The animals were right at our chalet every night and we took lots of pictures. The two jackies were also very friendly and welcomed us to the Marakele excursion every afternoon with great cheer.
We had a very nice stay, so in the Bosveld. Just a note: air conditioning is not in the bedroom, only in the living area section. Maybe just pack an extra fan for the bedroom.

Perfectly located, animals right on your doorstep. Abel is a great host. Waterbok chalet could do with an egg pan and spatula. Other than that, everything was 100%.
It is wonderfully peaceful and cozy, a place that everyone should experience. We will go again. It's delicious.
This place gets a perfect 5 out of 5 from me. You'll encounter a gravel road of about 3 kilometers to reach it, but a normal vehicle can handle it. It suited our plans perfectly during our stay. Host was exceptionally friendly and always ready to meet our needs. One area for improvement is the WiFi around the pool area, which isn't ideal for full browsing but works fine for quick messaging like WhatsApp. However, cell phone reception is generally poor elsewhere.
The host is very friendly and helpful. It is incredibly beautiful there. The places are clean and tidy. The best part was the animals standing and eating barely 100 meters away. It's so peaceful there, definitely a place to recharge. Will definitely use the lodge again if we are in the area.
It took us two years to visit there due to the fact that we had another fixed place to visit. Only now realize what we missed. You will hardly find a more beautiful natural environment in other places, it is woodland at its best. There is also a wide choice of chalets that you can choose from according to your needs, each fully equipped. Then there is also your host, who goes out of his way to assist you and will go the extra mile for you. See you again in March 2025!

We had a great time during our stay. The house was well equipped and the kids loved being able to explore. The house was right by where the animals were fed every day, so we got to see all the different game the farm had. We have been here before and will definitely visit again.

Thanizimbi game farm is amazing. We were received with warm hands by Abel, who is down to earth. His place is quite tranquil day and night. You can see a lot of animals on the farm and it's a good spot for praying in the bush. I would recommend this place to anyone who would like to stay there. Very nice. The staff, especially Abel and Tokka, were particularly helpful. Small things, e.g. very poor flow of cold water in the kitchen, closet door that doesn't close, and no mirror in the bedroom got in the way. Attention should be given to blinders who are tearing. The atmosphere of tranquility and the beautiful wildlife was incredible.
Nice stay. Only complaint was not being able to take a shower as one faucet was unusable and no hot water.
Was very calm, thank you. Clean unit with everything needed. We forgot salt and pepper, but they were soon given to us by the host. Ice and wood are also free! Only comment is that there are a lot of flies, but remember it's Africa! The dirt road from Rooiberg (we had to drive a bit from the junction from Alma) is rough, but Abel warned me. I think there are about 4 fillings loose this morning!
Was looking forward to a quiet bushveld weekend. What a disappointment. Loud music and partying until the early hours of the morning. Rules say no loud music after 10 o'clock in the evening, but this is not enforced.
The weather was lovely and not too hot. It was very easy to find the farm. After the wave in the morning on Tabazimbi, at least it's not too far out of town, so the location is ideal. Swimming pool was a pleasure, kitchen and chalet very comfortable, and braai area is nicely sheltered from the wind. You will definitely see us again soon. Thank you for your hospitality.
Definitely recommend for people who love wildlife and field. Special place with very nice host. Thank you Abel for your hospitality and help. Took 3 puppies with us and they were free to roam everywhere with us. It was very special to be able to experience animals so close. Dog children were amazed by the animals and we laughed several times at their actions. What a privilege to be there!

Our stay at Thani Zimbi Game Farm truly restored peace to our souls. We walked for over 3 hours on Saturday and were truly blessed by the beautiful, peaceful bushveld and many game sightings. We relaxed by the fire pit next door and enjoyed watching the game and birds come for breakfast and dinner. Accommodation was clean and neat, however, it was not so well equipped. There was no pan to fry eggs in, nor were there batteries in the aircon remote. The outside lights had no globes in them so we had to make a plan for light by the braai. Other than those few issues Abel met us on arrival with a welcoming smile and assisted us to our chalet. All in all, I would rate our weekend experience a 9/10. And we will definitely be going back soon.
Abel is a great host and helped us a lot with our booking. The resort is in the mountains north of Thabazimbi. It was very dry and the mobile networks are weak, but at least the resort's WiFi helps in certain places. There is a variety of wildlife that can be seen from your front porch and there are hiking trails that can be followed, although it was very hot.

