103 guests' feedbackWhat a welcoming overnight stop travelling through to the Western Cape from KZN. The host was so accommodating and the staff super friendly. The room was comfortable and the dinner and breakfast both perfect. Dinner, in fact, was a very high-quality meal - as a vegetarian I received what I can compare with a high-end restaurant pasta dish! 10 out of 10 overall.
Rooms spacious and beds very comfortable and equipped with electric blankets.
Charming accommodation.
Staff, food, service, room everything was excellent.
We were received very kindly and had a very nice stay. Breakfast was very nice and I can also recommend the dinner.
Fabulous property and a very generous room and bathroom with all the comforts of home, including electric blankets, a heater, a kettle, a fridge, coffee, and tea. Very comfortable bed and luxurious linens made for excellent sleep quality while on the road. My only piece of constructive feedback is that it would have been nice to have had a bottle of drinking water in the room. I unfortunately left before breakfast, so I didn't get a chance to experience that. Would highly recommend.
Had a lovely and comfortable sleep over. Staff very friendly and helpful. Dinner and breakfast were excellent. Thank you very much.
Lovely stay in stately old world charm. Good accommodation with warm beds and shower and lovely to have dinners there too.
Awesome night over stay, completely exceeded our expectations. Large clean bedrooms, nice pub area, good food.
Very interesting. The pub on its own was warm and inviting. We had our dog with us, and he sat in the pub with us. There was a cosy fire going. They served our supper right there, which meant we didn't have to leave our furbaby alone in the room. The host was friendly and relaxed. All in all, an interesting stay.
Very nice stay in the old barracks of a place with history.
Very nice stay. Friendly staff.
The Old Willow Historical Guest House is a very interesting old building. Staff were friendly and helpful. This is the third time we have stayed here.
Situated in very pleasant surrounds, the staff and owners were very friendly and helpful. Rooms a little tired, but it is to be expected in a historical house.
The people are redefining friendliness, service, style and quality of accommodation and food. I have stayed in many guest houses for my work in many places over the last 30 years, but The Willow Historical Guest House is one of the five best.
The friendly reception, hospitable service, neat and spotless accommodation make it worth it. We didn't even feel the June chill with the air conditioning and cozy blanket. We definitely recommend the dinner too!
Wonderful hospitality!
We were received and served very friendly and hospitable. We had a delicious dinner and breakfast at the guesthouse's restaurant, which is highly recommended if staying in Willowmore. The guest house is beautiful and full of character. The unit was very clean and tidy. We would love to stay here again.

The accommodation was very comfortable and the breakfast tasty. Dinners were also available, which is convenient when one is tired from traveling.
Very intereasant and we were kindly welcomed! You can enjoy something in the bar while you wait for your food which was incredibly tasty and served in real silverware.
It was very tasty and excellent food. The food is delicious.
Nice stay at the Willow Guest House. Restaurant on site is a definite plus. Hospitality and service are good.
It was a lovely house with lovely gardens and outside rooms and a few dogs. We all stayed very comfortably, ate well and rested up for the last day of our journey home. Well worth the stopover.
Friendly and very helpful. Would definitely recommend the place.
Beautiful historic guest house with delicious food and several cozy corners.
The Willows is neat, easy to get to and safe. My father and I stayed here for two nights. The beds sleep well, the shower works well, the rooms are tidy. What more could one want? I would stay here again.
Very nice stay. Feel free to try their restaurant food. It was excellent!
We really enjoyed the sleepover. Dinner and breakfast were delicious. We felt right at home as if we were visiting family. Will definitely stay again and is recommended.
Thank you to the owners and staff.
Clean and tidy, safe, good breakfast.
We found the main building dusty. Dog hair on the carpets that were old and weathered. Beautiful, old home, expected a bit more in terms of restoration.
El-Anne and her staff go out of their way to accommodate my autistic son. It is a great compliment if he is comfortable staying at a guest house for a second and third time. In this case, he couldn't wait!
We loved the historic house, the beautiful dinner and breakfast deck. Food was top notch. And then the extra hospitality was just wonderful!
Beautiful place, neat place to stay, spacious and well furnished. Loved the lovely/comfortable recliners. After a long journey it was wonderful to be able to relax there. Food was fantastic and the white linen and silver cutlery something else!
Everything was fantastic, but just have to mention that there is no free Wi-Fi in the rooms (as advertised).
Lovely hosts and the best hamburgers in SA!
With my last visit here I stayed across the road, so was booked in the main house this time. In a word - wow! Huge, comfortable rooms and bathroom facilities, friendly new owners, wonderful food at reasonable prices in an interesting and beautiful historic building. I would change the breakfast service back to what is currently used as a bar though - a fresh, light and airy garden setting.
