64 guests' feedbackBeautiful place with a peaceful atmosphere. Will visit again.
We had a lovely stay at Red Rock for 2 nights with friends. Everyone loved the place, inside and out. Wonderfully equipped with everything you need and more. Lovely splash pool even with a pool filter, just big enough for four. We spent a lovely time in it. Don't forget to order the delicious olive bread before arrival. The pride and exquisite choices of the owners are reflected in this beautiful place.
Such a quiet tranquil space (despite the donkeys waking my dogs in the middle of the night) beautifully and simply appointed accommodation, oozing style, made me want to pack up and move to the Karoo! Lizette's olive bread was a must! Hot straight from her oven to our door.

Our stay was very relaxing, and our host was fantastic, very helpful in every way.
Very clean and very pretty unit at The Studio. Amazing homemade bread. Very friendly hosts.
Very well-equipped cottage in a private setting on a beautiful farm. Red Rock cottage is cosy and has a lovely outside area for a braai. On our arrival, a delicious warm olive bread was waiting for us, thanks to Lizelle, our friendly host. We would return there anytime!
We had a beautiful peaceful stay at The Studio. Very relaxing atmosphere. Lizelle makes the most amazing bread, delivered fresh every day.
The hostess was very welcoming and attentive but very respectful of our privacy. She was very responsive to any queries we had. Her homebaked bread was delicious, delivered straight from the oven. There was a great indoor fireplace to keep us warm - the Little Karoo mornings and evenings can be very chilly. There are a few short walks to do but otherwise make sure you've got some good books with you. It's a place to really get away and have downtime and enjoy the beautiful sunsets over the Karoo landscape.
The Place is ideal for a break from the city. Pristine Karoo landscape surrounds the beautiful cottage with everything a family or few friends need to relax and have a good time!
Biked, walked and made a lot of fire. Wonderful, friendly hostess.
Nice cozy unit for a peaceful quiet weekend away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Nice view over the Karoo plain but not located on water. Unless you bring your bike there are relatively limited activity options. Cottage needs some equipment upgrade. Good and friendly service from owner.
Beautiful and well equipped place, very quiet and peaceful. Such a nice stay!
We were looking for a remote place with no other people nearby. The Place is very stylishly done and is an oasis. Will stay there again for sure.
We love the Karoo and this place is really special. So many open windows overlooking the Karoo plains. Private. Tidy. You only see mountains and bushes for miles. Can walk around. Nice barbecue. Guys, I can't sum up how nice our stay was and we really didn't want to leave. Lizelle is just such a pleasant person and so friendly and you can see she does this, because she loves people and she loves their place.
If you like the Karoo, an earthy feel and finish, The Place is the place to be! The most delicious breakfast, beautifully and lovingly prepared by our hostess Lezelle.
I have a very long history with Ockertskraal and will definitely go there again. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a quiet place away from it all and to watch the stars.
The studio has it all, lovely views, comfortable and stylish decor. Our hosts went out of their way to ensure our stay was comfortable and pleasing. Highly recommended, we hope to be back soon.

What an incredibly nice house. The hostess is very friendly, the place is stunning. We had a great stay and would recommend it anytime.
If you are looking for a Karoo getaway and place to stay, it is well worth it! I personally, will return again.
Almost a 4 hour journey from the Cape and well worth it and friendly reception by Lizelle! Our accommodation, The Studio, with its simplicity, beautifully decorated by Lizelle with her artwork, ensured us a well-deserved break. Whether you hang out on the front porch or the back porch, the Klein-Karoo will charm you with its beautiful view. A sink has never appealed to me, but this sink (swimming) bath hit the spot! Wonderful, just a diminutive. Yes, back home, with only the most beautiful memories that will stay with us for a very long time. We would welcome a portable braai drum.
Red Rock cottage was clean and just what a family of 3/4 needed. There are 2 rooms and 2 bathrooms. Large enough living area, with kitchen and a nice area to braai outside. There are cute places to visit in this area. Especially if you have a 4x4 vehicle.
If you like privacy and no crowds around you, The Place is the place to be. The dirt road is of such a nature that you can drive up to the cottage with small vehicles (like our Nissan Micra). We wanted to experience some peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle of the city and that is exactly what we got here. I definitely recommend The Place.
If you are looking for peace, quiet and privacy with uncharted Karoo walks then The Place is highly recommended. The cottage is very nicely decorated and finished my only criticism being the stove.
