139 guests' feedbackThe warm welcome, even by the dogs and cat, made my stay most enjoyable. I loved the wide open space of being on a farm, yet knowing that I am in the town. The friendly hostess's generosity, on all levels, contributed to my desperately needed rest with peace of mind.
Our accommodation was wonderful. We were served a delicious breakfast too. Enjoyed the hot tub (kol kol). Position was central and close to all amenities.

Barrydale is a quaint country town, nestled between beautiful mountains with the beautiful Tredoux pass.
If I could give 12/5 I would. The hostess, Hanet, is very friendly, the place is nice and the breakfast fantastic! We are already talking about when we can go again. Perfect relaxing weekend from the Cape.
Quiet farm stay, but also close to everything. The breakfast on Saturday and Sunday was a big treat — delicious! Sunday morning's breakfast plate was incredibly tasty and special. Thank you very much for everyone's hard work, hospitality and nice treats.
Thank you Hanette! We so enjoyed staying at Blue Cow on our journey between Kommetjie and Gamkaskloof. Wish we could have stayed longer! Even though winter was creeping closer, our little house was cozy and warm. Thanks for the electric blankets and boiling water shower! The free breakfast in Blue Cow's restaurant was beautifully served and tasted delicious. What a feast it was there next to the coal stove, with a beautiful view over a pond full of lilies with fields in the background. We would love to come again!
Stop, stay and talk to the locals. They know the best places to eat and taste in the countryside.
The check-in procedure is very convenient and the communication runs smoothly. The host was very flexible with the check-out time which was really appreciated. The breakfast is at the Blue Cow coffee house (voucher of 100) and is delicious.

I can recommend it any day. It offers value for money and is peaceful.
We really enjoyed our stay, although a little help with the hot tub would have helped a lot. Unfortunately, we had little benefit from this. The breakfast in the restaurant and also the one we received at our cottage were out of the books. We were a bit anxious in the evening during load shedding. It was just incredibly dark and we felt unsafe. The owner also slightly overreacted when I parked in a place where she apparently planted. It was unfortunately our first meeting and could have been less rough. Or the area could be better marked as "no parking".
Cottages comfortable, bed very comfortable, linen clean and fresh. However, a little more attention to detail could be used. Cobwebs and spiders were a problem. It was also lovely to hang out on the stoep and have a barbecue. The breakfast included in the booking was top notch and portions very generous! Thank you Hannett!

The Blue Cow Barn was exactly what we wanted, a peaceful farm experience, but close to the town. Our unit was very clean, had everything that we required, in a peaceful quiet atmosphere. We were able to sit on the veranda and enjoy the whole experience. Breakfast was excellent, especially on Sunday when the restaurant was closed and Hanette delivered a tray with our breakfast to our door, who could ask for more!

Just spent one night. Everything that was needed, easy book in with key safe at the front door. Sadly didn't make use of the ready to use braai with wood as went out for dinner.
Barrydale is a convenient stopover for travel on R62. Blue Cow is on the farm, not confined to a yard. Enjoy the surroundings.

We made an unexpected visit/sleepover plan and also unexpectedly ended up at Blue Cow Barn. Nothing was too big or too small an effort for Hannette and Bertus. They went out of their way to make everything perfect and comfortable and beautiful for us. What a gem - I would recommend Blue Cow to anyone as far as I go! Wow, and that breakfast the next morning. We will have to go far to get it again! Thank you very, very much!
The visit to the town requires two nights to explore. Accommodation is on a working "farm", which borders the town (within walking distance). The hostess has a lot of "attention to detail". The breakfast was an unexpected bonus and it is of a high quality. Even here the detail was not lacking.
All that is needed for a peaceful overnight stay. For luxurious rest I would welcome a sofa for soft sitting.

We enjoyed being out of town, but close enough to go to a wonderful restaurant for dinner. Hanna was a wonderful hostess offering us insights into life and history of Barrydale. Blue Cow was spacious, comfortable and clean, and the Blue Cow Shed for breakfast was a marvellous bonus with a lovely view.
Ansie was comfortable, had everything we needed and the Cooks were very friendly and helpful. Would recommend the Blue Cow to everyone.
Als was very clean and tidy and exactly as advertised. Dinner was available at an extra charge, and so welcome after a long day's travel. Dinner and breakfast were incredibly tasty and large portions. Very nice, peaceful location - it's on the side of town so it's a bit away from other restaurants and places in town. Secure parking available at the unit which is always a plus. Expectations were exceeded with how friendly and helpful the staff are - they try to accommodate as much as they can, which is much appreciated. Would highly recommend The Blue Cow Barn. We couldn't believe that we could get a beautiful little house to ourselves and breakfast included for such a reasonable price. Seeing the owner in the garden on the morning of our departure and having a nice chat was just the icing on the cake. Recommend to anyone!

