Stayed in Jacaranda, cottage is just excellent, everything one needs, just some steak/sharp knives would be useful! The view is magnificent, and the tranquility is amazing! The food is so good. I really enjoyed the Sunday Buffet; what a spread. The Jalapeno Poppers are the best!

We enjoyed our stay, although there are not many activities for the children on the premises. Citrusdal is extremely hot. Maybe consider equipping all units with air conditioning (e.g. hotel only had fans), and it was rather uncomfortable. Furthermore, the stay was pleasant.

We stopped over there from Namibia on our way to the Cape. It was very beautiful. The Jakaranda House was nicely restored and very comfortable. We drove there on the old Greyspas and stayed at the dams on the farm. It was an experience!
We had a great stay! And the restaurant is a must. The breakfast pizza is amazing. And the coffee is awfully good. Everything was just perfect.
My husband and I have been to The Old Village twice before, and we thought that the whole setup could work very well for a family festival with small children. It was also like this: each family had its own chalet, and we could visit each other again and again. The chalets were very nicely restored, and well equipped. Our children have great appreciation for the way the houses, some from 1752, are preserved. Sonia who manages everything is excellent! Thank you very much Sonia and your team. We also concluded our Family Festival with a delicious buffet dinner by Sonia and her team on Sunday afternoon.
A lot of space inside and outside, wonderfully cool in the hot early spring days with the opportunity to frequently cool down in the small, clean communal swimming pool.
Everyone was very impressed with the accommodation of beautifully restored cottages, and thoroughly enjoyed the farm atmosphere. Many thanks to Sonia and her team! It was the 3rd time that my husband and I were in Rooibos - this time with our children and grandchildren. We will want to go again and again! And now that we have seen the other houses, we would like to live in them too! We like the history that is so beautifully preserved, as well as the modern facilities that make a visit very comfortable and enjoyable. The free firewood is much appreciated! We were able to end our visit with a delicious buffet dinner on Sunday afternoon. Many, many thanks Sonia and team!

We stayed in the Smidswinkel cottage. It is a comfortable cottage that works well for a family with young kids. We enjoyed walking and exploring the orchards on the farm. A must for any family that loves the breathtaking mountain views and the outdoors.

What a wonderful experience to be able to stay at the Old Villiage! Sonia and her team's hospitality and customer service is great! Feel free to also sit down for dinner at the restaurant, their food is delicious and portions are generous. For atmosphere, one could not ask for better. There is not a part of any building that does not tell years of stories and makes you nostalgic. Feel free to read a bit about the history of the special old village and come and relive in your imagination how people lived and worked here and come and listen to the stories that the thick old clay walls and the smooth wooden floors whisper to you. For those looking for comfort, there is enough here and it's done stylishly and sympathetically with the rich history. The kitchen is furnished with all basic necessities, there is wifi, air conditioning, hot water, braai facilities etc. and all of it is precise and super neat and clean. Old Villiage, we will definitely see you again!
We stayed in a kerkhuis, a small traditional cottage. Very clean and comfortable. An old-style high bed in the bedroom. We arrived during load shedding and we were provided with additional lighting, backup candles, and firewood. It was great to sit outside for an evening braai.

Place is very old, but clean and tidy with modern facilities. The cottage was built in 1725 and it feels like you are walking back in time. Ideal place if you want dead silence. Sonia was very friendly and helpful.
Our hostess was very friendly and welcoming and we were surprised with an Easter treat on entering the beautiful old house. We will stay there again but do recommend that the kitchen is equipped with a few more items of crockery, for example, soup and pudding bowls.

Beautiful view from all the windows. House nicely furnished except for the very small TV. There was also no wood for the fireplace. Thought the braai was on the stoep, but you have to go down stairs to the braai. Unfortunately, it rained and we couldn't get some of the braai wood for the fireplace and we couldn't braai as we wanted either. Had to eat a sandwich. Couldn't find the WiFi password anywhere either.

We loved the peace and quiet. The views of the river and mountain are lovely from the deck of Rooibos. We loved the indoor fireplace, beautiful linen, and towels. The cottage has a nice big kitchen.

