114 guests' feedbackOvernight stay was nice, but too short. Will definitely use your accommodation again.
Great bang for buck place. Wasn't expecting much for the price, but it exceeded my expectations.
For my first time at The Manor House we really enjoyed it.
Excellent service from all the staff.
Enjoyed our stay. Our hosts were very accommodating and super friendly. Made us most welcome.
That bed sleeps the best and my husband agrees. And the tranquility, amazing. Even though we shared the place with strangers, but everyone respected each other's space.
Service was great. Location good in terms of wedding venue.
We had a great stay at The Manor House. Was comfortable and tidy. I also appreciate that they allowed my puppy there. Would definitely recommend The Manor House. Value for money too.
It was a great experience with lovely people.
Thank you, The Manor House for a great weekend. Thank you for receiving us so nicely and always being willing to help.
Our stay was an amazing one. Friendly service, lovely environment, safe location, just to mention but a few.
We needed a place to sleep overnight after a wedding in the area. Wedding started at 3. Can only book in from 2 pm. We had to book in as we knew we would be late at the wedding. But they were able to help us and give the key earlier. Then we realised it was a few rooms in a building rented out seperately.
The accommodation is very nice and tidy and good value for money.
Very clean and tidy and very hospitable host. Recommended!
The location is good, the house, a national monument is an experience. It was very warm, we enjoyed the pool. The included breakfast was good and delicious. The staff were particularly friendly, helpful and hospitable. Unfortunately I was badly bitten in the night, maybe a spider or two, it's now 2 days later and my legs are badly swollen from the bites.
Beautiful place surrounded by mountains and very peaceful with beautiful gardens and the Manor house was built in 1795 and they have kept all the heritage details in place.
Friendly staff, well organized. Our room was clean, neat and overall pleasant! Happy experience.
There was mould in the shower and kitchen and spider webs everywhere. We used a bottle of bug spray the weekend. Also no place to put your clothing. No TV and a radio that does not work. Place is advertised as a double storey establishment, but upon arrival, we had to navigate a really steep staircase to access the house. This turned out to be a one roomed bunker house. 8 people had to share one open plan bedroom. Would not recommend staying in the Mill House to anybody. The grounds are beautifully kept and I cannot vouch for the state of the other places on the property.
To get to The Manor House one has to pass through an unsafe area and the reservation system is messed up. The farm itself is nice but I would not stay there again.
Friendly and helpful service. Very neat rooms and delicious breakfast included!
We were kindly welcomed and the accommodation was neat and clean. We did only spend the night, but the surroundings were still, beautiful and peaceful.
We were well welcomed. Made to feel very at home. Fantastic breakfast.
I have visited the establishment a few times and I always feel home.
We arrived at this beautiful old Cape Dutch mansion with its beautiful gables between midnight and 1am on a Sunday morning, after a drive through the slightly 'sketchy' informal settlement called Sir Lowryspas, complete with street drunks etc. Since we were late, the friendly manager had already made arrangements with us earlier where we could get the keys and also left directions where our room would be. The room was well furnished, but we were slightly disappointed in the quality of the beds [have had better at other places]. Everything else had been very good. The next morning, the manager explained to us that they are in the process of replacing all the beds with new ones, that they have only been managing the beautiful place for one year and that Covid-19 has hampered their planning a bit. The breakfast we enjoyed there was top notch, with great service from the staff. The atmosphere of this old-world gabled mansion, which was already built here in the Hottentots-Hollandberge in 1795, is something that stays with you all the time. Hope to stay here again and see the century-old oaks again. The biggest surprise for us was to find out that the cost of our delicious breakfast was included in our overnight accommodation costs, which were already very affordable at R440 for 2 people per night.
We enjoyed the beautiful scenery and so the privacy.
Everyone of my friends enjoyed themselves to the fullest!
Enjoying peace and quiet.
Would recommend to friends and family. Would suggest more blankets as it gets really cold at night. Hospitality was really nice and welcoming.
