131 guests' feedbackThe stay was very nice and very affordable. I wish there was a kettle, but luckily the kiosk served coffee. I also wish the advertising did not claim to have a heated pool, as it was the same temperature as the other two, which are cold pools.
Fantastic fun.
The stay at Thaba Monate Game Lodge was great! We could only check in at 12:00, as we were attending a wedding in Harties. The lodge manager was very nice and very helpful with this! She arranged with the gate that we would come in later. The chalet we were in was clean, neat and exactly as shown in the photos. I loved the fact that there was no WiFi, no TV and limited cell service. This ensured that we as a family could spend uninterrupted time together. The lodge has a swimming pool, mini golf and zipline - which ensures that everyone has something to do. Overall, the stay was great!
Excellent location. Friendly staff. Boy is a treat! Only negative was 2 nights of loud music and chatter by other campers. Sorry there was no hot water pool available when we were there.
I highly recommend Thaba Monate; however, I wouldn't recommend it if you are camping with a group of friends. No noise allowed when you are a group; it becomes louder as you talk. Lovely place, value for money.
We enjoyed it very much. Each time was an experience and offered so much natural tranquility, to rest on your own again and really enjoy it with everyone.
Delicious and very neat.
We were absolutely amazed at how wonderful the place was. The beauty of the chalets and the environment is breathtaking. And the pools are wonderful, with waterslides, putt-putt, and tennis courts, all free. Any tiny request was attended to at once. We went on the most fantastic 4x4 ride. All in all, the place is fantastic, the pictures on the website do not do it justice, and we will be back as soon as possible. This is my new favourite place. Try it, you won't be sorry!
Wonderfully quiet and campsites nice and big. Swimming pools delicious, bar area nice place to hang out with friendly people! The owner and Tannie at reception are awesome people who helped us and made us feel very much at home! Bathrooms were neat, but could be serviced every day. The road from the gate to the campsite could perhaps be leveled a bit, but at least no 4x4 needed.
The accommodation at the Thaba Monate Game Lodge was very neat and well looked after. The staff and owners are very friendly and helpful. The views are incredibly beautiful.
Chalets are neat and well kept. Staff members very friendly and helpful. Beautiful nature.
Beautiful views, beds sleep great, hot water, we really enjoyed it and will definitely visit again. Staff very helpful.
The stay was awesome.
Very nice stay. Thank you.
We had a wonderfully relaxing stay.
The stay was good, the views were breathtaking.
Great, my grandkids were happy, entertainment galore.
See stars.
Very nice and staff very helpful.
We had a great time at Thaba Monate Game Lodge. We will go again, thank you.
Not at all as advised. There is not a restaurant.
The place is becoming dilapidated and lacks upgrading, roads and infrastructure.
Stay was moderate. Chalets are neglected.
The units are clean and have everything you need, plates, cups, cooking utensils. The braai works. But everything is old, a bit dilapidated. The roads in Thaba Monate are not accessible at all with an ordinary bakkie! You can't take a game drive at all. We were very disappointed. There are two ponds on the premises. But we couldn't get to them at all.
I didn't expect to have such a wonderful stay, but this was wonderful!
Very nice place, just enough people. Very neat and clean. The ladies at reception and the shop are very helpful and went out of their way to help us where they could. I just think they should maybe look at having security move around more throughout the evening.
Lovely place to visit. The problem was that there was no light around the place. It was too dark to move from one house to another.
Peaceful and I would go again, only problem was there were no big pots.
It was very pleasant. A couple of suggestions we have are to service the units (people who come to clean). Give the vacationer the option to pay extra for a cleaning service or not. Also only inform the people who book chalets about the stairs (number 5 and 6). We had a parent with previous hip surgery who struggled with the stairs. The maintenance of the place is reasonable and the views finominal. Good service overall and close enough from Gauteng.
We did enjoy the stay despite the following issues. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It must have been a very beautiful destination in its heyday but it is in need of some serious upgrades. I don't like to complain but here are some of the issues that need "fixing". The roads are very bad and one cannot drive at all. We have an EcoSport, which is not a low car but it could not cope with the rocky roads. The geyser is a big problem as the hot water just disappears in the middle of a shower. We also had a burst pipe on Saturday morning, so had no water for several hours but they did send someone to fix it that afternoon. Nowhere to hang dishcloths or towels or wet clothes. No bowls to use in the microwave or even to serve food. We were in Chalet no 16 and the access from the car to the chalet is very challenging especially for a family of 4 staying for 4 days. We had to climb backward and forwards up and down all those stairs about 6 times just to get our luggage and food from the car to the chalet. (Hubby and I are both pensioners). The grill on the braai is very bent and all the meat ends up sliding down to the middle of the grill. The chairs in the dining area are very high and difficult for elderly people to sit on. They are also too high for the table. At the moment I would not consider returning to Thaba Monate for a stay but I believe that most of the problems can be rectified and it can become a very nice destination for a family holiday.
