The lodge offers self-catering accommodation in 10 chalets. All chalets are equipped for self-catering. Each unit features a private patio with braai facilities and a fireplace. The chalets are all service daily. The restaurant also provides meal and there is a menu available. The bar is fully licensed.
DStv channels are only available at the main lodge.
The river meandering through the lodge feeds the well-stocked trout dams on the farm, which is great for fly fishing. The dams are stocked with Rainbow Trout.
The pools below the 100m waterfall are great for picnicking and swimming, and the cliffs are home to the breeding colonies of the endangered Bald Ibis. The non-angler will take in the breathtaking views whilst hiking, cycling, horse riding, picnicking, bird-watching or just strolling through the gardens and grounds. A new swimming pool is available.

137 guests' feedbackWe had an amazing stay at the lodge. The staff were incredibly hospitable and the cottage we stayed in was perfect for what we needed. We will definitely be back.
Our weekend getaway was amazing! We stayed in the Twilight house with our small kids, and we truly enjoyed the walk to the waterfall and cave. The staff from the accommodation is so friendly and the service was phenomenal. Fishing was a bit on the slow side during our stay, but it was still nice to test new waters and to enjoy the great scenery. Will definitely return to the accommodation in the near future.
Amazing getaway!
The Kingfisher Country Cottages & Trout Lodge is situated in beautiful scenery. The lodge has self-catering chalets as well as a campsite and I would highly recommend it. The lodge is neat and clean and the customer service is very good. There is a restaurant on site and there are also hiking trails and trout fishing available.
It was a fantastic break.
Everything was neat and clean, staff very friendly and helpful.
We had a really nice stay. Both owner and staff made it feel like old friends ran into each other.
Had a great stay.
Awesome and tranquil stay in the unit. Everything was perfect and staff went out of their way to see to us. There is hiking, biking, swimming (in the waterfall and pool), games and so much more to do.
Very nice stay and a relaxed atmosphere.
Clean, private and beautiful. Got good service.
Very quiet, clean and tidy. Will visit again.
Was a lovely break. We were there during the week, so basically had the whole place to ourselves. Was a very relaxing break.
Second stay just as amazing as the first.
Very nice stay, the area was quiet and peaceful and we could really relax. Waterfall was a highlight.
We had a very nice stay. The nature is beautiful and the silence much needed!
See stars.
It's a trout lodge and there is a fishing allowance of R100 per person per day, and you have to pay R175/kg for all the fish you catch. There were plenty of carp in the pond, not just trout as advertised, it was a tough catch. The fish was also malnourished, I have photos of emaciated fish. They also have personnel management problems, everyone who cleaned left, apparently all the second group.
We had a wonderful stay and enjoyed the beautiful scenery. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and immediately made us feel at home. The shop and restaurant are also well equipped.
Restful. Picturesque nature. Friendly staff. Great food. Close to other attractions. We will definitely visit again.
It is beautiful and the unit was well appointed and clean. Everything worked, and our two Yorkies and parrot were together. It is quiet outside school holidays, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The apple crumble, trout, and steak and chips were top notch!
Beautiful and clean. Most beautiful hiking trails, waterfall and fishing ponds. Would go again anytime.
We enjoyed our stay.
Beautiful place, we had a wonderful stay. The view is breathtaking. Will definitely stay here again if we are in the area. The place is for us.
Will be back for sure.
The place is extremely clean and tidy and the grounds are really well-kept, the perfect place for fishing, walking and relaxing. The hike to the waterfalls was one of the highlights. All the staff was particularly friendly and helpful. We had an amazing time and we are hoping to come back soon.
Beautiful scenery. Excellent service.
Hiking trails are beautiful.
Love the staff, very friendly. Beautiful little house.
Very nice please. Nice place away from everything.
Had a great time, felt right at home.
Had a great stay, only sorry we were without power for 3 days.
Good fishing and a nice playground for children.
The cottages are small, but functional. Well equipped and very tidy. Beautiful surroundings, view and good service.
Clean, tidy and pleasant. Restaurant makes good food and we really enjoyed the visit. Can highly recommend it for any imand.
