The house had everything you need. It was a perfect base to explore all the passes. We will definitely go back for a few more days.
It's close to Rhodes if you want to explore the town. Other activities nearby: Naudes Nek pass. Tenahead lodge, Carlisle Hoek Pass and Volunteershoek Pass.

Very clean neat little place, owner kept us updated on WhatsApp, maybe just suggest hot water bottles or a warm blanket, there is a fireplace, but difficult to keep the fire burning through the night, it got quite cold there. The rest was beautiful, clean and tidy.

Although the views were great and the town of Rhodes very interesting, it was not worth the terrible 64 km dirt road. On top of that, we had to drag our luggage up about fifty uneven steps. The cottage itself was okay but very basic.
Is small, but sufficient. Note that the steps from the car to the cottage are a challenge for older people. The view is beautiful though.
Really enjoyed stay. place is well located in the mountains. You can just relax and enjoy the views or you can also take a walk and explore the surroundings. Sunelle and Hylton are very friendly and helpful.
The chalet is located on a mountainside. Fantastic views of mountains and streams can be expected.

A small well-equipped chalet in the mountains - on a working sheep farm (for one - the other is a high altitude training facility) where you can sit and watch the beautiful mountains, experience the sun, the rain and rest. You feel so close to your Creator! If you want to get some exercise you can walk on the farm, hike in the mountains, take a ride on your mountain bike, go for a trail run on the well-established trails, swim in a Olympic size pool, train in a well-equipped gym, all with the most wonderful couple as your hosts. With the location you can also drive around the most beautiful places. An absolute must for the weary person.
Not necessarily the easiest place to get to, but a lovely place to stay in beautiful surroundings.

Nestled at the foot of the Naudes Nek pass and just a few kilometers outside the historic town of Rhodes, Swallows Nest is ideally situated for exploring the area and within reach of the most beautiful and best wild trout rivers in the country. The chalet is clean and tidy and has everything you need. The views from the patio are indescribably beautiful. Thanks to Sunelle and Yilton for your hospitality.

Much needed breakaway after a long year. The mountains were beautiful. The chalet was the perfect balance of simplicity and comfort.

The chalet is beautifully situated with a nice braai area to sit under the stars in the evening. Great for us from out of town!! Unfortunately, the fridge didn't work at all and the chalet is in serious need of maintenance. Otherwise if in order.
The kitchen is poorly equipped, no electric kettle (the enamel teapot on the gas stove is not what we expect for R800 per night,) no pots or frying pan and since it was a wet night we did not braai, so had to do everything in the microwave. Th approach is not easy as there are many steps to climb to reach the chalet. On a positive note the bed was very comfortable and warm. Suggest the owner looks at what else is on offer at a lower rate in other areas of natural beauty in the Eastern Cape.

Swallows Nest Chalet needs a better shower head and there was no hair dryer. There is no twigs for starting the fire, but luckily I brought blitz.
We had a very nice stay. The cottage is fully equipped and the service and welcome by the owner was excellent. We would very much like to return to the Rhodes area again soon to enjoy the scenery.

The owners were very friendly and helpful, even though we only arrived after dark and in rainy conditions. They did everything in their power to make us feel comfortable because of the power shortage. They even let us know via sms which restaurants were open on 1 Jan at 20:00. The house is neat and cosy, located in breathtaking scenery. It was lovely to wake up to all the farm noises: a rooster that crows, a sheep that bleats, a peacock that calls, and soft raindrops on the roof, with a beautiful sunrise.
'n Lieflike plek om te ontspan en weg te kom van die "rat race!" en nader aan die Skepper te kom. Die uitsig oor die berge, die waterstroom, die geluid van die wind, die voëls en die plaasdiere - dis verfrissend. Die fasiliteite is uitstekend en alles is netjies en skoon. As radio-amateur kon ek my antenna opslaan en 'n klompie kontakte laat werk. Die chalet is amper op die KF39/KF49-lyn.
The perfect way to enjoy the splendor of the surroundings. Well equipped with everything one needs, at a reasonable price. It's just a shame about the steep steps to the chalet.
