234 guests' feedbackHad a great stay.
Everything you need in a beautiful, safe environment.
Father-in-law traveled with his dog. Place was clean and tidy.
Well received, everything was right, clean and tidy. Had a good night's sleep and the dogs had a great time frolicking on the grass.
The Karoo night sky is amazing. Accommodation was as per website description. Check-in is very quick and simple.
Very quiet and safe, just what one needs. Als was perfect!
Pleasant overnight stop. Convenient and full of character.
Very nice and very peaceful.
Excellent service from Karen from Lucerne Lodge, as always. Padstal has enough for self-catering - unit is neat and clean.
The Shed was neat, clean and a welcome stop after a long day on the road. We wanted to experience the Karoo around us and we could definitely feel it, smell it and appreciate the silence. The unit was adequately equipped to prepare meals. It included hot showers, comfortable indoor and outdoor seating and wonderfully comfortable, squeaky clean beds for a good night's rest.
Lovely, spacious chalet with electric blankets to help with the cold Karoo winters.
Very nice and quiet.
Their mattresses need attention but otherwise we had a nice stay.
Convenient as an overnight stop between Cape Town and Johannesburg. Far enough off the N1 that traffic noise is minimal.
My husband and I stayed over for 1 night with our big furbaby. The house does need a little TLC (maintenance) as well as the pool, but having said that, we had a lovely stay and our furbaby enjoyed the grass area. We will definitely be back.
Very nice overnight stay. Stargazing in the Karoo night was something special.
Unfriendly reception - our reservation was first sought, impatient directions to the chalet. The power was off and we had to search for ourselves in the dark, or rather in the car's lights.
Very nice stay. Nice hot shower.
Very peaceful and beautiful! Excellent service!
I enjoyed the quietness of the chalets (no traffic noise from N1) and the superb Karoo night sky.
Wonderfully hosted by Karen, thank you. Amazing farm shop / Padstal and the best lamb and springbok pies ever!
They upgraded us to the luxury cottage for free. Was lovely. Everything needed was available in the house. Clean and tidy. The houses are away from the road and you don't hear the noise. Will definitely stay there again.
Neat and very nice place.
Relax after a long drive.
Large and spacious accommodation, more than we expected. Nice like this on the farm, quiet and peaceful. Very friendly reception.
The accommodation was great after a long drive, and the host prepared potato salad, braai broodjies, and a selection of meat for us to braai on our arrival. Delicious!
It was wonderful with you. Had a nice barbecue on the stoep and slept well. Amazing tails, thank you for your good service.
Great relaxation after a 960km drive from Pretoria. Quiet, clean, tidy with very nice braai facilities and swimming pool 15 meters away.
Lovely farm stay next to the N1.
Great hosts and location.
The manageress was very welcoming. Communicated with me via WhatsApp. It was our second stay-over at The Shed. On our return, we were upgraded to a lovely unit that had everything we needed.
Stayed here comfortably. Very nice braai area. Wood for fire was ingelsuit.
The manager was very friendly and helpful. Lovely gift shop. Small animal farm. Enjoyed watching the animals being fed. The stars in the sky were spectacular.
Restful. Everything neat.
Friendly and professional service. Great location with everything you need. Would recommend to anyone for overnight place.
Very nice and beautiful place with the most beautiful green lawn and nice farm atmosphere. Children can have fun running around.
The overview indicates that there are certain items and meals available for purchase at the convenience store, but you must pre-order all of them.
Ideal overnight stop between Gauteng and the Western Cape. Nice barbecue and stargazing.
Definitely worth interrupting your journey and enjoying a break at The Shed Farmstall. This was my second visit to The Shed, and trust me I will plan my trip this way again in the future.
We had a great time. Our place was very neat. People are friendly and helpful, and the environment is very beautiful.
The location was pleasant. Well-equipped.
We can't wait to come again. Karin is an asset.
The De Luxe chalets are very comfortable, with a large patio, lawn and barbecue area.
We got there late and they had salad, barbecue sandwiches and meat ready for us so we could just light a fire and barbecue and go to sleep. Cottage is beautifully laid out. Will definitely book there again.
Quiet atmosphere, excellent service, clean and tidy.
