The Barracks
-
The Barracks, so named as the property was used as barracks during the Anglo-Boer War, was built in 1851 and substantially renovated in 2004. The original building was soon augmented by the main house as the owner, David Arnot, was a prolific father and needed plenty of accommodation to house his large family.
The comfortable and spacious double rooms, all with private access, have their own bathrooms, each with a bath and separate shower as well as private patios. They are all fully air conditioned to ensure a comfortable stay no matter what the season is. All rooms have TV’s with M-Net /DSTV - Hotel Bouquet.
The dining room is open for breakfast between 06:30 and 08:30 from October to March and between 07:00 and 08:30 from April to September.
There is 1 parking space per room. No trailers, caravans or boats are allowed.

Very nice. Very friendly people.
Very pleasant. Large spacious room. Large separate toilet and shower room. Complete DSTV package. Nice breakfast.
Yes, nice and private and the small porch in front was handy for enjoying my morning coffee. Will stay here again.
We were late because unforeseen circumstances, but the owner was always kind to accommodate us.
The rooms are charming, beds comfortable and water hot. Everything a traveler needs! The optional breakfast was amazing and good value for money.
Very nice stay! Value for money.
Hosts were wonderful. Place neat and clean.
The owners of the accommodation are passionate about their business and have been so for years. Being winter, the room was preheated before arrival by an air conditioner. Upon arrival, the host met and informed me of everything I needed to know. There was a complimentary glass of sherry awaiting. The room was adequately appointed, functional, and cosy. The bed was king size with quality fabrics. The room had DSTV with news, sport, and movie channels. Best of all was a fabulous new shower where the water was hot and the water volume great.
We had a nice stay in a clean and tidy room - delicious hot water and clean towels. Our car was able to park in a safe place and the host was very friendly and made good recommendations for dinner.
We had a great stay, there are only a few things that prevent me from staying there again, among them the arrival time of 9 pm. Everything is locked. The hostess makes it clear that she will no longer be there after 9 pm, and makes no provision for the unforeseen.
No, of the entire holiday in the Cape, in 4 different guesthouses (booked by you), The Barracks was by far the worst.
Slept so well - just the best halfway house.
The accommodation was wonderful and we were impressed with the friendly welcome and helpfulness of the host and hostess. We will definitely stay there again.
Wonderful experience. Best accommodation in Coles.
Michael was extremely friendly and went out of his way to make us feel at home. Our room was immaculate with attention to detail and we had a good night's rest after a long journey. Annalie prepared a delicious English breakfast for us the following morning and we will definitely be back.
Good restaurants in walking distance.
Very friendly reception. Even contacted us on the way to hear how we are progressing. Amenities were excellent would definitely use again!
The host and hostess are beyond friendly and very helpful.
Excellent service and helpfulness.
The hosts create a warm, friendly atmosphere. Although the accommodation is very old, it is comfortable and clean and we had a great stay! Definitely worth it as an overnight destination!
Clean, and well kept. Loved the period decor and history of the place. Breakfast was delicious.
As usual, The Barracks did not disappoint. It still remains a prime accommodation establishment in Colesberg with a winning recipe for overnight travelers and a real Karoolam dinner.
See stars.
The Barracks is a great example of Karoo hospitality. Comfortable rooms, well appointed bathroom and friendly and accommodating hosts. It's within walking distance of some good restaurants, and the next morning you're back on the N1 in just a few minutes.
An interesting old historical building. Mike and Amelia are friendly, attentive hosts. A comfortable, safe stay, great dinner at Inni Kraal down the road and a good breakfast prepared by Amelia.
We stayed here one night on our way from George. Reception was very friendly and helpful. We rested well and enjoyed a very nice breakfast. Highly recommended.
Cute, historic guest house.
