Sunset Creek Game Lodge
Sunset Creek Game Lodge
-
Sunset Creek Game Lodge offer three star rated, self-catering, thatched chalets, each with 2 double beds in one big open-plan area opening onto a wooden deck overlooking the Tipperary Spruit. The units are equipped with kitchenettes with everything you will need for self-catering including a 2 plate gas stove, fridge-freezer and microwave. Should we experience load-shedding, we have supplied candles as well as an oil filled lantern making the nights very romantic. You are always welcome to bring your own torches. The dam in front of the chalets has filled up for the first time in 3 years.
From here you can do tours to the Kruger National Park, the panorama tour to Sabie, Pilgrims Rest, Graskop and Gods Window. You can do tours from educational to cultural and visit places such as Moholoholo Rehabilitation Centre, a Shangaan Cultural Village Sudwala Caves or a coffee bean farm.
Enjoy the hospitality of the Lowveld while relaxing and cooling off with a sundowner on the wooden deck at the pool.
Please note that due to the poor rainy season that South Africa has experienced over the past few months, the dam has not filled up in front of the chalets and we are hoping this situation will improve in the new rain season. Unfortunately this is beyond our control.

89 guests' feedbackWe ended up taking advantage of such a beautiful peaceful place. Owner very hospitable always available and friendly. It was nice to walk into an in-laws house every day.
For a lazy break in nature away from the hustle and bustle of the town and traffic noises, the place is definitely the place to recharge batteries!
We had a very nice stay. The birds we saw were exceptional. Wonderfully private. Unit is clean and everything needed was there. I would happily recommend it and would definitely go there again.
It was a lovely, peaceful getaway weekend. The silence and nature were wonderful for the soul. Great for bird watchers! The beautiful braai area and wooden deck were lovely places to visit and chat. Did miss a table to eat at on the wooden deck.
Very relaxing and comforting.
Always stay nice here, sometimes it's hard to lie down in the silence of nature.
A most convenient location to stay after leaving the KNP. The access roads were however not in a good state and very corrugated. A warm welcome on arrival by host Gary. The directions to reach the lodge were not at all clear as the starting point was not clearly defined.
We especially enjoyed the tranquility on the deck. My husband was able to enjoy himself to practice his hobby, photography. No. 4 is private and very nice to stay in. Thanks Gary.
In a nutshell, Sunset Creek is ideal for several reasons: 1. You definitely feel like you are in the bush and wilderness 2. You are close enough to Mbombela to spend a day in the city and 3. You are 45 min 's drive from the Malelane Kruger gate if you want to visit the game park, so I can't ask for more.
Think they can put in boosters for WiFI, old people can't climb those stairs to the lapa, enjoyed overall, cleaners very friendly and helpful, chairs on porch not for old people either, other chairs were brought for us.
Gary and his team really spared no effort to make comfortable nests in paradise, and make them available to other people. It is so quiet and so beautiful in nature by the water, with plenty of animal and bird life to enjoy. The only "setback" - and it's not even Sunset Creek's fault - is the approximately 6km dirt road to get there. A sedan car is not tall enough to handle the ditches and loose stones. But about the service and accommodation itself, we have no complaints - it was awesome!
Suggest that they put up a temporary partition at the braai area for guests with dogs to be able to move freely.
Had the most relaxing stay, waking up to the peaceful, calm sounds of nature. Everyone very welcoming and friendly. Would gladly go back any day!
Quiet aside. Perfect for people looking for silence in nature. Located on the river/dam. Beautiful nature. A festival for bird watchers. Forest naps are beautiful. Was lovely to sit and watch the most beautiful different types of anglers dive down and catch fish. Njalas came to drink water late afternoon.
We had a great short weekend with the rest of the ladies. A beautiful place nicely situated in the mountains and it's peaceful and quiet, clean and well-equipped with self-catering units, enough parking space, friendly staff and a secure entrance. Everything was on point. We really appreciate the friendly welcome. Hope to visit the place again because the 2 nights we had weren’t enough.
Nature is breathtaking. From the time we got there to the time we drove off, every second was worth it. It's nice and quiet and you can really enjoy the scenery and surroundings.
The environment is beautiful. Accommodation is basic but neat and clean.
Sunset Creek Game Lodge is perfectly located to just relax and enjoy the silence or to drive quickly into Nelspruit to enjoy city life as well as wildlife park visits. I find it ideal for a weekend getaway as well as a good holiday.