Lovely woodland weekend. Quiet and peaceful. Nice swimming and walking among wildlife. Friendly staff.
They deserve a 2nd chance after Covid-19's ugly claws.
See stars.
There is maintenance that needs to be done - Change of ownership is a difficult time. Lots of potential. Wish the new team all the best.
Although the place is placed in between mountainous area, with trees and stream flowing right in front of the chalets, the maintenance is very poor. Lots of cockroaches in our room (luckily I had my insects spray). Broken tiles with residues in, I was not happy with the greetings from the ladies after introducing myself she went on. No one bothered to clean the pool, we kept on asking for it to be switched on. It should be cleaned thoroughly.
Old cabinets and stinking cushions.
Chalets walls and curtains terribly dirty. Swimming pools filthy and slippery on the bottom. Store has 3 items on shelves. Always have excuses as to why everything is actually falling apart. No maintenance and renovation is done. Campsites were crazy empty and chalets too. Children's slide was closed. Owners knew about the Easter weekend coming up, no effort was made regarding the pool, cafe, slide or grass that was all overgrown and not to mention the dirty curtains and walls and sofas inside the chalet. Will not recommend to anyone.
We really enjoyed going camping at Thaba Monate this weekend. The dirt road to the campground is not too bad, and we really enjoyed walking and biking in the cliff. Goats are very tame, only sometimes troublesome with overturning trash cans etc. Was a lovely weekend.
The resort and surroundings were a wonderful experience.
It was wonderful, other than the weather being dull - we enjoyed our stay.
The stay was great just that I felt there was not much fresh air in the bedrooms, so I was the only one struggling to sleep but all others slept well.
Very nice stay, the lodge needs a little attention but understandable after the whole of COVID 19. Staff are friendly and happy to help. Dirt road is not bad at all. We had a good time and slept there.
The place is very neat and clean, the bathrooms are cleaned every now and then. Swimming pools also nice and clean. Will definitely go again.
Our family had a great time relaxing and enjoying the woodland. For what we paid we can't complain at all and will definitely return. The place needs maintenance but we are in a pandemic and understandably so. The fare made up for it.
We took advantage of the 50% discount, and at that price it was excellent value for money.
New bedding and maintenance must be sorted out.
We had fun without any disturbances.
Had a nice time with my family.
The location was awesome. General maintenance hasn't been done for many years, the place was derelict and they could have done a better job of cleaning the unit.
Facilities are worn and old. Plumbing suboptimal. Musty in showers. Repairs where tiles have not been replaced. Sofa cushions dirty.
Unfriendly staff. Putt-putt lanes neglected. Restaurant was closed. No "game" room. Refrigerators were empty and closed by the pool.
Thaba Monate is a very nice and peaceful getaway place in the bushveld
My second time at the resort and would recommend it for a weekend away.
The silence was incredible. Road is a bit bad, but understandably it is in the mountains. Goats walking between the chalets were wonderful. Nothing bothered them. It is indeed very dry, but believe me after a good rain it will be incredibly beautiful. View from the deck at the chalet was beautiful. Could see the Zipline, as well as goats down in the gorge.
There is a lot of rubbish in the field parts which I find very sad. I think they could really make an effort to clean it up around the chalets and on the hiking trails, but really everywhere, they have wildlife running around in the mess. It's embarrassing that we allow our animals to live in our rubbish.
Problem is the gravel roads. There's a 1 km gravel road to the main entrance. It is very bumpy. And the gravel roads inside the lodge have sharp stones. The lodge is big and beautiful, but the pool side area is very far from the chalets: you have to drive to get there on those gravel roads. The short cut which is the hanging bridge it is closed. Can the lodge please fix the roads inside the lodge and that hanging bridge so that we can walk to the entertainment side.
We understand that it rained pretty much all week, but the grass was a bit long. The ablutions could be cleaner, but otherwise very nice and beautiful.
We understand many places are struggling after Covid and we believe with a little attention and maintenance it can really be a stunning place.
The Rooibokoord is nice, but they have water problems. There was either no water in the showers or very little and the water was cold. The chalets need renovation there were also problems with water there.