The place was quiet and nice.
The Old Village is a lovely place to unwind where you can rest properly. The swimming pool and restaurant add a lot to the comfort, especially in the heat of 42°C. a further surprise is the Art Gallery which offers an interesting selection of local artists. Can definitely recommend it.

We arrived mid-afternoon. Cold afternoon. Both (2) air conditioners did not work as well as the TV. The handyman was unsuccessful in repairing any of these issues. The blind in the kitchen did not open. Sonia did try her best to accommodate us. The kitchen blind would not open.

The hostess is very helpful and friendly. We had the Jakaranda house, the rooms are very spacious, shower heads are large and high with good pressure, kitchen is a bit small, but well equipped, and the veranda outside is great for a late afternoon barbecue with a view of the mountains ! Note if you have pets, that the house is not fenced. Unfortunately, there are no facilities for loadshedding, so maybe take a gas bottle/duster and lights with you! We really enjoyed our stay!
Comfortable house, peaceful atmosphere.
We were looking specifically for a place where we can take our dogs. We stayed in Rooibos with a balcony which workout so well. We were able to take our dogs on a walk to the nearby dam. On site is a beautiful rustic restaurant and bar with lovely staff and good food.
The silence did us a lot of good as a family.
Central location with everything needed in a very cute unit (Jakaranda). The N7's traffic doesn't bother you at all either. The hostess was helpful with load shedding (we ordered takeaway pizzas) and made suggestions for purchases in town. Nice view of the valley and mountains from the porch. We will visit again.
This is my 3rd (and for sure not last) time at The Old Village. The beautiful area and tranquility are just what one needs to get out of the city for a bit. The house is fantastically furnished and my nephew and I were able to have a nice barbecue every night with wood that was provided. The walking paths are also too nice. Special thanks to Sonia who upgraded us to another cottage free of charge before we arrived due to drainage problems in the morning with the cottage we originally booked.
Our expectation was exceeded, food was good, everyone was friendly and helpful. I will definitely come again with group. Thank you very much again.

We found the accommodation to be of high quality. Our house, Rooibos, was neat and spacious, and the fireplace on a cool winter's evening was all too delicious. In the distance we could see Citrusdal's lights. It is very important to me that guesthouses have boiling water for showers and baths, and we were not disappointed! It was also lovely to walk around the farm, and we are thinking of going there with our grandchildren on another occasion. When we smelled the aromas from the kitchen at sunset, we decided to sit down for dinner, and the "oxtail" and pea soup were top notch! Thank you very much Sonia for your hospitality, for your cooking, and for looking so carefully at this precious cultural heritage! We hope to see you again soon! Walk carefully!
Old Village is a great overnight stop. There is everything you need including wood, biscuits, small cookies, milk, ice etc. all inclusive. Meals are also very tasty if preferred.

The house exceeded our expectations. Jakaranda is exceptionally well maintained in the antique style and the house as well as the yard were very clean. Sonia is exceptionally competent and friendly. She not only made provisions for braai wood, biscuits, milk and water in the fridge, but also turned on the air conditioning earlier in the day so that we could walk into a wonderfully cool house. We chose Jakaranda, because our 2 children are already grown up and here each had their own room with bathroom. It's definitely very good value for money, and with Sonia's kind service, and the delicious Sunday buffet lunch, we'll definitely be staying there again.

It was lovely for us to stay just outside of town in this beautiful historic house. Sonia was kind enough to turn on the air conditioners early, so we could walk into a lovely cool house in the scorching heat wave. There is a lovely view of the surroundings from the veranda, with everything and more than we needed in the kitchen. The sparkling clean swimming pool also offered great fun.
Location is ideal for driving around for flower viewing at Biedouwvallei or Matjiesfontein farm near Nieuwoudtville, also visit the waterfall and quiver tree forest near Nieuwoudtville. Or you can just relax on Jakaranda's porch and sit and stare over the valley. Restaurant also on site if you don't want to cook yourself.

We really enjoyed our (unfortunately only 1 night) at the premises as is is stunningly located and the nicely equipped. We ware accommodated in the Smitswinkel house - on if not the oldest building on the farm. This house had a very nice yard as well as a ice terrace as well as braai place for us to enjoy, comfy beds and lots of character. Highly recommend when you are looking for something remote to escape the bustle of the Mother City.
We were at home in the Church House of The Old Village. The fireplace with enough wood made the place feel cozy during two very cold evenings. Would perhaps suggest extra carpeting in the kitchen and dining room on the cold cement floor. Extra warm blankets can also help. The place is well equipped and we were also able to go walking and jogging between the fruit orchards. The WiFi and TV worked perfectly.
I would like to recommend braai and more cloths or tea towels for the kitchen.