The clean white bedding was about the pinnacle of our visit! The bathroom is also clean, tidy and relatively modern. The room smelled like dogs had stayed in it, and it didn't look very clean either. The place is old and tired and will definitely need a few coats of paint to freshen it up. Parking is behind the building, so you have to carry your luggage all the way to your room yourself - this is acceptable for young people like us, but definitely not suitable for older people. The best part of our stay was the excellent restaurant Inni Kraal, about 200m further up the road. It is within walking distance and safe in the evening.
It's the small detail that mattered. We appreciate.
The Barracks is situated at the end of town which allows for a nice tranquil stay. Everything is however still within walking distance and it is very safe to walk to a restaurant at night.
All precautions were taken against the cold, slept nice and warm. Thank you very much for a pleasant evening, we will definitely recommend you.
This is our halfway stop between Gauteng and the Western Cape. The Barracks feels like a home away from home. The reception is always friendly and hospitable. We are contacted on the day we are going to sleep over to make sure what time they can expect us and if there is anything they can prepare for us. Comfortable rooms and excellent service. Will definitely stay there again.
Interesting detail in the bathroom roof. Beautiful little garden.
Had choice of 2 rooms on arrival. Definitely worth it. Will stay there again.
We also loved the short visits from the very friendly Malamute.
Very nice and extremely professional.
Was very comfortable to be able to enjoy a nice dinner there.
It was wonderful to sleep over at The Barracks in Colesberg. The Barracks is clean and tidy. The service very good and the breakfast delicious. Within walking distance of several restaurants. Will definitely visit again.
Accommodation fully met our needs as an overnight accommodation. Reception was friendly and helpful. Accommodation was neat and clean.
We had a great time, only stayed one night but after a long drive it was exactly what we needed. Friendly welcome with a bottle of water and we were right at home.
Michael and Annelie were extremely friendly and immediately made us feel at home. They went out of their way to keep everything running smoothly during load shedding, especially with minus 2 degrees. The breakfast served was absolutely worth the money.
We slept over one night. During a previous sleepover event in Colesberg we could hardly sleep due to the noise from the N1. This room was wonderfully quiet all night - a combination of the thick, old walls and the location down the hill, I think. Eskom of course turned off the power, but the owners topped up the electricity, which meant the lights stayed on. Because we wouldn't arrive until late afternoon, the owner turned on the air conditioning early, so that our room could be warm for the cold night. The bedding was of good quality and we had a very comfortable stay. Our car could park behind a locked gate. Definitely a safe and good choice for an overnight stay.
Ons het met ons groot hond puik verblyf gekry. Hy het sy eie "erf" gehad waar hy kon bene rek.
We were only stopping overnight, but I could easily spend a longer time here.
Friendly and helpful service. Delicious breakfast!
Very friendly people who make sure you are comfortable. Guesthouse is also old but very clean. Would recommend it for sure.
Basic accommodation, but the food was excellent! Annalie is allowed to cook and was accommodating with my teenager. She also went out of her way to courier an item we forgot there.
Definitely overpriced in comparison to other places we have stayed in Colesberg.
Host and hostess friendly. Room and bathroom dirty. Extensive layer of black algae in bathroom. Surfaces that guests have to touch (doors and switches) covered with sticky dust layer. Visible layer of dust on tiles and wooden moldings. Night rest disturbed by bright external light shining in from window above door (the side curtain is too small and does not block bright light). Bathroom light stays on hours after one turns it off and shines on bed when one goes to sleep. It also shines past sides of the closed door. Too little space to put down personal items. Room located very close to the street.
I was warmly welcomed and kindly shown around. The room was very neat, clean and beautifully decorated. Everything I could possibly need was provided, even mosquito repellent, in case they bothered you. The bed was very comfortable and I really rested after a long day of driving. The bathroom has a lovely corner bath which I enjoyed so much. I recommend The Barracks to any traveler.
A lovely stay! The Barracks are quaint, steeped in History with lots of memorabilia and beautiful antiques. Very interesting that these barracks formerly housed the British Ranking Officers.
Were helpfull, friendly and clean.
The room was pre-heated in the icy cold Colesberg. Dinner's lamb chops were superbly prepared. Can highly recommend it.
