33 guests' feedbackWe enjoyed a relaxing stay in a beautiful environment. The cottage was well kitted out. Had wonderful sightseeing trips as well. Will strongly recommend to friends and family as an ideal escape from city life.
Our stay was very enjoyable - our hosts were most gracious. The Forest Cottage is ideal for any person that wants to spend time in the bush , far away from anyting , or anuyone else.
It was nice to stay there. For people who want to get away from the hustle and bustle and recharge their batteries, this is ideal. The wildlife viewing tour that the host gave us was terrific fun, and it was a feast for the eyes to be able to see the wildlife so close.
From start to finish the host of Syringa Sands was in touch with us. We could drive around and see everything as if it were our own farm! We went for a walk, we went to the Waterpoele, we went for a drive around. The Bosveld and Waterberge were fairytale beautiful. Accommodation is clean, tidy and safe. Everything you need is there. It was a lovely visit and we will definitely go back again! Keep it up!
Syringa Sands is the best!
Wonderful experience so deep and secluded. The road is indeed long and difficult and must preferably be undertaken in daylight! At least 3 hours of travel. High clearance vehicle is required. Pack everything you need!
Would recommend Syringa Sands Forest Cottage to people looking for quiet. We will also visit Syringa again.
This was our best cottage during our 4 week trip through South Africa. The combination of the simple but complete accommodation with the exclusive location makes it one of the best places to spend your holiday. The accommodation has everything you need and is comfortable, spacious and clean. And the location is one we've seldom experienced. Really in the wilderness. And don't forget the hospitality of the owners, which was also outstanding, and the drive over the farm was amazing. One note: you really need a 4x4, we've got a BMW x3 which was okay for now, but during harder conditions probably wouldn't get us there because of the insufficient clearance. We would definitely go back, but unfortunately we're back in the Netherlands.
Lovely quiet, scenic surroundings in the woodland. Comfortable accommodation and friendly and helpful host and hostess. Will visit again.
We had a lovely stay. We relaxed in the quietness and peacefulness. Our two grandsons saw so many new birds and loved it there.
Our accommodation was beautiful, clean and well furnished with all the necessary accessories for easy self-catering. The silence, scenery and facilities were first class! It was the perfect getaway where you literally experience the forest with all your senses. The game farm is in an incredibly beautiful environment with streams, ponds and mountains. The forest and trees around the accommodation made it feel as if we were hidden in the middle of a forest. Every day different goats came to graze around the residence. Sean and Alex (hosts) are amazing people and were very hospitable, friendly and helpful. They went out of their way to make it very enjoyable for us. We really enjoyed the game drive and it was great to hear the history of the game farm and surroundings as well as to see the vegetation, giraffes and different goats. Thanks for everything! There is no cell phone reception, but we had WiFi in the accommodation all the time, even during Eskom's "loadshedding" - one big plus! Due to the rainy season, the roads are not accessible for a regular sedan car. We can definitely recommend it and will visit again in the future.
We can highly recommend a stay at Syringa Sands Forest Cottage. Alex and Sean provided us with all the necessary information in advance. The cottage is furnished with everything you need to relax or keep yourself busy if you want to. Tucked away, cosy, clean and comfortable, an ideal getaway from the concrete jungle. We will come back.
The cottage is located in a beautiful part of the Waterberg district. Slightly difficult to get to ─ not accessible by just any car. Our car was slightly higher and the directions from the hosts were clear and complete and helped. There is enough space to relax on the veranda, around the boma or inside the cottage on the sofa. The cottage contains everything one needs and lives comfortably. The natural beauty, goats that come to graze around the cottage and hiking trails contributed to the peace and tranquility we experienced at this picturesque place. Many thanks to Sean and Alex for the hospitality!
The cottage is very privately located and it feels like you are alone on the farm. Very tidy with everything one needs, lovely shower and very comfortable bed. Even a covered parking for your ride. The bird life in incredible: African Cuckoo, Orange-breasted Lark, Yellow-bellied Stink, Gold-tailed Woodpecker, Black-headed Wagtail and Green-backed Warbler could be heard calling all day long. (Just to name a few). Next to the fire at night you could hear the call of the African Night Owl and Scops Owl. A bonus was that we could take our puppy with us. Thanks for that. We can wholeheartedly recommend Syringa Sands Forest Cottage if you like nature and silence.
Hosts Alex and Sean are very friendly and accommodating. Our stay was perfect, absolutely nothing we would have changed. We will be back.