Strange that there are no dishwashing facilities for washing dishes. And yet there are self-catering facilities.
Noah was welcome and that meant a lot to us.
We had a pleasant experience, apart from the lack of hot water due to the geyser tripping in the early hours of the morning. Not foreseeable by the hosts, who kindly gave us a discount on the bill to compensate.
Friendly staff and accommodating hosts paired with Karoo meals and ambience. Great stop over.
We have stayed at The Willow Historical Guest House twice now. I can find absolutely no fault. The service, the room, the food, the place itself - everything is top notch! We will definitely stay with you again!

Thanks for the delicious dinner!
Wonderful service, people and food! Wow, would recommend it to parents with kids who want to stretch legs and small children. Rooms very nicely and comfortably furnished.
It is wonderful to be treated like guests of honor by Karoo-friendly people with sincerity! They really want to know if the food was good, if you slept well. This is a great place in a great country town at the entrance to the Bavian. Don't leave without breakfast and don't miss the mutton curry! Thank you very much El Anne and team, definitely see you again!
The people are hospitable, friendly and went out of their way to accommodate us. They set a table for us in the garden to have dinner on such a sweltering hot evening! The rooms are clean and tidy and provision has been made for mosquitoes. The breakfast was delicious. As in the past, the place just left us with a warm heart and gratitude.
It was very nice for us.
Neat and clean. Tasty and well prepared meals. Helpful, friendly and welcoming management.
El-Anne and her husband are working wonders to keep the 150-year-old building in excellent condition while preserving its historic character. We had one of those nice beds that you sleep well on the first night. The meals (dinner and breakfast) were excellent!
A historical place full of memories. Lovely clean spacious rooms, the people are friendly and helpful. Right after our arrival we were offered a nice cup of coffee which we could enjoy in the tranquility of the garden. The food is delicious, we had a blast with the lamb's tails.
Was very interesting, all the antiques.
Nice old-fashioned reception area, full of history.
We had a nice stay and the food was typical South African cuisine, which was delicious.
We were warmly received. nice, clean big room. The friendly manner in which the driver answered all our questions about the village. Interesting bar with hundreds of souvenirs. The dinner in an antique dining room was excellent, with a.o. the tastiest 'lamb shank' ever! Extra large bed with good linen. Breakfast was served on time and briskly despite a water supply problem. Beautiful garden!

Comfortable and functional. Pleasant staff.
Very friendly host. My dogs were welcomed which was great. But the accommodation was not great. My shower went from burning you alive to ice cold. Then no hot water, then repeat the process. My room was the only one of 3 with an electric blanket. It was a very cold night. Door handle on the bathroom not working. One lonely rusk in a rather grubby tin in a room meant for two. Dinner was seriously expensive and very bland. Breakfast was good though. I wouldn't choose to stay here again.
What a treat to step into this old house. Friendly and efficient staff with lovely rooms.
We recently stayed one night in the beautiful and peaceful village of Willowmore. We arrived earlier than the check-in time and it was not a problem for them. Due to a cancellation they offered us a better room than originally booked at no extra cost. The 150-year-old buildings are beautifully maintained and the gardens tidy. The rooms are very clean and tidy. They cooked their lamb curry especially for us. The meal was fantastic and prices good. Very friendly hostess, could have a nice chat with her. Would definitely recommend this guest house to people visiting the area or just looking for a place to stay overnight. Thank you very much for their good service.
We were the only guests for the evening, but the hostess really went out of her way to make our stay as pleasant as possible. Compliments to the management and then of course to the chef who conjured up the most breathtaking meal for us. The breakfast just as excellent and tasty. Well done. You are highly recommended to all our friends and family. Good luck and prosperity with your dream, you have surely got the right "recipe". Thanks again.
We enjoyed it terribly. The rooms were clean, spacious and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. We will definitely stay there again if we are in the area.
The Willow Guest House can be recommended for sure. The food is delicious, the atmosphere cuddly and cozy and the accommodation very neat, spacious and of a high standard. We stayed in one of the cottages across the street and really enjoyed it. Their service is excellent and they went out of their way to help us after our vehicle had problems on the way. Thank you very much Jean-Mari and Benriëtte for your effort, we appreciate it!
Our family stayed there for a night. The room was very neat and affordable and the food in the restaurant was amazing. Will definitely recommend that guests eat there.
We travel between Johannesburg and Gansbaai about 4 times a year and always stopover at a different place to make our trip interesting. Good facilities and good food.
We received a hearty welcome from the hostess. It was welcome after a motorcycle drive in the heat. The historic bar is beautiful and the cold beer and chat with Elanne was very pleasant. The rest of the building is a beautiful, historical site and very comfortably equipped with beautiful antiques. Very stylish.
The breakfast was excellent and the bar, which I only discovered the next morning before departure is a beautiful nostalgic place. Full marks to the Van der Merwe family.