We were warmly received with a warm room and OBS against the cold! Beautiful room with everything one could need. Can absolutely recommend it!
Friendly and personal welcome at arrival. The Barracks really makes an effort to ensure comfort and privacy. Own secure parking. The rooms are very comfortable with good beds, a spacious clean bathroom and above all very quiet. Far away from all the traffic on the N1. For dinner we chose the on-site restaurant. And were served a 3 course 'boerekos' meal, prepared by the lady of the house. While her husband lit a fire in the dining room filled with antiques. Really very homely and the food tasted particularly nice. The lamb chops were delicious and crispy. The chocolate bomb for dessert was a real treat. The breakfast in the morning was extensive, with delicious fresh ingredients. Very helpful hosts who also helped us with printing documents before departure. They waved us goodbye personally. A very charming and pleasant B&B where we would like to stay again. Well recommended!
This is now our 4th time staying here. Always very friendly welcome, room beautifully neat and clean, TV works, bathroom neat, clean, nice soaps and shampoos, soft clean towels and they make the most delicious breakfast. I almost forget, you are warmly welcomed with a glass of sherry, now what more could a weary traveler want.
Unit is very well equipped. Very neat and clean.
It was a very pleasant experience and will definitely stay there again when passing through Colesberg. Breakfeast was great as well.
A really welcoming and peaceful place to lay your weary head after taking on the the long N1.
All you need.
Centrally located, walking distance from a place to eat. Neat and very friendly welcome.
The hosts were very accommodating, our room was very comfortable and the meals that we had requested were more than anticipated. We will definitely use this venue again in the future.
We stayed one night and it was a very pleasant experience, thank you.
Mike is very hospitable. Will visit there again.
Not much more to say. Was good value for money. Good place to stay if traveling with pets.
We weren't able to open the emails while away, and we didn't see that it was not pet-friendly. However the owner allowed us to stay with our dog. We're very grateful for this. Thank you.
We had a nice stay here. No problems. I would only recommend that the bushes and trees be trimmed a bit, if this has not already been done, by the path in front of the rooms. Looks so beautiful and gives a peaceful atmosphere but the slope is too low, especially the men have to walk stooped.
Mike received us well and made us feel at home. Only slept and took no meals, left early.
Nicely located, clean old world charm with friendly service.
The breakfast was delicious.
Close to cute places to eat within walking distance. Friendly host/wife.
First time we have stayed in the Paddock's which is ideal for families etc. Should have ordered the braai packs as there are braai's available at the units and weather was fantastic. The dinner was outstanding. The friendliness and politeness made the stay very enjoyable. Will definitely make use of their services again should we stay over in Colesberg.
The history of the area and the information provided by the host also added to the pleasure of our stay.
The unit being dog friendly was convenient that it was closed all around. Beds slept well. The coats were a bonus on the cold evening. Shower may need an overhaul.
Convenient to stay overnight with nearby restaurant.
Away from highway, welcome quiet, large rooms, friendly service, within walking distance of nice restaurants, clean.
I was traveling with my young adult daughter and booked a room with two single beds. On arrival we were offered 2 separate rooms at no extra charge. Thank you very much. Great service.
Neat and very hospitable atmosphere.
Very pleasant overnight stay.
Friendly service! Beautiful, historic building.
Ideal for a quick sleepover. There is a bar where we could visit quietly on the stoep. The best place to eat for dinner is within walking distance. We can really recommend it.
Will definitely visit agian
Great stay and great service, everything was as expected and also having a great restaurant in walking distance was a bonus.
Very hospitable and dinner was delicious. A homely atmosphere. Will definitely stay there again.
Clean, tidy, friendly - breakfast is excellent - the room is very nice and has absolutely everything you need to spend the night.
Friendly reception. Will definitely stay there again.
The Barracks is a nice and clean place to rest. The owners know what hospitality means. Breakfast was also excellent, and we liked the fact that breakfast starts early. We will stay over there again.
