We lived wonderfully among the Swartberge. The unit is spacious and comfortable and the beds sleep well. The option to grill inside or outside is also nice. The lawn and space around the house was just what the kids needed after a day in the car. Plus, the food we ordered was top notch!
It was very nice and so quiet you become one with nature there. Nice with the restaurant on site and it closes at 16H00, then it's dead quiet.
It was amazing! I will definitely stay there again.
Wow! What a place! We loved the place! Peaceful and quiet and perfect. The built-in braai worked well. I can really recommend it to anyone! All we regret is that we couldn't stay longer and take the cat home with us!
Will definitely stay here again. Most beautiful view with the friendliest people! Great toast!
Nice stay, beautiful view. Thanks to JD for helping us and making us laugh! Thanks also to JJ and Mary.
The accommodation was very good, the view was very nice. Too bad the menu was reduced and didn't have all the dishes. Will visit there again.
Thank you for our stay and warm welcome.
Fairy tale beautiful surroundings, accommodation is very neat with everything you need. Friendly service.
What a pleasant surprise! The unit was charming and well-equipped. The beds were wonderful and the bedding is good quality. What I loved most was the absolute quiet at night with the amazing stars. We will definitely be back.
Very beautiful, very nice, and very comfortable!
Cottages were very clean and equipped with everything one might need. We arranged for a barbecue pack on arrival and were so surprised when the barbecue pack also included 2 more salads, pumpkin cookies and toast - was delicious. Will definitely go again.
Very nice stay and the view was incredible. The warm blankets and gas heater were incredibly appreciated!
Very nice stay. It's the last accommodation before the Swartberg Pass begins. The views and sunset are unbeatable.
The cottage is neat and clean, but still slightly strangely furnished. The one room is next to the kitchen, but the wall is not built up to the roof, with the result that it is very noisy in the room if someone is busy in the kitchen. Also, it is not the person handling the bookings who receives you; and the lady was not aware that we had added an extra guest to the reservation 2 weeks in advance. But beyond that it was comfortable for a one night stay - the built in braai is perfect for the windy Cape weather, and the view was beautiful! They are pet friendly, but please note that the cottage is not fenced for a puppy and your pet just needs to be watched so they don't disappear along the way.
The location is good, with 360 degree view of the mountains. Views really very beautiful. Unit spacious and well equipped. However, there is no permanent power applied. They rely on solar power but during our visit there was a fault and we were without power for half of our time there. Water also doesn't work when power is off, so we couldn't shower in the morning. Probably not always the case, but I see other reviews have mentioned this as well. The roof in the living room was leaking. Also, be aware that you don't have a lot of privacy. Our front door was right by the restaurant so many customers walked by to see the view or to walk their dogs. It's also where there is smoking, so not very pleasant.
Swartberg Pass Cottages was unfortunately not our favorite place on our holiday. The cottages are built close together and you can hear your neighbor snoring. The restaurant is right next to the cottages and the guests walk and park in front of your entrance - there is no fence around your cottage for pets. The unit uses solar power, which is a strong point for me, but when there is not enough power, a noisy generator is turned on. There are wood-boring beetles in the slatted roof that make small piles of dust everywhere in the cottage (in the kitchen, dining area, bedrooms etc.). The coffee cups and cutlery are chipped/broken which makes them unhygienic. The beds were very nice and comfortable, the showers were nice and hot with good pressure. The decor was pleasant and I hope Swartberg Pass Cottages makes an effort to use people's feedback to improve their facilities. It is located in a perfect location for exploring the Swartberg Pass and the surrounding areas.
What a great stay! Our cottage overlooked the Swartberg Mountains. We enjoyed the "entertainment" area of the cottage with a built-in braai and everything else that we needed. We enjoyed a great breakfast before our trip down to the Gamkaskloof (The Hell).
The location is incredibly beautiful. And the houses are neat and clean.
A must do to stop over and eat at Kobus se Gat. If you can, do stay over at the cottages.
Beautiful scenery, Swartberge in front of you.
Will definitely visit again.
The view was the highlight of the entire 4 nights stay.
Beautiful view and very nice accommodation. Quiet and peaceful.
Perfect place to stay.
Cottages are well equipped and very tidy. We will definitely stay again. Your soup and roast cake were delicious!