It is a great place with spacious rooms and everything needed.
See stars.
The accommodation was exactly what we needed and the lamb and barbecue we ordered in advance was delicious and very convenient to just throw over the coals. Very friendly and helpful reception.
Lovely place to stay over, everything was excellent, would stay there again.
Enjoyed the stopover at The Shed Farmstall & Lucern Lodge. Just sorry for the rain.
This is all we needed for an overnight stay - typical of a farm visit. Braai facilities were also good.
The Shed is very well located, close to the N1, but just far enough that the road won't bother you. The accommodation is well equipped and it's nice to wake up on a Karoo farm.
Road muddy. Unforeseen circumstances.
Very nice overnight stay. They just have to pay attention, the shower door's one panel is out.
We were on our way to Cape Town from Johannesburg and stayed at The Shed Farmstall & Lucern Lodge. Perfect for an evening's visit. Very nice braai area. The hostess even arranged for us chops and braai breads when we were too late for the paddock. Only downside is that there is no air conditioning in the units.
Room is very spacious. Good amenities.
Feel safe and absolutely relaxed, have stopped here several times.
Toilets in our cottage both lacked some attention.
We stayed in the deluxe chalet. 3 adults. Lovely farm setup.
Beautiful starry sky to look forward to.
The hostess was very welcoing, the environment was lovely, the cottage was needing mantenance but understandable post covid.
The Lodge will be ideal for a family with small children, due to the animals and entertainment area. Although the accommodation had all the necessary amenities, sadly it needs a bit of renovating. The area surrounding the chalet is lovely with a great braai area. Very disorganised in getting the key.
Cobwebs in shower. Beds neat. Old. Our unit was on the old side. Toilet makes a lot of noise when you flush.
No one received us. We went looking for our house ourselves. We got there at 4 o'clock, then it was loadshedding - at 7 o'clock there was still no power, I then sent a message and the woman asked if the power was still off. There is something wrong with the Eskom pole, sorry about that. There is only one working light that is charged. At 3 o'clock in the morning I asked again if she had heard anything and to this day I still haven't heard anything from them. No apology, no contact, nothing. I would definitely not recommend them. Once their money is in the bank, they don't care about the guests.
Very good resting place and the arrangements with the food were great, everything was in place and we could charge our personal batteries again for the next day's ride.
Friendly staff - has everything one needs.
Karen went the extra mile to open the store after hours for merchandise that was needed. Everything in the chalet was clean and tidy. Heaters and electric blankets were on. Whatever your heart desires.
Will definitely book more than one night next time.
All amenities were there. The bed was super comfortable. Just overslept to drive again in the early morning.
It was very nice as always.
We were unsure where to stay the Shed reviews appealed to us. The owner contacted us to check what time she could expect us to arrive and informed us due to the heavy rains over the previous 4-days she was upgrading us to a De Lux room at no extra cost. This was such a nice gesture as we had no idea of the area surrounding the room we had booked and at least we could get to our accommodation without having to go through lots of water. The 3 fans in the accommodation were kept on all night as due to the rains the mosquitoes came out in their thousands and we had to keep all doors and windows closed. The rooms had mosquito burners and the big can of Doom (bug spray) was put to good effect. This is not a poor reflection on The Shed Farmstall & Lucern Lodge but rather due to heavy rains but be prepared. There is a great supply of wood, fire lighters, matches and if you are prepared you can have a great braai outside. The accommodation was clean and comfortable and the rooms are far enough off the road to limit the traffic noise. The outside are and pool at the 2 De Lux rooms are great especially if you have children and they need place to run around after being in a car for long periods of time.
It was our third time here on the farm and once again we had a great time, made a fire and barbecued.
It was so nice to walk in the heat and it's surprisingly cool with the thatched roof - so nice and peaceful. To see the starry sky above you in the evening.... wow! The dogs also enjoyed the space.
Thanks Karen. Our stay was excellent. Everything we needed. We had a great barbecue and sat outside. Nothing was lacking and we will definitely stay there again.
Use of indoor braai may have been useful during the storm.
