Wonderful - a beautiful old Houghton mansion restored with flair. One is transported into a world of glamour and quirky fun - we had a wonderful time! The hostess is a consummate hostess with an amazingly warm personality and a dedicated staff.
Interesting and exciting place to stay! Definitely recommend for any special occasions or events. I would definitely choose to stay here above anywhere else in Joburg. The host was a highly intelligent and attentive person towards all her guests' needs and even took the time to go the extra mile by giving a tour of the gorgeous early 20th century mega mansion.

Not even power outages could stop the friendly workers from going out of their way to make our experience special. The location of this special place is exceptional and the house breathtaking. Bella is the old-fashioned brat who crawled right into our hearts. Bonus was two different room experiences in one weekend, with the move our hostess made to accommodate my wife due to her back procedure. Double the adventure. Will visit again, especially with the new addition project. PS And they can make food.

We were personally met by the Gina (our hostess), even after we had to notify her of our late arrival. Rooms were beautiful and very stylish. We really felt at home and are contemplating a second visit is as soon as possible. You have to see it to believe it, book it.
Our stay at the Gatsby almost feels like a glorious dream - definitely one of the most incredible places we've ever stayed. Gina's hospitality is excellent and her breakfast delicious. She gets full marks in every way. We heartily recommend the Gatsby.

Gina is an excellent host and absolutely goes out of her way to make you feel right at home. She makes an amazing breakfast spread so you have to stay here because you won't find a better breakfast anywhere in Johannesburg. The garden is quiet and has large trees offering a lot of shade. You can lookout over the Johannesburg skyline at night and even get your morning workout doing the terrace steps. The house is beautiful set high in upper Houghton Johannesburg and easy access to Sandton Melville etc. There's a Thai spa just down the road that is also recommended. Grant road nearby hosts many restaurants and is close by too.
What a gem of a place! We were overwhelmed by the hospitality, decor, comfort and style of the place. Our accommodation turned a weekend getaway into a truly special experience. Highly recommended. We will be sure to make this our destination of choice when we are next in the area.

Like a famous singer used to say "and now for my next number I'll return to the classics". And classic it is. Beautiful old that brings you back to the 20's 30's. Loved the break away from the ultra modern to keep it. Gina, the hostess is extremely friendly who also cooked lovely breakfast. Love to return when fully renovated.