Comfortable, clean cottages in untouched nature setting. We spotted animals near the hut and also on the miles of walking or cycling trails around the cottage. Very hospitable hosts, Sean and Alex!
Ons het Syringa Sands baie geniet. Die cottage is mooi netjies en baie stil. Ons sal vir seker weer gaan!
Syringa will definitely visit us again. Unit is very neat and felt right at home.
The cottage is beautifully decorated. It provides everything needed , even a dishwasher, ice, firewood, quality bedding, washing machine, fireplace and outdoor shower. There are nice trails to explore. The veranda is lovely. It's a hidden treasure. We will certainly go back.
Syringa Sands is a real gem! Perfect for a family getaway and spending quality time together. The cottage is very well equipped, and the peace of being far from any other people is amazing! Good mountain biking and walking, with trails suitable for all levels. Our highlight was braaing marshmallows while watching shooting stars.
My parents visited us from Poland and we searched long and hard for a place that would not be too far away from Pretoria, but would do justice to South Africa’s beauty. We also didn’t want to leave our dogs home alone. Syringa Sands was an absolute gem in all aspects! Not only did we get to spend a couple of days in complete tranquility, but we also enjoyed the unsurpassed hospitality of Alex and Sean (and their two poochies), who showed us around the farm and enjoyed some sundowners with us. Syringa Sands is absolutely the best combination of all the most precious things that this country has to offer - beautiful nature, stunning animals and the kindest of people. We will be coming back soon!
See stars.
Good value for money.
Syringa Sands was all we hoped for and more. It has been very thoughtfully designed and equipped with everything needed to make staying there an absolute pleasure. It is very private and peaceful with just the passing animals and abundant bird life for company.
Very tranquil breakaway to the bushveld.
Ahhh yes.. Syringa Sands...Well, what can we say? The stuff that makes for good memories... When I close my eyes, the tranquil setting at Syringa Sands seems to summon me for a revisit. So good not to hear any cars, loud voices, barking dogs or the pounding bass of some idiot's sound system. Yes folks! Just the lonely howl of some jackal in the distance, accompanied by the liquid call of the Fierynecked Nightjar right through the night. What more can one ask for? During the day some Plumcoloured Starling, Orangebreasted Bush Shrike, Whitethroated Robin, Bleating Warbler, Greyheaded Bush Shrike, Kurrichane Thrush, Redbilled Woodhoopoe and Pearlspotted Owl, amongst others, delighted the senses, not to mention the priceless antics of a couple of tree squirrels frolicking about in front of the stoep. Even the vervet monkeys are well-behaved and did not once attempt to enter the house, which was left wide open in the safety of the solitude this splendid bush setting provides. The house itself, with its large fridge and freezer, large shower, king-size beds and under-roof parking was a joy in itself. Plenty of wood was supplied by the host for the large fire-pit where we sat every night and enjoyed the mesmerizing glow of the burning wood and dance of the flames whilst sipping at a cool glass of red wine. What a pleasant week it was at Syringa Sands, tucked deep into the African bush where nature has its final say. Ahhh yes. Syringa Sands!
The bushveld was green and beautiful after the rains. We were kindly picked up for a game drive which was unforgettable. Most beautiful farm views of the Waterberg Mountains. The house was easy and comfortable. Loved the dishwasher. The fire pit and comfortable camping chairs made the evenings of fire- and stargazing unforgettable. It was just perfect and relaxing. Exactly what I wanted: bushveld, fire, stars... totally relaxing!
We had a lovely long weekend at Syringa Sands. It is the perfect place to rest, recharge and get away from the busy city. The location of the cottage is beautiful and it is well-equipped. The children didn't miss the TV or WiFi for a moment - books, bicycles, game drive, swimming in the dam and board games kept them busy. The birds around the house is unbelievable and the braai under the stars (company of bushbabies) was a highlight. We will definitely go again!
A small peace of heaven. Game drives, roan darting and bass fishing. Lovely surroundings. Will go again.
Perfect place to switch off from the city's hustle and bustle.
The 4 km long narrow lane was absolutely worth the trouble. Far from any noise, close to nature in a beautiful room and heavenly area. What more could you ask for? The host and hostess were incredibly hospitable without being overbearing and went out of their way to make our stay unforgettable. We will definitely go there again.
Our stay at Syringa Sands was very pleasant. Warning: The road on the farm from the gate to the house is not suitable for "low" vehicles.
Ideal if you would like to have a great rest.
