The unit was very unique, clean and spacious with everything needed. We really enjoyed the tranquility. The fireplace for the cold evenings was lovely. A lot of attention and artistry has been given to the unit.

Rather quirky decor, tastefully done, comfortable bed, very relaxing and quiet. Maybe need to have a different plan for the water pump, seems a waste to have to run the generator to ensure guests get water. Gravity not a better option?
Great winter getaway, with plenty of places to sit in the sun or barbecue, visit or make a nice fire outside or inside with a huge fireplace. Close to the town and yet there is the silence and you feel as if you are in the Bosveld.

The accommodation at The Ancient Copper Shed, Sumer as well as Egypt, is unforgettable in the truest sense of the word. It has been furnished with so much care, and of course also very spot on with all the items that have been 'repurposed'. The bedding is luxurious and spotless. The sounds of nature and removal of city noise, together with the close-enough-to-Potchefstroom location, make The Ancient Copper Shed the logical choice when we have to spend the night in this area. You should actually make time to spend a weekend here with friends and family, because there is a safe playground and convenient barbecue areas. Parking is under a canopy and the property is securely fenced.
Thank you very much for a lovely relaxing night with you. Everything you would need for self catering was available. All the old copper in the place is so unique. We will definitely stay here again when we come to Potchefstroom.
A favorite stopover for us as a couple, the Egypt house takes us back in time and is the perfect place to switch off!

Great place to escape with my dogs as it's not that far from JHB. Very interesting decor. Wonderful walks were available in the game park next door and it was special having the animals pass by. The place has all you would need and a lovely outside fire area. The hosts were very attentive. Unfortunately the traffic noise, despite the road being fairly far away could be heard most of the time but not much that a host can do about that. The two cottages share a fenced area, but only one has its own dog fence. It would be the ideal place to book out the whole venue for a weekend of family/friends/dogs and braais. Thank you for everything, we enjoyed it a lot.
Was impressed by the owner sending a WhatsApp before we left with all information about the stay and later sending the load shedding schedule. Unfortunately no wildlife seen, no walking meals as mentioned, paths near the house's grass were long and could not walk there. Had a problem with the shower, can't get the water set, then too cold or too hot, it doesn't stay stable. A shelf in the kitchen to pack groceries would be welcome. Wasn't happy when unexpected guests like brown cockroaches made their appearance in the kitchen every now and then.
The name and house definitely fit together. Many antique and interesting copper items in cottage. Lovely fireplace! Gas geyser maybe a bit small for need of 4 people (especially in winter) and would maybe just prefer a door to bathroom instead of a curtain and maybe blinds/curtains in front of bathroom window at shower. Otherwise, nice stay!
The interior decoration of Egypt is unique and the cottage was clean, tidy and very well equipped. However, during loadshedding there is not a single drop of water in the taps for bathing or showering or flushing the toilet. We were informed a few hours before we arrived that we would have to cater for ourselves. The property does provide 10L of drinking water in a container. Because the toilet's bowl is so high, it is difficult to pour water into the toilet with a container to flush. The outdoor shower advertised in the garden stood out to us over other accommodation options, however this shower is surrounded by long fields of grass and weeds. The outdoor shower and braai area does not feel private, it is only a very short distance from the other cottage, Summer. The view on the porch is a field overgrown with tall weeds. Egypt's cottage is neat, but the braai area, outdoor shower and outdoor spaces could use attention. There are no photos on the ad of the outdoor shower or braai area.

Just a short drive from JHB and you feel like you are so far away from any hustle and bustle! The Ancient Copper Shed's area is so peaceful and the morning visits from the resident cows are a treat. Our smallest dog thought he had met his extended family when meeting and playing with the baby cows, haha. The farm dog Lika is so friendly and precious as well, we really enjoyed her company. Adriaan is a great host, we felt so comfortable during our stay. The Sumer shed is so well equipped with anything you might need, it is kept very clean and tidy as well. The highlight of course is the unique decor inside the shed, the ancient antiques and books kept us intrigued all weekend! The hammock in the picnic area is lovely, it was very relaxing hanging out in the hammock between the trees. The nice big bed is so comfortable and both the inside and outside showers are lovely! This is a gem of a place, we will definitely be going back. Thank you Adriaan and Lika.

It was wonderful to be able to visit so privately and peacefully. The cottage is in very good condition and very uniquely furnished. We were amazed at the creative use of brass and antiques to create the atmosphere. The cards sparked lively discussions. The kudus that stalked us from the other side of the wire made you feel like you were in the wildlife park. We slept great. The bathroom was very unique. Ideal for a family that wants to spend time together. The cottage is outside the town but only about a 15 minute drive from the shops.