Our hosts were very friendly and accommodating. The venue was lovely and for the most part very tranquil - avoid staying Saturday and Sunday (unless you're out for the day) as day visitors come to picnic and use the pool. Very conveniently situated. We'll definitely return should we be in the area.
Beautiful historical house with yellow wood floors in secluded, beautiful, tranquil garden full of large trees. Close enough to Somerset, Stellenbosch or Gordon's Bay for shopping and the beach, but far away from the hustle and bustle of city life - a space where my soul can breathe. We enjoyed 2 nights stay and had a special champagne breakfast to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We will make a plan to visit there again!
We had a great stay, just too short. Quiet and away from the 'hustle and bustle' of the Cape.
Fantastic.
Lovely fireplace. The open plan layout makes it very cozy for friends to have a good time.
To get there you drive through Sir Lowry village which is quite run down and we were getting worried. But then all of a sudden you enter into a new world! We loved it, the pool was great. The view is fantastic. Security guard 24 hours. Had good WiFi.
It wasn't the quality.
See you again. Loved the owls.
The stay was very nice, but was very unhappy when we checked out on Sunday. We weren't even out of the rooms when the cleaners were on us. Didn't even give a chance to just finish, and it was our first visit there.
Was neat, WiFi just didn't pick up properly. Had a nice stay.
We felt like being on a lonely island just the two of us.
We were well received but were treated like throw away children were chased away from the premises because we checked out a few minutes later anyone can make a mistake and were treated very badly.
Pressure of shower very weak. Very warm and fan too small. Water undrinkable. Get bottled water. Toilet very small.
Neglect in important area's, such as bathroom and bedding, kitchen equipment.
When we arrived there was a lot of noise from the day visitors (nothing on the website that day visitors are allowed). Then I had to run through a spreader to get to the front door. On inspection of the pool we had to find out that the day visitors had taken it over. Later that evening when we wanted to go swimming, we saw that the water was very dirty and oily from use by the day visitors. Our room had no air conditioning, only a small fan, also no fridge in the room (it was about 37 degrees). The 2nd room where our children aged 22 and 20 slept was terribly small and had another smaller fan which made no difference whatsoever. With the first shower, the shower head came off. On the plus side the surroundings are very nice and peaceful (after the day visitors have left), unfortunately you have to drive through Sir Lowrys Pas Village to get to the guest house. So overall not a very good experience.
Typically Cape, nostalgic and warm.
One gets the feeling that you are isolated in a hidden corner of the Cape where the hectic life cannot reach you. The decor is simple, functional and elegant. With the opening of a door or a window, you are outside in peaceful nature. A request for comfort access due to recent leg surgery was attended to and we were moved to a more comfortable room at no extra charge, even though we were willing to pay more.
Sanctuary, an excellent place to to get away from your everyday life.
We enjoyed a fantastic visit.
An amazing location taking you away from the hustle and buzz of the city lives. Breakfast was very good and done with elegance. Staff was helpful and friendly, the entire stay was breathtaking. I definitely would go there again.
I love the view in nature with the sound of birds and animals, waking up smelling fresh air, quiet getaway for the individual who wants to escape from the daily rush of the city center.
At the time of our stay we had a small family crises. My hubby spoke to the manager Carol and she sorted out so quickly. With just simple yes/no problem. That was a wow-moment for me. Thank you so much Carol! I would like to thank the management and staff of the Manor House for going above and beyond for us as a family. A big thank you! NB: Our-stay there was amazing, wonderful and relaxing. We will definitely return with family and friends.
Carol and Ed are fantastic hosts, who run this huge, beautiful establishment with warmth, professionalism and enthusiasm. They are the perfect hosts of the grand old Manor House, which is one of the nicest stays we have ever had. It is good old-fashioned hospitality at its very best, in beautiful, peaceful, natural surroundings. The bed was amazingly comfortable, the room was lovely, the breakfasts are scrumptious and the staff are efficient and friendly. This is one of those places we will come back to many times.