We clean our own house and wash dishes, etc. When I get to a place to stay the night, there shouldn't be a notice pasted above the sink that you have to wash the dishes before you drive.
Swartberg Pass Cottages is peaceful, you can find rest for your soul there. Beautiful world.
It was very cold, but the indoor braai and plenty of warm blankets made up for it. The hospitality of the owner and all his workers (and the delicious grilled cakes) means that you will brave any cold. This is the ideal place to get to the snow quickly before all the other people arrive.
Very neat, beautiful place with the most beautiful mountain view. Nice and close to all the places of interest for adults and children. The cottage is neat, stylish and comfortable with friendly people for services. Will stay here again for sure.
We really enjoyed the visit, the house is also very well furnished. Our only scare was that there was a big function going on when we arrived, but at least it was finished by 6h.
This accommodation is not suitable for 6 people. Only for 4. The sofa bed in the living area sleeps extremely uncomfortably.
Situated on the Oudtshoorn side of the Swartberg, just as you come off the pass. The room was nice, but did not have aircon which I assume is because the cottage is off grid.
The description on the website indicates luxury accommodation. It's definitely not luxury! One of the bathrooms' showers did not work. The braai wood was wet. No fire lighters. I had to use my own which I luckily had. Our egg paddle did not have a handle. No indication on the website that the cottages are completely off the grid. No power between ten thirty in the evening and eight thirty the next morning. Annoying guests with loud music. All these things have unfortunately completely spoiled the beautiful surroundings and views.
Due to its exceptional location, Swartberg Pass Cottages is a very special place to stay. One practically has a 300° view of the mountains around you. The R328 leads one through the beautiful valley until close to the Kango Caves. On the trail we even encountered a red cat. The cottage is comfortable and furnished with good taste. It offers everything for an effortless overnight stay. The fact that Kobus' Gat Restaurant is nearby makes it convenient for barbecues or eating out. The staff were very hospitable and helpful.
Very nice place that is well equipped. Would definitely recommend the place. Great service.
There was not always electricity. They go green with solar power. Very simple and instructive.
We had a wonderful stay, thank you very much. The braai suits we got were delicious! We will definitely stay there again.
Our stay was pleasant and the surroundings are very beautiful. There was an initial confusion about the cottage that was booked, but the people at Swartberg cottages went out of their way to make everything right.
Beautiful, neat place with incredible views.
We had a wonderful stay, thank you very much. Can definitely recommend Swartberg Pass Cottages and will stay there again. We forgot a wallet there, which Swartberg brought to our attention. They also helped to return the wallet via Postnet. One of my highlights was the Border Collie, Milo, who slept with us in front of the fire every night.
The units are at the crossroads of the Swartberg Pass and the back road to Calitzdorp. Ideally located especially in times of snow. We were not so lucky, but got enough cold to appreciate Innocent's fire. Then the house was nice and warm even though it was the middle of winter and there is enough space outside for children to get rid of energy. Thank you very much for a lovely stay.
Beautiful view of the Swartberg Mountains.
We (3 adults) thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Protea Cottage. Even when arriving past 10 pm, we were greeted with friendly service. Innocent helped us carry our belongings into the cottage and even had the fire already lit and waiting for us. And as soon as we arrived back from our outings the next day, we received the same friendly enthusiastic service. The cottage is prepared with all the comforts you'd expect. (Complimentary teas, coffee, sugar and milks. Even the firewood and Blitz). There are ample fresh towels, and soft linens, all decorated with strategically placed flowers. Chantel contacted us before arrival to make sure we had all the necessary information and knew exactly where to go. Highly recommend staying here.
The location could not have been more beautiful. Bedding was plush and clean. Friendly staff, especially Innocent, who was kind enough to build our braai fire on both evenings.
The only drawback was a few crickets in the unit but no other complaints. The venue, amenities, atmosphere, ease of booking etc. was excellent.
Lovely cottages along the Swartberge. Beautiful sunset and peaceful atmosphere. Cottages are beautiful, clean and we have the best breads with salad, pumpkin cakes and flannel cake. Food was top notch, most delicious lamb chops ever! Innocent built a great fire for us and offered to braai. Felt so welcome and will recommend it any time.
At first there was some misunderstanding or something because when we arrived the staff was unaware of the fact that we had checked in. However, they got to work quickly and quickly got everything right for us. Very friendly service and a lovely place where you can relax in peace and quiet.