The scenery and surroundings are incredibly beautiful. We were there for a weekend. Fireplace at night is an incredible experience. The houses are beautiful, modern and well equipped. It's very clean and tidy. Included was DStv and WiFi. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We will definitely stay there again.

The cottage was spacious, with comfortable furniture, a waterhole nearby, where game gets fed in winter.
Abel was very patient with our booking which had to be adjusted a few times. Thank you very much for that! It's a beautiful place, and we have warthogs, quite a few goats (of which I can't remember the kind now), but the most special thing is, the morning after we left, we saw 4 giraffes right by our vehicle wash! It was absolutely wonderful for us! The sunset was beautiful, the cottages have everything one needs and the peace and quiet is nice. We will definitely go to Thanizimbi again.
The feeding of the animals at 16h00 every afternoon was a highlight and it was wonderful to see them up close. Abel is very nice, although we only saw him when we arrived. The workers on the farm are friendly and helpful. The wood we were able to buy was fine and we thoroughly enjoyed every night's barbecue. In the evenings we heard the lions roaring and this only added to the wonderful woodland atmosphere. Here you can rest. forget about everything and just be.
The bedding mattresses and blinds have been done and aged. The interior is very old fashioned and there are cockroaches in the kitchen and bathrooms. We did have a good time and received good service.

Comfortable accommodation in a lovely setting. The feeding of many of the reserve's warthogs at 4pm over the weekend was incredible. We saw more wildlife sitting by the pond than we did in 3 hours of driving around Marakele National Park. With the heatwave it was nice to have an aircon in the room. Abel tries very hard to make your stay great.

We had a lovely weekend. Abel was very helpful. We did lovely self-drive game drives on the farm. There is an awful lot of wildlife that we could see right from our braai area. The unit was spacious and clean, with all the kitchen facilities we needed. There is a friendly team of cleaners every morning. Each en-suite bathroom was tidy, with proper toilet paper and bath and shower towels are also provided. Although there is no good mobile phone signal, there is sufficient Wi-Fi at the pool for communication.
The farm is in a beautiful and peaceful area. Animals are abundant and very beautiful. Residential units are spacious and comfortable. Truly a beautiful place! Maintenance of the units should be slightly improved as this is the only inconvenience of the visit. Some lights, the DSTV and the shower did not work, and sheets and beds in our unit were old and thin. However, Abel was very helpful and brought us a new bed from another unit, which was a very big improvement. A perfect getaway when the awkwardness is figured out.
It is a very beautiful place, the gardens offer a lot of potential. Although we lacked nothing in the chalet, the furniture is a bit old and needs some attention. There is virtually no reception, we did get access to WiFi, reception was bad. You just break away for silence and get away from technology.
It was a very peaceful time. If you want to rest and get away from the city's busy life, this is a very nice getaway.

From the moment we got there to the day we had to drive it was one incredible experience. Abel sent clear road directions before our arrival, which helped a lot. There are several hiking trails and to explore the farm you have Bubbles or Brandy, the cutest 2 Jack Russels to accompany you. We celebrated my Dad's 70th birthday here. We were 21 people and rented more than one chalet. Everything was very well appointed and clean. We had a lot of fun hanging out around the boma in the evenings and on the stoep during the day. Will definitely be back for another visit.

Thanizimbi is a stunning game farm far away from the hustle and bustle of the city. We were pleasantly surprised to be in the bush and yet still have some of the comforts of home for the kids. We had a wonderful time at Thanizimbi, and will definitely be back in the future.

This is such a beautiful farm! We were 16 people in one house - it was spacious and yet everyone could have fun together. Clean, tidy and excellent service from Abel. The wildlife comes walking near and around the house. Would recommend it for sure. Hope to go again soon.