From the time that my wife and I set foot at The Manor House, Sir Lowry Pass on Monday, 28 December 2020, we were greeted by a very friendly staff and management. Our 6-night stay was wonderful and we are planning our next stay at The Manor House for 2021, but this time we shall definitely stay much longer because of the scenery and calm quiet effect one experiences. We have sent pics of our cottage and court yard to friends and family and all of them want to visit this beautiful and stunning place.
Was great, really enjoyed the time.
I definitely recommend it for city dwellers looking for a quiet peaceful getaway. Will definitely use them again.
Very relaxing. Pleasant.
Friendly staff. We had a problem with one of the lights and someone came to fix it immediately. The views around are amazing.
A must to go for any couple or individual who needs a break away.
I am rebooking soon.
Shared kitchen. Upstairs rooms not for us. Fortunately the person in charge moved us to the ground floor. Leaking toilet was a bit disturbing.
The attic room was stuffy, with a peculiar smell. The floor was sticky. The bedding was clean and tidy but the room was not. The roof room was difficult to reach with narrow and steep stairs, luckily there was help available. The gardens were beautiful and breakfast delicious.
This is our second time staying at the Manor House and this time we got the Garden Cottage which was great. Our own little garden and lots of privacy however, there was bar fridge that was leaking and also had an off smell which needs to be looked at. We had to put down a cloth for the leakage. Also the shower needed a proper clean and there were a few broken shower floor tiles, which also needs to be looked at. Other than that it is a great place.
We all shocked when showering in the cottage.
The garden with its years-old trees is neat and nicely preserved. The main building exudes a sense of style.
For me and my wife, our stay at The Manor House was wonderful. Upon our arrival up until us leaving we had a pleasant experience and the owner/manager made our stay very comfortable and we would like to go back again for a much longer stay next time. The cottage and gardens are well maintained which gave the feeling to unwind and enjoy the blissful experience of nature. I definitely would recommend the manor house to anyone as their hospitality and friendly warm atmosphere, made us feel at home.
I stayed in the garden apartment - it was very comfortable and had outdoor braai facilities, but please note. note that this is not self-catering accommodation (only cups are provided - there is no bar fridge and other cutlery). Meals can be enjoyed at the restaurant in the main building. The surroundings are beautiful and peaceful. On Sunday mornings there is a myRun that takes place. Breakfast was tasty and reasonably priced.
We asked to move from smaller room to bigger downstairs because of my back injury and when we went to pay the difference the owner said its not necessary. This was a welcome surprise. The breakfast was more than expected for the amount of R35.
We arrived later then planned and a staff member had to wait on our arrival before he could go home. He was so friendly we apologised for arriving so late (we came straight from work) he kept telling us to stop apologising but we felt so guilty because he still needed to travel home.
On arrival a very friendly lady helped us to check in. Everyone has been friendly. Felt like family with everyone working there. From the ground staff to the owners. The rooms are beautiful. Very clean and tidy. With the most beautiful view. We really enjoyed staying there. Breakfast was top notch. The pool was clean. We will definitely stay here again if we go that way. Thank you very much.
Carol, manager very helpful.
Really a cute, romantic place. Curtains very transparent. We would be happy to book again in the near future.
Very nice environment, nice and quiet. Friendly service.
Breakfast was not included but was really value for money. We slept very well here.
Buildings valuable and well maintained.
The reception was bad. The lady that was helping us was rude on Friday because we had a delay due to our car machenical problem. She even said we are going to sleep outside the gate. I had to over speed ???? because I came very far to sleep outside. Honestly we never intended to be late, but she was never understanding she treated us badly. In Atkv where I always stay I never got such treatment. I love that place but customer service is bad We were promised wifi but when we get there. There was non and no one came to explain to us. The electricity is weak . Always strip.
We had a get together at The Manor House.
Beautiful place that i would visit again.
Good service and easily accessible.
The Manor House is a beautiful place, with lovely gardens, and a tranquil atmosphere. I would go back anytime I can!
