We could sit for hours and hang out on Olive's porch while we could greet Prince Albert's visitors passing by in the street and share our enjoyment of the town with them.
The place is perfectly located, we could walk everywhere, I could also ride from there to the cycling starting point. Everything we needed was there, as well as many details such as matches and "fire lighters" and wood at a very good price. The beds were wonderfully warm and everything was very comfortable.
What a beautiful, neat and clean place to stay. Will definitely book with Ta Mala's Self-Catering Cottages again! The place has everything your heart desires for a nice break, as well as very friendly staff.

Ta Mala is the best self-catering unit we have stayed in after many visits to Prince Albert. The units know what the visitor's expectations are, clearly have experience in the industry and touch. The cottage is modern, but with passion for what was. Caring owners and everything and more, come take a look for yourself!
The self-catering unit has everything we needed and we had a great stay. Didn't use the nice barbeque area because it was just too cold outside and the sitting and kitchen area was also cold because the air conditioning is in the room. I would suggest that the hair dryer cord might be made longer as it is a bit short and I had to bend over. Hostess received us very kindly.

Spending some time in a place that is over 100 years old doesn't always happen. The units have been beautifully restored and the unit is very tidy. We stayed in Windpomp which has a lovely veranda overlooking the courtyard garden. The cottages are one block from the main street with the beautiful Swartbergpas Hotel also just around the corner.
Hostess made extra effort with our reservation without us asking for it. Accommodation was neat and spacious and conveniently close to everything. We were 2 groups and the reservation was upgraded without us requesting it, we were able to have a great time together. Hostess was very friendly and helpful. The cleaning help was just as friendly and professional. Had a great time here. Smallest details are thought of.

For business purposes I have stayed over everywhere, in and around Prince Albert. Ta Mala's Self-Catering Cottages was an amazing stay experience in Prince Albert, within walking distance of the town and its attractions. Exceptionally tidy, equipped with literally everything needed, with quite a few interesting surprises. I'm going back.
It was our second time at Ta Mala's Self-Catering Cottages and just like last time it was honestly lovely to sleep and rest there.
We arrived there on motorbikes in the heat of the day. The place was neat and deliciously cool. We could immediately cool off in the lovely swimming pool and from there walk down to town for a nice meal at the Rude Chef!

It was an absolutely wonderful experience on the way back from Oudtshoorn to our house, we took the long way back. The cottages are warm and very well furnished and we enjoyed the natural beauty of Prince Albert all the more because of the gem.

The sleeping place is painfully neat. The stove works wonderfully and we had a wonderful time relaxing in the silence.
You are welcome to stay here. I slept in Windpomp and found it spacious, neat, clean, nicely furnished and comfortable. The white linen was crisp and the mattress very comfortable. I was kindly received by Dewald who even carried my heavy cooler box to my unit, and left me back to the car.

I had a great time at Ta Mala's, I was really pleasantly surprised by the place. I appreciate that so much has been done to keep the original character of the cottage without sacrificing comfort in any way. There are all possible amenities to ensure a wonderful stay, and a few extras, such as the outdoor shower and swimming pool to cool off in. The location is perfect, within walking distance of everything. I would very much like to spend the night there again and can recommend the accommodation with certainty.

Ta Mala is a beautiful place. Everything is beautiful, inside and out. We were received very kindly and everything was clean and tidy. There were even electric blankets on the bed. It is a stone's throw from the town centre. I went for an early walk every morning and experienced the village when everyone was getting up. We have stayed at Ta Mala before and would recommend it to everyone.
I lived in the Aloe cottage. It is wonderfully spacious, with a new bathroom and a large veranda that is nice in the shade in the afternoons. There is also a gas grill, which is very handy for quickly cooking a piece of meat. Good WiFi and Netflix came in handy for entertainment in the evening.
Bad smell at front door of septic tank. Front door has no blinds and faces the street so no privacy and if you don't close the room door people can look in. As a result, the room becomes very stuffy. Pillow is either too high and hard or too flat.
Ta Mala's location is nice and central and my wife and I could walk to everything in town. The walk around makes the Prins Albert Karoodorp experience that much more charming.
Unfortunately we could only spend the night, but the short time there was nice! Everything is practical, clean and comfortable! Thank you Ta Mala! We slept well!

The Meerkat cottage is perfect for two people and we will definitely want to go back. The detail and finish with which the cottage was restored is very special and makes for a unique experience. The cottage is only about two blocks away from the central town where most places to eat are located so it is easy to walk around from Ta Mala's. Erika was also very good with communication which contributed to a nice experience.
This is the neatest, most incredible, well-kept place you can find. The most beautiful antiques. My children were happy and did not want to return. Everything you could possibly need is there, and the full-size fridge with the kids was most welcome. A must for any family. A piece of paradise!

