is about 40 minutes from the De Hoop Nature Reserve, famous for its bird life. The last pontoon in our country is 20 minutes away in the picturesque Malgas.
Bait can be pumped during low tide and fish can be caught with the incoming tide, right in front of the cottage. A boat can also be anchored in the river (where it is seen from the house) for the duration of your stay.
The mouth of the Breede River is also seen as one of the 10 best kitesurfing spots in the world. Also great for sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, fishing, fly fishing, hiking, swimming and snorkeling at the sea. It is paradise for children, providing safe swimming right in front of the cottage.
If you are someone who likes to stay indoors and concentrate on luxuries around you, if you love shops and malls, is a party animal who loves loud music and noise, this is not the place for you.
If you are a nature lover and an outdoor person, if you love quiet and peace, this will be paradise for you!

27 guests' feedbackWe had a lovely time, the weather was amazing, and the owners are very friendly and welcoming.
We loved our stay and the cottage is even better than the photos. It had everything you needed. A short walk to the estuary and then you get to live life according to the tides. Absolutely loved it. Infanta is a rare place.
The stay was very nice.
It's like driving into a forgotten corner of the Cape with stunning river views and peace and quiet. The cottage has all you need, we kept the fireplace going at night to warm the place up and that just added to the whole atmosphere of a romantic getaway. Even the friendly chocolate labrador came to say hi in the mornings. Simply awesome and highly recommended. As a tour operator, I felt like a tourist re-discovering the area, from the barge across the river in Malagas to the "Bent Head" pub and Mark's friendly hospitality. See you again soon Stella and Kobus!
The owners received us and were very hospitable. The accommodation is very clean and well laid out to accommodate 6 people. You are walking distance from the river and the beach is 3 km away if you walk. You can drive a little way back on the dirt road and get the best Pizza. There are also other eateries and bars in the area. We will definitely visit there again after a very lovely weekend.
Very beautiful place. Lovely host. Close to the water. Nice hot showers. Felt safe and it is a great location.
The river is a very special place to be, so much to do, we love to fish, collect bait, pansy shells and walk along the banks, a boat is a bonus but not necessary! The sunsets are exceptional and just the peace quite revives the soul! We would have like to have Wifi next time!
Great walks during low tide and fabulous views. The water is not drinkable so I do recommend taking lots of drinking water with.
The cottage is beautifully decorated and very clean with all appliances in working order. Conveniently located and only a few steps to the river. Will definitely be back.
Comfortable and cosy with all amenities one might need for a relaxing break away! We will definitely be back again!
The cottage is situated in the most beautiful setting, and the hosts Stella and Kobus were warm and welcoming. We were sad to leave, and will definitely be back.
Best for short period 4 - 5 days, as long as everyone knows that you have to take all provisions with you, it's no problem.
Will definitely go again. Kids really enjoyed it with no TV, which means more family time. Couldn't get used to the salt water showers, but I understand why. The owners were very friendly and we felt very much at home.
Peaceful stay, very safe. You don't even have to lock the house.
3 nights at Strandlopertjies Cottage at Infanta. Against the Breede River. Beautiful beach and ideal for fishing and beach activities. Peaceful and quiet out of season.
This is not a case of what you see, is what you get! I have a huge problem with establishments not giving a true reflection of what they offer the guest. The photos on the website are old and it looks very different when you arrive. It is obvious that the changes made by the owner took place a long time ago, since the current curtains are filthy, but are not the same as on the website. Although the purpose of the holiday is not to watch TV, the photos show a TV and therefore you expect to find a TV. You receive an email from the owner stating this only once you have booked and paid your deposit. Everything is slightly sticky, and at the high cost of the accommodation, you are expected to remove your rubbish at the end of your stay. This I found very unpleasant, since the very small bin that is supplied, was not smelling all that good after 4 days and was already extremely dirty on our arrival. The plug in the kitchen sink does not work, so you cannot fill the basin to wash your dishes and need to do so under a running tap in a water scarce area. To the credit of the owner, she did phone to ask how our stay was, but since I was in a happy holiday mood, and had guests with me at the time, I did not feel to discuss the negative feeling I had about her accommodation at that stage. The biggest problem with the accommodation offered, is that it is portrayed completely different on the website than what you actually receive. There is also no indication that the accommodation offered is right next to the main house and any person staying there will have a huge impact on your privacy in the small cottage next to the main house. We have often visited the area and have really enjoyed our stay, but this accommodation was very disappointing.
Accommodation is peaceful and quiet, but the road at the accommodation is impassable.
We had such a great weekend. You'll definitely see us again!
We would highly recommend Strandlopertjie Cottage to all our friends and family members! Will definitely go back to this paradise on earth!
I already suggested Strandlopertjies Cottage to a friend. Very peaceful, beautiful views and the cottage has everything you need. Very safe for children. Even the gravel road (which was in a fair condition) from the N2 to your destination is worth it once you reach your destination.
We had a wonderful stay with our two young children. Having a cottage on the beach is a wondeful find for our kids who spent hours playing in the sand, boating in the shallow waters, walking, swinging, sliding and climbing in the play area as well as visting Cape Infanta and beaching and walking there. We could have happily stayed for a month!
We had a great stay here, ideal for fishermen!
Close to nature.
If you're looking for a break from the hustle and bustle of the city, this is the right place to find peace and quiet. You have the beauty of the river and the sea together. We had a great time relaxing. There is no shop nearby and therefore you have to plan carefully what you take with you.
A beautiful spot to be. Small suggestion: A small reference book on the surroundings of Infanta, alternative fishing areas, etc. We saw a review from a previous guest which said he'd found a river with a waterfall - which we would have loved to explore, but we didn't know where it was. Definitely worth staying at again though. We will be back.
Strandlopertjies is the perfect place to unwind and put your busy life on hold, with immediate effect. Infanta is on the Breede River, a ten-minute walk from the sea, along a wild, mostly undeveloped stretch of beautiful beach. If you take the shorter route via Witsand, you can avoid the long gravel road to Infanta, by putting your car on the ferry - If you get there before 6pm. Strandlopertjies cottage is delightful in every way, charming and comfortable, and has everything you will need. The minor inconvenience of having to take your own linen dissolves the minute you set foot inside. The hosts are as warm and friendly as the decor and we will definitely return many times over the coming years.
There was no water and we were informed about it after we checked in. No one came to sort out the problem. We couldn't even wash our hands or flush a toilet. I think it should also be mentioned in the accommodation details that you have to bring your own bedding. Although it is a cute little place in the right location with a nice view and right next to the river.