It was a very nice experience. The people were very friendly and made us feel so welcome. We got so much more than we paid for.
The Manor House is the perfect location, for a weekend break. Beautiful surroundings, peaceful and quiet. It is centrally located to get to Gordon's Bay and to Stellenbosch for day visits.
Thank you very much The Manor House, the place was small and clean, the reception by Carol was warm, very safe and well located, will definitely recommend family and friends there.
The Manor House exceeded all expectations and was a very pleasant stay. Everything was clean and in touch with nature. Five stars, will definitely be back there.
Situated in nice area, beautiful views, worth the money. Good service.
Very nice and rural, beautiful gardens and swimming pool. Quiet and rest for the soul.
Friendly staff. Second home.
The Manor house exceeded my expectations. What a lovely place, the people are lovely, anything you needed at any time, there was somebody to help. Washing was done for us on a daily bases, the dishes were done and the beds were made. The only small issue we had experienced, was the place was not cleaned before we arrived, thus everything was full of dust, and we had a major issue with spiders and other bugs. Other than that, we cannot complain...you guys are amazing! Thank you Manor House staff!
Value for your money! Would recommend it!
We stayed one night while on a business trip to Cape Town. We had the Loft Room, which totally met my eclectic taste. While we shared the 4 bedroom house with one other, it was enjoyable meeting someone else and there were no problems. I would quickly recommend this accommodation to others.
The Manor House offers reasonable value for money. The breakfast was tasty and sufficient.
Beautiful historic farm in a countryside setting. Wonderful accommodation. Everything very neat and clean. Enjoyed the braai wood and fireplace fire. Stairs may be a problem for people with knee or leg problems. Thank you so much for letting us experience this wonderful place! Thank you for so much peace and peace. Can recommend 100%.
The Manor House's hospitality was exceptionally good. The staff were very helpful and helped us immediately. The house where we were accommodated was neat, als was clean and decent. Packing facilities for our car. The standard of the place was 100% good. Will definitely go here again.
We stayed in the Garden Cottage, ideal for two. The private garden outside makes it very special.
Ek is mal oor die ligging en die rustigheid.
Our room was an attic room with a thatched roof. Felt like when we were little on the farm. Shared kitchen/dining room that has everything you need. Unfortunately, guests do not know the term "leave a place as you found it.". The room did not have curtains, which would make it better for ladies in particular. Will go there again.
Friendly reception and what a beautiful environment, you can see the management goes out of their way to keep things in good condition and it already makes you feel at home, the weather cooperated nicely and our stay was like a fantastic trip, and so it should be! Thanks to all the staff for a nice effort.
Very nice place. Excursions on the farm during the day and swimming in the pool. Not many people, so nice and quiet. Braai facilities in the evening. Only the Manor House's dogs had to be leashed. The little dog chased us.
Very pleasant stay. Overlooking mountains with farm atmosphere. Neat and good service. Just a pity that the bedroom and bathroom are not connected. There is also a very steep staircase between the bedroom and bathroom/kitchen facilities which can be problematic for children and older people.
Slightly disappointed in the rooms. Bath towels, no mirrors in rooms, simple and neglected. Bedding not clean.
We were four adults and one 2.5 year old child that stayed in the Protea Shed for six nights. At the time of the booking we called the Manor House to confirm availability of the rooms and the person who we spoke to said that they have cottages available for families and that it has a bath tub. Once the booking was made there were no mention/description about the Protea Shed or any pictures on the website (which has since been updated with pictures and listed as the Protea family).
