31 guests' feedbackLovely getaway close to home. Would feel safer with WiFi and had to miss the Springboks game, but altogether a quiet, romantic stay. Thank you.
This was our second stay in what I call "a little piece of heaven". If you need to switch off with no access to any communications or electronic devices, look no further.
Our stay was idyllic. The location is one of the best I have experienced in the country, and the attention to detail to maintain a sense of peace and privacy, while providing fabulous outdoor amenities, was exceptional. The cottage was well-equipped, comfortable, and charming. I loved swimming in the dam, and my family enjoyed fishing. The customer service was outstanding. I forgot some of my clothes and jewelry, and they were promptly returned to me via courier, with my offer of reimbursement for costs waived as a favor. I will return to the accommodation at the first opportunity.
Absolutely stunning accommodation built on water, surrounded by beautiful nature. This is a perfect place to reconnect with your loved ones and nature and enjoy peace, relaxation and tranquillity. We absolutely loved the rowing boat! The accommodation is well equipped and spacious with an amazing outside area. The glass patio is also stunning! I'd recommend this place to anyone; young, old, as a couple and as a family.
Quiet environment.
We had a wonderful stay. We would have appreciated it if the hostess/gentleman had unpacked after us and examined everything, welcomed us. They order e.g. that you must let us know if you want to use cleaning service. How? There is no reception of any kind. We didn't have enough toilet paper. The master bedroom's shower leaked down onto the enclosed porch. For the price of the housing, they can provide enough wood for free. Otherwise everything was great.
Everything 100% in working condition, beautiful place. Road just very bad! No reception for mobile phones. Will visit again.
Such beautiful scenery.
Ideal bass fishing lodge.
A wonderful home for those who love nature, tranquillity, solitude and fishing. A cosy house, with a beautiful deck where you can spend not only sunny days but evenings around the boma. We spent an absolutely wonderful time there alone with nature.
The cottage was breathtakingly beautiful. The loveliest place I have ever stayed in.
Beautiful surroundings and beautiful house. Well equipped and clean. Have fun fishing and go hiking in the mountains. Second time we've been there and will always come back. Thank you so much Smith family.
Dankie, sal weer besoek.
Thatcher's Rest is an amazing place, we have so much fun in an upmarket establishment and although the weather was not conducive to fishing, there was so much else to do. What a cosy double story thatch house on the dam. Will return tomorrow if I could.
From our arrival to departure it was an unforgettable experience. The environment is beautiful, peaceful and very neat. Decor of Thatcher's Rest is stylish and of excellent quality. We could relax and have a good rest. The dam is on your doorstep and mountains around you, very beautiful nature. Food for the soul. We will come again for sure. Thanks to everyone who made it so special.
Beautiful surroundings. Silence is breathtaking. Neat, very fully equipped cottage. Absolute feast to be able to stay there. What you booked is what you got.
Everything you need to relax and enjoy nature can be found here. Good value for money.
Thatcher's Rest is just the right place to break away from the busy city. The house is fully equipped with everything you need. We really enjoyed it and will definitely go back again. June and John, thank you very much for being such great hosts and for sharing your piece of heaven on earth with us. We look forward to visiting again very soon.
So clean and very well equipped. It is so quiet and peaceful and we were made to feel very welcome and comfortable.
Incredibly beautiful and peaceful. Very friendly service. Very well equipped. Not once was something lacking. To board games. The men enjoyed fishing and boating. Would definitely stay there again. Thank you so much June and family.
We had a lovely stay at Thatcher's Rest and will return in the future.
The venue was absolutely beautiful, and completely relaxing, which is what we were looking for.
Great for the soul. Definitely a piece of heaven on earth and privilege to be able to see it. Can't wait to go again!
Enjoyed weekend at Thatcher's Rest. Beautiful cottage. Everything you need in the cottage is there.
It is one of the most peaceful places one can go, the view from the house is very beautiful and something to appreciate. If you want to see lots of birds and stars you will not be disappointed. We had a great stay and will definitely go again. The pond on which the house is is abundant with bass and trout.
When we arrived we were breathless. Thatchers Rest is really an experience. The cottage has everything one needs for such a blissful getaway weekend. June immediately made us feel welcome and explained everything to us very well. The house looks exactly like the photos, no unpleasant surprises. I would recommend it to anyone anytime. It's really a mind-body-and-soul reset place.
Arriving at Thatchers Rest you start to relax immediately, sitting outside in the boma area and overlooking the dam. The inside of the cottage is great and very comfortable, with all that you need from large mugs for coffee or wine glasses. For electricity you have an automatic generator which works really well so at night you really have some peace and quiet. The large fireplace inside is very nice and we will be back in winter.
This "cottage on the lake" exceeded all our expectations. There is everything from a cozy log fire, to hot water bottles for cold evenings and a rowing boat for the pond! The detail and design of the cottage was done by the owner himself - and the craftsmanship and ingenious layout optimize the incredible natural beauty around you. The feeling and visual effect of literally staying on the water is incredible.
What an incredible time to be able to participate in this piece of "Heaven on Earth". The place is absolutely beautiful! We were received very kindly and were taken to the beautiful place. It is clean, tidy, more than comfortable and very beautiful. We enjoyed the frogs in the evenings, the little hens and geese came to visit near the deck. There was a very large catfish that also came around and Kobus and Michaela had a great time fishing and paddling. We were entertained on Saturday late afternoon by a rib cage and ram that chased each other and jumped up and down with pleasure. Thank you very much for this beautiful place, we will definitely come again.
Most wonderful place for a getaway as a couple or family. Wonderfully secluded! Frog ear and stars you can pick. Lovely experience. Excellent stay!
We spent a lovely 3 days at Thatcher's. Friendly and helpful staff, location in a beautiful area (with a fantastic frog ear!), lovely boma/deck, well equipped. Would love to go again!