We enjoy and value places close to nature that are functionally managed. Lots of braai wood to grill the best Karoo lamb chops. Could also have delicious "saddle" lamb chops from Farmstall butchery vacuum packed for take away. Great value.
Overnight accommodation with everything you need. Neat and clean. Braai facilities with wood and fire lighters. We bought delicious Karoo chops and sausage from the paddock on the farm and bottled three-bean salad for the barbecue that evening. Great rest and before we left in the morning, monkeys came to say hello in the tree, but didn't bother. Beautiful Karoo sunset.
Just want to mention that directions from Bloemfontein's side are poor. I drove by first. The shower door is broken, center panel is out - so floor is full of water when you've finished showering. Otherwise no problems. Slept nice and warm with electric blanket.
Would've been the perfect place if the swimming pool were functioning. Kids were disappointed.
And so probably one of the worst thunder and rain storms, which this part of the Karoo has had in years, hits us upon our arrival and during the course of the evening and night. Apart from the fact that (one can obviously understand this after such a long drought) the Karoo inhabitants are not prepared for the appalling amount of rain that fell, the accommodation was pleasant and quite suitable for a night's stay on the way to Cape from Johannesburg. The thatched rondavel/chalet is well equipped with everything one needs for the evening. As a result of the heavy rain, the unit's roof leaked in several places and we had to make a plan to catch the water by placing pots and pans under the leaking spots. A suggestion would be that the units' zinc and grass roofs are properly sealed to prevent any future leaks. The floors of the unit were not completely clean to our standard on arrival. There were centipedes and grasshoppers on the floor and in the shower (you could tell they had been on the unit floor and in the shower for a day or two). A further suggestion would be to make sure (about an hour or two before travelers' arrival) that the unit is 100% clean. However, the bed and bedding, cutlery and plates as well as the kitchen surfaces and bathroom were clean and tidy. We would like to say a big thank you to Karen, as well as the friendly Uncle who immediately assisted us and came to help when the water supply to the unit was cut off due to the heavy thunder and rain showers. The water supply was quickly restored. The door of the unit opens and closes with great difficulty. Maybe pay attention to its repair/maintenance. . Last suggestion would be to install television facilities, alternatively Wifi in the units. The mobile phone reception is also very poor in the units. Overall though, it was a good place to stay overnight after a long drive from Johannesburg. The Karoo and surroundings are beautiful, as always.
We were not notified of this nor any apology offered.
Second time we stay here. It is as if the maintenance and cleanliness has weakened slightly compared to the first time about 3 years ago. Perhaps more needs to be done to help protect against the mosquitoes. It was a surprise to experience so many mosquitoes.
Comfortable, but lacking those little things one expects: Good coffee, not Ricoffee. A little paint for peeling walls. A little more milk in the fridge.
The pool needs a lot of attention, looks like it has been out of order for a long time. The place is clean and tidy but needs maintenance. The lights don't work, shower door is broken. Mattresses are rock hard or need to be replaced. Very cute little shop and good food.
We arrived at the overnight stop later than planned. It was already dark and since we spent the night there the first time, the direction signs to the overnight place were not good and we struggled to find it. We were struggling to turn around with a trailer with a motorcycle on it after taking a wrong turn towards the cottages and it was pitch black without any lights. After a call, a man came to help us and pointed us in the right direction. However, there was no one to welcome you and the heaters on the walls did not work. The first impressions were therefore not very good, but we nevertheless slept nice and warm in a good bed. Thank you very much!
It was a place to sleep near the function venue where the wedding and Sunday breakfast were. Clean and nice shower. I just needed bed and slept well in the fresh farm air. I was a little disappointed that construction waste and garbage was visible from the kitchen vestibule. Some of the slate was loose and I cut my foot and some loose stones are not nice to step on even if you are a farm kid. Missed the farm friendliness a bit, not my idea of farm stable ethics.
For the price, one also expects much better quality of beds. That's the most important thing with this location, after all.
Very nice, peaceful stay. Great place to stop on the way to the next destination. Farm animals that the children can feed. Hostess even arranged for my child to feed the springbok. Great experience.