Our room were Millers Cottage Room 4. Bed and pillows are not fit for human use, good for a dog bed. The mattress is so old it has 2 permanent indentations where people have slept on it for an indefinite amount of years. Using both pillows allocated per guest your head and neck is supported with a full 2-3 cm pillow filling. You cannot stand upright in the room. Hanging space for clothes are as unique as the mattress. The shower room (as no bath) is mouldy, photo on site is not of this shower room. A curtain in front of the window will go a long way. As there is a security light shining through it all night. Please be advised that you will hear every word spoken and all other human interaction from room 2 below you. Please address this issue as it only lead to highly embarrassing issues the next morning. With us being international travellers we did report this to management the next morning. No where is it mentioned that there is no TV or Wi-Fi available in the room. The shared kitchen facilities are not mentioned on the website either. The dogs bark for hours at a time. Wi-Fi is only available in and around The Manor House. It is intermittent at best. The breakfast is nice. Unfortunately this made for a night with no sleep to be followed by a full day of international flights for us to reach home again. This is a place that could be a little gem with a bit of money spent on the facilities. We found it so disappointing after having spent 2 weeks travelling and experiencing a phenomenal Western Cape, that met and exceeded so many expectations. If you require total isolation from technology, this is the place for you.
On arrival we only saw that you need to share a kitchen and living room. The room didn't have curtains in front of the widows, no fridge, just a bed. You can't stand up straight when entering the room as the roof is too low. Guests or building contractors where laying on the chairs when we arrived. We didn't even stay any longer and handed the keys in at the gate. Wasted 2 nights of money and had to search for new accommodation at 20:00 on a Sunday night.
I would like to thank the staff of The Manor House for their hospitality and friendly staff.
It was our second visit to the location and definitely not be our last. I will recommend it to anyone, especially if you like the country side and the peace and tranquillity. The accommodation is clean, neat, safe and the staff are very helpful and friendly.
Quiet and beautiful view, nature.
I would recommend this guesthouse to everyone I meet. It is an amazing, tranquil place that lets you feel like city life is far away, but it's just down the road. It is peaceful and the people are more than helpful and very friendly, it is an amazing place to be. Thanks for the wonderful stay.
Located in a very nice area, neat, safe and definite value for money! Staff are friendly and helpful. Thank you!
We were very late due to delayed flight. Was still very kindly received. Rooms nice and big, clean and well equipped. Breakfast was tasty and more than enough. The setting is beautiful, with lots to do and see in the area. Would stay at The Manor House again anytime.
The service was friendly, and the place was stunning. Would most definitely visit again. Very affordable prices.
Everyone was very friendly and helpful. I would definitely go there again. It was so relaxing and very safe.
Lots of adventure in reasonably safe surroundings for 4 year olds. Just watch out for the balcony and stairs if you stay in the Mill House. Friendly and helpful employees. Management is helpful and eager to help solve problems. The Mill House's roof is leaking! It's also very cold in the winter, despite the big fireplace. It is clear that this is a very old building, apparently 300 years, and it needs attention. Windows don't seal well, etc.
The Mill House has the potential to be a wonderful place. The hosts were friendly, helpful and warm, but the place was dirty. There were marks on the walls, dead flies on counter tops, and we had to wash out the bath ourselves before it could be used. We actually opted not to shower - and to rather do this at home - because we did not feel comfortable to do so. I slept on the couch as I did not want to pull out the extra bed because I was afraid of what I might find. There is mildew in the bathroom and the place is in general disrepair unfortunately. While The Manor House is lovely, and as I said, the hosts were really lovely, the place left us disappointed. I took photos to prove my statements. We did not make a fuss and we paid our way, but we will not stay there again and will not recommend it. It is sad as this is a beautiful place. We were also not made aware of the trap door that leads to an apartment of sorts below. This leaves one feeling a little uneasy. They supplied plenty of firewood, but it was very wet (but I must say, they were kind enough to give more firelighters). The photos on the website are misleading and make the place seem far more modern and well-put together than it is. The bedding doesn't match, the little mats on the floors are dirty and worn, the curtains are extremely dusty (I opened them to bring in some more light) and so on. The decor is really old-fashioned and does not match at all. We were given beach towels as bath towels - not really a problem (we would have been happy with a place that was tidy and neat). It's just that the website gives one the impression that this is a classy place and it really isn't. Again, I think The Manor House may be, but the Mill House is not.
