Very peaceful location, nice paths to walk with a beautiful view. Perfect getaway from the city.
Everything you need to relax in nature. From fishing, barbecuing and having fun around the fire. Grandfather, grandmother, grandchildren and dog children enjoyed it very much, thank you very much. We come again.
Just a quick overnight stay but now that we've seen the place we have to go back for much longer! We were moved to (The Homestead) which was an absolute treat and will book that again.
I have stayed at The Red Barn Dullstroom a few times, and each time was enjoyable. Lovely scenery and very peaceful. Just be careful of both the tar road coming from Dullstroom side for very large potholes and the short sand road up to the stables is in need of work and repair after the rains.
Stay was pleasant and the fireplace makes it even better. The place was clean and well equipped, and there was plenty of wood for the fireplace. DSTV didn't work, but even DSTV couldn't make it work, so we didn't see any news.
Beautiful houses, comfortable. Sufficient space.
Was nice, but didn't realize the rooms are about 100 m away from the living area. Living area is nice and spacious but due to wind had to close the canvas all the time, so we couldn't see the beautiful view.
It was cold when we were there, but there was certainly enough wood provided for the fireplace. I think the owner could put up some more pictures. It's really particularly beautiful. More beautiful than the photos actually show. Each room has its own bathroom in the house. Puppies enjoyed it just as much. Was delicious. Also has an outdoor shower which is very nice.
Looking forward to staying there again soon.
The place is beautiful and furnished with everything one could need. Two suggestions I can make might be coffee stations in the rooms - at least it's nice to sit on the veranda with a cup of coffee, and lights by the braai - inside and outside. Will visit there again for sure.
The Red Barn exceeded all our expectations. The Dairy Cottage was spacious and well equipped, and even had a fully stocked bookcase. John was very helpful and also helped with the right lures to catch bass with. In the early morning and late afternoon the springbok, nyala and wildebeest grazed around our house.
Definitely one of our favorites. Beautiful surroundings, perfect accommodation, extremely clean and tidy with everything one needs and more. Attention to the smallest detail.
Had a wonderful stay so peaceful and the animals around the dam was a bonus.
Red Barn gives peace to my soul!
From fishing to goats running past. Children always have a lot of fun!
The getaway was great and the views are amazing. Just a side note, there is no signal so if you plan to work from there it will be a problem. But a short walk up the mountain gives you a signal. Otherwise it was great.
Rooms are beautiful and beds luxurious and comfortable. Kitchen and living area are well equipped with comfortable seating, a good selection of books and a beautiful view. The natural beauty is breathtaking and the absolute silence, a blessing.
The view from the Stables' kitchen is wonderful and beautiful.
We had a problem with hot water - temperature not hot enough - and pressure - very low pressure on the morning of 16 June when we all went to shower/bath. I used the outside shower where the temperature and pressure were great but it was minus 7 degrees Celsius, so not a viable option for others. I had no signal to call the owner to attend to the issue and we were leaving early at 7:00 am to get to the next destination. Minor gripe was we had to go fetch wood from outside - 40 m away - when I felt that the wood could have been stacked inside for use in the fireplace. All in all a very nice facility.
Room was very neat and clean. The kitchen / social area neat and clean and well equipped. Might just put an old kettle in the room for early morning coffee, as the kitchen was a bit far from the room. Although I was a little scared because I stayed alone in the Stables, the full moon and stars before it started to rain dispelled the fear. Nice grilled meat and slept peacefully. Will definitely stay there again.
We spent a few nights at The Red Barn. We used the Dairy Cottage. The units are very well-equipped and spacious. Everything was very neat. We had everything we needed. Our kids could play nicely and we could properly recharge. I can wholeheartedly recommend The Red Barn.
We enjoyed our stay at The Red Barn (the Dairy Cottage), the owners were very friendly and welcoming. We love nature and being surrounded by animals, so this place gets a definite 5/5. The place was clean, felt like a home, has a nice warm fireplace, quiet surroundings - away from the main road. The lake is a nice spot to have a picnic, we spent a bit of time just chilling by it. The birds and trees book collection was an extra added touch for us as my partner is an animal and agriculture expert, so he thoroughly enjoyed browsing through it. Would definitely visit again. Thank you for this experience!
Relaxation on another level! The road is just something terrible!
The Red Barn was a pleasant surprise. The place is breathtakingly beautiful and very private. We will definitely go there again. So real place.
The Red Barn's beautiful scenery is exactly what one needs after a busy work week! The Homestead is very comfortable and well furnished and the dogs were also in their element. Will definitely go back again!
We stayed in the Dairy Cottage this past weekend and what an awesome weekend! The house is so neat, very beautiful and a very nice holiday home. We could go fishing, the children had fun playing. The beds sleep very well, the bedding was also clean, tidy and of good quality. The environment is very beautiful and peaceful. Would definitely recommend and would love to come back again for another great weekend away!
Heerlike naweekverblyf!
Beautiful clean house, big green lawns. We had a wonderful time together as a family. Will definitely come again.
I fell in love with this hidden gem and did not want to leave! It is so beautiful and tranquil, a little piece of heaven. The Daisy Cottage where we stayed is bigger than our house with 3 full en-suite bedrooms and a massive kitchen! There is even a wonderful outdoor shower, the kids thought this was so much fun! And the decor is lovely, really homey. There is a dam about 200 metres from the cottage with plenty of bass for fishing and there is loads of space to explore. Wildebeest and buck roam freely outside, and the wildebeest even sleep under the trees nearby at night. Thank you very much to the friendly hosts, Claire and John, for being so accommodating and making us feel very welcome. We will definitely be back soon.