Very cute, neat, clean and friendly.
Food was delicious. Clean room. Good service. Manager and staff very helpful and friendly.
The room was comfortable and neat. The service was great and the dinner was delicious. Highly recommended.
Self-catering cottage needs some upgrading and was not worth the rate. The food is excellent.
We stayed in the self service house. I was very disappointed with the condition. Damp walls in my room, kitchen utensils had to be washed before it could be used, toilet light not working and spider webs in the bathroom. It did not feel as if much attention was given to this unit.
Was treated with 5 star service. Supper was also 5 star quality. However the 2 bedroom cottage called Flippie was not clean. Cobwebs, loose light fittings, room doors don't close and lock properly, toilet area very small and the entrance to the cottage was extremely narrow, so much so that my vehicle got scratched down the side next to the border fence and so-called shrubbery.
Great hospitality and delicious food.
Service on arrival friendly and professional. Unit was well appointed and had a very comfortable sleep. Food outstanding.
Old but an incredibly historic place. The food was the best. Dinner's leg of lamb was the best. Breakfast was better than normal. Slept warm and showered deliciously. Cute place especially the antiques in the bar.
It's just a nice place to relax, in front of the fireplace and then the tasty meal. I recommend the dinner. Don't even think about roasting meat. The staff were friendly and helpful. It's a home away from home. Will stay there again for sure.
See star-rating.
Thank you to the management of Willow Historical Guest House for great service, delicious meals and Karoo friendliness that is so unique to the Karoo.
It's an incredible place. We can't wait for our next visit there.
The stay was a nice Karoo experience. We could navigate the streets on foot and always felt safe. Have already recommended the facility to others. Keep it up.
We didn't take meals, but I can recommend it.
We were blown away by the owners, management and staff. So friendly, helpful and all round awesome. We stayed for 7 nights and found so much to do around the area so is ideal for a holiday destination not only as an overnight stop. We will definitely be back as often as we can, the whole town has a definite "good feel" about it.
The Willow Historical Guest House is a 3-star guest house. Considering that Willowmore is a very small town, I have to be honest that it far exceeded all of our expectations. The rooms are comfortable and the food was top notch. El-Anne and her employees were always very hospitable and we look forward to staying with them again.
Nice comfortable stop in nice town. Very nice stopover for travel. They also serve a good breakfast - delicious.
Beautiful historic main building. Pleasant atmosphere with log fires. Meals very nice. Will definitely book again.
The website was misleading. Meals and drinks are not included as on your ad.
We stayed one night in Willowmore on our way to Ladismith and Cape Town. The Willowmore Historical Guesthouse made our stay in Willowmore one to remember. The room was spacious and beautifully decorated. We enjoyed a wonderful and generous dinner. The owner and her staff were super friendly and helped us in any way they could. We recommend this place to anyone who visits Willowmore and surroundings.
Beautiful place to stay. Was a little disappointed not to stay in the main house/destination. The new rooms across the street are average but lack the atmosphere of the main building. Breakfast was unbeatable, and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's great to visit the main building and see all the old furniture. Wonderful that it is kept this way. Would definitely stay there again and would recommend it to anyone.
Friendly, extremely neat. Lovely atmosphere!
A homely atmosphere with beautiful, antique furniture. Friendly service and delicious food!
A very pleasant experience with friendly staff! Helpful and high standard of service!
Friendly, cozy, unique with good food!
See the stars below.
Cottage where we were booked was not good at all. Canopy bed's rail is broken. The curtains are awful. The bathroom door is broken and looks very bad. The showers don't even have curtains or anything on them. Only ceiling fans in some of the rooms. When we said we were not going to spend the night, we were offered other rooms with air conditioning. Why weren't we booked into the better rooms in the first place? We had to look for another place to stay after 1000 km behind us.
It's an old parsonage with a special collection of old farm and household objects. There is a large communal front room with a fireplace and bar services. The meals were very delicious. Thank you for the extremely friendly service and hostess. We find the open shower interesting, like in Europe. Well equipped with all necessities. We were in a separate cottage from the main building, and can highly recommend it!
We slept here one night. The room is spacious and was clean. The staff are very helpful and make you feel right at home. The small bar encourages you to socialize with other guests. We quickly became friends. We also liked the variety of dishes on the menu and our food was well prepared. We can highly recommend The Willow Historical Guest House at any time.
We stayed overnight on our way to the coast in December 2013, and were very impressed with everything (room, pool, bar, food) and the friendly atmosphere. We will stay there again in the future!
A good place to stop for the night on the way to our holiday destination.
The rooms are spacious, tidy and have all the necessary facilities. The guest house with the antiques on display is something special. Will definitely make it part of my future travel plans.
