Lovely clean place with a cute braai area and pool, huge kitchen for self-catering. We stayed in for dinner (as it was a Sunday) and watched a beautiful sunset. The Calitz is located in a quiet neighborhood. There is a spacious braai area on the upper level, and a large open plan reception room, lounge, kitchen, dining area at the bottom of the braai area, on the outside of the house where the bedrooms are. The rooms are nice and tidy. There is no TV in the rooms and unfortunately the reception set was not working.
Felt like home to both myself and my wife. Had the best host. Angela was so friendly from the first moment all the way through our entire stay. Even following up long after we had left. Nothing short of outstanding!

The dirty bedroom floors, the continuously running water through the night of the water feature and the empty anti-mosquito liquid containers/refills, which the host waved aside as unnecessary if we ran the aircons with mosquitoes ever present in large numbers, were blemishes that were not welcome.
The Calitz is off the high street and has a modern feel. Nice view to the mountains from the braai area. Nice central hangout. Room clean and enough space. A big plus is the fact that they have backup system for power outages, plus Wifi. We were able to watch Netflix which worked well during power outages. Will stay there again if we come through Calitzdorp again.
They absolutely think of als! Comfortable beds, filter coffee in the rooms and a lovely pool. It's the best place where one can experience the Karoo in comfort.

We came very late from a wedding and didn't sleep until after 1. More people came in later and activated the car alarm on the premises. We had a big fright and had trouble getting back to sleep. If you could silence the alarm that would be great.

Everything you would need for a sleepover and more. The room was beautiful with a great bed and linen and there is also a private outside patio. There is an aircon, small fridge, microwave, and coffee making facilities. The bathroom was large and moderate. There is a shallow pool and braai area outside as well as an area where you can eat and watch TV. There is also a full kitchen for general use for the guests. The calitz also has wi-fi and secure parking. Angela was our hostess and was excellent from start to finish. We would highly recommend The Calitz.

We had an enjoyable stay but are not used to hearing our neighbours walking around, movement sounds and talking due to the wooden floors and thin walls. Security rating of 3 is given not for anything that happened but for our feeling of vulnerability.
The stay was pleasant. The Wi-Fi did not work in our room. Only outside. But the place is well-equipped. The area around does not look too great, but the cars are parked away safely.

I was surprised by the large room with 2 bathrooms. Everything was very tidy with safe parking for our cars. However, the WiFi signal did not extend to the unit we occupied.
The plus points of The Calitz are the friendly reception by Colleen, tidy room, and a comfortable bed with an electric blanket. The carafe of sweet wine was also very special. As there are no cooking facilities in the room, but only in the communal kitchen/dining room, it can be inconvenient to stay there for longer periods. A less "thrifty" shower head would be a necessary improvement.
Had a great stay - don't know if the place has been around for a while. Found a lot of bugs and cockroaches in the rooms.
Colleen is the most helpful and obliging host ever. She even booked our dinner date for us. She is a wealth of information of the surrounding area and you cannot fault the accommodation. I would definitely stay there again.

The Calitz offers tasteful overnight accommodation without meals but with coffee and tea making facilities. The rooms are very neat and clean, there are adequate security measures and a special fenced area where your car is also safe. The bed is excellent. For those who want to prepare a meal or want to grill meat, there is a common area with kitchen and lounge where you can also relax and watch DSTV. We saw that a previous reviewer wrote about pesky cockroaches. Don't bother with that review.
Colleen and Charlie are a very pleasant couple and made our stay there very easy. The guest house is tasteful and our room also had a small garden with a table and chairs. There is a beautiful living room with TV, a kitchen and a fridge. We can recommend The Calitz without reservation.

The accommodation was top quality. All problem was the insects cockroaches that were sometimes found in the room which made us unable to sleep. Especially for persons who do not like camping (like me personally) finding insects in the rooms will be a problem. If something is done about it, The Calitz will definitely see us again or a lot more.

What a surprise to discover such a gem in a quiet area. I just want to mention first that The Calitz is super clean. These are old buildings that have been transformed into the most beautiful guest house accommodation. Colleen has a great eye for detail and color. We would stay there again anytime.

The most excellent hostess of all the guest houses on Route 62. Colleen and Charlie carried us on their hands, and her breakfasts only added that extra fine detail, that little something above the general bacon, toast and eggs. Will overnight there again.
We really enjoyed our overnight stay at The Calitz. The decor is stylish and there is everything you need. The stoep is the ideal place to sit quietly and read a book or if you want to be more private with your room's own stoep. The fireplace in the living area was also a highlight. We will definitely go back again and are sorry we couldn't stay longer.

Spacious room and bathroom with porch area. The air conditioner made it very pleasant in the December heat in Calitzdorp. I appreciate the safe parking area. However, what bothered me is the fact that there is enough parking for 5 vehicles without parking each other. However, when trailers are being towed in vehicle parking spaces it makes things somewhat more challenging.
We really felt at home, wonderful location and value for money.

Great service and helpfulness and the breakfast is something you won't just improve. Not for R75. Rooms are beautifully furnished with air conditioning. Good balance between old and new. Everything is very nice and clean. There are options to grill yourself or eat out at the local grill.

