I cried when we got into the cottage and when we drove again. I have never stayed in such a fantastic place in my life. Peter and Diane are amazing people, we will definitely visit them again.

The stay is incredible, the view makes you feel like you are in a lush green forest. The suspension bridge towards the house is fun. It is truly in the middle of nowhere, requiring at least a 20-minute ride from Calitzdorp. But that is the whole experience of it. I went with a town car and it's a good gravel road to drive on. The house has everything that you need. There was even a good coffee espresso machine for ground coffee, and a decanter of port. The night sky is beautiful, and as a solo traveler, I felt really safe. The host is a great and loves to welcome you to his atelier/house for some coffee or tea.

All the positive reviews about The Hangman's Lookout are accurate. From the friendly personal reception by Peter, the owner, to the faithful, well-mannered, friendly crippled dog Chunky who is only too happy if you allow him to spend the night quietly in his place near the hearth. The road to the farm and on the farm to the isolated houses is for the adventurous, but certainly worth it.

Silence. A mountain. A rippling river. Willow trees. Feeling song. Privacy. Exquisite art. Comfortable furniture and bed. Large fireplace (with wood). Hot shower. Everything you need for a weekend getaway.
This is a peaceful and serene location. We had a relaxing stay in between the treetops and thoroughly enjoyed the visit from Chunky the resident dog. The sound of the river just outside your door is absolutely amazing! The owner is sweet and welcoming and the cottage is perfectly equipped with everything one needs. We had a great stay!

A perfect getaway destination. It is truly a hidden paradise where you can once again enjoy the simple joys in breathtaking natural beauty. The suspension bridge and the fireplace were definitely highlights. Even the canine company made it feel even more like home. Thanks for the stories, Peter. Wish we could stay longer.

Quiet, peace, nature was beautiful.
Wow, what can I say? What an unexpected gem in the middle of nowhere. The sound of the stream nearby was so soothing and waking up to the birds chirping was exactly the type of R & R that we needed. We would love to come back in winter to make use of that incredible inside fire! I cannot recommend this enough for a quiet getaway. The Delonghi coffee machine was also amazing (I have one at home and can't go back to instant coffee) so appreciated that little extra piece of luxury.