We had a wonderful stay for a single night on our way to the Cape. The pool was fantastic for the kids and parents. The Shed is absolutely set up for the overnight stop. There was everything we needed: From mosquito mats in the plugs that just need to be switched on, to fire lighters, wood, clean grills, dish soap, drying towels etc. This overnight stop is highly recommended!
A must for every traveler looking for a place to stay. Staff are incredibly helpful and the accommodation is 5-star quality.
Neat and friendly. Just very nice.
Very nice place, nice clean and quiet!
Good location, very neat and clean, shop on site a huge bonus!
As always, best stop in the Karoo!
Friendliest owners. All I would do differently is stay a day longer. See you again soon! There is nothing they haven't thought of in the house.
The cottages were very well equipped and we really enjoyed sleeping there. Will definitely stay again.
Neat place to stay and visit in the Karoo. Well equipped, we barbecued with what was there, we didn't need to provide anything but the meat. Get ready for a friendly reception.
I suggest attention is paid to several small defects in chalet 4. Wall heaters, some of the accessories at the braai, outflow of water in the shower, cupboard doors do not close properly. Hope this helps.
Good location with paddock where shopping for friends can also be bought.
Clean little house. Lovely hot shower. Coffee, tea, milk, even wood for the outside braai.
It was nice to sleep over at Lucern Lodge again and a nice braai with the Carrot Chops is just the right thing to rest a bit on the long way back home. Unfortunately have to deduct a few stars as there is still no decent fridge in the otherwise well equipped kitchen. There is only a tiny fridge which is actually intended for a bar in which you can fit absolutely nothing. We had to throw away a lot of perishable food as a result. Heng, we couldn't even keep our ice cream cold. Surely a reasonable fridge with the microwave oven on top is the standard at self-catering places and takes up exactly the same space as the bar fridge with the microwave oven on top of the counter?
We got our dates and days wrong and thought we still had a day left at our holiday destination. We then urgently had to find a place to sleep on the way back to Gauteng. The owner was kind enough to accommodate us in the Budget house, even though they were fully booked. Much Appreciated!
See stars.
We really enjoyed the stay there. Neat and clean. Had large trailer and 2 vehicles and parking was more than enough. Wood and firelighters and mosquito nets are provided. Towels excellent. Beds sleep very well. Nice cozy place. Only room with 3 beds is very nice especially with suitcases. Pet friendly which was a big plus for us.
The electrical work in the cottage definitely needs attention. Our bedside lights and the heater kept going on and off due to wires not making good contact. The place was neat and the braai place nice. Nice that there are also camping chairs provided for use outside. It was a bit disappointing that the shop was still closed at 9:00 in the morning and it was already closed when we got there at 19:00 in the evening. Perhaps the hours can be indicated on the website.
We had booked one chalet, but everything was closed. The manager was also not present and could not be reached by phone either. Then I called the contact person from LekkeSlaap. It helped me a lot. Turned out that the manager had assigned us a more luxurious house (upgrade). Other than that, everything went well.
Comfortable overnight accommodation. Just cut please. branches rubbing off on tin roof. Makes it hard to sleep when the wind blows.
See stars.
Is good to stay overnight, the pool is a bit away from the thatched spots.
We were very excited to take the two girls for a swim after a long and hot drive, then to our disappointment the pool was half full and very dirty. We also had to leave the area as a swarm of bees had taken over the pool. When we wanted to shower at 20:00 we had no warm water. Somebody was sent to investigate, but when the thermostat was removed it could clearly be seen that it had short circuit quite some time ago. We obviously had no warm water then the next morning as well. Don't believe the pictures that's been presented as this is not the real case.
I've stayed here before, always friendly and accommodating. Our two border collies love it here, more than our own home, must be all the sheep. Thanks Karen! See you in 2020.
Absolutely loved this venue. They thought of everything possible to make our stay comfortable.
Delicious barbecue packs with barbecue sandwiches and salad awaited us at our lodgings with piles of wood for the fires. Many thanks to our hostess, the stay was great!
Very nice. Ordered lamb chops, lamb sausages and barbecue buns to grill. Was so nice. Just got ten more packages after hours at the Farmstall to take with you. Thanks Karen!
The Shed offers good value for money and is the right distance for day 1 to Cape Town from Gauteng.
You can enjoy the Karoo's scenery and sunsets.
