23 guests' feedbackOur stay was really nice and relaxing. We were not bothered by anyone during our stay. We were visited by some cows who lay under the shade trees. All in all, a very relaxing weekend in a very well equipped cottage!
Communication not good.
The location of the cottage is awesome and very well furnished. All needs are well catered for. Unfortunately, due to the rains, the roads became very bad and without a 4x4 they would not be drivable. Thanks to the hosts who came to our aid and got us in and out. No cell or data signal may be a safety concern should an emergency occur. The web page needs to be more transparent regarding the access roads, electricity, and hot water systems so clients know what to expect. Still a fantastic place to visit if you want to get off the grid and relax.
What an experience it had been. We had a wonderful rest, switched off, and just enjoyed the nature, birds and river! We did have quite a few visitors the first night, from grazing cattle to spiders, snakes and even a bird that couldn't get enough of its own reflection in our little car mirror. Gustav was friendly and very helpful! Next time we will make sure we bring our canine animals which will surely help chase the snakes away and will make sure we bring repellent for the spiders!
We loved the location. So peaceful and close enough to where we needed to be for the Oxpecker.
Basic cottage without any luxuries. If you like comfort this may not be your ideal place. There is everything you need to stay comfortable. The donkey worked very well. It takes between 30min to 1h for nice boiling hot water. The dirt road to the cottage is quite bad. No cell phone reception, but that was part of why we chose the spot. We had a visit from the green bush snake, but were able to move it back to the bush. It takes about 40 minutes to get to the larger attractions of the Drakensberg.

To rest and only depend on gas, battery lights and a donkey for hot water. Nothing nearby to go shopping quickly or things that can interrupt one's attention. The river is so calming and the view of the river and all the feelings are beautiful. If one wants to be in nature without any technology or luxuries, the place is really peaceful for one's soul. Yes there are spiders and funny bugs, but that is part of nature.

Really enjoyed the farm. My little girl and I had fun swimming in the river. Dogs were done after the nice weekend on the farm.

Very lovely, quiet place on the banks of the Tugela River. If you like a silent place to relax, this is the place, if you've got dogs, they will enjoy it. Away from everything but all the basic amenities are available. Would love to spend time there again. Nerissa and Gustav were very helpful. If you've got small kids, please get some snake repellant to take along with you, sometimes you may find unexpected guests. The first day we found one green bush snake sitting on the outside window of our bedroom, it's not harmful, we chased it away but to our surprise, within an hour it came back and was on the windowsill but by this time it was two, and from the sunrise to sunset, they both sat on that windowsill and it disappears between the stone cracks and window frame. On our third day, we found four green snakes sitting on the windowsill and that really scared us. Every time we chased them, they would come back and sit on the window.
Self catering house but there is no fridge, only a deep freezer so there is no way to keep your food refrigerated properly. We got supplied with “drinking water” that was brown and I drinkable. For hot water, you need to light up the donkey outside, which we were warned about but when we got there, the wood was rotten and wet.
Gustav made a special effort to solve the slight problem to make it convenient for us. The silence was fantastic!! It is definitely worth a next visit. Unbelievably nice and relaxed. Many thanks also to Gustav for the information about the walking routes. Kobus & Christa
The house is basically one large room under a thatched roof and a secluded "garden". There is no one else in sight except a few farm workers who live far across the fields. The house is well equipped and one can sit on the deck for hours and look out over the river and all the bird life activities.
We had a great time. So peaceful. Loved the deck.
Very special place if you want to get away from the city noise. Quiet on the banks of the Tugela. If you like silence, this is the place to relax. Away from it all but all the basic amenities are available. Would love to spend time there again.

A little camp for the dogs to run around in freely would've been nice, but other than that it was wonderful!
Swartkop is a beautiful place, with the most amazing scenery around it. My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Will definitely want to go again!
We stayed the weekend and it was unbelievably peaceful. I will definitely be back in summer to enjoy the river!