Old world elegance, cozy guest house with dinner and breakfast! Host Mike and hostess Annalie, you may! We are happy to recommend your place for overnight travelers between Gauteng and the Cape!
Friendly service. Very old fashioned (personal opinion) but is quite clean.
It is a clean place.
Bath, sink and shower curtain could do with some cleaning. There is a lot of potential in this guest house but the finer points fail. They have a historic building and can build on it by e.g. the taps etc. too "brasso". After all, it was officers' menagerie during the Boer war.
Our host is very friendly and helpful and we had the most delicious meals. Will definitely stay there again.
Very comfortable and beautiful. Everything you need for an overnight stay.
Once again a great stay over. Value for money.
A wonderful experience from the moment we arrived. Outside, we were welcomed by the most friendliest owner who led us through the premises and shown our beautiful room. We had a very pleasant and peaceful stay and would recommend the place to everyone.
It is a beautiful, old house with a lot of history. Our car was safe. It was put behind gates for us. We are spoiled.
Met by host on the street as I rode slowly past, uncertain of where I was. Safe parking sorted, shown room and all that was necessary to find my way around. Large, clean, pleasant room and en-suite. Air con to heat and cool. Wi-Fi. Host pointed out restaurant close by where I could dine after my journey. A good night's sleep on a good mattresses and bedding. The hosts prepared the breakfast themselves on a Sunday morning which was a nice touch as was the full breakfast. A pleasant stay.
Stayed overnight at the Barracks. The hosts are incredibly friendly and helpful. The place is a bit old, but very neat and clean. We slept wonderfully comfortably. The breakfast was delicious and you get individual attention. The Alaskan Malamute was the cutest dog out there and my little girl was totally in love with her. I would definitely recommend them. Warm and good people!
Comfortable and safe overnight destination.
Mike messaged me in the morning to ask me to let him know when we were about 30 minutes away so he could put the heaters on in the room. Amazing service and thoughtfulness. A lovely evening in Colesberg in a great B&B.
Comfortable, good food, personal attention. The owner waits for you outside with a glass of sherry. Personal attention.
It was great. Will definitely stay there again. Would recommend it.
Mike and Annelie were excellent hosts!
We stayed overnight at The Barracks in January 2018. It was the first time we stayed at The Barracks and were pleasantly surprised with the good service and the neat and well-equipped accommodation. The breakfast was also very tasty and the service fast. We can definitely recommend The Barracks.
The Barracks is not a tourist haven. For us it is a stopover to Cape Town. The overall appearance is neglected but has a certain charm. The host is very welcoming and pleasant. The food absolutely great.
Very clean and tidy. Will definitely stay there again.
The driver was very helpful, rested well without any incidents.
We were surprised at how nice and clean everything was. Being an animal lover, the beautiful dogs added to my positive experience.
Mike, the host, was very friendly and helpful without making a nuisance of himself. Dinner was delicious and the breakfast included in the price was a hit.
Rooms are in historical building with small shaded garden. Beds are comfy and linen is clean. Decor is tired. Dinner could be served and presented more attractively. Free range cat on premises.
Extremely professional service from a very friendly host.
Easy to find The Barracks from N1. Well received. Felt safe and had a peaceful overnight stay. Received breakfast package. Will definitely use The Barracks again.
My family and I (and our dogs) want to thank Mike and his wife for the wonderful, comfy, hospitable guesthouse in Colesburg. Die Barracks has an ideal location and the safe, private courtyard, spotless guesthouse, and outstanding service makes it perfect for an overnight stay. Mike helped us to park in the locked area for our car and trailer, gave us some sherry, and even an extra lock and key. He recommended his friend Nick's restaurant in the same streat - the food was delicious. The room accommodates 4 people and it was very comfortable. Thanks so so much Mike, you will see us again.
We were welcomed to our car by the owner. We had a delicious 3-course meal in the old house. Room and bathroom are minimalistic and beautiful. We will definitely stay there again in the future!
The kindness and professional manner in which we were treated is certainly commendable. Michael the owner even called us before we got there to find out how we were doing and what time we would get there. From there until we left, we were treated with genuine country hospitality which made it a unique and unforgettable experience.