Beautiful place with excellent service. Mr Coetzee went out of his way to make sure we reached our destination, after we initially got lost. I would suggest perhaps separating the beds with a partition to provide some privacy. And then, please, also provide some coffee, tea, milk, and sugar for at least 4 guests in the chalets for the first evening and morning. Especially so during the winter, when you would like to await the sunrise over the water with a nice cup of warm comfort, and you were not aware that it would not be available at all upon your arrival. Usually at most other guest houses or lodges it is provided complimentary in the rooms or chalets. But despite the little fox, I really would book there again anytime.
They are beautifully equipped with everything one could need and more. It is so clean and tidy and quiet. The dog kids who came to visit us were heavenly and the overall atmosphere was fantastic.
On our departure from Pretoria on Friday afternoon, we tried to get hold of the owner on two of his contact numbers as provided to us. We couldn't get hold of him for our entire 4 hour drive to Sunset Creek. Upon our arrival late Friday evening, when we got to the entrance gate we had to enter a code that was not shared with us beforehand and since we could not get hold of the owner we were unable to obtain this type of information. Also no bell so that someone can come and help us. No cell phone signal in the area so we then had to turn back on the dirt road at night to look for a cell phone signal to try and get hold of the owner again as these were the only numbers we had and how do you do otherwise? After the help of the neighborhood watch who was patrolling the area, we were able to obtain the gate code and finally got inside the premises, but were received by cleaning staff, no owner insight. Then we just had to settle for Chalet 2 for no reason after I booked Chalet 1. So we are in Chalet 2 and unpacking. It wasn't until the next morning, when I signaled to another place where we had driven out, that I received a message from the owner saying they were in the wildlife park for the weekend. I think it is important to make sure someone is available all the time if you know you are expecting a lodge full of guests at the weekend. Many electrical problems have been noticed in this chalet, power trips when you boil the kettle and bedside lamp switches do not work well. Soap dish in the shower also hangs from one screw. General impression and service was definitely not that of a 3-star game lodge. The place has a lot of potential but needs more attention and involvement.
I loved it a lot. Nice private place, definitely I'll come back with better car, right for the road. We enjoyed it and I was happy nobody had to use phones. We had a quality time. Thanks a lot.
What a stunning place. Upon leaving on Sunday morning our car broke down about 1 km away from the resort. It totally shut down! No electronics would work. My husband walked back to the resort and not only did they try help fix the car they took myself and my 2 children back to the resort so we didn't have to sit in the side of the road. We had the car towed and had to stay another night. They even went above and beyond and lent us the resort vehicle to go to town to get food and supplies as we could not get anything out the boot. You guys were a real blessing. We highly recommend this resort!
Sunset Creek Game Lodge is both value for money and yet luxurious enough for a great family wildlife getaway. The units have everything you need for self-catering and the enjoyment of nature on your doorstep. This is the second time we have used the lodge and I will definitely recommend it to all my friends and family. It's a 40-minute drive to Malelane Kruger Gate if you want to visit the wildlife park. My stay experience has always been pleasant and adequate.
Nice and quiet, real bushveld getaway.
Dit was baie lekker om weer by Sunset Creek oor te slaap. Die enigste probleem was dat ons vir eenheid 1 gevra het, maar was toe in eenheid 3 geplaas.
Beautiful sunset from a hike up the koppie.
The cottages are very well appointed and have everything you need. The large doors that open onto the deck are beautiful and absolutely worth it.
Everything was top notch, no complaints would just suggest that they put a heater in the rooms during winter, otherwise the stay was lovely! They made an effort with our late arrival, which we appreciate.
Had a very nice stay. The place is very neat and clean with all the amenities you need. Just be warned no GSM or WiFi reception in the units. Very nice view and wildlife around you.
Nice for a weekend getaway. About 5 km gravel road and almost no cell reception.
Sunset Creek Game Lodge is located nice and close to Nelspruit if the children want to explore the city, but also nice and close to the Kruger Wildlife Park if you plan to visit the wildlife park. The accommodation is hidden between the hills and cliffs which makes it absolutely wonderful for total seclusion from the noise of the daily activities and that is what we need. The layout of the houses is beautiful and intimate for chatting and just sharing nice stories with each other. The view is a bit limited, but still offers the business of nature and bird life. We will use it again and again.
We locked ourselves in the house on the last night because the neighbours were talking so loudly, making a noise and playing music, that we couldn't even hear each other. No one at the lodge tried to silence them. We didn't get the silence we wanted.
It was delicious, would definitely recommend it.
We really enjoyed the 1 night we stayed over. It is a peaceful atmosphere and beautiful view and the unit was very neat. The shower was a bit of an annoyance with the water pressure being weak. We also felt very safe and that's a bonus.