Lovely stay in an old farm cottage on a beautiful working citrus farm. The cottages have been restored so well and maintain the old feel nicely. Sitting on the porch with a cup of coffee and listening to the birds was great. Perfect place for quiet time and relaxation.

Loved the history of the place, the furniture very old and suits the place. Even though the bed is old and comfortable, it creaked all night. Feels like the bed has been looking for company. Was disturbing through the night. My child brought an air mattress the 2nd night and I slept on it instead. I like the hostess/gentleman to keep a distance, but not see or meet them at all. A little personal contact is always good.
This was our 2nd year staying at the Old Village. Absolutely love this place and the host Sonia, what an amazing woman. Really enjoyed our stay and the unit was breathtaking. Stayed in the Jacaranda and its well suited for a couple with 3 kids. The rooms are spacious and clean. And well separated.

What a fantastic place! We stayed in the 2-bedroom Rooibos cottage. That stoep is the best ever and made for a nice visit with a breathtaking view of the Olifants River and Citrusdal. The fireplace in the spacious living room provided extra cosiness. The rooms were painstakingly neat with crisp white linen and the smoothest ironing I have ever seen in my life. We will stay there again.

We spent the night in Rooibos, a lovely spacious farmhouse with all facilities and a fantastic view. The fireplace was a big winner. Extra wood was also provided. The Sunday afternoon buffet was delicious and plentiful. We would love to come back!
We were unexpectedly upgraded to a larger unit with a beautiful view.
The location of the accommodation is great and adds to the atmosphere we wanted. Calmness, tranquility and the greenery of the nature around you make it an ideal place to visit. It's very clean and has enough space if you want to get away as a group, family or couple. Our highlight of all is the fireplace that gives character to the open plan living area. I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend it to anyone who just needs tranquility and a nice getaway.
Had a very pleasant relaxing stay. Cottage is cosy with a lovely big fireplace for the chilly evenings. Helped that the accommodation was pet friendly (veranda enclosed to ensure that our husky could be left some of the time) even though he chose to chase the cows on one occasion. Tired him out for the rest of the weekend so it was an advantage. Pity we could not use the dining facility due to Covid but were able to order take aways which was great. Would definitely go again.
We had a great time cycling on the old pass, Gray's pass. There is a nice pool for when the valley heats up, and cooling in the bedrooms. The premises are spacious for four people. Even an on-site restaurant to spoil mum. Even with slow traffic, it's just under 2 hours from the Cape. Absolutely great place to sleep in Lekke.

Beautiful peaceful accommodation with the most delicious meals
We were at Old Village as a family for a long weekend. There is not a single bad thing I can say about our visit! It was truly a lovely break. We stayed in a newly remodeled house with all the modern amenities you could ask for. The children (and the dog) really enjoyed the farm and felt safe letting them move around there. The walk up the old mountain pass that starts on the farm was for sure a highlight of our stay.

The Old Village is in ‘n pragtige omgewing geleë en baie gerieflik. Die huis is ruim en het alles wat jy nodig het vir ‘n gemaklike kuier. Die plaas het lekker staproetes, ‘n swembad en restaurant. Die personeel was baie vriendelik en aangenaam.

The Smitswinkel cottage is very quaint and the interior is special also in the light of its unique history! The linen was crisp & clean(just struggled to get the one air conditioner to heat up in the mainbedroom as it was a bit chilly& an additional blanket per bed could possibly be considered for future guests.. Fortunately the following night the weather was pleasant) We were greeted with the beautiful sunrise settings seen peeping over the mountain framed by of the pictureque stabledoor. The lounge fireplace at night was a great delight, but keep a watch out for that one low kitchenlintol! Overall we had a blessed spacious comfortable& lovely stay !
We got very cold both nights. There were no heaters and only summer bedding. After we complained, there were crochet blankets on the beds but still summer duvets.