Hospitable, excellent service and I can highly recommend the accommodation.
Thank you to the people of Barracks - lovely old historic building with a very friendly host. Slept well and breakfast was scrumptious. Ons has to keep in mind that this is a very small community. I can truly testify that the owner and staff do great work. Nice, clean and comfortable. Would definitely return. All the best and thank you to LekkeSlaap.
We enjoyed the family room with space and private courtyard after being on the road for a while. Mike and Annalie will receive you when you arrive in true countryside hospitality with a glass of sherry and orange juice. Good service, breakfast delicious. Mike went through extra trouble to accommodate our 2 year old son's dietary requirements. Will definitely recommend to family and friends.
Wonderful, clean, comfortable, hospitable, safe, ideal place to overnight.
We loved our stay at The Barracks. We booked dinner and found the food and wine to be great value for money. The portions was even big enough for my teenaged boys! Wonderful warm room when we arrived on a winter's afternoon. Everything beautiful and neat. We were on our way between Gauteng and Knysna, so we had plans to leave early the next morning. But the calm, home atmosphere compelled us to get up on our time and have brekafast before we hit the road again. I can definitely see myself spending more thatn just the night here. We found the blinds and the window above the door unable to block out the light sufficiently for a good night's rest.
Very pleasant experience again.
Second time we stayed over here. Staff friendly and thoughtful. The food was delicious and excellently prepared.
Dinner was delicious, so was breakfast, owners friendly and hospitable, rooms comfortable, our vehicle was safely parked in the yard.
Good value for money and nice hospitality. Mike is great. Rooms are comfortable and clean.
Had a good night's rest, bed comfortable and bedding very clean. Room is clean and neat and fridge in room is definitely a plus! We were friendly received and breakfast was lovely. A bit expensive but would definitely recommend the place.
This overnight stay en route to Cape Town is comfortable with loads of space in the rooms and bathrooms. The veranda outside the room and the beautiful plant life makes it very private and removed from the street. The historical building is really very well looked after and equipped with all of the basics. TV and everything else is in working order and the manager was so friendly and helpful. Parking is off the street and our bikes were safe on the back of the trailer. The dinner and the lunch packs we got for breakfast were well prepared and presented. Especially the men enjoyed the dinner a lot after a long day on the road.
Good stay. Friendly service.
Very friendly welcome by Mike, glass of sherry offered, place is clean, tidy and comfortable, will use them again up to Cape and back, nice chat with Mike at the breakfast table, who served a very nice breakfast the morning of departure.
See stars.
The hosts are ultra-friendly and helpful. I enjoyed chatting and comparing notes. The accommodation is spacious and comfortable. The cuisine, tasty and Karoo-specific. A restful break during the groot trek between JHB and CT. Thank you, guys!
Stayed here last year on the way to Kleinmond. Was immediately welcomed and received with a sherry - very hospitable and friendly. Rooms very nicely furnished and have everything you need - very comfortable. Food was excellent - dinner as well as breakfast. Owners go out of their way to make sure you enjoy and are satisfied. Would definitely recommend and definitely stay there again.
From the minute we arrived my sister and I were met with friendliness. Annelie's food was delicious and her husband's hospitality was wonderful.
Staff friendly and food was delicious.
We were very kindly received by our host with a glass of sherry on our porch. Our room was spacious and tidy. The hot water bags were a welcome treat on a cold and wet day! Nice warm sleep! Breakfast was included, delicious and more than enough. Would definitely recommend The Barracks!
The rooms are spacious and clean, plenty of hot water and nice and comfortable beds and bedding. Perfect overnight stop and delicious breakfast. Just remember to book dinner! There are restaurants around as well.
Breakfast was excellent! We were even welcomed with a glass of sherry.
I was pleasantly surprised with regards to the amazing service and friendliness of the owners who welcomed us with open arms. The rooms were lovely and clean and it was so nice and quiet. I would definitely recommend this establishment to anyone.