After a very long day on the road, we were pleasantly surprised by the cute little place. It's very nicely furnished with a nice rustic farm feeling. Our hosts were friendly and helpful and kept in touch with us throughout our trip there. We would definitely recommend the place.
It was a relaxing trip.
Great stay.
For business travelers who are dog tired and looking for quiet and close to the N1, it's perfect! You sleep in dead silence. Too delicious. Suggest light prepared meals sold in the store that can only be defrosted and reheated in the microwave. Barbecue is a nice idea, but business people don't want to barbecue. too tired (Bobotie, Curry and Rice, etc.). But really, this will be my stop from now on in the future.
Enjoyed a nice and quiet stay. Quiet despite being so close to the N1.
Nice stay with quiet environment.
Everything was neat and clean, unfortunately just a layer of dust over everything as if it had not been used / dusted for a very long time.
Very nice stay. Overslept one night.
Very nice stay thank you.
It is the perfect place to rest overnight. By the main road. Can come and go easily. Rooms are neat and clean. Cute shop for snacks.
Lovely place and I enjoyed it.
We had a great stay. It was neat, clean and typical of the countryside. Liked it! Thanks.
Very clean and tidy place, will definitely stay there again!

Karen provided very good service. She answered all my questions promptly. Our food order was also ready on arrival. The luxury unit was ready and beautifully clean. The braai facilities and everything to braai with were also as advertised. Thank you very much.
Our hostess immediately responded to text messages and answered kindly. The accommodation outside this Karo village was comfortably furnished with a beautiful green lawn.
See stars.
Very nice place. Has everything you need. Summer should be very nice with the braai and pool. The unit was not cleaned properly. They should definitely improve on it.
We would like to come back again and have tried to contact the owners, if the faucets in the kitchen are repaired as well as the broken toilet seat, I would definitely want to stay there again, but also the front door is very unsafe, only 1 lock on it that you can pull open , we live on farms people, safety is important and the garden lights are powered and not working, again, safety and simple repairs are important.
Extremely disappointed.
The reception was poor. 'n Man with the day's dirty working clothes welcomed us. Shower is a no no. General impression is neglected. Paint is coming off and there are big cracks in the chalet's walls. Will never recommend it.
Service and reception were very pleasant and accommodation met our requirements. Just very hot in summer and room does not have air conditioner where we stayed.
It was so nice to stay at such a beautiful place. We ordered mam chops and salads for dinner, the portions were very large and delicious. There was more than enough wood for the fire. We would definitely stay there again. Thank you!
The chalets were, in one word, fantastic. Everything was neat and clean and very comfortably furnished. Karen was also very friendly and helpful. Thank you for the wonderful relaxing time with you!
Everything needed for a single overnight stop down to the Cape.
Really a home from home and a comfortable stay.
It's a very cute, affordable place with helpful people.
Safe destination, ideal when travelling with a trailer.
What a wonderful place! It is so peaceful and quiet. We enjoyed the fire and got engaged right there next to the fire. It was the perfect setting and place for a romantic evening. Thank you for everything.
Nice stay. Was just worried about temporary hot water system with open 220v wires.
I slept alone on the way to the Cape and felt safe and had a wonderful stay. Cottage was beautifully clean and well furnished. Would definitely recommend it.
Far enough away from the highway to be peaceful. Nice house and surrounds. Pity the farm stall is not open every day.
Friendly reception and large spacious facilities. Well equipped kitchen and the Karoolam was excellent. Nice area to barbecue and relax.
We were surprised to get an upgrade to the luxury unit, thank you very much.
Clean, tidy, everything and more that one needed was there.
Had a great time. Wood, lightning, everything was provided, nice evening on the farm.
We had a very nice stay with everything you need for a night's sleep. Neat, clean and friendly service.
2 large bedrooms with en suites. Pool and lapa for socialising. Very peaceful after a busy road from the Free State. Everything was neat and there is a road stall we unfortunately missed as we arrived so late.
We attended a wedding in the Karoo and The Shed Farmstall & Lucern Lodge was a great choice for us. Close to the venue (The Vale) and affordable. Would highly recommend for anyone looking for 1 or 2 nights accommodation while passing through the Karoo. Karen was also great in assisting us with our late check-in.