May l start by saying a huge thank you to Leonie and Hannes. You are incredible and your friendly smiles made me feel right at home. The room was comfortable and fully fitted. The bath jets worked. Whoever is reading this review, please order the pizza, it is definitely the best l have ever tasted! My only ask is may you consider putting a little wash line up just in case a little laundry needs to be done. Thank you again for a simply wonderful stay.
Staff very friendly and nothing is too much trouble!
Have a great weekend! The staff of Kingfisher are very nice! As always, our visit was just too short!
Great hospitality. Good food. Clean and well equipped chalets. Very well placed for stunning views.
I would highly recommend.
Wonderful scenery and neat accommodation. We suggest you book Fledermaus unit which has a beautiful view.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely go back again.
Such a wonderful stay. We loved the hiking, the fishing and the views. Booked 2 nights, and ended up staying for 3.
I will go back any time of the year. They are down to earth and the people are just awesome. See you guys soon.
All the staff were super friendly and welcomed us with open arms. The unit was cleaned daily, camping grounds is definitely a winner. Top notch food. Was really pleasant to be there and will definitely go again. We could use the WiFi at the bar, cell phone reception was not good as it is in the mountains and of course we didn't even miss the TV. In any case, one goes for a break to relax and be one with nature and not to watch TV. Also want to add that the photos on their website do not justify the place - it is much more beautiful!!
The accommodation is very comfortable and tidy with beautiful views.
Incredible scenery, cute chalets, friendly people, surprisingly lots of wildlife and birds.
The hospitality was top notch and the scenery breathtaking. Hospitality, natural beauty and delicious food in one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited. Here you will relax! We will definitely visit Kingfisher Country Cottages and Trout Lodge again.
Lovely walks and bike trails, fishing also good. Great relaxing getaway.
The resort is very well maintained, and has a lot to offer for the whole family.
Our family had an amazing time here. The entire team is eager to serve, which contributes tremendously to the overall experience!. My kids had so much fun and enjoyed the amenities. The shop could stock a few more things though, but all in all, great place!
Warm welcome, good service and great food and beautiful scenery.
Unfortunately the Love's Lure chalet, while otherwise lovely, is essentially a cabin with thin wood walls, making it basically impossible to heat effectively. The pipes also burst, leaving us with no water for at least a few hours. We left after a night's stay as a result. A pity as the place is otherwise really beautiful and staff are friendly. The hike is also pretty treacherous and the paths are not clearly marked.
Peace and tranquility! We had such a great stay at The Kingfisher Country Cottage & Trout Lodge. Upon our arrival we were kindly greeted by the owners. We received a complimentary glass of sherry and Gary gave us a tour of the grounds. We only stayed for a weekend but we had a wonderful time. We had a delicious breakfast the next morning. Compliments to Cat and staff for providing us with such wonderful food. Gary, thanks for the tip about the swimming hole at the waterfall. Many thanks to Gary and Cat for their hospitality and friendly chats. Would definitely recommend The Kingfisher Country Cottage & Trout Lodge to fellow travelers! We will visit again soon.
The staff are friendly and helpful. The children were never bored. Has a very nice view of the valley. The dirt road of the main road is well maintained.
They have a nice campsite, we are already booked for a camping weekend. Really like Kingfisher.
What a beautiful, peaceful place! A lovely cottage with a fireplace, jacuzzi bath and braai on the patio. Gorgeous views of the valley and mountains. Friendly, efficient management. We had the best weekend, taking long walks and picnicking next to the dam.
Beautiful view, peaceful farm atmosphere. Nice fishing ponds, enough space for children to ride bikes and run around. Lodge was fully booked and there is more than enough room for everyone. No one collides. Restaurant's food was great and good, friendly and helpful management. Will definitely go there again with kids, family and friends.
The place, the people, the animals and just everything was perfect! Definitely a place we will see again!
The waterfall and gorge are something to see! The accommodation was very nice, clean, sufficient and romantic. The service is fantastic. Nice farm feeling with very nice ponds for fly fishing. The chef (Tom)'s food is delicious! 5km dirt road is in good condition. Will go again and definitely recommend!