The place is very artistically furnished and we experienced the facilities more than adequately.
1. There are no walking "trails" on the property - other than the immediate area around the chalet or along the road back to the main gate. 2. Loadshedding 3 times daily was a major factor - although this is outside the owner's control, it also meant no water during that time (and not being able to flush the toilet ). Having some solar power and an independent water system is recommended. On a positive note, we thoroughly enjoyed the frequent visits by 2 - 5 of the resident 7 dogs and that it was so quiet.
The ornaments were impressive, but very cluttered and the facilities were tedious to use.
What a wonderful experience. The decor is stunning. Everything was comfortable and tidy. The fact that it is only 10 minutes from Potch made it possible to quickly go to town for the essentials we forgot. We saw an awful lot of animals in the game camp. It was wonderful to be in such beautiful, comfortable accommodation in nature, yet only a stone's throw from society.

We were kindly welcomed and given directions and checked in without difficulty. Was pleasantly surprised with all the details of the "rustic" unit. Very neat and it really feels like you're staying in the woods and fields far from everything, it's just around the corner from us (Vanderbijlpark). Beautiful surroundings, neatly maintained and not just the usual amenities and decor. The visiting area is also lovely. We were two friends staying there and I slept in the attic - only minor complaint is that the beds lack headboards to prevent the pillows from losing. You might consider a plan. Would love to go there again. It's a really cute place.

The Egypt Shed is beautiful and extremely well-maintained. The property is also beautiful. The farm dog, Zara, became a good friend, and our 8-year-old cried when saying goodbye to her. The only complaint, and it's a small one - The Shed is a bit too close to Potchestroom - this is only noticeable at night, when one can hear traffic and see the lights of the city. It wasn't enough of a bother to prevent us from wanting to return.

Easy to find destination. All interaction by WhatsApp. Room was very spacious and well kitted out. Loads of unique twists on the use of all sorts of unusual items including furniture and staircase made from books. Kitchen was well set up and we had everything we needed although the fridge is tiny if you have lots of beers. We chose the coldest weekend of this winter and it was freezing, but we sat by the fire and kept warm in a very comfortable bed. Will definitely go back when it's warmer.

One night away with my wife to this amazing destination. Conveniently close to Potch, but the feeling of woodland takes over as soon as you sit on the porch and watch the sun go down. Adriaan's eye for antiques and the detailed copper decorations everywhere in the place are excellent. We lacked absolutely nothing, and it was clear that every possible need of his guests had been thought of. The selections of pickled fruit in the kitchen was a pleasant surprise ─ keep up the good work. Unfortunately it was only available one night during our visit, but we are already planning our next (longer) getaway there. If you are looking for a place where you feel at home as soon as you walk in the front door and appreciate the finer things in life, then this is the place for you.

To book the place is really worth it, there is no TV or WiFi but it is a place to socialise and relax, the braai area is fantastic, everything you need is available. The place is very comfortable, the atmosphere is so peaceful you just want to relax. I'm absolutely crazy about the place, I'm still going to visit a lot. Two little things I want to tell the owner so that he is aware of, is that we struggled to find the place on Google Maps even after he sent the pin location, fortunately we were there before and were able to find the way, we would also like a little more privacy, for example a demarcation between the bathroom and the room because there are now moms and children and so on. We would only recommend 1 thing, that the directions are better laid out and/or a sign goes up on the gate or by the road. Ek het lanklaas 'n plek besoek wat met soveel detail en liefde aanmekaargesit is. Elke hoekie in die cottage het iets besonders, ons het foto's geneem om vir almal te wys maar daar is net te veel amazing goed om op 'n foto vas te lê. The boma was just as nice, spent hours there under the trees. Will go again for sure. The owner and the man who helps him maintain the place are very nice and so helpful! Would recommend anyone to go there if they want to rest.
It was delicious! We rested. We talked and visited. Found each other and ourselves again.
I can proudly say that the friendliness and hospitality are top notch and that the place to stay was worth the money. I can proudly recommend the place as a business, family or getaway location.
One can see that the owner really enjoyed himself when he made the beautiful place. We were kindly received, the accommodation was clean and it felt like we were spending time on a game farm with the goats that grazed nearby. The kids couldn't wait to go to bed and my husband squinted at the old maps that had been turned into blinds. But I don't want to spoil it, go see for yourself.
Thanks for a lovely weekend away. It was really very nice and private. The accommodation is excellent, clean and neat. Would be nice if they could arrange with the neighbours for guests to go on game drives.

Towels are provided for convenience. The kitchen is equipped for self-catering with a gas stove, a microwave, a fridge, ice maker, cutlery and crockery, as well as pots and pans. Guests can relax in the lounge which has a cosy fireplace. Guests can also relax on the verandah. An outdoor warm-water shower is available in the lovely garden, called the Garden of Eden, has a boma and is surrounded by edible herbs. A fenced area is available for pets next to this unit.
Pets are welcome with prior arrangement, and please note that there is a short gravel road leading to The Ancient Copper Shed. The road is maintained and suitable for any sedan vehicle. Wood for the fireplace and boma can be purchased on site.