Comfortable and clean, 2 comfortable en-suite bedrooms (even if mattresses a bit on the cheap side). We had two small dogs along and there were no issues. Be sure to get meat for the braai in the farm stall butchery.
We enjoyed the silence and simplicity of the surroundings and the paddock has delicious things to buy. Friendly reception and nothing is too much trouble. Thank you very much.
It was pleasant to come and stay in silence and seclusion. Perhaps attention could also be paid to an alternative to feather duvets and feather pillows. Highly allergic.
Was very hot. Willing to pay extra for air conditioning. Otherwise very clean and tidy and will visit again. Karen is very friendly and helpful.
We were upgraded at no further expense which was greatly appreciated. However, the unit was without hot water.
Very comfortable accommodation, but the cottages (Delux unit) need attention. I just wish I had known ahead of time that the paddock was closed for the time we were there.
Thank you very much, we had such a nice stay. What a genuine friendly hostess. The chalet was very neat and clean with everything we needed. We had a wonderful barbecue outside under the thorn tree and feasted on the Karoo meat, while the sun was setting. Thank you, we really had a very good night's rest after the day's long journey. We will certainly recommend The Shed Farmstall & Lucern Lodge and will remember this place for overnight stays in the future.
The location suited us well as a stopover between Johannesburg and Cape Town. The option to pre-order roast beef, salad and buns was a lovely extra option. We had car problems and the staff easily and quickly referred us to a car mechanic in town. We really appreciate it. They were also willing to accommodate us if we had to stay an additional night, even though it was their busy time. We would love to stay here again in the future.
We had a very nice stay. Very child-friendly and nice braai facilities!
It was nice, clean and well equipped.
Very neat and peaceful place to sleep. The children really enjoyed it and wanted to stay longer. Shop is cute and has what is needed for a nice barbecue.
Had a great time and grilled. Neat, clean and hospitable! Would definitely recommend the Shed!
Nice stay. Thank you. Spacious house.
I was very kindly given directions when I almost got lost. The people of The Shed are very helpful and friendly. I will use the overnight accommodation again. This was pleasant.
Love everything about this place, it's clean, very spacious, and really enjoyed walking on the farm. This is our second time visiting, and we will definitely be visiting again.
Friendly people. Peaceful. Just the place to stay over after a long journey.
We were upgraded to the bigger house. It was wonderful. Everyone felt very much at home, including our dogs.
It was our second stay at Lucern Lodge and it remains a wonderful place to rest. We organised for Karen to have dinner ready for us - what is nicer than a lamb chop and braai-bread under the Karoo night sky? Thanks for the fresh, clean bed and chalet, the tasty food and all the essentials. See you next time!
See the stars.
The reception was incredible. The house cool and clean. Karin a beaut and helps where she can. Lovely place to stay. We stayed there for a total of 3 nights and it was one big feast and treat. Thank you Karin.
The butchery and paddock on site make it unique; braai packets and side dishes for the evening's braai were delicious!
Would highly recommend, beautiful place.
Me, my husband and our 4 month old daughter stayed for the night. Room was exactly what we wanted. With the tranquility of the Karoo and the nostalgia of the paddock, our overnight stay was more than comfortable. Thank you very much for the hospitality.
We arrived late, but the owner waited for us. There was braai meat waiting for us in the cottage that we ordered and milk in the fridge. We had a very relaxing stay and would definitely recommend it. Next time we will order a salad with the meat, or take our own. We will definitely go there again.
Lucern is conveniently located close to the N1 and well furnished. Also convenient to go get some good mutton at The Shed at fair price for our braai in the evening.
It was lovely, very neat and well equipped. We enjoyed it a lot.
Very nice place for people who enjoy the Karoo. The rooms do not have TVs which makes it nice to get away from technology. The rooms are neat with ceiling fans. Each unit has its own braai with wood and a piece of flash.
Pleasant accommodation, very peaceful surroundings, would be ideal for a "retreat". Thank you.
Beautiful oasis in the middle of the Karoo and a true farm feeling. You wake up with the sound of sheep bleeting in your ears and the brightest stars we've seen in a long time. Well appointed with everything you need.