This was our second visit to Thanizimbe and once again we thoroughly enjoyed it. The variety of wildlife that is literally at the back door of one's cottage is just fantastic (including giraffes, warthogs, moose, kudus, waterbucks, nyalas, squirrels, ostriches, zebras, blue wildebeests and golden wildebeests, impalas, hornbills). We lived in Gemsbok and my parents in Waterbok. Last time we were in the Lion unit. All three units are wonderfully equipped. However, Gemsbok is our favorite because it is a bit secluded from the busy pool area and you have all the animals on your back porch. We were also able to enjoy stargazing in our boma. The view of the mountains and beautiful sunsets across the dam make Thanizimbe any nature lover's dream. Abel also goes out of his way to make you feel at home and went to great lengths with our little boy, who is absolutely obsessed with pressure pumps and showed him around the workshop area. We appreciate the extra mile he goes for visitors.

Abel keeps you informed of your booking, gives excellent directions and goes out of his way to make your visit as easy and comfortable as possible. Then there is the view over the plain and water hole where all the animals come to drink at one time or another. However, remember your bathing and swimming habits. Wood can be bought, but the first bag is free, as well as flash and other small things and black pots are also available for use.

Cleanliness could definitely be worked on. Bathroom mats need to be washed after every customer. Didn't look like they had been washed in a very long time. There were a few things here and there that weren't clean. I would expect a pan to be standard in any place, but we managed. Other than that it was great. I would definitely stay there again.

For a house that can handle large get all, the saucepans are insufficient. I would also like to use toaster. Also repair fridge at bar area because fridge is inadequate.
This was our second time at Thanizimbi. Reception is friendly, chalets are clean and tidy.
The only problem is there were no Bath towels supplied and they did not indicate in any of the emails that we had to bring our own. No dish towels or dishwashing soap. No air freshener either in the bathroom.
The staff especially Abel very friendly and helpful. The chalet was very clean and all the utensils were there. The premises are well maintained. The animals come right up to your doorstep. A good platform to ride from to the other does well in and on Thabazimbi. Really enjoyed it, will definitely go back again.
We are still waiting to see the manager, who never arrived. A worker took us to our unit, which had not been cleaned or prepared in any way. The furnishings and fittings are well overdue for refurbishment and the unit was dirty. We had to ask for towels, there were very few implements in the kitchen, no dish cloths etc.

Highly recommend this place. It was so peaceful. Lots of lovely early morning and late evening walks, pool was clean and refreshing, our chalet had everything we needed. At night we sat outside and looked at the stars and listened to the wildlife around us. Our bush walks were amazing, you never knew what was around the corner, giraffe, impala, zebra etc. The best part though, was the 24 hour security accompanying us - a Jack Russel called Brandy!

Little things that can make it great. Tables, walls and tiles that are loose must be fixed. Larger shower heads will be more convenient. Lighting at the boma and on the fire area must be put in. Got very good service and they also planned to provide us with light. Waterblock's shower is suitable for a wheelchair, but if the stairs to the boma can turn into a disaster it will be even better. The stay was amazing, the owner was very welcoming and allowed us to have fun without restricting us too much, but we knew that we had to also respect him and the property. I would definitely recommend this place to a lot of people.
Accommodation is fantastically located near Marakele. We saw more wildlife at Thanizimbi than at Marakele and it was wonderful to drive through the farm ourselves. Accommodation is clean and tidy although we were not aware of the fact that the accommodation was without towels, dish soap, drying cloths and the basic items that one usually receives as part of self-catering accommodation. So it was difficult with small children without the basics. The shower head can also be upgraded. Hardly any water comes out. There are also no outside lights at the braai area. We will definitely visit again although we will be more prepared then. Enjoyed it a lot.

We were there for ten nights. The day of our arrival we were welcomed by Abel who is a wonderful person who welcomed us with hospitality. The houses are very clean and tidy and the gardens and grass very tidy. The pool very clean.

We were 22 people with friends, families and kids. We came to spend 2 nights on the 18th of October 2019 on a hot summer's day. The cool weather inside never gave us a feeling of intense heat outside. We stayed in 5 chalets and all the chalets had fans and 3 chalets had air conditioning. The kitchen was full with all the necessary pots and pans and more. Abel is a very helpful host and does not leave you with any option for complaint. Whatever we lacked, was immediately arranged by him from nearby stores. The game farm has plenty of animals moving around your chalets which include giraffe, zebra, kudu, nyala, water-bucks, springbok, warthog and a lot of birds, to name a few. It's surely a place to visit again. Loved it.
We have not found the hospitality anywhere else. It is an incredibly beautiful game lodge and beautiful chalets. It was so fantastic to see the wildlife grazing between the chalets. The game was fed at 4 o'clock in the afternoon behind our chalet.

