Most unwelcome reception ever! No effort made with recreation area. Deck by pool area was not specified to be a no access area. We had to sit under a tree all day at a weber barbecue. Chairs uncomfortable. Owner very unfit.
Sunset River Lodge has new owners. Annelize called me ahead of time and let me know that they were working on the unit we booked and that we might get a smaller unit. However, everything was fine when we got there. The unit is beautiful and the beds very comfortable. Annelize and her sons are very helpful.

A nice place to stay for a get away from the city.
We were kindly received and the room was very clean. The whole town was without water and electricity, and the owners made sure to turn on the generator as soon as we got there so we could bathe. I hope the village can solve their electricity problem, I feel sorry for the people there. Even though it was a difficult situation, we still felt the positivity of the owners and we will visit them again.

Probably the nicest place we have ever stayed. We were warmly and kindly welcomed by Wagter, the ridgeback/site manager. The owners were so nice and went the extra mile to make our stay special. We could drink coffee and barbecue under the most beautiful canopy and garden, a favorite for us. The apartment was nicely furnished and one sleeps blissfully with the river's soft murmur in the background. 10 out of 10 for you.
I booked a weekend for my little girl's birthday. We have already made a reservation with Ronel. Ronel, Jolani and hubby never disappoint us. Jolani went out of her way to make an effort for the birthday girl (Ronel visited with a wedding anniversary last time). Very friendly, very clean and just a beautiful piece of heaven just around the corner from us. I would definitely recommend Ronel, and we will keep going back. Thank you very much Ronel and Jolani for your love and the effort you put in to make the visits so enjoyable. Until hubby came by every day to make sure everything was ok. You are a winning team. The chalets have air conditioners but also heaters. Very peaceful in the garden under the trees, next to the fireplace. It is walking distance from the Vaal River with neatly cut grass on the banks. Would love to stay there again.

From our arrival to departure did not meet the hostess. There are too few wall plugs in the kitchen. Had to plug in boiler on floor in front of bathroom door. On arrival, all the cutlery was not in the kitchen and DStv was also out of order. No sink in kitchen. Only 3 glasses etc. for 3 guests. Too few utensils. Idea is to leave all dirty dishes outside to be washed before 9am. What do we do throughout the day to wash it? Shower outlet was clogged. Had to buy drinking water and toilet paper myself ─ too little in unit. Water ran out in unit halfway through the weekend and we couldn't shower or bathe. Owner informed us that this happens frequently. The braai is in the middle of the garden. We politely did not use it, because the owner and his family and friends used it themselves during the weekend. The bucket of water outside our front door was unusable because the dog drank from it. Unfortunately not a nice weekend.
Upon our arrival we find a very neat place for the two of us. Wagter, the dog, who looks after us every night and the cat who often comes to say hello. We love animals! Johan welcomed us, what a pleasant person. Everything was absolutely perfect, with the river just a few meters from the place, coming down after the nice rain. It is the perfect getaway destination in a very quiet environment. Would recommend them anytime for a quiet getaway chance. Thank you.

We were all welcomed in person by our friendly host. Both our spacious cabins were well furnished and extremely clean. We enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend it to anyone with the need to escape from the city.

With easy access so you can come and go as you please, this overnight stay was exactly what we needed as a family. Sunset River lodge has a beautiful garden where you can enjoy a delicious morning coffee in peace. Beurtkrag was announced late, but sufficient provisions were made for us as guests to be able to function normally. We had a wonderful stay in a unit that was very well laid out and very comfortable with my 2 small children. We were pleasantly surprised by extras such as sherry in the room, good coffee and milk in the fridge. Will definitely visit here again. The owners were so friendly and hospitable.
We (4 friends) stayed at Mayfly for 2 nights for a wedding in March and we were warmly received by Ronel's daughter. The accommodation is beautiful, spacious and neatly furnished. Along with the coffee, milk and water, we were even provided with hand sanitizer in the cottage. For working people, there is a large desk. We did experience problems with the air conditioner, but it was quickly sorted. Unfortunately, there is also no sink to wash dishes, but one is provided with a large bowl for the purposes. We would recommend the accommodation to anyone and would stay there again ourselves.
Only problem was the DSTV which sometimes switches off or the image disappears. The host was willing to move us to another unit without delay. The rest of the problems were solved immediately. Thank you. We really enjoyed the stay and would recommend it.

There is no kitchen sink and running water in Mayfly's unit, which makes it uncomfortable. The kitchen is also too sparsely equipped for self-catering.
I arranged with owner Ronel for 11h check-in which she had no problem with. We were late, then arrived at 12 o'clock. She couldn't receive us, which was no problem, but our room wasn't ready by 12 o'clock. A biscuit for the coffee would be nice and also matches for the candles. The hair dryer had no plug to push in.
It was very nice to sit outside under the trees and listen to the sound of the river.
We (me, my husband and my young adult son) stayed in the Mayfly12 room for just one night during the week. Ronel gave good directions on how to book in and Chris received us very kindly and explained everything. It's a beautiful clean, spacious room with 2 lovely big beds and lots of space to sit and move. The kitchen facilities are in a separate room with a particularly beautiful granite table with all the necessary electrical appliances. The bath and shower are separate from the toilet and everything was clean and tidy. We would have loved to stay longer, but will definitely book at Sunset River Lodge again if we visit Paris. It's definitely worth it!

Friendly and warm people and felt like old friends. The rooms are spacious and beautiful. Everything was super neat and clean and the garden and Koipond are beautiful. The river is a stone's throw away and the neighborhood is quiet and peaceful to walk through. If you want to get away from the city's noise and give your soul a break, the net is the place to go.

We stayed 2 nights and were surprised with the attention to detail and hospitality with which we were received. Our hostess Ronel made sure that we were comfortable at all times. In the middle of a heat wave, she made sure that our room's air conditioning was already on before we arrived. Every little detail was taken care of and really made you feel like an honored guest. We had a great time visiting, swimming and barbecuing. We will definitely use this accommodation again if we go to Paris again.