Great location, clean place good quality linen and quaint bedlamp. Kitchen is fully equipped they should just provide some rusks. Quiet, well-maintained garden.
The Shed was the ideal place to sleep on the way to Cape Town from Bloemfontein. The facilities were clean and tidy and the staff handled special requests very nicely. Thank you very much, we will definitely come again!
Nice houses, well equipped and an old-fashioned atmosphere.
The house was neat and clean and the bed comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped. There were wood, blitz and matches to make a fire. We had a braai with lovely Karoo chops from the Farmstall. The area is very peaceful, though the traffic from the N1 is audible (though not disturbing). There's also a swimming pool.
The location of the chalets is good, but we were very disappointed. There were no dishtowels in the kitchen. The bin wasn't clean and there was still some of te previous tenants' rubbish. There were no ice trays or ice in the fridge. The curtain railing was skew since it was loose at two places. The bathroom/toilet door's lock was broken. I reported all of this the next day, but still haven't heard back from them.
Accommodation with a great location for travellers on the road who prefer a one night stay. Clean and spacious with all the necessary self-catering equipment.
Hospitable, friendly and good service and had a lovely stay.
Neat places. Unfortunately had bats in 1 unit and people had to sleep in car. Power tripped early in all the units and never came back on the rest of the evening. Couldn't get hold of anyone. Benches outside standing in the sun, had to move under shade trees myself. Pool only at deluxe units. Was asked for bank details to refund 1 unit, but after 1 week still haven't received anything.
Even though the reception was very friendly, we won't sleep here again. The linen was clean but the rest of the place not so much. The shower mat was gross, you have to flush the toilet 100 times, the water pressure is terrible, no lights outside, quite far from town, and no food at the little shop, unless you want to braai that is. So we went to bed hungry. We couldn't cool down in the pool because it was frog infested. Lots of little things made the accommodation unpleasant, but at this price you probably shouldn't expect more. If you are on the road and arrive late, you don't want any issues. If a bit of a struggle and farm life is what your'e lookin for, then this is the perfect place.
Us city dwellers missed our DStv. But it was neat and peaceful. An acquired taste, though.
See the stars.
This place I would highly recommend. It is a very nice farm. It is very close to the highway.
We had a lovely stay. Very neat and nice atmosphere. Had a nice braai and all the ingredients were there.
Friendly people.
Gosh, what a pleasure to spend the night at Lucern Lodge. The De Luxe house where we stayed was perfectly appointed and the braai dinner was the best end to a hectic day on the road from Gauteng. We switched the lights off and listened to the night sounds of the veld, and looked at the stars while the Karoo chops sizzled on the fire. Clean, neat, and welcoming, and Karen's service is friendly and warm. Thanks for a great evening at your place, we really enjoyed it.
Easy access to the lodge with a beautiful shop for all your needs.
Beautiful place and people. Even with the leaking pipe, it was fixed immediately. We will definitely stay there again in the future!
As an overnight destination, The Shed is the ideal place. Would even recommend the place if you want to visit the area for a few days. Very tasty venison and dried sausage.
We were looking for a working Karoo farm to show my girls some farm life and we found it! The cottage had ample space and everything we needed. We were upgraded free of charge which was fantastic. The cottage has an open boma and private swimming pool for the two adjacent cottages. We enjoyed the cold refreshing water after a long drive. The grass is lush and green without thorns around the cottage so my girls could run and stretch their legs. They have springbok, a porcupine, pot-belly pigs, turkeys, ducks, geese, chickens (with 1 day old chicks at the time), a khoi fish in a dam, goats, sheep and lambs - and my girls could cuddle them all! They also have a jungle gym and tractor to climb on so an ideal stop for families with young kids. We went for a sunset walk into the Karoo expanse and could show the kids "spoor" of the different animals. It was serene, quiet, and MOST welcome. We peeked in at the other cottages and we would have been very happy with the accommodation even if we had not been upgraded. We arrived after 17:00 on a Saturday, but Karin communicated via cellphone with us and even dropped some leg of lamb chops at our cottage ready for us to have a Karoo Lamb braai on arrival. We will definitely stop there again and I highly recommend this to others to try.
