33 guests' feedbackWe had a wonderful stay. The most beautiful spot. The host and farm manager were both very helpful.
The Pines is a lovely cottage in the most beautiful setting. The cottage is well equipped with everything that one might want or need. I cannot recommend it enough.
Had a brilliant holiday - beautiful location.
We booked 10 days and it was absolutely lovely. The surroundings are beautiful, even in winter. The cottage is very well equipped and the manager stopped by every day to make sure we had everything we needed. Although it was July, the cottage was wonderfully warm and the fireplace very effective. Although we were warned about the road, we followed an alternative recommended route from Nottingham Road which was about 25 km dirt road, but the road was good and the surroundings very beautiful. If you are looking for peace of mind, this is definitely the place to come.
The cottage has everything you may need and was well equipped for the cold weather. Note the central area for the groundsmen and housekeepers is situated next door to the cottage.
We had a wonderfully peaceful stay at The Pines at Dondini Trout Farm. If you want to get away from city noise, this is the place to unwind in peace and quiet. The cottage was well-equipped, comfortable and absolutely charming. We look forward to a return visit.
Our stay was in a well-equipped and cosy wooden cottage surrounded by picture-perfect scenery of mountains and natural beauty. The host/owner was very helpful and accommodating to our every need. Perfect place for a relaxation breakaway! We will definitely be back!
Awesome location, quiet setting, and well-kept.
Accommodation was excellent. Owner is extremely accommodating and friendly. Everything I needed to know was well conveyed and arranged ahead of my stay. The cottage itself is stunning, the deck overlooking the dam makes for beautiful sunrises and afternoon sundowners. Very difficult to find a better value for money cottage in one of my favourite valleys. Already looking forward to the next visit.
Peaceful and tranquil. The accommodation was well-equipped and clean. One of the most comfortable stays we have experienced. Fishing was great and the dams were well stocked. We will not hesitate to book a return visit.
We will definitely be back to stay at The Pines at Dondini Trout Farm. If you are looking for a place to just be quiet, read a book, enjoy the beautiful views and do a bit of fly fishing, this is the place to visit. The last stretch of road is not great, but worth the trip.
There is a gas stove so with load shedding you can still boil water for coffee and cooking. MTN's signal was very erratic, but we didn't experience the same with Vodacom.
The only downside to our stay is the road to the venue has potholes and is run down.
Beautiful surroundings. Well equipped cottage with everything you need to relax comfortably. Very tastefully decorated and quality fittings. My only "criticism" is that the cottage is cold as it gets very little sun in the winter, but there is a fireplace and sufficient firewood and extra oil heaters. The tarmac is badly damaged with potholes from Rosetta to the farm, but if you take it easy and drive slowly it's totally worth it.
Even the bad road has its advantages. If you come from the Free State, the road is still beautiful, all the potholes are filled. We saw an awful lot of birds on the road: crested eagle, mahems, blue-crested birds, crested vulture (even saw one at the pond at the cottage). Was truly a wonderful experience staying there.
Fantastic holiday and excellent service. New location for my Midlands trips.
Needed a place to stay whilst fishing in the area. This was perfect. Very well-priced and comfortable. Lots of firewood for those chilly nights. Scenic outlook onto dams.
So close to the garden of Eden you will not find. Absolutely nothing wrong. Just all perfectness.
My new home away from my own, just too far to stay there every weekend!
Beautiful setting, a clean, spacious cottage with everything that you need. Trout dams are kept neat and clean. A wonderful, relaxing week. would love to visit again!
On arrival the host was very helpful. The home was clean and had all we needed to enjoy some time away from the hub and buzz of city life. Will definitely recommend staying here if you're looking for a place to relax or even enjoy some trout fishing.
The farm is beautiful and quiet, good for birding and wildlife, Black-crested eagles and jackals were our highlight. The unit is beautifully furnished and spotlessly clean. The house is well stocked with everything you might need. Being there in July, it was very cold in the evenings and mornings but the fireplace and other heaters helped a lot. There was limited cell phone reception, were able to make and receive calls, but no internet (no connection to WhatsApp, telegram or email), which I didn't mind though, it was good to disconnect. The only "not so nice" was the foam mattresses in the second bedroom, which weren't too comfortable. The roads getting there were very bad, a lot of potholes, looked more like Swiss cheese. I wouldn't recommend travelling on the road in the dark so please get there before dark.
The flat was well equipped, so clean and comfortable. The location is so peaceful and serene, the perfect getaway.
The location is a piece of heaven! Hospitality was exceptional. Well-stocked dams for fly fishing.
It was a very nice place to rest and be back in nature. Everyone was very helpful and the family really enjoyed it.
Only thing I can say is we are already planning our next trip back to Dondini, this time we are bringing 2 family members of ours, Sue-Haley, thank you so much for such a beautiful place. Dondini is home away from home.
What an amazing hidden gem - stunning and peaceful - will be back soon.
A lovely family cottage. Spacious, modern and with great access to the dams and river. Relaxed family atmosphere and great service. Definately a place to come back to, and to recommend to friends.
We had an amazing stay in this beautiful well-equipped cottage. From well before we arived Sue was an excellent host. Making sure we have all info available before we arrive and also checking in to ensure we are settled and comfortable. We even got lovely toasty bites to enjoy with our morning coffees. Attie, the farm manager, was very pleasant and helpful. We loved chatting with him. The fireplace and the oil heaters made our evenings so comfortable. The Pines is close to both Highmoor and Kamberg Nature Reserves, which both have lovely easy day walks. Even for slightly younger kids. There is also lots of space for the kids to play outside and they even have a rowboat for everyone to use on the dam. And what stunning views. Even with the colder rainy weather, we had our first few days we enjoyed our stay tremendously as there are many board games, puzzles, playing cards and books. We would be back in a heartbeat.
We travel quite often and I can honestly say The Pines was one of the nicest places we have ever stayed. For a few reasons: the place and area are beautiful, the cottage is furnished with such taste, extremely well equipped with everything you can think of, quiet and peaceful so you can really switch off. The owners made sure in advance that we knew everything we needed to know. Something that owners rarely do so I really appreciated it. It was a wonderful experience that we can recommend to anyone.
Our Psalm 23 weekend, He leads me to waters where there is rest. The most unforgettable weekend ever, surrounded by mountains, scenery and a beautiful trout pond right in front of the house. We can't wait for the next time.
Absolutely lovely! Great location and stunning views. Owner and farm manager incredibly helpful and friendly. Definitely coming back!
Crystal clear dams and tidy gardens. Very well kitted out kitchen, everything you could need. Wonderful fireplace, board games and plenty of blankets for cold winter nights. Attie, the farm manager, was very friendly, chatty and informative. Only negative is the main district road from Rosetta is very potholed, but this wouldn't put me off coming back.