Wow, I didn't know what to expect when I booked Thanizimbi. As a fearless and dedicated researcher, the information I found online about this treasure of a place, did not satisfy me. However, I went with the mindset of, just do it. And boy! Am I glad we did. About 4 hours from Johanneburg (shortcut is a bad gravel road ─ not recommended due to huge rainfall), we took our children off on an adventure. Arriving in Thabazimbi, we realised we had no actual directions to get to the farm (left on the kitchen table). A quick call to Abel ensured a solid set of WhatsApp messages, sent immediately to us. 15 mins from Thabazimbi Central and we arrived. We were welcomed by a couple of impala, a springbuck and a curious giraffe ─ always impressive. A beautiful spot, with a fire pit, a welcoming pool, and the gem of a host, Abel. With game drives, a huge lapa, a fishing dam, wonderful families and a safe spot for our children to roam, we had the very best time. Abel and his son were consummate hosts. Would I recommend Thanizimbi? Absolutely. Would I go back there? I'm already looking for a free weekend. Key points I should mention: No cell phone signal (which was wonderful). The pool isn't covered with a net, but somehow the kids (and there were tiny ones), rode their bikes on the pathways. Bring bikes. Bring hiking boots. Bring fishing rods. Don't bring your own firewood ─ they supply for R40 a bag, and its the best wood!

Ideally suited as a starting point for the Marakele National Park. Problemlose Kommunikation mit Abel, der währen unseres Aufenthalts auf der Farm unser freundlicher und herzlicher Gastgeber war. From Abel one can learn a lot about life on this beautiful farm and about the numerous animals. Wer ein naturnahes Erlebnis sucht in einer sehr schönen Landschaft und grosszügigen Gastgeber, wird here a few erlebnisreiche Tage geniessen können. Selbstversorger kaufen am besten in Thabazimbi ein, dass ca. Half a hour away lies. Auf der Farm gibt es natürlich Grillmöglichkeiten und in jedem Haus komplett ausstattete Küchen. WiFi and mobile phone access is still being worked on and currently a booster is installed.
What an awesome post. The house is enormous with everything a woman needs, even a rolling pin (I brought one from my house and sometimes it was free). The tranquility, the view from the pond and braai area are fantastic. Of course very hot, but just before you melt you dive into the pool. Abel is a true host. We could even have used his van for the game drives. Thank you very much for a wonderful, relaxing weekend. Now the field and the animals only need the rain.

The staff are friendly and very helpful. The staff kept the teenage boys busy. The chalets are neat and clean. The relaxation helped us to recharge our batteries in the midst of the exams.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you Abel for the speedy responses to all my queries raised during the booking process, the directions to the Farm, etc. I really appreciated it! The property owners were absolutely amazing and made us feel quite at home. Sam and the other employees were all friendly and extremely helpful. One downside for us, was the massive creepy crawlies. I've never physically seen such huge spiders before, but then again it's farm living after all and that can be expected. We’ll definitely be back in the near future (well-armed for the spiders) and to take a game drive through the beautiful farm.
It was great to get away from the city's noise. Just plan your meals, otherwise you will have to drive a long way to town. If you want peace and quiet, this is the place!

The accommodation was basic but adequate. Needs a bit of TLC. Bedside lamps and lighting needed bulbs. Self catering, but no toaster for breakfast toast. No cleaning services offered. No phone signal in the area, and no Wi-Fi. Hosts were very friendly and helpful.

Very friendly hosts, can't do enough to meet and exceed your requirements. Thoroughly enjoyed our time at Thanizimbi. Accommodation spacious and lovely. I was on crutches and the hosts could not do enough to make my stay as comfortable as possible. Will recommend to all.

The heat got us down a bit in the evenings with the aircon not working in the main house. Extra fans would be recommended in the rooms. But the lovely swimming pool let us cool off and everyone enjoyed themselves. Beautiful surroundings and wildlife. Felt very safe at all times. The kitchen was very well equipped with plenty of cutlery for a large group of people. Thank you, we had a great time.