Such a nice weekend I just wish we could have stayed longer. I think this was the friendliest service I have ever experienced in my life! (thank you Lizelle). Loved the uninterrupted peace and quite - even took a dip in the plunge pool. The wood stove, the bread, the evening braai just me and my partner outside, everything was just on point! Suggestion - maybe a tuck shop with just some basic essentials. Otherwise, I highly recommend The Place.
Enjoy the quiet and area.
We really enjoyed it - excellent getaway.
The place was like a farm house, but with a picturesque vibe.
Very nice and peaceful. Friendly people and beautiful nature. Would recommend to those who want to live away from the noise of the city.
To start things off the hosts Lizelle and Joseph have an extremely well detailed description of how to get to The Studio Flat at The Place because one could very easily get lost in all that open land. That being said, we arrived safely at The Place. Shortly thereafter Lizelle arrived with a freshly baked Olive and Rosemary bread (which you can order with her) which we had with cream cheese and it was delish. After a long drive from Cape Town that plunge pool was honestly so refreshing. Once sufficiently cooled down we got a braai going. The kitchenette is simple and very user friendly. My husband and I spent our second day in Oudtshoorn which is about a 2 hour drive from The Place. We had an amazing night's sleep on both nights of our stay even got to chill out on the hammock for 2. Woke up Sunday morning to a car that wouldn't start and a puncture, just our luck. Lizelle and Joseph were so happy to help they drove my husband to Ladismith (closest town) to get his wheel repaired and brought him back safely, jump-started our car and we were on our way. Thank you so much Lizelle and Joseph, you guys and the place are so amazing we will definitely be back.
We had a really nice stay at The Place. Lizelle is an excellent hostess. The attention to detail is very good. The view, environment and whole experience is absolutely unique. I really wish we were closer to be able to stay more often. Absolutely recommend.
A wonderful weekend away in a very beautiful, peaceful environment. Will visit again for sure.
We enjoyed our time at The Place a lot! The vegetation was something I have never seen before, so extremely beautiful. The owners are wonderful people. The house itself was very neat and exactly what we wanted for a getaway weekend. Thank you Lizelle and Joseph, we have wonderful memories of The Place.
Never experienced so much peace. Was very nice and peaceful in the beautiful nature of the karoo. Self-catering. Take everything you will need with you. There are nice braai facilities and all household goods are there. Lizelle made us feel very much at home. Would recommend anyone to go to get away from the city noise for a while. Very neat place. I will definitely visit there again in the future. If you like nature this is the place to be.
We had a wonderful rest, the owners are extremely helpful, will definitely go again!
A man couldn't ask for a more peaceful place to refresh your soul and find yourself again.
It really is on a farm in the middle of nowhere. No signal, just silence. Beautiful nature and view from the Cottage. We stayed in the Red rock cottage. Also went for a walk on the farm. At least it's not too far from the town of Ladismith. Very friendly hostess Lizelle, she even bakes the most delicious Olive and Rosemary bread which is simply blazing hot upon your arrival. House is very well equipped; fireplace is great for winter. If you are looking for silence this is the place.
Silence, peace and tranquility.
Everything was very neat. They had everything we needed and the service was excellent and friendly. I wish we could've stayed longer!
The Place makes you enjoy the simple things in life again. It's really a place where you can relax and just recharge your batteries and that with very few accessories. The living, kitchen and sleeping areas are beautiful in one and it's wonderful. The birdlife is wonderful. Really value for money experience. You also have to order some of the bread (incredibly delicious).
We spent a wonderful, rainy weekend at The Place. The view over the Karoo plains, rain on the tin roof and the lovely fireplace was all we needed to switch off. Lizelle makes the most delicious olive sandwiches and is highly recommended! Als is sufficient for a weekend stay.
Neat, compact, quiet, walking opportunities abound.
Beautiful spot with all the necessary comforts, exceptionally clean and well kept. Can really recommend for a family outing to reconnect without electronics. Hostess Lizelle was very welcoming and makes yummy olive bread to order on your arrival and stay. Thank you for sharing your little paradise with us and our doggies, we will be back!
It was the perfect getaway in nature.
There is a song we sang as children: "when I get tired of life in the city", I go to "The Place"! Luxury accommodation on a farm where no one bothers you and where you can enjoy the sunset with something cold in your hand! Lizelle made us feel at home and was eager to help. She bakes the best olive bread that goes deliciously with biltong and butter for a snack before the barbecue. I would definitely recommend The Place to people who want to get away from the city to be able to relax in silence. It is also not far from Stilbaai so if you wanted people could drive there for the day.