Om af te skakel en te rus, is hierdie dié plek.
I enjoyed the place, very nice and I would like to visit again.
We enjoyed our stay and the kids enjoyed they had fun they mad a friend and the warm pool was nice.
Had a great time the Easter weekend. Was very lucky to get a place at the last minute. The included breakfast was a pleasant surprise. Price is very reasonable.
I have experienced lots of good things like seeing animals every morning. Healthy breakfast in the morning and clean pools. Not forgetting the good security which is always on the ground. Bravo for that.
Some facilities need attention and repairs, signs of deterioration although this did not affect our good experience of wildlife and tranquility.
There just needs to be more maintenance done on the place. Staff not the friendliest.
Resort needs some attention especially in terms of maintenance. Shop was expensive. Small Can of Doom R60! Other than that it was delicious. William the security guard in the evenings was friendly and made us feel safe. Emmanual the maintenance officer and also our game ranger were friendly. However, vehicle not safe for 4x4 game drive so open. Especially not with children. Our cleaner Paulina was also friendly and helpful.
On arrival, staff were very friendly and helpful. We stayed in one of their Safari Tents, were very neat and clean, but would recommend adding a kettle and microwave to the tent. Ablution block C is neat, but can be better. The road map of the lodge can be done better and give better indications of where to go etc. To sum it up, it was a great getaway for a weekend and I would recommend to people who love nature and just love going on holiday.
The chalet we stayed in is not properly maintained (thatched roofs need repairs, front door is old and glass is stained by years of sunlight, timber railing needs attention, 3 bulbs were not in working order, kettle was not working). The problem at the resort is general management. The birds in the reception area had no food and one can hardly see the fish in the fish tank it was so dirty.
Plastic and rubbish all over property. Not well kept. No petting zoo as on website. Warm pool lukewarm not heated as on website. Staff not flexible in check in times. Kitchen not stocked well. Our toaster didn't work. It has potential but not worth the money. Need carpet in lounge, floor is cold.
Maintenance of facilities such as putt-putt and tennis courts extremely poor. So many doubles and bushes, children can't walk around barefoot. No heated pool as advertised. Children's slide was only turned on on the Saturday after we had already checked in on the Wednesday. Workers doing repairs around swimming pools made guests feel very uncomfortable while they wanted to swim. Grass around main pool area was long. Fortunately, there was plenty of hot water at the ablution blocks. Cleaning staff were very friendly and ensured that bathrooms and braai facilities were clean at all times.
Management should should take a walk for at least once a week check the conditions of their chalets, its high time aircon is needed not fan.Money we paid !! not equivalent .
Staff not friendly at reception. Feels like they are doing you a favour just to do their jobs.
The drain in the shower was blocked. The maintenance people replaced a geyser in the Bierman chalet as they had no hot water the first night. I asked them to come and unblock the drain. The guy said that he would come back, but he did not. When I spoke to the receptionist, she had no interest in my problem and referred me to CJ and when I spoke to CJ I had about the same reaction. No apologies or anything of the sort. He gave me some story that his maintenance guy's father passed away. Very unprofessional!
The accommodation is good value for money, but unfortunately the lodge is very untidy. Papers are lying everywhere and the place looks very neglected. You pay for an extra vehicle, but do not provide for parking.
Worst stay yet. Broken and weak. Service - what service?
Accommodation is not the money worth, the doors can’t lock and a lot of maintenance is needed on the chalets. If you need assistance the staff are not willing to help, they rather relax at the pool while you wait at the chalet for assistance. Litter everywhere around the chalets and around the reserve.
The day of arrival it rained the previous day, braai at our stand was full of water, had to call 4 times and 2 times asked the man working for a braai. Only at 18:00 did we receive a braai after saying we were going to fire on their grass, with small children not working for a man. The ablution is very dirty and old, the other ablution is nice and clean, but the one we stood for can rest or repair them, can't think they want to shower or shower their guests there. The neat ablution is too far you have to drive to them, it's not within walking distance.
The staff are friendly and helpful. The facilities are clean, in the residence and also at the offices. It's the perfect place to rest, in nature, no rest disturbance. There is a very nice game drive that I would definitely recommend. The people have a relationship with the animals, it's not just a few wild animals walking around for their own pleasure. They are looked after and well fed. I will definitely go back again. Excellent holiday accommodation!
Will recommend you with the highest praise. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Thank you Thaba Monate for a fantastic break.
I would highly recommend the place, service is great, accommodation was great and the facilities were more than enough. Service to the guests is by far better than most resorts and I am already planning my next holiday, again at Thaba Monate. Great team and great place.