Stay was very comfortable with everything you need! Picture from your room over pond, woods and mountains - beautiful. Staff, Nomsa incredibly friendly and helpful. Cleanliness and comfort great. Tranquility of place, and dog friends exceeded all expectations.
Nice, quiet, and restful.
We as a family had a wonderful and restful stay at Sunset Creek. We will definitely stay there again and even longer.
We had a great stay and our Maltese was just as at home. Friendly and helpful service from staff even though it was over Christmas days. Saw fireflies in the evening which I last saw as a child. Would stay there again anytime.
Very nice place to just relax with family.
We arrived there and the staff helped us immediately with our costs and the wood. The cottage is beautiful inside and clean. We struggled with the hot water tap, but I will definitely go there again next year.
Will recommend to people who want to relax with a good view and that also love fishing.
A bit far from Gauteng, road busy.
We as a family booked 2 units for 2 nights and ended up staying an extra night because it was so nice. Very special. Will stay there again.
See the ratings.
The booking of our accommodation and the correspondence were exceptionally simple with the help and friendly skills of the helpful website. The accurate directions and location of Sunset Creek are very easy to reach, amidst the unbelievable mountainous topography and luscious, clean nature that surrounds you and isolates you from the outside world, just like we like it. I'd definitely make us of the first opportunity I get to break away to Sunset Creek and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to escape from the everyday hustle and bustle for a well-deserved break. Thank you for a pleasant stay.
They can concentrate a bit on their maintenance and cleaning. The toilet leaks, the hot tap in the bathroom is broken. We had to wash the pots and pans well before use. The gas stove was only cleaned once in the 4 days. But we had a nice stay and for someone who wants to be away from everything and in nature this is the place.
A lot of maintenance needs to be done, the toilet leaked badly and left a very bad smell. There are electrical problems.
When we arrived on Saturday afternoon, the entrance gate was closed (as it should be), but the gate code was not shared with us ahead of time. Cell phone reception is very poor in that area so we had to turn back until we could get reception to call to get the gate code. After the episode we arrived at reception but were met by one of the cleaning staff and requested to follow the gardener who would then take us to the chalet. So done and the person unlocks and disappears. The chalet was involved with a very unpleasant smell, but we open windows and doors and unpack. Sprayed toilet freshener to fight the smell and we just sat outside. With that we also wanted to turn on the TV, but it didn't work. Call reception again and am told that one of the men will be sent as soon as they are back. In the meantime we inspect the sleeping place and find that the sheets are not clean and have dirty spots on them, unfortunately this was the last straw. We pack up, try to hand in the key again, but as before, no one is available and the key is given to the gardener. The places look good overall and the location of the place is not bad. I can see that one can rest well here, but the service leaves much to be desired. If our needs were addressed and if the chalet's smell and linen were better, we would definitely have stayed, but we expect good service.
The place is located between the gorges and is incredibly beautiful. Our jogging routine outside the camp was breathtaking. The cottages are equipped with literally everything you need. We will definitely be visiting again, thank you very much Gary.
What a nice getaway! Was so quiet and peaceful, felt chance again for many after our week at Sunset. Will go back for sure! Gary was very helpful and was very hospitable! The facilities were very clean and Gary and his team thought of everything in the chalets! Was a bit worried about there being no reception, but the WiFi made up for sure and it was nice not to be bothered! 10 out of 10!
We were pleasantly surprised with the chalet, it was neat and beautifully laid out. It also had everything that you can think of, didn't have to take anything along from home. Gary was very friendly and accommodating, the service was great. We will definitely be visiting again soon.
Our stay was top notch. The place is beautiful, well furnished and tidy. If you want it to feel like you are waking up in paradise this is the place for you. The birds and other animal sounds are music to the ears. It's a lovely peaceful break from the city and we'll be going again soon. Many thanks to kind owners and staff.
I really enjoyed it because I am a person who prefers tranquility. A place with a restaurant and bar does not appeal to me, because this is when there is a disturbance of rest and is too busy.
This was the last night of our holiday and I can honestly say the absolute best night. We were pleasantly welcomed by Gary. Nomsa took us to put chalet and she made sure everything was in order. All the staff were friendly. Love the outside fire place and braai area. And the deck is beautiful with an awesome view. We will definitely be visiting Sunset Creek again. Thank you Drico and Nikki.
The dogs visiting our chalet were a treat. They have the best manners and don't come in uninvited and also don't beg for food! There is no WiFi in the room which was a bit of a bother, but it actually forced me to switch off. The rooms were clean and tidy and we enjoyed our stay. It would be nice to see a deer or two by the creek, but it was very dry, so understandable.
