It's a wonderful place in the Karoo to end. The fact that there is no power makes it even better. One lives back in the old days with the donkeys and the lamps that burn with a fireplace. There is a gas geyser and everything. It is comfortable, peaceful and very beautiful.
It was basically the highlight of our vacation. What an experience with all the rain that fell there. The friendly donkeys were a delight. Sorry we could only stay one night.
We thoroughly enjoyed the absence of electricity and the visits in front of the fireplace. Soul renewing.

We had a lovely 3 day break. It was cold. We could make a nice fire. The house is equipped with everything you need. Definitely a home again.
For nature lovers, this is a perfect setting, with breathtaking views of the Karoo Hoogland. The cottage was very clean and very comfortable. The lovely indoor fireplace kept us warm and added to the ambience. We hardly noticed the lack of electricity as there are so many lamps available. And with no signal, we could completely enjoy peace and tranquillity.
If you like road driving, you should spend the night here. Take the road from Merweville, go across the tarmac again to the dirt road next to Fraserburg. Book at this incredible oasis. So romantic with candles and paraffin lamps. At least LED lights too! The most beautiful furniture, each room with modern en-suite bathrooms, hot water, super neat, equipped with everything and the most beautiful sheepskin quilt and goose down duvets on the bed. Then take the road to the left over the Ou Poort Pass. Wow! Get off the tarmac and see the world on the dirt roads!

For some people the place is heaven on earth. Teenagers struggle with the fact that there is no power and cell reception.
One can tell matter-of-factly: Neat, clean, well-equipped house with 360-degree mountain views, effective booking and reception, safe environment, suitable for outdoor enthusiasts, etc. Or you can wax lyrical: Excellent, exceptional accommodation where you experience from the first light on the impressive mountains, to the last wonder at the stars, the silences and testimonies of hundreds of millions of years of Karoo evolution - an exceptional place that you will cherish and of which you will dream for a long time. Add to that a warm welcome and interesting local stories. Just decide which description you prefer: Both are true. The slightly fewer stars for "value for money" is simply because the distance from our place of residence also eats into gas money; in fact the accommodation cost is reasonable. The four stars for location is also because it is a little far for a short stay, but the actual location of the house with the views of mountains and valleys is excellent. Highly recommend.
Tamboershoek is very nicely situated on a sheep farm in the Karoo. Beautiful and neat. Had a great stay, just be careful if you go there in the summer - it can get very hot!
On the website a plunge pool is advertised, but there isn't one.
Thanks for a great time out there in the karoo! Due silence and starry sky was a wonderful bonus. Have fun swimming, grilling and hanging out with our young people's children! They loved the place! So nice that there was no power! Thank you for a beautiful, clean and tidy house that has everything you need!
The two bedroom cottage far away from lights and people was exactly what we were looking for! The silence and view and countless stars in the evening were balm for the soul. What made the experience even more special is that there is no cell phone reception and we visited in the evening by lamplight and fireplace! The cottage is very well equipped and the beds sleep like a dream. A highlight was "swimming" in the plunge pool in the late afternoon and drinking in the incredible view. It was absolute value for money!

If you want to get away from everything and everyone and find your feet, this is the perfect place. Everything you want from a self-catering unit and even more you will find there. Beautiful rooms and neatly and nicely furnished. Didn't miss electricity at all, owners provided enough oil lamps and battery lights. The indoor fireplace created a wonderful atmosphere. Beautiful view. River walk was unfortunately dry, no wildlife seen. Will definitely visit again and highly recommend.
