20 guests' feedbackAbsolutely incredible! It is difficult to describe the level of hospitality we experienced. We nearly got stuck in the snow and for the last hour of our drive, Lawrence was checking in with us every 15 minutes, seeing if we needed assistance, offering to come fetch us, making sure we were safe. We were redirected to The Cavern, owned by the same family, as Sungubala was inaccessible and spent our time there feeling entirely welcome! I cannot recommend these two properties highly enough. We will definitely be returning to both in the future!
It was perfect in so many ways, just loved it there.
Sungubala is a beautiful, rustic camp in the Drakensberg and our stay was great!
Sungubala is the perfect place for breathtaking scenery, silence and tranquility. If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, if you like hiking or mountain biking, then Sungubala is the perfect place to go. Wonderful staff make you feel right at home. It's quite remote, but absolutely worth it!
Breathtaking nature, beautiful hiking trails and just what is needed to recharge batteries just about on our back porch.
Peace, beauty, elements, amazing walks and activities in the area. Truly a special place with lovely people. Loved every minute, thank you!
Yes, very nice stay. Free bottle of wine received for the error on their system.
Beautiful location, with stunning views, great birding, botanising and walks!
The location is amazing and the service was great but more effort can be put in cleaning the houses especially the bathrooms.
The accommodation was clean and adequate. The staff friendly and helpful and the mountain as always inspiringly beautiful.
The mountain landscape provides a dramatic backdrop to the Sungubala Eco Camp. The camp has very comfortable accommodation with a communal boma that has a self-catering kitchen, braai area and lounge complete with a cosy fireplace. This makes the camp ideal for large groups as the communal area keeps things social yet the separate rooms offer some privacy. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. We had an amazing stay and wished we could have stayed longer.
Nice clean and quiet place. With lovely hiking trails.
Three of us stayed in the twin rondavels and used the shared kitchen and lounge, only we were the only ones staying in the rondavels, so had the place to ourselves. It was quiet and tranquil. We did all the marked walks which were clearly marked and maintained. The scenery was breathtaking and the wildlife abundant. It really was a memorable stay and would thoroughly recommend it to others.
The location is very nice between the mountains, and the rooms have a nice view of the mountains, except the branches and trees before our unit could have been "trimmed" to have a nicer view. I understand it's an Eco camp and environmentally friendly but nowhere did they say you can't blow dry your hair? It's almost winter and very cold on the mountain, so if anyone goes there for a winter, make sure you take enough dry shampoo with you! There is not 1 "plug" in the room to charge your phone, you just have to sit in the kitchen/lounge while your phone charges. On our arrival we also had to wait 5 minutes at reception before a worker came and told us we could just drive to the camp, someone was waiting there for us, where we also had to wait 5 minutes there. The place's maintenance can definitely improve, all the bushes and branches take away the whole view. We had a rondavel, with just the sleeping place and a bathroom. There wasn't even a kettle or small fridge, you have to use the kitchen and fridges together and hope someone doesn't steal your stuff in the fridge. And with such a beautiful view (mind you only on one side of the room's window where no trees or bushes "spoil" your view) one cannot even sit and enjoy a cup of coffee in bed in the morning, unless you walk all the way to the kitchen in the cold, make coffee and walk all the way back to the room. We slept at 1 place on Friday night and at Sungubala Eco Camp on Saturday, there was a price difference of R200 and we were extremely disappointed in what we got for our value for money at Sungubala compared to our place to sleep on Friday night.
What an incredible weekend! Sungubala is so beautiful, the facilities are well maintained, the staff are delightful and the hikes are breath taking. The best weekend getaway I’ve had for awhile. 10/10 would recommend.
No power plug in rooms and lights out at 22.00.
Beautiful view of the mountains, with a clean environment and friendly service.
We had a lovely stay while doing the Run the Berg event. We stayed in the spacious rondavel and even though the unit did not have a kitchen we had an entire fridge to ourselves in one of the communal kitchens. Lovely braai and dining area with everything you could need and breathtaking views all around. We had a great experience.
Very quiet and good. Love the fact that there is only solar and gas. Get away from the technology, but was disappointed by group of people who came to make noise and tried to make our stay unpleasant. The babysitter was under the influence of alcohol.
Poor service, poor value for money.