Nice place to rest. Children will soon get bored, but there you can rest and relax. Thank you Gary for your hospitality and beautiful place.
Wow, we really enjoyed our time. The chalet was beautiful and neat. Gary and Vanessa made us feel like family. Will recommend the place to anyone if you want to rest. The frog choir every night was an amazing experience.
It was very pleasant, just a pity the river was dry but it still made our stay perfect. Those who want to get away from the city - this is ideal.
Is a very beautiful and peaceful area! Feel part of nature and yet comfortable.
This was my second visit to Sunset Creek Game Lodge, and will go again and again. It's a place where you can properly "unplug". Without cell phone reception and internet, one really has the opportunity to relax and listen to the sounds of nature, rather than social media or city bustle. The staff are friendly and welcoming, without depriving you of your privacy. Definitely one of my favorite getaway spots.
Very nice wooden houses with a lovely porch and everything you need to be comfortable. A little bit of trouble with hot water in the shower, but luckily it was bitterly hot days.
Good service and everything was clean and tidy.
Was lovely, neat and clean thank you.
Beautiful, clean, well equipped unit. Attention was paid to detail to make for a comfortable stay. We spent only one night. Was alone as it was mid week, so felt secluded. The road leading to the units could get some attention, a bit rough for a normal vehicle. We didn't see any wild animals.
We were very welcome and received kindly, the chalet was clean and tidy, it was so nice and peaceful and blissful and had a lot of privacy. I most enjoyed the beautiful large wooden deck that is part of the chalet and overlooks the pond and forest. And every afternoon I stretched myself out on the comfortable couch to read or just listen to all the sounds of nature and look out over the pond. Our chalet was cleaned every day. And in the evening, we city dwellers really amazed us with the night sky with its multitude of shining stars. I could easily hide away from the hustle and bustle of the city for another week.
Wonderful, relaxing atmosphere, well located. Stunning host. Will go back.
Had a great stay, really enjoyed the tranquility. Owner and staff really friendly. Will definitely be back.
See star rating.
Will recommend it and definitely stay there again. Very neat and clean and definitely value for money.
We had a great time there.
Awesome place! I can just imagine what it must look like when the dam is full and when everything is green from the rain ... probably like the Garden of Eden. Will definitely return in summer.
Our stay was really nice and the atmosphere makes you relax.
Very neat, nature did not play along, the river was empty, but still peaceful and very beautiful. The people were very helpful with road directions and incredibly hospitable upon arrival. Their staff is very helpful and hospitable. Would definitely recommend, the road to the Lodge is just very ugly but luckily we drove a van.
The units are very neat and clean. Kitchen is well equipped. Nice patio and boma braai area. Just a pity about the drought, will be a beautiful view when the dam has water in it. We were even lucky enough to spot a giraffe. Friendly reception from the owner and other staff. I can definitely recommend it. Good value for money.
Very neat and well-equipped accommodation with good location between the hills with stunning view. It is quite and tranquil with privacy for a romantic getaway or just to breakaway and enjoy the quiet.
Great, relaxing and enjoyable.
We had a wonderful time at Sunset Creek. The owner and the staff members were very friendly and helpful. The place was clean inside/out. I would request that they have a stove with an oven though.
We were greeted by the dogs on our arrival. Then Gary said hi, very friendly. We were then accompanied to our chalet by Nomsa - she was also very helpful and friendly. The drought is unfortunate but obviously the owners can't do anything about it. River was dry. Despite the drought we had a nice rest. Very good value for money and food for the soul. Was very difficult to leave since my son became very attached to the pets that spent on night with us.
Sunset Creek provides very nice overnight accommodation. Clean, tidy, and friedly staff. Owner made us feel at home.
The units were neat and well equipped and very clean. The location is beautiful and it is really very good value for money. We will definitely recommend Sunset Creek Lodge!
Upon arrival we were welcomed by Nomsa. She informed us that the owner, Gary Coetsee, apologises about the TV that isn't working, and that he didn't have time to replace it with the new TV at reception. I offered to replace it myself, and we watched cricket and the rugby match between SA and Argentina. We were told that the bracket of the TV and wall should be customised (thus, no TV and no discount on outstanding R750). The excuse was that the owner urgently needed to go to Hazyview. Just wondering how long the owner knew about the faulty TV. No good impression of the owner, but the household staff was excellent. Thank you.
Owner was nowhere to be seen. Restaurant was closed. Otherwise very nice, peaceful getaway. The gun shots Saterday and Sunday afternoon was bothersome.