Very nice. Family room had a terrible drain smell that comes from the bathroom. Guests that slept there, couldn't breathe properly and couldn't use the bathroom in the morning. Looks like the smell comes from the shower's drain. Possibly from a septic tank.

Recommended it to friends. Just feel like attention should be paid to the pillows. They're flat and hard, can't puff.
The towels were full of dust. We even had to wash the cutlery and plates before we could eat. For such a hot town I would recommend they put aircons in all their rooms. We only had 2 standing fans and it didn't help the heat at all. Als was clean but towels and bedding smelled of dust. We just feel the service could have been better for what we paid.
It was one of the best places we have ever stayed. The room was so neat and the place should be featured in decor magazines! Colleen was a wonderful hostess and we would definitely like to stay at The Calitz again.
Charlie was incredibly hospitable and specially bought wood and bottled water for us. The unit was very tidy and we could all comfortably shower, bathe and sleep. 5 adults and 1 child. The common area is also well equipped so you can have a nice barbecue around the pool and socialize. I would recommend it to anyone at any time and would definitely visit again myself.

We probably couldn't find a better place to stay in Calitzdorp. Our friends unit Germany were also very impressed. The braai facilities are great and the whole premises clean and tidy. The owners are extremely nice and helpful. The breakfast exceeded all our expectations. We are grateful and recommend The Calitz without a doubt. We would love to stay there again in the future.

Stylish clean bathrooms and rooms, warm beds to ward off the winter cold, the lovely sitting area in the house where you are welcomed with port by a fireplace - that's The Calitz. Artistic decor creates a magnificent effect. The bathrooms (up to the porch toilets) are generously stocked with towels and hand and body wash soap. Colleen and Charlie spare no effort to make your stay outstanding, such as hot soup because we traveled far, braai wood provided free of charge and prompt service like in a restaurant when they are there. We can also recommend the tasty 2-course breakfast - the first time I've eaten doily pancakes! Extra things like the toilets on the veranda definitely add an extra star. Colleen's 45 years in the hospitality industry and Charlie's ingenuity can be seen in everything. Their hospitality amazed some of our other wine circle members who stopped by. The Calitz is definitely the place to stay in Calitzdorp.
The guest house was a real pleasure in every way: Impeccably clean and tidy, stylish interior and incredibly hospitable owners. The guest house should be experienced by everyone who spends the night in Calitzdorp. The spacious living room which also serves as a dining room for breakfast is a beautiful room and has a lovely fireplace with a fridge that can be used by the guests. Enough wood was provided to ward off the winter cold. The spacious outdoor barbecue area with its plunge pool and beautiful covered patio will certainly be particularly enjoyed in the summer. We were a group and the owners went out of their way to look after everyone's special needs and accommodate us with all kinds of surprises such as port at reception and hot soup in the evening for everyone to enjoy as they saw fit. We could even park our trailer at the owners' house! The breakfast is served with fine taste and is definitely worth the effort.
The Calitz is a real gem in Calitzdorp. Wonderful because probably I don't expect that, but for sure a very nice place. With excellent rooms, large living communal spaces, and pretty garden with small swimming pool. The price is very cheap, but probably it will be more expensive in the next time because they just open since 1 month. Anyway an advisable place to stay.
What a lovely place to stay. We had the whole place to ourselves as we booked out all the rooms except one. We were welcomed with a glass of port from Colleen which was very special. The facilities are amazing. We all had a welcome note with our names on our room doors written on a chalk board which was very special. Had a lovely plunge pool which was very inviting after a very hot day.

The location is not on the touristy side of town, but it is safe and offers everything you need: a great pool for the summer and a fireplace for the winter, and peace on the stoop with the sound of running water to add to the tranquility. It is our self-catering of choice for my future trips through Calitzdorp.
We were with a group of 6 persons and had 3 seperate rooms. The rooms were really beautiful. The hostess was really kind, we got a glass of port when we arrived. We also booked breakfast; it was delicious! We went to a restaurant closeby, and the hostess called them beacause we arrived late, but they stayed open just for us.

It's an excellent place to stay and meets all expectations. Parking on the street is a problem that is being solved.
The accommodation is excellently located, halfway on the way to the Eastern Cape from the Cape. I would advise everyone to stop there and stay for a few days! Rooms are large, beautifully "decorated", by Colleen the owner, very talented and "very artistic". There is a pool to cool off in while you barbecue! Definitely recommend, go again next year - there are also many activities in Calitzdorp from breakfast at The Rose of Karoo, wine tasting at Boplaas and Die Krans, dinner at an Italian place where you eat pizza in the vineyards to horse riding!

We stopped overnight in Calitzdorp and were very pleased that we had chosen to stay at The Calitz. We were two non-smoking couples. The rooms were well-equipped and beautifully presented; we particularly loved the rusks, and the owners were very hospitable and helpful to us. It is an easy walk to the restaurants on the main road (we had a very tasty meal at Porto Deli) and the plunge pool was wonderfully refreshing in the morning. I imagine it is a crucial asset in mid-summer! The only negative was that smoking is permitted (though not in the rooms, wisely) and happened to be prevalent during our stay. However, we greatly enjoyed staying at The Calitz and we hope to return. We definitely recommend it!