We had a wonderful stay with friendly and helpful staff at a very good rate! You will see us again soon.
Very nice stay, very peaceful and quiet. People are friendly and hospitable.
Can not wait to go back.
Clean chalet and wonderfully quiet at night. Staff at reception, in restaurant and security extremely friendly and helpful! Highlight was a ride in the field with Wicus the guide, had a lovely chat with him. Thank you all!
Pity game viewing not possible in private sedan vehicles. Access into chalets very difficult for the elderly. So were pleased to be upgraded to another chalet with easy access at no extra cost. Also would have liked to be informed of pool renovations before making payment.
On arrival everything was very good. Als is clean and neatly maintained. Animals on the premises are well cared for. We were there out of season and by Sunday afternoon it was as if we had been forgotten. Every time someone saw us, we were asked if we were on our way, even though we had booked until Tuesday. Restaurant was not open again. Water slide was not on again. Couldn't book a game drive. Service was just no longer available. Just kept hearing from reception that they would get back to us. Just a shame they didn't tell us ahead of time that it was going to be like that.
Beautifully located place in the beautiful nature that offers peace and quiet (we were there for a midweek) and most units are far enough from each other to be nice and private. Unfortunately our gas water heater wouldn't work the first night and we had to go to bed in the middle of winter without a hot bath. It was repaired the next morning. Restaurant facilities on the premises that we relied on and as advertised were not available during our stay and we were forced to drive to Warmbad for a few meals. Little things here and there need maintenance, but despite everything that hit us, we would love to go again.
Was great and the children enjoyed it.
We enjoyed our stay so much. You get the feeling that you are in the bush away from the city noises. The food was so nice and the place was very clean. The staff was friendly and helpful so we really enjoyed out stay.
Had a wonderful time in the forest. The safari tent was clean and the ablution facilities were clean. However, the whole resort is a little tired and in need of attention.
Very sloppy at braai area and outside chalets, inside reasonable, staff poor and not at all up to standard, site at swimming pools very sloppy. Resort can be good but management needs a lot of attention.
Reception was pathetic! Sis please learn how to work with people and not argue with the guests right from the start. R200 per extra vehicle is ridiculous. If you stay in a 6 bed chalet, the chances are good that it will be at least 2 vehicles, few people drive vans. The inventory is to cry about. There are so few in the chalet that are on the list and if you inquire, Sussie tells you the place is fully booked and they have no extra. Again, you can't cook for 6 people in a 2 liter jar, come on! Thank goodness we took our own toilet paper, because half a roll in each bathroom for 4 days is just too little. Upon check out I was told I would have my deposit back within 10 days. It's 3 weeks later and I'm still waiting. The place was left in better condition than we found it. I will never go back again! I wouldn't recommend the place to people either! All that was plausible, and going a little extra mile, is the young lady who was at the restaurant.
The reception was very poor, we had to wait more than an hour for them to get their paper work in order, we were the only ones in reception at that moment. The swimming facilities were overcrowded and too few for the number of people there and the place was not even fully booked. The shop could not keep up with ice and the bar by the swimming pool which is like 15 meters from the shop, the prices on ice were R5 a bag more than it is not at the shop. Our barbecue was not cleaned for the first few days and neither was our trash, we did it ourselves until I told the one cleaner about it. The campsite itself was very nice and nice, but as for the rest of the amenities that can't keep up, I believe we'll just pass by here next time.
Very weak! Neglected. Staff is good.
Thaba Monate Game Lodge could be a much better lodge if some maintenance was not done. We camped and pitches are very comfortable, it's just a shame about the following: The hot pool was very dirty and very small to accommodate all the people. The putt-putt courses are dirty and then you still pay to play there. There is no security at the resort and all the rules of eating and drinking in the swimming pools disappear due to a lack of security. The water at the ablution block disappears after 1 min and then you stand under the shower without water. In the mornings and in the evenings there is no toilet paper in the toilets. The female cleaners just walk into the men's toilets as they see fit. There are far too few bins on the campsite. There is mold on the bathroom floor. The water sprays everywhere except in the bath when you turn on the tap. There are no plugs everywhere in the bathrooms. The faucets in the bathroom are loose. I will never again waste my money like that to visit the place. Very disappointing.
It was the most wonderful getaway.
Wonderful experience, very wild and everything is so neat and clean. Will definitely visit again.
We had such a nice stay. We will definitely go back again.
Safe place to visit with friends or family. Staff was friendly and place was nice and clean. View of the walking tour was safe and worked nice calves. Definitely a places to go again.