The owners were very friendly and accommodating. The place we slept in had everything we needed (as well as clean and tidy) and not to mention the wonderful scenery! Would definitely recommend The Kingifsher Country Cottages & Trout Lodge!
One of the best places I've ever been. The owner and the people who work there are very helpful and went out of their way to help us.
Breathtakingly beautiful, wonderfully relaxed. I would definitely go again and stay in Hacle on Pond again.
Enjoyed terribly. Beautiful setting and really worth it. Had a great sleep and the management and staff very helpful and friendly. Love the place especially because it is pet friendly.
Pleasant staff, ideal location and value for money. Thanks Gary.
Friendly staff with good service, restaurant food excellent.
Animal friendly, that's always a bonus. Bed linen and towels fresh and clean.
The unit was clean and serviced daily, plenty of wood provided. The fishing was a pleasure and the scenery from your porch is breathtaking. Definitely value for money. Restaurant's food was very tasty.
The chalets are well equipped and tidy. In addition to the trout ponds, there is also a pond where carp can be caught and a great advantage for those who want to 'swing pap'. The surroundings are picturesque and the animals on the grounds which give it a farm atmosphere make it very special. The staff were all very friendly and there was a lovely, relaxed atmosphere. The grounds were also very neat and well maintained.
Nice stay in Mayfly chalet with nice views over valley. Walked trail to waterfall. Good bird watching spot.
Very nice house. We were lucky because we were allocated a bigger house and were glad about it because a smaller one would have been very small. Priced a bit high, but see there are also camping facilities, so we would love to come back.
A lovely scenic place to stay with delightful open spaces for little ones. Easily accessible fishing spots and overall good place to stay for the whole family.
Made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Clean chalet in a very safe feeling environment. Everything was most pleasant and will certainly recommend the lodge and return as soon as we can. A perfect place to relax and unwind and close enough to Johannesburg to make it an ideal weekend getaway (although you will want to stay a week)
Thank you Gary and Cat, our stay was just what we needed. From the moment we got there till the time we left, we felt welcome and part of the "family". The cottage was awesome with wonderful, tranquil views and we just enjoyed taking in the peace and quiet and beauty of it all. The sound of the waterfall and the variety of birds chirping and going about their daily routines was something special. Hubby also loved the fishing. Will definitely be back. Take care and God bless.

The Kingfisher Country Cottages & Trout Lodge exceeded all our expectations! We were looking for a quiet place where we could relax and recharge. The Kingfisher Country Cottages & Trout Lodge was exactly what we needed! We could not stop looking up at the incredible views and landscapes and the tranquility is palpable. The Kingfisher Country Cottages & Trout Lodge also go the extra mile with a few bags of wood ready at your front door and a self-help shop with the essentials. We would definitely recommend them and visit again!
Fantastic weekend, awesome views, great facilities, gorgeous food, neat and clean. We enjoyed our stay tremendously and will definitely visit the resort again. We will definitely recommend it to family and friends.
The directions to the lodge can definitely be improved.
Unbelievable experience with stunning views. Totally exceeded our expectations and the cottage was neat, clean and perfect on our arrival. Management welcomed us with super friendly service and gave us a tour before checking in. The service received was out of this world! Would definitely recommend to anyone, wanting to get out of the city to enjoy a peaceful experience and great views. Good for couples or families and caters for all your needs. Would be seeing us again soon!
It was wonderful to just relax and forget about everything a little in the current situation we are currently in. Did a lot of walking, went to the waterfall and just enjoyed everything in nature. The reception and friendliness of the staff was very good. Makes you feel like you are family. Will go again for sure.
Friendly reception. Breathtaking scenery. The unit was painfully neat and clean. The waterfall is of course a "must see"!
Very nice lodge. Our little house had a very nice view. It was quiet and peaceful, exactly what we were looking for. Good and friendly service.
Helpful people, friendly. Clean. Will definitely go again.
Reception was excellent, pleasant. Accommodation was first class. Friendliness and service unbeatable.
I loved the break. Beauty all around. Silence. Nature. Idyllic!
This was our 5th visit in 12 years...we keep coming back and it has to confirm that this is a great destination!