Quiet and peaceful with beautiful Karoo. Very nice olive bread.
What a wonderful experience. Upon our arrival we were warmly welcomed and felt at home right away. The silence and tranquillity of the beautiful Karoo veld quite a thing to experience. We had the most delicious sandwich, hot from the oven, awaiting us on arrival. We had a braai in the veld under the beautiful starry sky. There is also nothing more wholesome than a cockerel waking you up in the morning. However, our visit was short cut because my husband got sick. Lizelle immediately came in and said that if we ever came back we could have a complimentary extra night. We will definitely visit The Place again in the near future. Thank you very much, Lizelle!
What a pity our stay at The Place was so short. Spending time in the mountains and the picturesque Ladismith surrounds was R&R for the soul. The place is beautifully equipped and comfortable. Friendly service not to mention the stunning nature. The fact that it is so far from the main road is wonderful because you are forced to focus on what Mother Nature has to offer. Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful place with us.
Even without rain and green fields as in the photos, the stay was excellent. The owners were very friendly, and the stars as if you could pick them. Can't wait to revisit this gem of a place after good rains.
We were pleasantly surprised by the comfort and convenience of the Studio. The seclusion, the silence and the beautiful starry night did our souls good. I would recommend it, not just for a stopover on the long road, but simply for a whole weekend or long weekend getaway.
We really enjoyed the stay. Nice quality time with loved ones.
Very neat and well equipped studio apartment. One can wander along the river and through the veld, and there is even a small wood burning stove to make the nit nice and snug on those chilly evenings. The short gravel road (+- 3 km) to the farm from the main road is navigable, but has to be driven with care with a normal vehicle.
It was a bit expensive considering the terrible amount of flies. For the amount (R600 per night) one would like to see screen doors installed. Lizelle and her family are very friendly and helpful. The place was pretty neat and clean except for the flies. The location of the apartment was just too close to the main house in our opinion - although it is very quiet, you don't feel private. The view over the field and the mountains was really something special. We did not feel that our safety was threatened at all. With the heat, we slept with the back door open because the only window is in the bathroom. The Olive Bread baked by Lizelle is delicious and fresh. Would definitely recommend it.
The Place is in very good condition, the hill right next to the house is fantastic for a sundowner. The hiking trails are a bit far with small children. The area was very dry when we were there in September 2017 and you can see the farms in the areas are suffering. Support the people where you can and use as little water as possible. Drink more beer.
House was nice and clean with all necessary facilities, could make a nice fire in the house. There was also wood available. Walking route up the river was beautiful.
It's neat and clean and Lizelle really looks out for her guests. Will be back any time.
Well-equipped accommodation for 4 people. Living area a bit small for 8 people. Neat and well appointed kitchen and bathrooms. For very cold weather, the bedding is a bit on the skimpy side. For a getaway and looking for silence, we would recommend the place anytime! The freshly baked olive and rosemary sandwich was a delicious bonus upon our arrival that evening, there. Also bought delicious fresh organic spinach, rocket and eggs there!
Was really a lovely experience. If nice and neat! The most beautiful most beautiful stars. Thank you!
Our stay at Red Rock Cottages was top notch. The house is beautiful, simplistic and stylish. The silence and beautiful farm hiking trails and swimming in the river were indescribably nice! Lizelle welcomed us kindly and her homemade bread is something to write home about. We enjoyed every moment of our visit and also brought some rain for the Karoo. The Place see you again soon!
Lizelle is a wonderful hostess. We were welcomed with a delicious loaf of bread and were able to order more. We enjoyed walks along the river, sitting in the sun on the stoep and braaing. There are interesting rock formations in the area. A great place to explore! We loved that we could take our dogs with us. Thank you Lizelle and Kevin.
My wife and I wanted to find a place of serenity away from all the hustle and bustle. We found this at "The Place." It was so peaceful and safe. When we arrived we were greeted by Lizelle and treated to a delicious home baked loaf of olive and rosemary bread, what a lovely gesture! The Place is for those wanting to escape into nature with walks along the river, birding , swimming, chilling out and enjoy the symphony of the frogs at night. We will go back some day!
The nature and the tranquility were wonderful. So is the olive and herb bread.
What a beautiful place. Tucked away from the road. The silence and scenery are wonderful there. We arranged with the owner for an omelette breakfast. It was top notch and so tastefully presented. Excellent accommodation.