Very satisfied. We got chalet 3. We were very happy and simply stayed an extra night. Will always stop there. Thanks Karen for everything!
Our accommodation was upgraded for free, chalet was very tidy and spacious and value for money. Would recommend it.
I stayed one night and the neat accommodation and peaceful atmosphere pleasantly surprised me. The chalet was very neatly and comfortably furnished. I would happily stay here again.
The house is beautiful and everything you need is there. The stars are so beautiful and bright, it feels like you are inside the sky. One night is too little, you can really only stay there longer.
Well equipped, neat chalets. Owners very helpful and friendly. The Farmstall is very cute with a large selection of jams, rusks, olives etc. to pick and choose from. They also have a very nice butchery that provides a variety of mutton at very affordable prices. We had a great time!
The fridge was small for four people and needed attention, and the oven was dicey, but all in all a nice stop-over with a pool that would be great in summer.
Conveniently located halfway between Bloemfontein and Cape Town on the N1. Amenities complete (except TV) and tidy. Service great. Ideal overnight stop.
Absolutely enjoyed it, location outside of town is perfect, nice atmosphere, excellent accommodation and convenient with the braai and wood etc. Our dogs (with manners!) were welcome! Thank you, will stay there again next time! But don't let everyone in the country find out, then we won't get space again.
Very neat place, the people are very friendly and helpful. Would spend the night there again any time, peaceful accommodation, no one bothers you, no noise from the N1, and you can sit at your chalet and have a barbecue.
The Shed is a convenient and beautiful place to stay on your way to Cape Town. The shop has very cute products and the chalets that we stayed in was very well equipped and beautiful. There is a swimming pool to cool down in in the warm Karoo. We will definitely make use of The Shed again.
Reception is excellent. Everything is very neat. Peaceful farm atmosphere/eco-friendly. Outside facilities like the swimming pool with a lapa and braai etc. is fantastic.
Very cute paddock and overnight accommodation. Slaughterhouse and paddock were open to buy something even though it was Sunday.
We had a very nice stay. One doesn't need more after a long day on the road. Lovely sitting in the shade of a tree and eating and had a lovely, peaceful night's rest. Thank you very much. We will use you again.
Good overnight option in Beaufort West.
Lovely accommodation. The accommodation is neat and convenient. Strongly recommend it to any traveller.
Were were only two, but there is a beautiful lawn where kids kan play.
Short only air conditioner, drove at 9:00 in the evening due to the heat.
Arrival in the dark is not recommended. There is no one to show you the place. You are just told over the phone to "follow the road". The bed's headboard is lower than the footboard, so one lies downhill. We then tried the single bed, then the legs fell out. The curtain by the door came completely off the curtain rod. We laugh about it now, but after 9 hours on the road you just want a good night's rest. Just when one has fallen asleep, the water pipes start making a hellish noise. At four o'clock we just got up and drove.
When we arrived at the paddock, the lady was very friendly and helpful. On the way to the chalets we noticed that there were hundreds of centipedes in the road. The chalets had different types and sizes of spiders inside and outside. After we sprayed poison, there were still spiders and also a bat in the chalets. Two spiders walked over my brother-in-law while he was falling asleep on the bed. Five of our seven people found alternative accommodation at Wagon Wheels. A centipede even came to the faucet when my brother-in-law wanted to wash his face. We also found an already dead "red novel" inside the kitchen cupboard.
I could easily stop my trip to Cape Town right there and stay for a week. It was great. Thank you very much.
People very friendly and helpful. Place is beautiful!
Very nice place to stay. The Delux apartment was ideal for us traveling as two couples. Would suggest staying more than just one night.
Very special place that surprises one with location and comfort. It is a must to buy meat there (very cheap) and then grill there. Reception was friendly and everyone was ready to meet and meet our needs. Will definitely come here again.
Easily accessible yet quiet for a good night's rest. Lovely surroundings; perfect travelling overnight stay for families with young kids.
Neat, spacious accommodation and the pool was a winner after a long day on the road.
The lodge offers a comfortable, quiet place to stay with neat rooms, enough facilities and they welcome pets.
