Not far from Bela-Bela, on the road to Alma, lies Thandile Country Lodge, with host Kobus and hostess Magdel, a dozen loose horses with each their own story, geese and dogs, greenery, a natural swimming pool in the dam, on the edge of nature. A wonderful peaceful place, where the night is still dark. For the golf lovers: Elements Golf Course (SA no. 14) is a 20-minute drive away (Friday and Saturday busy, the other days of the week: quiet).
We had a very nice stay once we got over the initial 'shock'. A lot of renovation work still needs to be done and the general feeling is 'neglect'. Forest house where we stayed was clean and very well equipped with a nice view, but no mention of the one single bed mattress. It's not suitable for an adult. Host would surely have changed the mattress if we had complained about it; we didn't raise it because our stay was only for 2 nights. Host and wife and workers very friendly and pleasant. We really enjoyed the farm pond experience. The 'pond' is clean and well located. It was a nice experience, but we wouldn't necessarily choose to go back.
The unit wasn't in good condition for guests. Kitchen units were broken, stoves weren't working properly. Toilets were dirty. Walls full of spiderwebs. Bedroom wasn't clean.
The owners were very friendly and always attentive and met all our requests.
Thandile Country Lodge looked awesome on website but it was even better when we arrived. We have been travelling now for quite a while and so I booked the Romantic Room for us for a treat. The bed was super comfortable and the bathtub made me feel like a queen! But the best part of it all was waking up to find a zebra very near our stoep and horses just very gently making their way around the property. Magdel and Cobus were also fabulous. Highly recommended, especially if you are an animal lover.
We stayed in the rustic cabin by the river and although there were some problems with the gas supply to the geyser it was sorted out quickly. Some improvements can be made around the undercover braai area because it was wet when it rained. Owner is aware of it and promised to do it.
Nice rustic farm life, not much to do but you rest well and the children can play in the field and water. Service is good and the staff are happy to help. Unfortunately, the 3 dams are not suitable for fishing and must be stated as such on the website. Furthermore, a very nice place for a break if you like a rustic place.
Although our visit was nice and quiet and clean, we will not necessarily use Thandile country lodge again! One can see that Covid has taken its toll on the lodge! On website's e.g. there is air conditioning in the rooms, however there are only fans! Photos on website very attractive and beautiful, but the lodge is not maintained with what photos reflect! Restaurant is currently closed due to Covid, but is e.g. just left and never kept clean! There was room service every day with hot water and internet! Website says there is a swimming pool, but doesn't show any photos of it, it's a farm dam swimming pool, but I can say it was clean at least! Post atmosphere at its best!
No cell phone reception, no WiFi, no TV, very poor kitchen facilities, not even ice on the premises, we couldn't wait for it to get light to drive. The place is in a very poor condition, not value for money at all. Would not recommend it at all.

From the moment we arrived at Thandile's until we left the hospitality was absolutely fantastic. The tranquility of the surroundings let us relax a bit from all the city bustle. It's really worth it and Thandile will definitely see us again. Thank you very much for all your kindness!
The perfect place for a quick getaway from the city. The horse ride was also wonderful, the horses are calm which makes an amateur comfortable.
My husband and I needed to just wind down after a busy time in our lives. Waking up in the morning with only the birds' "chatter" reaching our ears was healing. The house is very tidy and there is everything you need in terms of kitchenware and linen. If your tired tired this is the place to go.
We really enjoyed the time. The rooms were spacious and very clean. The experience is very rustic and it just feels like we were on a farm. There are many animals and our young children really enjoyed the horse ride and swimming pool. If you don't like dogs I would not recommend the Thandile lodge. Animals are part of the presentation.

Unique experience in a tent house. Friendly reception. Unfortunately very noisy guests in the cottage behind us, management did nothing to quiet them down. Sewage tank close to our cottage; malodorous odors frequently bothered.
Very disappointing. Photos on web page are by no means what you get in reality. It's a scam. No swimming pool. All under construction? Saturday evening it started to rain and the wind literally blew through the place.
Thank you very much for the very peaceful stay. The horses (and giraffes) walking around the yard were terrific and created a very relaxing atmosphere. The veranda was definitely a winner for us to just sit and rest and watch the animals. It was nice for us to have the dogs with us because we are used to Jack Russels. It was also nice for me to drive around on the mountain and experience absolute silence. Thank you to all the friendly staff. You are winners.

The place is good for family visits.
The rooms and bathrooms are beautiful and there were more than enough space for our group of 21. We enjoyed swimming and there were horses on which the kids could take guided rides. Wonderful shade trees and barbecue facilities. The big fire that was lit in the boma for the guests was a hit and we could sit outside until late at night.
The service was very good and the facilities adequate. We really enjoyed our stay.

We really enjoyed the tranquility of Thandile. There was opportunity to relax, enjoy nature and put our table tennis and "pool" skills to the test. A highlight was the horse ride and sitting around the campfire. Cobus, Magdel and Hunter go out of their way to make your stay comfortable. Would recommend for a weekend.
Nice break for a weekend around the corner. Peace of mind and peace. My 8 year old daughter really enjoyed the dogs and horse riding. There is a lot to do for the children. Dad and Mom can have fun with each other for a change! The owners were very friendly and hospitable. The dinners and breakfasts we ordered were delicious! We will definitely visit again in the near future!
We had an amazing time out. The guest house is very tastefully designed and offers privacy to the guest. The property vast landscape which make it easy to connect and recharge. Horse ridding was the best offer. Their WiFi connection also assist in connecting with outside world.
Thandile is a getaway to a quiet farm with horses, warthogs, one giraffe and one zebra, as well as ducks on the ponds. The people are very nice and make you feel at home.

The gravel road towards the Lodge would definitely pull your vehicle from alignment. It's just not meant for small vehicles and I wish were notified about it. The gate is a struggle to open and close especially if you are coming and going since there is no one to operate it. The swimming pool situation is an inconvenience since its far from the lodge and in the very hot sun.

I would recommend Thandile Country Lodge for the surrounding and if you want peace and quiet away from the city. The animals were a delight. However the road up to the Lodge really needs to be tarred as it is not favourable for small cars. I thought my engine was going to fall out as I was driving to the Lodge. The gate was not working. It would be great if the owners could put a note up to alert guest that the gate does not work and they need to open for themselves. The room was misleading, I booked a room for 2 adults and a child. I was under the assumption that I was going to get a room with a single bed for my daughter but instead she had to sleep on a sleeper couch which was not comfortable. The couch was also not clean the fabric was dirty. The room was very dusty that could be attributed to the surroundings. The breakfast and braai was very expensive. The restaurant is only operational if you tell the owners in advance that you need something. I think it should not be called a restaurant. The other highlights that made up for the above is the bonfire place where you could braai your own meals. The fridge in the little kitchen was a problem as it had a very bad smell and in the Limpopo heat it was not a pleasant smell to deal with.
Got there that evening in the dark. Signage not very clear from main road and drove past.
Us city mouses always seek a peaceful farm life. Thandile offers everything and more. The beauty of nature, interesting owner, five-star cottage on the farm with lots to do! Will cure any tiredness!
The farm is well located. We were warmly welcomed by Magdel and Cobus. They gave us good advice to enjoy our stay. For our daughters, it was nice to be so close to horses, zebra and giraffes. At night, we had the feeling to be in the middle of nature. Dinner and food is good.
The Hosts and staff were friendly, quiet and very peaceful place, they made sure we settled in and were available for any requests. The history around the place was one of the things that attracted me the most but I have to say it was a great and beautiful weekend for us, we are definitely going back soon. Nothing beats waking up to the sound of nature.