We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived tired from the West Coast at Ta Mala's to spend the night. Full kitchen, bathroom with large shower and tub. Throughout, quality linen was used and attention was also paid to heating, although it was not necessary to use the electric blanket or air conditioning. What was impressive, however, was learning how Ta Mala's came about and seeing photos of how much effort went into the restoration. As regular travelers, we have not yet used accommodation where so much effort has been put into restoration and decor. It's lovely to stay in such a homely atmosphere, felt like we knew the owners well when we left early the next morning. Unit was painstakingly tidy and of course the undercover braai was a bonus for me.

When one travels through the breathtaking surroundings of the Black Mountains and comes under the impression of an ancient mountain pass with its stories of people who built on it, and you finally stop in Prince Albert in front of an old house that is that same antiquity breathe, do you feel small and insignificant and just want to be quiet for a few moments and reflect on the life of yesterday and the day before yesterday and today. We had the privilege of staying in the Meerkat room. It is old. And luxury. Touching. An experience you should not miss.
It was a lovely place to stay. If you travel with friends, make sure you book the two interleading units. Unfortunately we only stayed for one night and we will definitely recommend Ta Mala's to future guests. Clean, spacious, crafty interior and everything that was needed. The full size fridges were welcome - most places have bar fridges that can be quite problematic at times. Thank you for sharing this beautiful place with us.
Little step in hallway to lounge and bedroom was a nightmare death trap for us frail people as we tripped and fell before we put suitcases there to prevent it happening. Always having to be aware. Also, the braai grid was not clean. Also, I was concerned about no off-street parking, but no problem. Otherwise great accommodation.

My husband was sceptical at first when we arrived at the house, but a little while in the friendly atmosphere, I realised that I've seen Meerkat in a magazine and was excited. Everything was perfect. Thank you for the good night's rest.

Ta Mala's Windmill House is clean and equipped with anything you may need. It is centrally located and safe. We had a wonderful stay. The only problem is that the payment is difficult because you have to wait until 09:00 for the cleaner to make your payment with a card machine. We wanted to leave early but couldn't because we had to wait for her to pay. Unfortunately, there is no other payment option.
We didn't know the house had a thatched ceiling. My husband is very allergic to dust and this is never an option for us. Furthermore, the house had a strong Doom smell which does not favor someone with allergies. I think they spray it to keep the bugs out. There were no bugs or vermin. Furthermore, the owner is very nice and we have no complaints, I think for people who are not so sensitive to dust, it can work very well.
Available parking must be allocated/numbered to the various units.

Lovely stay, the price seems a bit heavy when you book, but it's worth every penny. Great cooling off in the splash pool. Very good attention to detail. We thought the mosquito net was decorative, but not! Nice braai facilities and the dead silence that only the Karoo can offer.

We stayed two winter nights at Ta Mala. The little houses are traditional houses that have been restored, so it is modern yet traditional. Equipped with everything you need. Fireplace and winter linen so it wasn't cold. Ta Mala location is perfect, close enough so you can explore the town on foot but far enough so the traffic in the main road doesn't bother you.

The rooms, kitchen and toilets were very neat, clean and beautiful. The only things I would ask for next time would be: 1. instant coffee- there was a little bit of coffee, but it was ground coffee, but we didn't see a machine that could use ground coffee. 2. In the bedrooms there is aircon but even with all the lights off and the curtains closed there is too much light in the room to be able to sleep properly, because of the aircon's light. If they could maybe put masking tape or something over it it would make a big difference. Otherwise it was beautiful and very nice accommodation. Thank you!

The price for this unit should be a room and not self-catering. No indoor shower. No room to move. Too much squashed in a small space. Cleaners also wanted us out at 8 am. It was not a good visit. Disappointing.

I stayed in Meerkat. Everything was so neat and special, to the flowers in the bathroom. The shower outside was an experience with the moon and stars that peep at you! Everything was very practical and accessible, the bed was very comfortable, and the chairs under the bower were used a lot! Wish I could have used the braai or fireplace, but the weekend was just too short. Thank you very much that I was able to stay there - a privilege to sleep in a tastefully decorated place with a lot of history.

We stayed in Meerkat (Oct. 2016). Perfect little cottage, even with ancient furniture, candles, lamps, musquitoe-net, coal stove, large bath and outdoor shower. Has everything you need to find peace for your soul (remember to bring a good book and some bubble bath!). Ta Mala's team went out of their way to make our wedding anniversery very special: huge bouquet of flowers and sparkling wine in the fridge completed the romantic, old-world atmofphere in the little house.
We enjoyed the stay very much. The rooms are decorated with good quality items, bedding is fresh and neat. Air conditioner in bedroom was a bonus in December. Bikes were available to explore the town! Good value for money.
The house has been very nicely restored with special pieces that give it a very cozy feeling. Everything was neat, clean and comfortable. The cozy dressing gown was a bonus. It's centrally located and walking distance from town, but you also don't have all the hustle and bustle on your doorstep, which makes it nice and quiet for an afternoon nap. What a lovely surprise to walk into Ta Mala with picture perfect decor. Windpomp is a lovely holiday home and fully furnished. We just found that Meerkat is not fully equipped for self-care.
