Originally built in the 1880s, it is one of the oldest buildings in the village and has thick adobe walls, mud floors, reed ceilings, and a thatched roof. The cottage comprises 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a kitchen, and a lounge.
The main bedroom is furnished with a double bed with a large mosquito net draped over the bed, 100% cotton linen, and a memory foam mattress topper, and the room has an en-suite bathroom fitted with a shower and a toilet. The second bedroom has two single beds, and is ideal for children or friends who do not mind sharing the main en-suite or using the outside bathroom which is fitted with a shower.
The open-plan kitchen equipped with a small fridge, a stove, a microwave, as well as tea- and coffee-making facilities, and the lounge area has a cosy fireplace for the winter evenings. Wood-fired, hand-crafted pottery basins and vintage crockery add to the charm of the cottage.
The cottage opens onto a patio overlooking the lush garden which is enclosed and has a hammock to relax in. Braai facilities are available, and undercover parking is available. Pets are welcome with prior arrangement. The cottage is purposefully not equipped with Wi-Fi and other technology to provide a digital retreat.
McGregor is a quaint, beautiful, tranquil Karoo town with stunning views. There are some excellent restaurants and a beautiful retreat centre to visit.

One awesome stay. Tranquility at its best, away from the busy city life. The little cottage is cute, and we enjoyed the fireplace at night. Shower water was warm. And a comfy bed.
Enjoyed our stay. Sunflower cottage has everything you need.
It was very pleasant.
Very quaint and historic. A little rustic but beautiful garden!
We had a relaxed and comfortable stay in Sunflower Cottage. Loved the garden and historic building. Well-equipped kitchen and lovely outside space too.
We thought the offering based on a historic building was fine. It was clean and had sufficient facilities. Just had to watch your head. The house is understandable, but they may need to do something about the hedge at the garage to yard gate. I scraped my head twice. Otherwise, it was great.
Cottage is lovely. A bit overpriced when compared to our other 3 stays on our trip. Communication from the owner was not good. Ilze, who unlocked for us, was lovely.
Lovely cozy cottage. No bad experiences.
One of my best LekkeSlaap stays, enhanced by the ambience of the town, the rural setting and the friendly people. An absolute privilege to live in an officially recognised, heritage cottage! Loved the low door frames even though I bumped my head many times. It taught me to adopt a stooping statute for the rest of my life!
Nice comfortable stay. Really enjoyed the courtyard and garden. Nice cottage. Bed slightly small for a couple.
Very nice and peaceful stay. Just bring spray for black ants in the kitchen.
If you want to just relax and have a quiet weekend, the Sunflower Cottage is just the place. The garden is lush green and the cottage is just lovely.
The cottage is from the 1800s and is very cute. The only strange thing is that the bathroom has no door to the master bedroom but only a curtain. The rest of the cottage was comfortable and well appointed. The porch with sofa, hammock and beautiful home was the winner for me. I lay in the hammock all day and read books while I could listen to bird sounds. Walking distance to restaurants (try the prego at The Courtyard!). We enjoyed it very much.
Rural, old town atmosphere. Interesting history. Museum, church, gardens remarkable. Friendly people.
The cottage is spotlessly clean with decor that matches the historic building and adds to its old-fashioned charm. We really enjoyed the garden which is nicely fenced as our dog also traveled with us. The lovely porch with its hammock and cozy table as well as the wood stove to heat the living room were also winners. We can definitely recommend Sunflower Cottage.
Attention to detail is top notch. Location was fantastic. Very relaxing and perfect place to reconnect with yourself and the children. Clean and very tidy.
Great old-world charm and very comfortable, with a lovely stoep and everything we needed for a break from the city and technology. It is well kept, clean and tidy, thanks to hosts Evie and Charlotte. We had a lovely time.
Everything about the cottage was awesome except the quality of a few pillows and an issue with opening the key storage unit at entrance. Didn't bring my dog but there is ample space for your beloved pets to wander about. Disappointed to leave after 1 day due to a health issue.
Spent two nights at Sunflower Cottage as a family. It is a National Heritage House. A really lovely looking cottage in a quiet road. Loved hanging out on the stoep out back. Fairy lights and hammock a nice touch. Had everything we needed. Linen was clean. Has an alarm system. Beds were comfortable. There were a few little issues, but have addressed these with the owner and she has noted them. Some really good restaurants in the area. Highlight of our stay was the Donkey Sanctuary.
The cottage is exactly what we needed. However, the wonderful large veranda is unbearably hot during the day due to the translucent roof sheets. The cottage was really cool inside. Thank you so much - will pop in again!
Lovely cottage, spotless and tidy and well equipped. Located in a quiet area of town. The large porch and garden at the back are heavenly. I would love to come again, and stay longer!
Ons kon nie vir 'n meer perfekte kothuisie gevra het om die vrede en rustigheid van die spesiale dorpie te geniet nie. Net 'n wonderlike ervaring oor die algemeen.
The fact that the Cottage was dog friendly added to our pleasant visit. The whole place is fenced so we could sit back and relax.
Beautiful, rustic, charming and peaceful. Waking up with the birds chirping. Exactly what we needed to recharge our batteries. Will definitely recommend it.
Beautiful, well furnished, clean and tidy. Attention to small things like plasters, mosquito cream (oh yes, there are mosquitoes!).
The cottage was beautiful. The bed and bedding very nicely made! Everything was beautifully clean and kitchen well equipped. Evie was a bundle of sunshine who met us on arrival. Will definitely be back again!
Will definitely do it again. Thoroughly enjoyed the stay and surroundings.
We loved our time at SunFlower cottage! The neighbourhood is quiet and safe.
Special atmosphere, beautifully restored - modern-antique. Tranquility of the beautiful garden and lovely walks in the back make it wonderful to get away alone or with others. Old building style provides cool shelter in the sweltering heat. Can only imagine how cozy it will be in the winter with the fireplace inside. Will definitely return again and again.
Lovely weekend in the cottage and in McGregor - very nice small town with friendly community, good food, and lots of things to do. Very nice cottage and garden.
A lovely cottage and garden with all facilities needed for a restful breakaway. Close to shops, art galleries, restaurants.
In summer an air conditioner or at least a fan or two is needed. Also we missed a microwave, even a small cheap one. The little cottage was very clean, neat and tidy. Evie was very friendly and helpful, even waiting for us to arrive after a flat tire. The bed linen was of very good quality. In all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back for more visits. It is the perfect place to go and recharge the batteries.