Beautiful, cozy accommodation in the Karoo. Quality very good.
Safe place in the middle of town. Parking inside the yard. Place also has history for those who will like it. We stayed there on our way to vacation and on our way back. Food was incredibly delicious. Will definitely stay there again on next holiday.
Lovely, friendly place to stop with a wonderful dinner when we arrived. Family unit was perfect with the dog and small children because everyone could stretch their legs in the courtyard. Will definitely come again. Thank you very much.
Neat, clean and helpful. Will stay there again. Book early for dinner, or walk to Plattelander.
Fine for an overnight stop en route to the Western Cape. A pet friendly, secure, overnight stop was appreciated at The Barracks. The accommodation was clean and comfortable, with attentive hosts. Food served at dinner and breakfast was fresh and delicious.
The Barracks is a convenient overnight stay on the long road between Johannesburg and the good old Cape. Maybe the host and hostess should note that all guests "carry the same weight". Felt a bit as though the older guests enjoyed more attention to their comfort and needs (maybe they are regular guests). But will definitely recommend The Barracks to anyone, but personally when we travel this far again I would look for a more everyone-welcome-nest.
The owners are amazing! We really enjoyed our stay.
Mike goes out of his way to make everything as convenient as possible. Nice breakfast without a long wait.
Owner and his wife welcomed us with a tot of port. Place very old and historical. Everything was neat and clean and the hospitality was out of this world. Dinner was excellent. The lamb was very tender.
Rooms a little rustic.
Stay at The Barracks was very pleasant. Room very clean and tidy, friendly reception and delicious breakfast. Would definitely recommend it.
Not happy at all with the amount you pay and what you get.
Just what you need after a day's driving. Everything was perfect! Thank you very much. See you soon!
It felt like visiting old acquaintances. Neat, easy to reach place. Beautifully decorated, the food is top notch and the warm conviviality makes it a very special place.
A particular historical atmosphere, but very comfortable. Excellent hospitality and luxurious amenities in the bath and bedroom. No effort was spared. The dinner and breakfast were exquisite and excellently prepared. Excellent wines available. Will definitely stay there again on occasion and recommend to anyone else.
It has a quaint antiquity country feel which is a great escape from the modern life of the city.
It was a bit difficult to find the place as we couldn't find it on the GPS. But the service and rooms were excellent.
Would not stay anywhere else in Colesberg again.
We were hospitably received. There is a neat place to sleep that fits in nicely with the place's history.
The service was great. I had called a day before I left to find out where I was going and what time I planned to arrive at the place. And on the day I was half an hour later than I had more or less planned. They called me to see if everything was still okay on the road. Their helpfulness from start to finish was greatly appreciated. As a solo traveler I felt very safe and at ease.
I enjoyed my stay over at the barracks. The hosts Mike and Annalie went out of their way to ensure I had a comfy stay. They also assisted with parking my heavy trailor. The supper was excellent and I can highly recommend the Barracks.
Friendly hosts, good meals, they called us the day before we arrived to find out whether we would like to have dinner with them.
Pleasant, clean and hospitable. Owners try really hard to take care of guests' needs.
Good service with clean rooms, good food and hospitable owners.
We enjoy staying at The Barracks. The rooms are always clean & fresh, parking is secure, the food is excellent and the service outstanding.
A very friendly and comfortable stopover.
We always stay here when we are in Colesberg. It's worth booking for dinner - the food is delicious and well prepared. Breakfast is also delicious.
Very pleasant stay in the perfect place to stop between Johannesburg and Cape Town. Would definitely recommend it.
A beautiful old building, a lot of the original comforts are still part of the rooms. A very large and wonderful bathroom and very spacious room. The host and hostess were gracious and very kind. Will recommend The Barracks to anyone who needs a great place to relax after a long journey. Food was also amazing!
A fantastic, authentic experience! Annelie and Micheal carried us on their hands - the food was 5 star and more. Wonderful wines to choose from! The rooms are wonderfully spacious and beautifully furnished, not to mention the corner bath in the bathroom...