Peaceful, hospitable, beautiful surroundings and delicious food.
Very friendly and hospitable people, neat overnight facilities with a breathtaking view and beautiful sunsets over the trout ponds.
It is one of the neatest places. Incredibly quiet, beautiful farm atmosphere, beautiful in the chalet. It is just the place, which we will recommend again and again. It was a privilege to stay there! Their food was perfect at well! Thank you.
Except for the friendly service, the lodge also offers the opportunity to walk around in nature and to see the waterfall.
We will definitely use this opportunity again for a break to Kingfisher Lodge. The whole experience from arrival to return was truly delightful and would recommend it to anyone.
The area is wonderful and the client service is good. We had a great time and relaxed nicely.

Our Easter weekend was wonderful using Kingfisher as our base for touring all the surrounding towns. It was very nice to also use the restaurant for all the meals that we did not take care of ourselves. I believe if we wanted to fish the weekend would have been even better! We would easily recommend Kingfisher to anyone looking to stay between Machadodorp and Waterval Boven and we would definitely stay there again. Full marks to Elsabe, Vic, Cathryn, Gary and Tom for the excellent hospitality. I regret that we didn't even have time to see the waterfall and will definitely return for that.
Lovely stay! Welcoming hosts, delicious food, crackling fires, beautiful scenery, worth-your-while waterfall hike and homey all-you-need cottages. Everything adds up to a perfect romantic weekend away! We will definitely see you again.
Good location, gravel road accessible for vehicle with good ground clearance in wet season. Lovely accommodation in good units, very good restaurant with good chef. Cheaper and much nicer to eat there than to pack everything in. Keep up the good work.
Incredibly friendly reception. Very clean and tidy site and units and breathtaking view from Walkers Killer. The climb to the waterfall was definitely worth it.
Beautiful chalets with breathtaking views. Hospitality was special and you want to go there again soon. Fly fishing is exciting and dams are beautifully maintained. Large Jacuzzi tub in the room was an absolute luxury! Ideal for a lovely romantic weekend!
The owners and staff are very friendly and very helpful, the food is delicious! Accommodation is clean and beautiful!

Hospitality is great and good for the soul.
It was the first time we visited this establishment so I was not sure what to expect. I booked it based on the good reviews I saw. The reviews were accurate in describing the standard of the establishment in that it was peaceful, clean and good value for money. When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised at the beauty and tranquillity of the place. The owners were super friendly and helpful and the lodge was well equipped and clean. All in all it was a great stay, made so much more memorable given that I caught 7 trout in one afternoon. Baie dankie julle.
Ek het elke oomblik geniet tot die dag van die reën, die mense is so vriendelik, kon dit nie glo nie, en op 'n plaas nogal.
Excellent hospitality and value for money.
The warm reception soon made us feel at home. A beautiful place full of natural beauty, where you can relax and find yourself again. Chef Tomas provided excellent food. It was value for money for sure, I would recommend it. We will definitely go again.
You sometimes forget what hole you find yourself in through the hustle and bustle of life until you come to a place like Kingfisher Country Cottages and then you appreciate again the humanity, the warmth and care of auntie Elsabe and staff. The beauty of nature and just the opportunity to experience the truly important things in life. Hope to visit there again soon.
Its a very beautiful and relaxing setting. In nature and very relaxing. There is a beautiful Waterfall that you can walk down to and this was a wonderful walk.
Will definitely to back.
Absolute heaven, thank you Kingfisher.
This lodge is just fantastic. The advertisement does not do it justice. We were pleasantly surprised. Will definitely be back very soon.
We had a very warm welcoming, we felt as if we had been going there for years. Facilities were top notch and well maintained. A wonderful weekend getaway.
It was definitely value for money, incredibly relaxing and nice to go for a walk, especially the waterfalls are so very beautiful.
Had a very nice stay and slept well. The view is breathtaking.