I arrived earlier as anticipated and the staff did their best to speed-up cleaning the unit and allowed me to settle in a bit earlier at 1pm instead of 2pm. And this personal attention makes the difference. Also ample firewood available to allow one to braai without having to cart wood with, especially when riding a motorcycle. Great place and even Matewis the cat kept me company to add to the homely atmosphere.

We had a wonderful stay at the Blue Cow Barn. Property was clean and neat with a great hostess, everything we needed was in the room. WiFi signal was good. Big bonus that an excellent breakfast was included in the price making it great value.
Barrydale has cute restaurants and trinket shops and the pass to get there makes it a must do on any road trip!

After two days on the road, we needed a good night's sleep. Here we also had the opportunity to go with our puppy for a walk on the farm. The cottages are tastefully decorated and neat. We especially enjoyed the nice hot shower in the morning. We highly recommend Blue Cow Barn.

A very cute little cottage with our own terrace, garden space all around us. Our 4 year old boy loved the cat and dog passing by to say hello. As we spent one night over the weekend we got the breakfast served at our cottage. This was the best breakfast we had during our trip! Self made with love - omelette, warm muffins and bread, olives from the garden etc. There are no cows, if you are looking for a farm experience. But other than that very clean, beautifully furnished cottage in a quiet surrounding. Great communication. We definitely recommend this place! Walking distance to restaurants - we loved the Mez.

There is no dining table in the small rooms and too cold to sit outside at night. Only option was to sit on the bed and eat and/or play cards.
A total misrepresentation according to the photos on the website. Boutique? In the middle of summer, the electric blanket is still on the bed while a single bed blanket is thrown across the top of the bed, not even nearly big enough for the double bed. Please note that the room is advertised with a king size bed. The unit faces west and the sun made it impossible to sit outside on the veranda in the late afternoon. The black water coming from the units is piped and exits right next to the porch, which causes an extremely unpleasant smell. The power plugs are overloaded to such an extent that they can be considered dangerous. The apartment is laden with so much unnecessary stuff. I was extremely disappointed with the stay and would definitely not recommend it.
The friendly owner welcomed us immediately upon our arrival and he spared no effort to put an extra bed in the living area after we changed the reservation from 2 persons to 3 persons. The place is very neat and tidy. Lovely large porch and braai area. Would love to stay again and can recommend the Blue Cow for accommodation!

The owners (Bertus and his mother, Annette) were very hospitable and made us feel very welcome. Even the sheep dog, Trinity, welcomed us and looked after us! We stayed in Ansie apartment and there was everything we could need. We really enjoyed the garden and farm feel.

My husband and I had a lovely stay at The Blue Cow Barn. The host was incredibly friendly and a super host! The cottage was neat, squeaky clean and equipped with all the necessary items one would require for self-catering accommodation. The farm was peaceful and felt safe. A highlight was getting to pick some carrots on the farm (we were given permission from the host/owner). We sat on the patio and enjoyed a glass of wine while we munched our carrots and took in the view of the farm. Bliss!

The little hut is beautifully located on a small-holding on the edge of Barrydal - very quiet and relaxing. Limited hiking and biking from there, beter to explore the area by car.

On arrival at the Blue Cow restaurant where we had to pick up the key, we were kindly received and a piece of bread was put in our hands to feed the hundreds of fish in the pond. I was ecstatic about this. We were offered a lovely cappuccino and admired the finches and scenery. On the farm we were once again received kindly and taken to our cottage. Everything was so nice neat and clean. We had a great barbecue that night and the farm cat came to sit on my lap for company. The silence was lovely and the gardens beautiful to behold. We will go back for sure. I wish I could upload photos I took in Barrydale because with the dramatic thunder clouds it was a picture perfect day.

I stayed on Barrydale on my way to New Bethesda. The Blue Cow immediately caught my eye online. The owner upgraded me to the very best cottage, Ansie. He recommended a very good restaurant in the town, and I had a great time eating and visiting. What a fantastic experience, I just stay forever.

We were in town for a weekend for a family wedding and really enjoyed staying here. The accommodation is close enough to the church and hotel (for the reception) but also offers you the peace and quiet to be able to have a good barbecue on your own and to visit together as a family in between. Feels like the cottage needs a TV. The bedroom is large enough for a queen-sized bed. There should be a blanket for guests who don't like duvets. There should also be a table with a mirror, chair and plug for hair and make-up.