Facilities are of high quality. Value for money.
The Red Barn is on a situated on a quiet farm a short drive from Dullstroom. Conveniently situated near the main road, it makes it possible for non 4x4 to get there in one piece. The secure farm area has all the units well spaced, so that everyone enjoys their own space in total piece and quiet. We stayed in The Homestead which is a well appointed house that can sleep 8 people very comfortably. The Homestead is great for large families with enough space to have a great break away. There is enough to keep yourselves busy in the area, and also enough space if you just need to relax. Dams on the property make it attractive to the fisherman in the family. With the owner's tips we were able to catch a few fish. With it being a pet friendly stay the whole family was able to enjoy this well kept farm. Plenty of space for long walks, in and around the farm. Highly recommended.
Hiking trails. Wildlife viewing, from the porch. Scenic. Games/activities. Boma.
The Homestead had a beautiful, large outside patio with a fire place which we used every day.
Visiting area is very well equipped. Rooms are neat and comfortable. Everything is pretty clean. Will go back for sure.
Beautiful view. Amenities excellent. Had a great time. We all really enjoyed it.
Everything one needs, road is preferably made for a bakkie but easily reached the destination with Suzuki Swift. Nice to see the goats, the outdoor shower is lovely. Place would work lovely for a group of friends wanting to get away together for a weekend or so. Large rooms, each room has its own bathroom. Nice garden that is closed for your own use. Big boma, lots of wood and a nice braai. Everything neat and clean. And nature is so beautiful.
The viewing area is ideal for socialising around a fire or in front of a fireplace. The bedrooms are clean and tidy and the beds very comfortable - there was just a noisy bats in the one room's roof. Except for that, everything was perfect.
We will definitely visit again.
Very nice peaceful getaway outside Dullstroom. Ideal if you want to switch off with minimal signal!
Beautiful venue, clean, neat, good location. Arranged excellently. Good value for money.
Comfortable rooms, friendly service and beautiful area. Will book there again. Thank you very much.
Black velvet sky with thousands of stars by a campfire, lovely fireplaces in every room and cuddly Granny Goose bedding. Plenty of firewood and lovely walking trails, blesbok that visit the trout ponds near the rooms in the morning, make this place ideal for people who enjoy and appreciate the outdoors. John and Claire go out of their way to make the visit comfortable. Delightful surprise!
We stayed in The Homestead. The house is large, clean, nicely decorated, tidy and has nice areas for hanging out inside and outside the house. The kitchen is fully equipped and can accommodate large groups. There are a few paths to walk or drive to see the ponds or the wildlife. The farm is peaceful and quiet and not too far from Dullstroom. We were able to take our puppy with us and really appreciated that. No problems signing in or out. Many thanks to Claire for the weekend, it was lovely and we will want to come back again soon!
Fantastic venue, amenities and setting for a diverse family (both young and old). Thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Everything was ready upon arrival, appreciated the arranged cleaning service and we were left to enjoy the place. Well equipped. Great experience and we will gladly return.
Red Barn is a good place to relax and enjoy nature. Recreational area needs a toilet and basin though.
The rooms are very neat and the kitchen and reception area is the perfect place to socialise. The trout fishing was a little disappointing, but I will definitely recommend The Red Barn for big groups who are looking for a place to relax.
I would definitely recommend The Red Barn to anyone who wants a lovely relaxed time away from home. Totally stress free environment. Lovely to spend the cold nights around a roaring fire looking up at the wonderful sky with all the stars. Our whole group will be coming back again and again.
Thank you to both Claire and John for being so accommodating this past weekend. We had a lovely weekend with our friends. The Red Barn is beautiful and there is so many hidden gems! Everything was clean and we all had a blast. From fly fishing, to long walks up the mountain and beautiful starry nights by the bonfire. It was perfect. Just be sure to pack in warm clothes for the evening as the temperature drops and you want to sit outside. I would definitely recommend The Red Barn to anyone! They are also pet friendly which is such a pleasure. We will definitely be back!
Very affordable. Really worth it.
The Red Barn was the best place to stay for our group. We stayed there for two nights and wished we could have stayed longer. The facilities are excellent and very tidy. There is a nice social kitchen/barbeque area for social evenings.
Beautiful rooms, but some of the rooms' windows could do with curtains for privacy. The kitchen/chill area could use a bathroom seeing as how it's a little way from the rooms, which is inconvenient for elderly people. The lights next to the walkway to the rooms isn't sufficient (solar) and a torch is a necessity. But for a weekend getaway it is a lovely place.
Fantastic resting place with very nice "scenery".
It's a lovely place to get away from city noise in rooms you don't hear passing traffic. Road to the Barn itself lacks attention if you don't drive 4x4. Matches and fire lighters must be available to make fires in delicious fireplaces in rooms and kitchens as well as for gas stoves. Great visit for a large group of friends or family.
It is a very nice place to hang out for a group of people. However, the bathroom facilities only in the sleeping area and nothing in the living area make it a bit difficult. Water can sometimes be a problem as can the daily cleaning service.
We enjoyed our stay but found the kitchen and entertainment area too far away from the rooms. This is especially the case if it's rainy or cold. I would recommend that visitors go with a 4x4 vehicle.
Very comfortable beds with lovely linen. There was a fireplace in every room. The kitchen/lounge/braai room has a great view over the dam and is very user friendly. Spent both night sitting around the fireplace!