We received a very special and friendly welcome. Everything was explained to us how things work at The Kingfisher. Stay ready with the necessary wood for your fireplace and barbecue. The most wonderful thing about the weekend is the honesty book that is filled in by yourself if you take anything from the shop or enjoy it at the bar. Always heard of such places, but experienced it here. Zirkea and Gary were on duty this weekend. You will not find friendlier two people. They enjoyed watching the rugby with us. The chef served us chicken on the spit which was delicious. Everyone who went home on Saturday night had a good time together. The main lodge is beautiful with its restaurant and lounge area. I was fortunate to be able to catch quite a few Trout after Zirkea brought me the luck. We went as strangers, but can assure you we felt like part of the family when we had to go back. Many thanks to all the staff of the lodge who always made you feel at ease. We spent a very special weekend with you and we would recommend anyone to visit your lodge. Nothing is too much for the hostesses and hosts. We will discuss again soon to show our children that heaven does exist on earth. Thanks again and good luck. See you again soon.
We felt at home from the moment we arrived.
Beautiful lodge. Relaxing and very nice to get out of town. Will definitely go again.
Beautiful, neat, quiet and incredibly friendly service received!
A very beautiful and peaceful environment. If you don't feel like cooking, you can indulge in delicious food prepared by the resident chef.
Beautiful place with friendly people who are ready to make you feel at home.
Will definitely go back again. Very nice.
Beautiful nature clean with a beautiful waterfall. Accommodation very tidy with fresh clean linen fully equipped. View breathtaking. Lots of wildlife and excellent birdlife. Beautiful field plants and flowers. Nice well maintained ponds. So many beautiful photo opportunities. Delicious, tasty food from restaurant. Definitely value for money. Absolute unbeatable hospitality. A definite favorite peaceful, quiet piece of heaven on earth.
What a wonderful experience to be exposed to this beautiful scenery! Zirki and Elsabe's hospitality made our stay even more special, they really treated us like royalty. It was wonderful to be surrounded by so much beauty and warm hospitality. Will definitely go again.
The whole experience was fantastic. Place is very nice, owner very nice. Was offered free cake and tea on arrival. Will definitely go again and this time for longer than one night. Worth it!!
The breathtaking scenery, fresh air and tranquility was healing! The new owners' passion and enthusiasm extends to their care and hospitality. Definitely a paradise we want to go to again. The accommodation and facilities have just been redone and very nicely done. The chalets are great, clean, tidy, serviced and fully equipped. The trout ponds are full and the equipment for rent in good condition. Fishing is also available for the children in the "pap gooi dam". Pure farm atmosphere with cattle, sheep, donkeys, geese, dogs and game. The horse stable is already built! The lodge is also dog friendly! Definitely worth it! Highly recommendable!
Excellent hospitality. Very well equipped, with a spectacular view.
See stars.
Such a nice peaceful atmosphere with friendly people at reception.
Reception was warm and sincere. The farm surprised me with the scenery and beautiful waterfall. The food is fresh and absolutely fantastic. Thanks again Kingfishers.
What a beautiful, beautiful spot! I recommend it to anybody, we will certainly be back. Such friendly hosts.
Staff very hospitable. Nice stay and well rested.
The service of all staff is excellent, you immediately feel at home with a very nice environment. Recommended for couples, family and friends.
Very nice, good location, breathtaking view.
From the time we arrived until we left, we were living in a dream. The setting is out of this world and caters for fishermen and "others" to the full. Gary and Zirkea made us feel at home and nothing was too much trouble for them. Tom (chef) prepared a trout meal for us and even took it upon himself to clean all the fish that I caught. Apart from the four trout dams there is also a "wild" dam teeming with juvenile full-scale carp. The waterfall walk is also a must and doesn't require any extraordinary fitness level. The close proximity to Jozie also makes this place attractive for weekend getaways. I will be back during the year for a "boys'' fishing break. Keep those dams stocked, you guys. Good idea to check before you go, whether "catch and keep" is in force due to hot weather! Good luck with all your ideas and plans to uplift the property to increase our comfort.
Thank you for the warm welcome. It was an incredible weekend and we will recommend it to young and old alike. May you be blessed on this piece of heaven on earth.
Beautiful scenery. Sufficient Ponds for Trout Fishing. Grass and trees around the ponds are cut short and do not disturb fishing.

The chalets are all service daily. The restaurant also provides meal and there is a menu available. The bar is fully licensed.
