Tidy. Good air conditioning. Everything one needs.
Great time, electric blankets on all the beds, high pressure geyser, which improves the shower experience so much, braai area is well equipped and air conditioning can set hot and cold.

For load shedding, a plan has also been made with an emergency light in the chalet. Nice stoep and braai place with a beautiful view over the field.

We stayed in unit 1. It is very comfortable and equipped with everything you need. The large veranda with braai area is perfect for braaiing a lamb chop as the sun sets. The aircon is also a big plus in the hot summer days.
The accommodation was 5-star quality, everything you need is there and the Northern Cape generously received welcome rain.

One of the best overnight stays we have ever enjoyed. Spotlessly clean, comfortable bed with good cotton linen, well-appointed kitchen with a good-sized fridge. It was our first visit to Tarantula Guesthouse, having stayed in a few other accommodation places in Calvinia. We were pleasantly surprised. The unit was clean, the bed very comfortable, and the kitchen area was well-equipped with tea, coffee, sugar, and milk supplied. The view from the unit is lovely and peaceful, and a patio with a braai is a great addition for self-catering. Toiletries were also supplied. We will definitely choose Tarantula Guesthouse again and will tell our friends about it too.

We really enjoyed our time at Tarantula! The units are all well spaced from each other, which means that everyone can enjoy and take advantage of their privacy. The location is perfect, not too far but not on the main street of the town where you are part of the hustle and bustle. The unit was spotless and beautiful! We would really recommend Tarantula to anyone and will be visiting again soon ourselves!
After many sleepovers with limited spaces and tree-scraping equipment, Tarantula was a wonderful, delightful experience. Definitely a must for anyone visiting Calvinia. Best value for money. Ten out of ten for Tarantula. We come again.
Tarantula's accommodation is very neat and clean. There is everything needed for an overnight stay. The water was nice and warm and the water pressure is excellent. Lovely to have the view of the field in the morning. Maybe some advice, the big bed needs attention, it feels like there is a hard board running from top to bottom and the mattress is laid out. Furthermore, it can be recommended to stay here.
Tarantula is now pure farm. Quiet, tidy, clean accommodation with the most comfortable beds. The view from unit 1 is amazing. Hendrina is a touchy hostess. Will stay there again.

Although Tarantula is in town, it is wonderfully quiet with a nice farm atmosphere. From your large porch you look out over the field and hills in the distance with a beautiful windmill in the foreground. The spacious chalet (there are 3 a short distance from each other) is spotlessly clean and luxurious. The garden is beautiful, big and the location feels safe. We were kindly received and will definitely stay there again, just an extra night to explore the beautiful rural village and use the private braai place on the stoep (and the other night to eat again at the Blou Nartjie.
We were welcomed very kindly. We were so surprised when we got there and entered the beautiful unit. Large green lawns and bright blue swimming pool. The interior is spacious and tidy. We will definitely visit them again and advise people to relax there.

Tarantula is always my first choice in Calvinia because it is an exceptionally neat place where everything works and one can just be at peace. I tour regularly and can recommend Tarantula anytime.
We have been warned about it, but it is abnormal and the place should be thoroughly fumigated. Would recommend for overnight stays, but mosquitoes need to be addressed.

Our unit was very nice, neat and clean, the hostess was friendly and helpful. Our only problem was that the swimming pool was not available and we stayed there with our grandchildren precisely to shorten the road to Cape Town, and there is not really anything else to do for a 3 and 6 year old. Otherwise everything was perfect.
Tarantula is the ideal overnight accommodation for Augrabies or the Kgalagadi. You can barbecue or eat in the Die Blou Nartjie restaurant. Their food is excellent!

Great for overnight stop. 5 minutes walk from shops, museum, restaurants. Wonderful views over veld and Hantam Mountains. We stayed 2 nights and felt the lack of any easy chairs to relax in and read. Generally clean but windows and louvre blinds well overdue for good clean. However we would stay again and recommend place to friends.

Tarantula Guesthouse is located on a large private property in a quiet and safe neighbourhood of Calvinia. Overlooking the open plains with mountains in the background. Great location . The guesthouse is very well equipped. The village of Calvinia is within walking distance. We highly recommend Tarantula Guesthouse. Very good value and we will stay there again when in that corner of the world.

Even when we wanted to check in much earlier the second time, there were no problems. Our vehicle was safely stored with them for the period between the two consumer dates, with no problems. Located on the edge of the town with a beautiful view of the mountains. Big lawn with swimming pool and braai at unit 3. Enough space to turn in parking area if you are towing something. Unit itself is neat with WiFi and everything that you need. We have stayed there twice and will definitely stay there again.

The place is very neat and clean. A huge bed with lovely bedding. Def worth stopping by. More than enough space between guest houses. That's how I like it. People who own guesthouses can feel free to visit Tarantula to see what accommodation should look like. I challenge you from all over South Africa. My wife explained it very nicely in the morning with a cup of peasant tea on the stoep (then we farmed) overlooking the warm Karoo. "It's heaven in the middle of nowhere." If I come back to the area I will definitely stay there again.

We were warmly welcomed and shown our room as well as the operating procedure for the TV and aircon. The rooms are well apart from each other which provides total privacy. The under cover braai area is fantastic and one can relax in front of a fire and enjoy the panoramic view. There is also a walled off braai area for larger parties, ideal to take your friends and enjoy an evening under the stars.

Tarantula's self-catering units are highly recommended. The house's layout and location offers privacy, very spacious, neat and clean and excellently, fully and stylishly equipped. Not to mention the spacious covered braai area, beautiful well manicured garden, beautiful view of the Karoo and mountains in the distance, as well as Frans and Hendrina's hospitality that makes you feel welcome. The fair rate, considering everything on offer, makes it excellent value for money, probably among the best we've been to. Except for the freezer space which might be a bit cramped for 2 people wanting to spend 3 days or longer (and I'm sure Frans and Hendrina will sort this out quickly), you'd have to go far to find fault with this accommodation.

Tarantula was an overnight stop, but you can stay longer. The place is super clean - you can eat off the floors - and is excellently equipped. All problem was, that the WiFi did not work well or not at all. We were received kindly, beds sleep well and everything works. Really recommend!

We were warmly welcomed and taken to our rooms. It's extremely beautiful with a garden where our dog could also stretch her legs after a 1000 kilometres. Our firewood were ready to be used and we walked to the closest shop for some meat.

Recommend this accommodation. Excellent view of the Karoo and the mountains from all the houses. Cottages are in great condition and the King size bed was very comfortable. Cutlery, kitchen equipment, linen, furniture etc. is of top quality. Owners have taken absolutely no shortcuts to make the stay comfortable for their guests. Nice grilled Karoo lamb because all the houses have a braai area. Frans upgraded us to the pool unit, free of charge. We had a nice swim too. We decided to visit Tarantula for a week in the month of July. Here you will be able to rest and close.