Neat resort with lovely hiking trails. The chalets are not too close together and there is enough space in between to ensure absolute privacy.
We enjoyed our stay it is an excellent place to visit and it is quite to relax. Winter months is to cold there.
Keep it up, you guys rock! From the security, reception to the bar.
5-star treatment, staff and everyone so friendly.
An excellent place to break away from the rush. We will recommend the place to everybody that likes nature and interaction with animals. The nyalas are so tame that they walk between the tents and in the caravan park amongst the visitors. The friendly and very capable staff is a big asset and made us feel at home. There is also a kiosk where food and fresh produce can be bought and the swimming pools are located well and very well looked after.
We stayed in the Safari tents, everything is great, except when I wanted to book again, they said there is only one Safari tent available. Would have been nice if there were more. Als was great apart from their breakfast, we were offered the same as for the people staying in the Chalets, for R60-00 per head you get margarine (no real butter), and mushrooms mixed with some "cheap thickener" , and the woman who scooped us up only gave each of us two small potato chips, one cherry tomato (cut in half), and two pieces of bacon. And you get Ricoffy for coffee and "Jannie birthday mix" soda for fruit juice, not even talking about the "long life" milk. For us, the breakfast was a disappointment and not worth it at all. If you go there, make your own food. Other than that it was very good value for money.
On arrival the reception was good. Restaurant and bar service is of quality. Residential unit needs some renovation work such as e.g. shower leaking water on master bedroom bed. No bathroom mats were provided as indicated on the inventory list as well as a garbage can in the master bedroom. Housing unit is spacious enough for number of persons it can accommodate. Braai area at unit is well equipped. Nice visiting area. Will definitely visit Thaba Monate Game lodge again.
We liked the caravan park even though we were the only people staying there most of the time. We never felt unsafe or threatened. We left our stuff there for a few weekends and came back to find everything was great. I did feel that the ablutions should be cleaned on a regular basis, which did not happen while we were there.
Stayed in the chalet. It was very clean and had all the facilities you need. The facilities are great. Resort is well maintained.
Thaba Monate is in a quite environment, away from all of the noise and I can recommend it to travellers.
Tranquil breakaway in nature.
The accommodation was excellent and very beautiful. I think they can improve the pool area and keep the area cleaner. There is potential to do a lot more there. I also don't think it's appropriate for people to sit and drink in the pools.
Rooibuck maybe 10, nyala maybe 4, kudu maybe 5, 2 giraffes. Only rocks and rocks and rocks. Beautiful area with lots of natural trees. Friendly staff. Clean.
Lovely relaxed environment. Unfortunately, reception was unaware of our arrival on Monday, September 4 but they handled it well and dealt with it. At first it was not a good feeling, we felt uncomfortable and out of place but then our tent was ready within a half an hour. Problem sorted out. No further problems.
Enjoyed the time to chill.
We had a nice stay but the resort needs a lot of upgrades especially for the price we paid (campsite).
Not accommodating at all.
The place to be when you want to surrounded by nature.
Thaba Monate is a resort with a lot of potential. The resort is not maintained at all. The chalets are neat but need upgrading. Furniture is old. The chalet is cleaned on a daily basis but we had to wait until after 1pm every day for them to clean. On Saturday they didn't come to clean until 15:00 after we called the reception. Our chalet did not have a broom and I asked twice for one which I did not receive. Trash can inside the chalet is broken, the chalet was not very clean either.
Our chalet was very dirty upon our arrival. Even the dish towels in the kitchen were dirty (luckily we took our own and were able to use them). The chalet also couldn't lock very well, which made us very nervous, but we managed to get it locked later with a lot of difficulty. Staff are extremely unfriendly, especially the lady at reception. Our game drive was also a mess, the vehicle stalled and the driver had no way of letting anyone know to come pick us up, one of us then used our own cell phones to look for help. We will not go there again. It's such a shame, because it's an awfully beautiful place.
Many flies at bar and restaurant due to wild animal cages just behind the buildings. There is smoking in the bar counter area?! Very weak. Definitely wouldn't want to eat there again.
Thank you for Travelground.com's service. It was excellent. Thaba Monate is lovely with clean amenities and the staff so helpful and friendly. We sent photographs to our children overseas and they were just as impressed. We will definitely return.
Awesome place, fantastic staff, willing to help, people really friendly.
You really have to book more than just a weekend. Relaxing and tidy.
Very good service from friendly staff. Area and ablutions clean. Will go again.
