Ian was the friendliest host I have met in years. His efforts to accommodate us with two dogs which required attention and petsitting, as well as our vehicle being too large for the parking facility, were laudable. Thanks Ian! Although the room and the bathroom are both very small, the use of the courtyard outside helped a lot to be comfortable, especially with the dogs. The unit consists of two rooms which share the bathroom, but it would be extremely difficult to share such a small space with strangers. We were very thankful that, against a small fee, the second room was closed for booking by other people, to give us exclusive use of the unit. The bathroom could do with some upgrading, but generally we were comfortable for the short stay.

Paul was really fantastic and professional with all communication and necessary information about the venue, our stay and even updates on loadshedding! I have recommended the Pepper Tree and we have added them as a preferred venue for our corporate travel needs going forward! There is just 1 thing I would have liked to know up front and that was related to the shared bathroom for the 2 rooms booked for my colleague and I.
The owner and management were very hospitable and helpful. Beautiful garden and the breakfast was very nice. Will definitely stay at The Pepper Tree B&B again. It is also very safe.
Very neat and centrally located, but note that parking is a problem. Breakfast is served late, so if you have to be somewhere before 8 o'clock in the morning you will have to miss breakfast.
Ian is a kind, efficient host. The facilities are more than adequate, the rooms are clean and comfortable, the staff are helpful and friendly and it is very good to have close proximity to Sandton, Bryanston and Lonehill without having to pay a small fortune. We loved the large, beautiful, peaceful gardens. Lots of birdsong, and virtually no traffic noise. I would recommend Pepper Tree to anyone.

It was very enjoyable at The Pepper Tree. I was very happy to be able to arrive earlier - the owner was very helpful and I was told I could come early. I asked for a quiet room and that's what I got. The breakfast was very pleasant and the dining room atmosphere top notch. Wish I had time to swim because the water looked very nice in the hot evenings. I would have preferred an air conditioner and not just a fan, but it was adequate. The rooms only have Netflix, but the WiFi works great! Thank you for a wonderful 3 days during a stressful exam.
Great value for money. Had a problem with the WiFi in the beginning, but the owner went out of his way to sort it out. The heated pool was a winner with the kids. Beautiful garden. Great location.

The location of the single room is not very good. I have to go to the back of the house past the kitchen and laundry room.
The owners made you feel at home without being intrusive. The environment is beautiful inside and outside.
The room (with access to self help tea/coffee/meals) suited me very well. The people are available if you need anything but they leave you on your own.

The Pepper Tree B&B was disappointing for the following reasons and we won't be making use of them again. They served the same boring breakfast 6 consecutive mornings, there should have been more variety such as we experienced at similar accommodations. Cheese, rolls, warm milk, boiled eg, etc. is options the owner should look into to make the accommodation better. Some of the other guests also didn't touch breakfast. Basic facilities are nowhere such as: A place for wet towels, only one bathroom also use by other guests and no place in the rooms which makes not nice for two people. No glasses, even in the "kitchen" you have to pour drinking water from bathroom faucet in to coffee mugs. Bottle of water or separate faucet/basin should maybe be considered. The are no dishcloths in the communal guest kithcen area so you can't dry anyting or clean anything. The "kitchen" is not part of the sleeping area it is separate. A bit much to expect guests to go out into the cold evening to fetch glasses or a corkscrew. No issues during the day but especially late at night this feature was an issue. This guest house doesn't provide the most basic facility such as a TV and no communal area where you can relax or watch television. They do have WiFi, but that's besides the point. So you find yourself trapped in the cramped room all the time without a TV option and only your phone as a distraction. This is an issue for visitors in an unfamiliar area. This caused us to leave as early as possible and return as late as possible to limit the time at the B&B. Interaction with other guests was mainly on the premises, outside, when they came outside to smoke. We have to highlight one big positive point - the security on the premises is top-notch and we never felt unsafe. They shouldn't market this place as a B&B because the second B is not up to standard. It belongs to the "self-catering" category because it really is just a place to sleep. They clean the room once a week and the guests have to make their own beds etc. the rest of the week. As seasoned travellers we have a fairly good idea of what the standard should be and The Pepper Tree has a long way to go compared to other similar establishments. The should market the place more honestly: mention the fact that there is no TV, that breakfast is basic and skimpy, and that there is no lounge, that you have to clean your own room and have to share the bathroom with other people. Then the traveller can decide beforehand if it meets their needs at the price. If we were able to cancel for a different place we would have, but we weren't familiar with the place and the cancellation policy.