The rooms are unique. The dining room and bar are full of character. The owners are very hospitable and friendly. A historic B&B!
My GPS could not recognize the street name. No problem with accommodation and breakfast. Nice and helpful host!
Quiet location and very attentive hosts.
From a security point of view I would have preferred burglar bars over the doors and windows, but I see that seems to be the norm. The unit was really nice, especially the private patio (actually wish I had arrived earlier!)
Breakfast and breakfast room very cute.
Hospitality and good food! Can recommend it!
An old building that has a special history. The food was excellent, the owners were always available and communicate well with all guests.
The room very comfortable and large. And the food is delicious!
The owners were very focused on safety which is acceptable. However, the bedroom's blinds were insufficient to block the outside lights and the bedroom was too lit during the night.
Wonderful hosts, the rooms clean and good linen. Lots of Olde World charm! Good location in Colesburg and a really nice breakfast is served. Would definitely go there again and recommend it.
The Barracks is a good option for overnight accommodation. We were satisfied with the accommodation. There is a beautiful view from the room door and porch over the mountain. What was a big plus for us is that breakfast was included in the price and that the owners give you the option of taking a packed breakfast if you want to drive early. We used it and it was delicious!
Barracks is well located for tourists. Friendly, helpful reception, safe parking, meals very good, but the uncleanliness really detracted from the experience.
Would certainly recommend The Barracks. Warm, friendly, good accommodation, good food, good service.
We enjoyed a tasty dinner that was particularly well presented. The cutlery is of the best quality and everything was tasty and attractively presented. The breakfast was unbeatable with fresh fruit, juice, yoghurt, variety of porridge and full English breakfast. The owners were always available and very helpful. From now on we will stay at no other place than The Barracks when we are at Colesburg.
A unique cremation!!
Really great, will book there again.
Owner extremely knowledgeable about establishment. Very interesting & valuable décor in dining room.
We were looking for a spot to stopover while traveling with our dogs and this accommodation was perfect! The Barracks is clean and the owners are very welcoming. The food was exceptional. Real good home cooked food. The best part was that the dogs had space to roam around a little bit.
Very friendly reception and the service was always very good. Dinner and breakfast were very nice. Very clean and tidy. Would recommend to anyone to sleep over. Great!
Very spacious and excellent personal attention by the owner. Pleasant experience.
Rustic atmosphere steeped in history.
The place has a very interesting history and Dave (host) has all kinds of interesting stories. The dinner was excellent, especially the vegetarian dish for two of us. The rooms have everything one needs.
Had a good stay.
There are new owners who really try hard to make you feel welcome.
The hospitality and food of The Barracks was truly top notch and we had a great time there.
Dinner was delicious, just a shame that it cost a farm's price.
The place is ok but I don't like such old places that are haunted. The owners were very friendly.
Felt like home away from home - only we did not have to clean up like home. Thank you Dave and spouse!
Extremely friendly hosts, great food and a well-stocked bar. Had a very good nights sleep at The Barracks.
We had clean, comfortable rooms and our needs were catered to graciously. A lovely home cooked meal and hearty breakfast rounded it all off.
Room was as good as expected. Hospitality great. Food was brilliant. Won't stay anywhere else in Colesberg.
If you're stopping in Colesburg, The Barracks is a really safe bet.
Very pleasant host, thought they were a bit overpriced, room was quite spartan - ideal for a one-night stay over.
We had a wonderful time staying at the Barracks. We were pleasantly suprised by the hospitality and food, everything was done with a lot of personal touch and care. we would always remmember our experience at the barracks to be one of the best guest houses we have stayed at . Thank you so much.
I enjoyed my stay at the guest house but think that the meals are a bit over priced. The owner told me that the supper worked out R85 per meal and 2 glasses of wine R45.I was charged R265 for 2 suppers and 2 glasses of wine. Don't know where did they get the extra R40 from.
The people were friendly and helpful. The place has history and charm.
