We are centrally situated on the Maluti Route, nestled amidst the mountains Eastern Free State. The majestic Maluti’s form a backdrop of purple haze in summer, and transform to snow-capped peaks during winter. Up in the hills of the Maluti Mountains are numerous caves with lovely examples of San rock art. The town of Ficksburg is the gateway to Lesotho and the Katse Dam, which is definitely something to see. Ficksburg is best known today for its annual Cherry Festival, the oldest festival in South Africa, which takes place each November. This region offers its natural beauty and unlimited possibilities for outdoor enthusiasts, such as a dinner cruise along the Meulspruit Dam, fly-fishing in the mountain streams, quad biking, pony trekking, hiking, and in winter snow skiing in Lesotho.

We enjoyed the stay, a nice tranquil place, and waking up to the sounds of water features was very soothing. The host was very friendly and served a very filling breakfast 10/10 to the chef. a pity the roads leading to the area are poorly maintained which makes this place a diamond in the rough. a rose among thorns, nevertheless highly recommend this place.

More sincere, more friendly, hospitable people than our hostess and host at The Woodpecker have never been encountered in our travels around the country! The room is spacious and comfortably furnished and the guest house is in a quiet area where we felt safe. Our hostess spoiled us with the most delicious food that was served very nicely. We spent the night there during the 2018 Kersiefees. Upon our arrival, the room was ready and we could relax in the afternoon after a long and very hot day on the road. During our stay, all the guests were calm and there was really nothing to complain about. Everything was clean and tidy, with secure parking. Although it was about 2 km from the festival grounds, we could still have walked straight to a Spar, which was a pleasant experience in the countryside, especially if you come from the cities and don't just do it. The next day we were able to visit several cherry farms from there where there were further festival activities. The breakfast was also very pleasant. I know it was exceptionally hot, but a pool would have been nice, but lacking that, we looked at the 'water features' and listened.

Daar is voldoende sekuriteit binne en buite. Ons gasvrou Eureka het ons baie goed ontvang en dadelik tuis laat voel. Alles hier is van hoogstaande gehalte.

The room is nice and comfortable, but the shower needs a new shower head and shelf. Other than that, no complaints.

Incredible attention to detail, comfortable bedrooms each with its own verandah, efficient hostess, excellent dinner and tasty breakfast. It is rare to find a B&B which offers dinner. After a long trip one doesn't always want to go out looking for a restaurant at night, and in Ficksburg the choice is limited anyway.
The venue was well managed and presented. We did find the accommodation a little cramped, fortunately we only spent one short evening in the room - this is not a negative! We were well received and the host was most helpful in every respect.

There are a few items in the room that need attention such as: the water that does not run out, the seat of the chair is loose and the top of the table was loose and this causes discomfort.
There was no soap. The blanket was way too small for the bed. The TV did not work during the Rugby World Cup.
